Oh shut up, im so sick of all this crying. R* the only company to not have a store open on launch day, we had 3 updates in 14 days. The biggest problem with rd2 is the player base, everone wants it easy, and complain when cheap exploits gets shut down. And no one hated on R* when they gave us all 250 and 20 gold.4 points
-
I don't get the negative comments about R* here. I bought the game for the story. To my mind it is a masterpiece and worth every penny. RDO is an added bonus. R* have not tried to charge a fee to play, there is no Annual Pass required. So what if they offer the option to short cut the need to farm money to buy the best kit. In this game it doesn't make a heap of difference anyway. I shan't be purchasing gold bars anytime soon, but more than happy for R* to take the money. Also, they need to test the transactions work in Beta before full roll-out.3 points
-
Well, it's not as if buying gold bars is a requirement to advance in the game, buy weapons, etc. The only thing locked behind this form of currency is essentially cosmetics. .....nearly everything else can be bought with in-game cash and in some cases gold as an alternative. Personally, I don't see the conflict and to be honest, some folks are going to complain about microtransactions regardless. Also, whether they are released right now or later, what's the difference? They are not required. People that find value in the items being offered at the time will buy them and those that don't, won't. Whether they implemented the store now or later has zero effect on my experience in the beta. Hell, I played GTAV:O for years without ever spending a dime on Shark Cards. .....I doubt RDO will be any different for me. Oh, and it appears we are getting more freebies from R* for participating in the beta:3 points

Developing a game as big as Red Dead Redemption 2 is a daunting task, but Rockstar Games managed to do so and release a game that's relatively free of issues. Some glitches are still found here and there, but this isn't a particularly bad thing, as it has allowed some players to find some unused dialogue that may hint at future DLC. Before we proceed further, we have to warn you that there will be massive spoilers for both Red Dead Redemption 2 and the original Red Dead Redemption, so avoid reading further if you have yet to complete any of the two games. The post Red Dead Redemption 2 Unusued Dialogue Hints At Possible DLC appeared first on RDR2.org. Read the full story2 points

So, this is the category I often fall into. I'm a working professional who puts in a lot of hours at work. I have kids and a wife who all have hobbies and commitments of their own that take time away from other things. While I have been an avid gamer for many years and have crushed many games with literally hundreds of hours grinding or campaigning to either advance or unlock new things, I simply do not have the time these days to make such a commitment to *any* game anymore. So for me, unless there is a micro-transaction option or some other means to mitigate some of that grind and commitment with any given game I generally avoid playing it. I do have friends in RDRO that have already far surpassed me in ranks simply because they have the time to grind them out. The micro-transactions provide me (theoretically) with at least the ability to "participate" with my friends even if only at a disadvantage for the lack of play time, ranks, and expertise. I do not support "Pay to Win" games but appreciate games that allow for a reasonable amount of "Pay to keep up" kind of model, for folks like me. Having said that, another great point that was brought up earlier is whether or not now is the time to invest real money into purchases for a game this early in development. For all the reasons discussed earlier, I am in agreement and do not plan to spend any real money on the game for some time, at least until I can reasonably know that the value of the investment is worth the cost.2 points

People... Calm yer tits.. You don't actually have to buy any Gold, ya know.2 points

Is it asking too much to play the game with friends? If I want to place someone on some train tracks and have some fun, there's no shortage of Lemyone, O'Driscoll, or Murfee boys to abscond away with for such a purpose. Hell, I drop them off train bridges for fun in single player all the time. But corpse stacking goes a lot quicker if there's someone to help. Like the old saying goes, "many hands make light work"2 points

It does if the sheeple throw money at it, even in this beta state, with no regard as to when RDO goes "gold" or "live". Plenty of folks with no concern about tossing money at the game will have zero qualms about buying gold now, despite the lack of definitive, declarative statements about progress being maintained. Personally, they won't see a dime from me. The current game isn't a finished product, and as such, I am unable to make an informed decision as to how to spend my money, and whether or not I"ll choose to continue to play RDO. It's close, but not where it needs to be to hold my interest. Investing now by purchasing gold is a fool's errand, imo: without knowing how things will end up when the final product is rolled out, I can't be assured my investment will be worth the effort. If I buy gold now to dress my character in the most resplendent finery from the local haberdashery, only to find RDO to be a lawless frontier littered with flying locomotives, and bored trust fund babies outfit with the latest and greatest items, then I'll never feel the urge to play online just to be griefed/trolled into oblivion, no matter how well I rock those overalls.2 points
-
Who would be penalized? GTAV:O has private session options and I suspect RDO will too. Some folks simply don't want to be exposed to the griefers that frequent public sessions / Free Roam. They just want more PvE / co-op options to enjoy with their friends. Those that like to troll will still have their free-for-all mode to harass people in.2 points

Rushing through a game and skipping half the content is really nothing to brag about. Your friend is completely missing the point of RDR2 if he things completing it in 48 hours is an achievement. I am on my second playthrough and I am doing EVERYTHING, taking my time with it. And only now do I understand what took Rockstar 8 years to craft. Possibly the best game I have ever played.2 points

That glitch is interesting. It would seem they are indeed planning something there. I am hoping for it. Like I would love for them to add on to the single player with new stories every 3 or so months.2 points

The same pros / cons invite-only sessions provide in GTAO. It allows friends to interact in the GTA game world without "randoms". To still participate in some activities, explore, etc. without the threat of being trolled. I see no cons personally except for the fact that (in GTAO for example) you can;t operate CEO or VP operations within one of these sessions. R* wants players to be under the constant threat of other players in public sessions when making money. Unfortunately, the only lucrative activities can only be performed in public. ....downside for those looking to make a buck but an upside for griefers. On the other hand, this keeps things "fair" as people can't make money in closed sessions and then dominate in public ones. ......but then they can always just buy their way through the game with Shark Cards. Personally, I don't like the idea of a forced blend of PvP and PvE gameplay. It attracts griefers and is rarely fun for those that want just PvE fun. Having said that, I understood it to an extent in the GTA universe but not so much (in its current format) in RDR. In RDO I believe there should be consequences, incentives, etc. to discourage trolling. ......vs. a griefer's paradise like GTAO is.2 points
-
I've noticed there's a lot of people posting about how to stop griefing, so I thought I'd go to the source, and try to establish why people grief. There'll be no judgement from me here, all I ask is that if you reply, try to be as honest as possible as to why. Cheers.1 point

-Load up in a zone you don't plan on farming in, then travel to the area of your choice -Always play defensively = check map, shoot first then relocate, etc - (Do not assume people are friendly at first, assume the opposite) BIGGEST TIP = Get the ability 'never without one' - it requires you to be level 48 (I know) but this gives you a free headshot to retaliate before it is too late, if you are on your horse you can quickly equip another hat -If you are a fisher, use the companion app to bring up your map to see if you are being rushed. -BUY horse insurance. -Avoid major hotspots when farming ( blackwater, saint denis, valentine = depending on the population of server) -Ride to a farther butcher if needed, just hunt along the way. I personally have never been griefed, but these little tips have helped me out. I also shoot everyone that rides directly at me first - but I don't pursue them afterwards. Think about it, even the npcs get angry if you ride to close.... Good luck out there - hope any of these small tips helped.1 point

Networking engineer since 20 years. Never stopped playing. Started with coax, seen birth of 10BaseT, then used token ring, FDDI, ATM, then all the Ethernet variants up to 40GB and now using VoIP, WiFi and all the rest on top of our enterprise customers. Big fan of RDR since 2010 on XBOX 360. Now RDR2 on PS4. Gamertag: Mpegforever (PSN) Free time ? yes, sure. Walk with my dogs. And oh yes, have a wife, still 1.0. Last night talking with another player and he asked if I beat the game yet. I said no, I am trying to do as much as I can in one experience. He then tells me that he beat it in under 48 hours. He then wants to brag about how he finished it before me. I personally don't care I am enjoying the game. So other then being rude. Why is it players feel a need to rush through the game? By the way, he did no side missions, hunting, fishing, or anything else that was not part of a mission.1 point

The griefing and trolling is a little out of hand , something needs to change to keep everyone happy. An argument could be made that people ambushed, robbed and killed at will in the old west, so we should just deal with it in the game. But when the trolling is literally stopping us from getting to play all the game has to offer, it needs to be limited... There is one exception when comparing the old west to this game. In the old west, when you killed someone or died, that was it, that was the end of it, they couldn't kill you again, it was over. With this in mind, I think I have a fair solution for everyone. The basics: Anyone can be killed, THREE times per lobby session, after that you have a cease fire and your location dot is removed from the map. Any killing of another player makes your location dot permanent on the map and forfeits the cease fire for that lobby session. So if the recently deceased kills someone back, then the cease fire is lifted and killing is fair game for that lobby session, if they do nothing, then they are unable to be killed after their 3rd death. This way, the only way they can repeatedly kill/troll you is if you shoot and kill them. This allows people to attack mission runs and and allows others decide if they want to fight. So basically this would allow people who want to do nothing but shoot and kill to do so with an entire lobby of 32 people, but not repeatedly kill the same people and hunt spawn points/stores unless they fight back. Thoughts?1 point

A few years back I had 2 friends. 1st one was dating a girl, things was going well. He was on the verge of proposing. Had the ring and everything. 2nd guy a bachleor for life kind of guy. So the night that the 1st guy decided to propose, he asked us all to join the 2 of them out for dinner, drinks, and dancing afterwards. So we got my 2 buddies, the girlfriend, a friend of hers, my wife and I. Now the 1st guy doesn't dance, but the 2nd guy did. So he danced with the other girls and as the night went on, he focused his attention on my friend's girl. Now the 1st guy wasn't given a chance to make his proposal cause the 2nd guy kept the girl distracted. Her friend wasn't happy and asked if someone could take her home. So the 1st guy said he could and he would be right back. By the time he returned the other 2 had slept together. The 2nd guy know how the 1st guy felt. He didn't have to pursue this girl, he did. She allowed it to happen. In the end the 2 guys hate each other. She has nothing to do with either. Yet, when the 2nd guy and I talked about it. His excuse was it was an accident. Nothing about his actions was an accident. For whatever reason he did it on purpose and he could have avoided it all together. Trolling is the same. They don't have to. They know better, but choose too. Rockstar has opened the door, but how a person plays the game, is completely on them.1 point

No one is crying. For what they made off of the sales of the game the cost of the updates shouldn't be an issue at this point. I am happy the cheap exploits get shutdown, I hate when players use them. You are right that the playerbase has issues, everyone wanting everything too easy. So yes that includes players buying their way into the game, instead of playing the game. You are right when saying that no one hated Rockstar for giving free things away, especially around Christmas. The Gold Cards are just a sign that this will be nothing more then a GTA Online remake for cash grab. Which means thing are about to get out of hand if not already for some. Note: It was only 15 gold bars by the way.1 point

......and possibly a sign that progress on this beta may continue to progress faster than some anticipated (e.g. more items and activities to be added soon). It doesn't benefit R* to implement an MTX system and then dally about.1 point
-
More importantly, it serves as confirmation that progress will be retained at the end of Beta. It's going to be difficult to explain how they can "sell" gold during the beta, only to have purchases rolled back or deleted later on. Sure, your progress may be reset, but anything purchased with Gold will undoubtedly be tied to the account, not the character.1 point

The Varmint rifle is over rated. The simple counter is to not engage in wide open/run and gun type combat with auto aimers that use the varmint rifle. ONE shot with a bolt action and express rounds to any part of the body will leave them open for a simple kill with any gun next shot. And use ability cards that block head shot kills.1 point

Ya but its R* that gives the trolls the tools needed to easily be di*ks with. I mean i don't work for R*. But it doesn't take a genius to see that always on blips and auto aim is meat grinding made easy. Just look at GTA O. Its clear R* likes trolls because it it hinders it screws over players trying to make money and hopefully pushes them towards cash cards. And in RD O. You got missions, for example the Bonnie Missions.. one is find and hunt the bear. So after tracking it down and killing it, the game decides to show everyone on the map you got a bear pelt and encourages people to come and get it... When it should NOT show anyone anything because its none their business.1 point

Hi Tenti, loved your post, thanks. I'm not new to gaming, but I'm a very casual gamer. Having played since the days of Pong (I remember travelling half the country to see one of the first machines), and having spent far too long in dark rooms playing Defender and Asteroid, I know what we went through to get here, and I am just overwhelmed with the RDR2 world, still, weeks later, with games as John, Arthur, and my online character Esther Pangloss going, I can still get mindlessly lost in the beauty of a ride through the Cumberland Forest, I still get alligator-anxious down in Lemoyne, and I felt great the first time I landed a Channel Catfish, huge it was, so I grunt and heave it on the back of Meg, my trusty Shire, trot off to the butchers in St Denis, big smile on my face, waving (cos it's about all I can emote so far...) and I'm standing at the butchers when I get shot in the head. God I was pissed. Like yourself, I understand, I like nothing more than getting one over as well, and if I'm in a fight I'll give as good as I get, but just now it's just annoying. More often than not I'll ride away from that if I can, or go into a Race Series (cos I'm better at riding than shooting and we should always play to our strengths) I would love to see some sort of bounty arrangement beyond the current feud/parley choice to discourage that behaviour, or partition off New Austin with free-for-all rules (which it almost is already, go there at your peril) But at the same time I take the point that it's a wild world, Online adds that danger element which if you don't like, stick to Story mode. My hope is that the headshotters bore quickly, and people with imagination, who love a role-play, who like to race and shoot, who appreciate that this is a toy and a game and not a piece of work, not a grind, is something to be enjoyed, that they stay, people who'll be impressed with such a sweet little old woman landing such a humongous fish...1 point

I agree, it must have been obvious to any tester at R* that the sights on the guns look bad and in some cases plain wrong. It is not like it is rocket science to understand that the sight should not be bent. So yes, R* should have made a better job with that part even if the game is mainly made for playing in third person.1 point

I’ve had this frame rate drop happen to me after the last patch too, mainly when on horseback. Ill check again after this more recent patch and doing a hard reset on the console (whenever my partner allows me to use the console next)1 point

Well I get it when someone kills you at the butcher and tries to steal your pelts. Or when your doing a stranger misson and they try to steal your cart. But people who shoot someone just randomly without gaining anything or without reason is just retarded.1 point

Ok I figured it out. If you're as clueless about gaming consoles as I am here's the solution: My Xbox One X is NOT on power saving mode so the system never really turns off. I guess turning off the system in this mode actually puts it in a kind of sleep mode (?) <- My best guess. You have to hard restart the system by holding down the power button on the console for about 5 seconds or until it turns off completely and the system will fully shut off and the frame rate goes back to normal upon restart. I guess the update triggered lag or something. Hopefully this helps anyone else in my position.1 point

I had to do this last night. I hate reporting people for just pissing me off but these dudes were straight up being racist, be it to be funny or not it wasn't right and they were targeting a solo player too. I shaved her head so you could see the eyebrows. I send this in as a bug report to rockstar. This is a bug, in creation I chose an eyebrow, and after the first cut scene it put another eyebrow in black on her face. So she has one that is black and one that is brown. its hard to tell in the lighting. No one in real life has two seperate eyebrows give me a break. I never said my character was hideous. i made this post on day one before I did any editing. There are only 3 okay looking presets for the females. The rest of them just look like a joke. And trust me it took me 3 days to get her to look decent. the preset is ugly without editing. She still is not anywhere near the female NPC's in the game, which I find unfair. And sense there are only a few decent presets every female looks the same (most are preset 11). I am not sure why they bothered making 11 presets when only a few are usable.1 point

Whaaat? Whaaaat does this even mean? Theres nothing overly complicated about this game. And the pace of the game is up to to the player. You can't complain about not making 'progress' if you stop playing the game. IMO this is the best game i've played in years.1 point

You can't report what is allowed in the game by design and unfortunately, the way R* set up their online experience, trolling is perfectly acceptable. On the other hand I have reported players for vulgar, verbal threats and racist remarks. .....and I would encourage others too as well. I usually choose an area like Ambarino to spawn in. I will immediately crouch when I arrive, ready my weapon, move (while crouched) to cover, look at my minimap for other players and then the big map if there is no immediate threat. I will observe other players / posses to see what they are doing on the map and take note of those who appear to be trolls or active in PvP engagements. I then call in my horse and make a plan of where I want to go and the things I plan to do. When solo, I simply plan my routes around other players. ....especially any of those I noticed were engaged in combat with other players. I also look for areas on the map that are mostly empty. I always keep an eye on my minimap and as soon as I see a pink dot, I open the big map to see where they are and get an idea of what they are doing. I adjust my route as needed. When hunting, I will usually plan a route to a vacant town (with a butcher) and then hunt along the way. However, I'm also flexible as some destinations can become active during the time it takes to get there. In those cases, I simply select another that isn't. To be honest, it is rare that I am attacked when playing alone and it will typically happen as I spawn in (depending on where I choose).1 point

Stage 1: Prevention. Avoid known trouble spots, like Valentine and Blackwater. When newly spawned always crouch, hide and map. Toggle horse settings to posse only and turn off chat. Check map for pinks and avoid, take detours rather than encounter. Be in a posse, watch each other's backs, always look tough and ready for a fight. Be extra vigilant when carrying pelts or nearing a butcher. If you have to pause, be in a shop. Stage 2: Engagement. If lassoed, break free and shoot. Have solid weapons, like sawn offs or varmint or Lancaster, upgraded, loaded, clean, and ready to roll. Keep your eye on pinks at all times. Trust no one. Be good at head shots - adjust auto aim settings and practice if needed. Stage 3: Grief the griefer. Be prepared to kill them four or five times if necessary. Be ready after just killing them, they'll probably be out for revenge. Kill their horse. Stage 4: Walk away. It's just a game, you respawn, your horse can be healed, and you can just go to menu and go to another server far way from the troll that's been hassling you. Often it's not even worth getting into a fight, just let them kill you and walk away. Who cares? If you want, report them or name and shame them here online. Don't ever let bullies force you out or off the playground. It's yours as much, if not more, than theirs.1 point
-
If there's more than one, I'll actually let one of them kill me four times, Parley with them, then go after the others. Ican handle myself in a straight up fight, but fighting off more than one can be really hard work. I'll also leave when I get bored. Little tip... Most griefers will come after you.. Let them. You can take cover and possibly get the drop on them. If they're waiting for you to attack, just walk away. Play by your rules, not theirs..1 point
