Why are sessions empty? (XBOX ONE)

Seems the gamin news outlets are catching wind of the reduced player counts:

https://www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2020/9/4/21422795/red-dead-online-rdo-lobbies-rockstar-redemption-2-player-count

Something else interesting in that article:

"On social media, one Red Dead Online community posed a poll asking players if they’d like small lobby counts to be permanent, and out of more than 3,200 replies, an overwhelming number of people voted yes. The consensus seems to be that folks will take the game actually working over making it a social experience."

I noticed a lot of my friends are n't playing RDO anymore. May be that's another reason for reduced numbers in lobbies?

Perhaps.  I don't know how sessions are populated although it I have doubts the low count is due to a lack of players to fill them.  I would assume a decrease in players would simply mean less sessions.

Have we heard about anyone having problems trying to invite a whole seven person posse into a session? That would be an issue if that was the case.

I actually had a 10 ppl lobby yesterday but the more time i played numbers started to decrease to 2 ppl.....

The game works how it should have been from the start but there are no players to interact with and that is a major bummer for me.

Im 100% sure that its not because of lower player count. They are having major problems with the game since the naturalist update and havent been able to fix it.  Personally i  think that they got hacked.

Wouldn't that be something if that turns out to be true. Hacker breaks into RockStar server and fixes their broken a*s game!.

I wouldn't say that the hacker fixed anything.

When the problems began with RDR O after the Naturlist patch there were some weird shiet going on in game. There are a lot of reports about an "NPC" that was behaving like a real player running along maps and servers shooting ppl. He couldnt be killed bcoz of god mode. After that ppl started to report a woman NPC doing same thing on servers.

Im not 100% sure if hacking is the case but it could be. R* is unable to fix the players in lobby problem for weeks now and it seems to me that they do it on purpouse to get the game running while they trying to "catch" the hacker. Extortion might be involved.

I haven't had a lobby with more than six of us in a while, often I am on alone.  I didn't struggle with being griefed, and gave as good as I got if I ever was, so personally I'd prefer to have a few of the glitches back just to get more players online.  Otherwise it really isn't an online game, and I used to have some lovely interactions with other players.  The current unpopulated lobbies actually has me replaying Story mode.  Given the lack of players I find I just get more varied content and more fun over there.  It's a real shame, I'm a bit sad about it.  I keep my streak up then switch to Story.  I keep the streak in the hope that they repopulate the lobbies, but I sadly don't think that they will (particularly as the consensus seems to be that the online version of the game is more enjoyable without other players.  It isn't really an online game like that, but rather an offline game with different content.  Posses no longer work, either, and several of the dailies now don't work as they require other players.  So sorry to say I miss the good old days.

As much as some folks may like the low pop servers, I highly doubt R* is planning to keep them this way.  I think their intention has always been to keep the population where it was but whether this is a result of testing the relationship between issues and the pop, a bug or a way around issues for now, I doubt it will remain as such.   ......IMO at least.  They are still pushing for PvP, posses, PvEvP in activities, etc. and that simply doesn't work like it is now and they know that.

I'm conscious that I might be a lone reed, but that would make me very happy.  Supposed to be a couple of new roles/expanded roles before Christmas so hopefully we are in the foothills of a bustling, happy online community.  A frontier town up in the snow would really suit the Christmas vibe!

I quite like the new low population lobbies as nothing breaks immersion more than queueing behind 3 other players to loot a collectible or talk with a quest giver - especially when the quest giver says they will only "tell you" - yeah what about the 3 other bozo's that were stood here before me !!!

Plus PC has now been given the expanded collectors collections [lol] for Fossils so I'm a bit worried that this is the limit for "expanded role" they spoke about!!

Apart from eejits with Lasso's in things like Trade Route & Protect Legendary missions I have had very little grief since the change - except last weekend when I was in a lobby with 3 of us total & 1 of those decided to keep killing me up near Colter - over & over so much so that I left as there was just too much accuracy going on & insta-explosi-kill from across a huge valley for my liking! Other than that I'm happy there are less people around to break my immersion :)

Im doing exactly the same. I wanted to achieve my goal of exping to 500 lvl but im stuck at 423. I just dont see a point playing without interacting with other players - its pointless and boring. Im hoping they will fix the population problem soon and until than im having much more fun in story than in ghost online world.

I hope they will change the direction of the game that they set up recently. I mean we were supposed to be outlaws and lawmen in the Wild West - busting out posse members from jail cells, robbing banks, trains, shops, ppl.... Heck there was even words of farming and stuff and protecting ur crops from other players.

Instead the game went towards shooting pictures of animals and taking samples, gathering plants to transform to an animal (wich is totaly pointless and gives nothing not even a single xp point) and dressing like an idiot with feathered hats.

The game need's strong, serious stuff not "my little island adventure" crap.

Im happy that they "started" to update the game but i dont really understand why isnt there trinkets implemented, new belts that increase the ammo capacity and other that work in story. Why isnt there rewards for high level players like the mentioned ammo capacity upgrade. Cmon i think i earned to have that by playing since beta. I dont want another silly outfit sheesh !!!

I played from the start, but it's lately an empty world with 1-5 players in sessions and repeating roles. Right now only one daily a day!! Wish you all the best with R*.

Just read an article today that some folks are reporting sessions are back to normal at least on PC.  .....consoles could be next.

I was in a session today, about 3 players on PC. RockStar should leave it alone.

I wont play RDR anymore if they make free roam lobbies permanently small...  its ********.   I barely do free roam anymore. Its single player with no good storyline..... what’s the point.  Shootout series is only thing worth playing now.

Yes they are trying to fix this problem. Since a week or so there are small increases in players in lobby.

Yesterday when i logged i was in a 5 ppl lobby and after an hour of play time it was 10. When i changed server i was in a 3 pppl lobby (including me) and for the rest of the time i played (about 1,5 h) it was still 3. I can see they are trying. Hope they fix it soon and when they do the events will pop up as they do now. We shall see.
