Gaming Fan Base... Bad?

Has Twitch and YouTube shed some light on the gamer fan base over the last 5 or so years?

I feel like in general, the gaming community is A LOT worse than what it once was. This is thanks to kids (who have parents that will buy them anything, spoiled ones) and younger gaming adults who act like children themselves.

What are your thoughts? Has it gone downhill? Is it just the same as it always was only we see it more thanks to Twitch and YouTube?

These gamers have always been around. Think about any time you have ever played an online game... Screaming 10-year-olds, immature 20 somethings.. They have always been here. They just now broadcast their immaturity and annoyances on the internet.

I know all too well having played several CoD games how this goes.

*Joins lobby*

*hears screaming from what sounds like a little girl, come to find it is an 11 year old boy*

*mutes entire lobby*

I don't watch Twitch however I do watch a few gaming related Youtube channels and I agree that it does expose a lot of the negative people out there (or people that are getting way more screen time then they deserve) however at the same time I've also stumbled across quite a few decent ones in the process. It's a pity that most are pretty toxic but I guess that's the price we have to pay to get a few enjoyable ones along the ride.

This is the same case with everything else. You are going to have fans of anything you enjoy that you just can't stand to be around or talk to. Take it from someone who has enjoyed competitive Pokemon for the last 3 years. This fanbase has it ALL. You have kids, teens, adults, know it alls, toxic spewers... It is a mixed bag.

YouTube is more so to blame for shedding light on the "bad" end of the gaming community. Some gamers have millions of followers for simply being trolls in game and I just don't understand that. I only watch serious gamers who care about the games they are playing, not ones looking to be a douche and get views.

It has always had snot nose babies of all ages, comes with the territory. It is no different than sports players or sports fans. I tend to find more people getting upset over stupid things with sports than I do with video games anymore.

That always pissed me off. Like there are at least 10 guys who are 5 million + on there and they do nothing but troll other people or their friends. I don't know how people find it entertaining.

A bit late to reply to this but yeah that is what I am saying. These guys who are awful and basically show people how not to act on a public online game have huge fan bases. It is different if it is just them and their friends, some people do that and that is fine but when you go out of your way to be a dick to people online, why would people want to encourage that or be a fan of that?

Why would people want to watch those Kardashian people? I really don't know why people support and encourage the horrible behavior. Maybe they view it just as entertainment but they don't consider the influence these sources can have on people.
