Looks like today is the day when some of the "hands on" get revealed. Tons of information is streaming through Twitter right now. A lot of good stuff. ......too much to digest right now.

Yeah, but it's nice to see that they want to still make RDO a unique experience appropriate to the franchise (rather than a cookie cutter solution).

I posted this in the online subforum but figured I would post it here as well. RDR2 Online announced for release in November as a beta: https://rockstarintel.com/2018/09/19/red-dead-online-announced-launching-november-2018/ “Today we’re excited to announce Red Dead Online, a new online connected experience set against the backdrop of Red Dead Redemption 2’s enormous open world. Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways. Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players. Red Dead Online is planned for launch in November 2018, initially as a public beta, with more news to come soon. As with most online experiences of this size and scale, there will inevitably be some turbulence at launch. We look forward to working with our amazing and dedicated community to share ideas, help us fix teething problems and work with us to develop Red Dead Online into something really fun and innovative. Access to Red Dead Online is free to anyone with a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.” .....and more details about RDO (credit to Kirsty from GTAFORUMS):

.....what "certain" processes? Sounds mysterious (if not a little creepy I must admit). btw, there is also a club section on this site at your disposal where you can include descriptions, make it "invite only", etc.: https://www.rdr2.org/forums/clubs/

Thanks Benjo. -
Should we be worried that R* fails RDR-Online?
Kean_1 replied to MementoMori's topic in Red Dead Online
I'm not worried. Yeah, sure..... There is no doubt in my mind that they will introduce an MTX system like they had in GTAV (e.g. Shark Cards) but there will still be ways to make money in the game simply by playing the various activities. However, I personally prefer this over a "pay to win" system where unique and better equipment is locked behind a paywall. That isn't how GTAV:O operated and I don't expect that is the way it will be in RDR2:O. I've played many hours of GTAV:O and still do. I made lots of money, started several businesses, bought many cars, aircraft, etc. ....never bought a single Shark Card. I have also only spent a couple hours at most in a public session with randoms. Most of my time was spent playing cooperatively with friends or sometimes randoms doing missions, heists, etc. I also play alone in public sessions to perform some business missions that you can only do in public sessions (there are also many videos on how to do this and make money quickly in the game). I have a feeling RDR2:O will be a better online experience than GTAV:O was for folks like me who didn't care for the excessive competitiveness / griefing of PvP. Personally, I didn't mind the MTX model in GTAV but I guess for those who did, maybe they won't like RDR2. .....but then again, GTAV:O still remains wildly popular and I have no doubt RDR2:O will too. -
Should we be worried that R* fails RDR-Online?
Kean_1 replied to MementoMori's topic in Red Dead Online
GTAV is a totally different game and I have confidence that R* realizes that what may have worked there, won't necessarily work in an RDR environment. We've already been told that certain elements will be different like the radar system. ......which will only show other players in the immediate vicinity. Personally, I'd save any feelings of angst until the next teaser trailer releases which I believe will cover multiplayer. In either case, I don;t think R* is stupid enough to attempt to create a GTAV:O experience in RDR2:O. In either case, I am sure there will be different online features for those who prefer a more coop playstyle over PvP. You say this will be your first R* online experience? If so, I have to ask..... What are you basing your judgement of GTAV online on? Yes, there is a lot of griefing/silliness but in that game, it is actually encouraged and (like it or not) it fit. However, RDR2 isn't the same and I don't see R* treating it as such. -
RDR2 will have a more realistic economy
Kean_1 replied to BelleStarr's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
....agreed. I'm also sure this was feedback R* paid attention to from GTAV and will try to adjust for in RDR2. Given what they learned from GTAV, perhaps they can set up a more realistic economy in RDR2. -
Are you happy RDR2 has a single protagonist?
Kean_1 replied to GatoNegro's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
I'm actually very confident in R*'s ability to deliver a good product here. I'm glad they don't simply try to mimic GTAV's components to try and create another success but actually seem to want to build a unique experience true to the RDR series. .....at least that's the impression I get from the interviews, marketing and everything we've seen so far. After 30+ years of gaming, I rarely fall for hype these days or anticipate that a game will be great before I actually get my hands on it, but this is different for me given R*'s track record. I trust they will do it right and that I will enjoy the character(s), gameplay, activities, etc. -
Really depends on how the online mode is designed. I would want to go it alone in GTAV but in RDR2, who knows. I also have a couple good PSN friends that I know will play online consistently with me so I don't think it will be a problem for me either way. I've also met some nice folks from here that may want to team up as well.

Yeah, I saw this news. .....but they lost me at "Gamestop employee". I hate the stores for several reasons and quite frankly, I never thought of their employees as being any sort of reliable, objective source of info on the subject of gaming, hardware, etc. Very similar to my experiences with most auto part stores. Just because someone works there doesn't make them a subject matter expert. Many don't know their "you know what" from a hole in the ground.

Just WoW......

Been there and done that. Quite frankly, I don't know how I survived the first few months or year and I was already into my 40s which didn't help. ....got progressively back to a normal state after about 2-3 years. It's much better when they can communicate, tell you where it hurts, follow directions, etc. ....a lot more fun too. I think I stopped gaming for the first few months after my son's birth and even cut cable TV once I realized we hadn't watched it literally for 3 months (stuck with Netflix and Prime). As Creed said, don't be afraid to ask for help. I actually semi-retired over a year ago just as a quality of life decision. I drop off /pick up my son from elementary school, help him with his homework, etc., etc. It was a great move for us and my boy is so much happier and less stressed than when we both had full time careers. After 30 years in tech, I got tired of the corporate grind anyhow (my wife still enjoys it). I have some welding projects I'll be starting once the weather cools down so that will help keep me sane and maybe even help make a little scratch on the side. I hope it all goes well. If you have family that can help you guys take breaks, that will make a world of difference. .....trust me.

Yeah. There's a lot of news coming in about closed door reveals. I'm sure they are going to drop a lot of stuff on us soon.

I tend to revisit campaigns at least one more time when there is a lul between game releases. Did it with RDR, GTA V, TLOU, Witcher 3, BG series, Mafia III, Watch Dogs series, XCOM series, GRW and many others. However, there are few in that long list that I will actually finish all the way to the end after already doing it once. Usually, a new title will release by then or I will get bored. What I really value in an SP game are things like dynamic side missions, a mission generator / editor or other components like that which provide meaningful replay value. In GTAV, I spent a lot of time on a solo server just plating missions that I could do myself. .....even did/do the same thing in public forums using a trick to isolate myself on the server. That in itself game provided me with many hours of fun. I hope I can do something similar in RDR2. I do know that I will spend a lot of time with friends in this game as well.

The controllers were cheap though. They broke a couple times on me until we finally couldn't fix them. My Dad may still have thing hanging around in his garage somewhere. I think my Intellivision is in my home office with my C64. .....which reminds me that I really need to clean out that closet.
-
I had one of those. My friend did too but he had the voice synthesizer add on. This was my first console system:

.....or even at the half century mark like me.
-
You really need to visit that title. Talk about a bridge between gaming and cinema. You want to talk about storytelling? .......TLOU has it in spades. It's worth it IMO.
-
I agree but you have to admit that the stigma surrounding gaming as an adult is nowhere near where it was in the 80's and 90's. It's accepted way more now than it ever was. Many adults used to be embarrassed to even buy games back in those days. ......"yeah, it's for my son".

Honestly, in my own opinion, although both may share some obvious similarities in mechanics, etc., I still think each game will offer enough of a difference in the gameplay experience to be judged on their own merits. I really don't anticipate RDR2 to simply be a GTAV set in another era. I do believe R* is smart enough to create a separate experience for players that perhaps uses some mechanics from GTAV but still has its own distinct feel. I even predict that the online portion of RDR2 will be quite a bit different than GTAV. Even if some people didn't like GTAV, I don't think that is a reason they will not like RDR2. There are fans of RDR that never liked GTA. Misconceptions might be a reason though.
