No doubt. I think the debate has to do with the fact that GTAV encourages/rewards troll-like behavior while others may discourage or even penalize players for it. ......but yeah, trolls will always find ways. I will say that the notion GTAV may owe part of its popularity to this demographic is not lost on me. I just hope they depart from that model in RDR2.
-
Who said it was? The context of my quote was in the discussion of GTAV specifically.
-
Personally, I don't believe we should really blame folks for doing it since it is within the rules and it's even encouraged simply by design. ....even in their marketing. They essentially want people to troll each other. It's part of the gameplay. Do I think it's sad? .....heck yeah. I also don't find it fun in the least but that's what the masses enjoy. As long as they don't cheat, they can kill and grief at will all within the rules R* has established. I just hope RDR2 online doesn't follow the same pattern.

I agree. ...it's sad.

Yet with another setback.......................
Kean_1 replied to YodaMan 3D's topic in Red Dead Online
Personally, I still had a lot of fun playing GTAV online in solo mode and friends only mode. There are other options on how to play that game online other than in the general mix. ....where I do agree it is nothing more than a grief-fest. You will still get invites for missions from randoms if you want to as well invite others to fill empty slots in your crew without having to be in a general population session. I have even played in the general session mode by myself or with friends to take advantage of some of the VIP missions that you can only play in that mode. On PS4 it's as simple as changing your MTU settings and then the game won't match you with anyone when you join. If I had one major complaint about GTA online it would be that. R* forces players to play in a general session if they want to build some of their businesses. .....although you still have some flexibility with MC operations. If they would allow it to be invite only, I would be happy. Pong? .....sounds like you've been gaming as long as I have (since the 70s). My first console was a Bally Arcade. My first "real" PC (not counting my Commodore) that I was able to buy for myself had a 386 processor (the SX variant if I recall). .....exciting stuff back then. -
Yet with another setback.......................

....and with the other leaked news we were reading recently, it sounds like RDR2 may be even a bit more ambitious than some were thinking. I just want them to get the game right and I'm sure they realize that a half-hearted attempt is not an option for this title. They already set the benchmark with GTAV and if RDR2 proves to be on the same scale of success, R* will further forge their reputation in the gaming industry. .....anything short of that will likely draw sharp criticism simply due to the high level of expectation. -
How hard is it to transition from pc to console?
Kean_1 replied to Dunrico's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
Most definitely in regard to the hardware itself, keeping up with the demand from new games, compatibility issues, etc. .....consoles are just plug and play with games. On the other side of the coin, there are genres that are done so much better on PC than on console like flight sims, milsims, etc. Some games can also look a lot better on PC depending on your set up. I stopped gaming on PCs when I stopped building them. I have been tempted though.... I figure I would be playing some of the latest flight sims and military shooters like Squad. I probably would even get into ARMA (I played Op Flashpoint extensively). There are certainly pros and cons to each platform. -
....was thinking the same thing. ....or a room in town.

How hard is it to transition from pc to console?
Kean_1 replied to Dunrico's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
Really? I've had the complete opposite experience. .....folks with concerns going from PC to console. Nearly everyone these days uses a PC in one way or another during their daily lives. ....including a mouse. IMO, it is much easier to point and shoot with a KB/M combo not to mention fly with a joystick, drive with a JS or wheel, etc. .....peripherals most console gamers don't have. My most difficult issue when first switching over to console was shooting as well as flying to some extent. .....I was used to using a joystick with a throttle control, HAT and additional, mappable buttons. Driving was also a little bit of a challenge depending on the game and simply wasn't as accurate as my wheel or even my JS. On the other hand, consoles are great in that you can just sit on the couch, kick your feet up and start to play. It didn't take me long to get good at shooting, racing and flying to be honest. You just have to give yourself some time and try not to get frustrated. ....you'll get used to it before you know it. -
Just saw a link posted up on Reddit. You can see that they apparently received the memo back in August but didn't want to release the details since they were not able to substantiate it. However, with more recent details / screenshots release more recently by R*, they feel the information is now legitimate enough to share. I think they've got something there.

Just saw this on Reddit from ScubaChickenPalace. It's an article regarding leaked details of RDR2 including a Battle Royale mode. The article is from Trusted Reviews and here's a link: http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/red-dead-redemption-2-leak-reveals-battle-royale-first-person-more-3388634

Yet with another setback.......................
Kean_1 replied to YodaMan 3D's topic in Red Dead Online
....and what makes you believe they are not trying? I can understand your disappointment. .....I'm disappointed too. Quite frankly though, it's not going to change my mind when the game finally arrives. I will still gladly make the purchase as will many, many others. Whether its available now or 8 months from now, it's still a game I have been waiting for ever since I played the first iteration. ....this delay won't change that. -

Are We Looking At Another Red Dead Redemption 2 Delay?
Kean_1 replied to NewsBot's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
These articles regarding the rumors on this subject are all just baseless assumptions at this point until we can get some sort of official stance from R*. While some speculation can be fun, this is really a waste of time and effort IMO. These types of stories do tend to get people's attention though. -
Yeah, I hear ya. Those are the things that can really ruin the experience for me as well. In PvE / Co-Op I found that it really pays off to play with friends rather than randoms. It helps with PvP too but it's the "v" part that is the issue. In GTAVs case, you have no choice when trying to run missions in Online mode with a bunch of randoms who seem hell bent on griefing everyone. ......although I use a well known method to still be able to play on online servers alone for the purposes of resupplying and deliveries.
-
As long as RDR2 has a solo online and "friends only" online, I'm ok with a similar online model as GTAV. Quite frankly, I prefer online games that promote cooperation over PvP whether that is in a selectable or option. What I never liked was GTAVs style of forcing players to play competitively online if you wanted to run businesses, etc. With all the griefers out there, it's just not fun. The Division was the same way with the Dark Zone. It was a great idea (and initially pitched as such) where you could meet random strangers who were also Division agents and choose to help or move on to defeat enemy NPCs, accomplish objectives, etc. ....and yeah, you could also kill each other if you so chose to. .....guess what most people decided to do?
-
Yeah.... It's gone from his page now.

When you guys think we will see an open Beta going?
Kean_1 replied to SNAK3S's topic in Red Dead Online
What you're talking about is usually considered a closed beta for "invite only" (open being "open" to all). ....but as folks mentioned, I'm not sure if I would even count on that. Even on closed betas where folks may have to sign an NDA, there's no guarantee of stopping leaks. -
What is PS4 getting in terms of special content/DLC?
Kean_1 replied to Glopez's topic in Red Dead Online
RDR was a great game and GTAV will go down in history. Compared to other titles I've had bad pre-release doubts about, RDR2 is certainly not one I would count among them. Rockstar has a good track record so far in my book. -
It wouldn't have to.

Kean_1 replied to Glopez's topic in Red Dead Online
Agreed... On another note, I already collected the double action revolver in GTA V for RDR2. -
No doubt it is a different game but the point is simply to show that the concept does work in practice which gives weight to those who are suggesting it. Whether or not RDR2 will include something similar is another story. I don't see it as an unfair comparison in that respect.

Ghost Recon Wildlands used a similar mechanic in their core game. You could choose whether to leave your game open to friends as you played or switch to "invite only". If a friend did choose to join your "friends only" session, your AI team would disappear and your friend would spawn nearby. ....and vice versa. The change was absolutely seamless for the session owner and worked very well. The downside was if you right in the middle of a mission where you may have been depending on that AI but that was usually overcome rather quickly. Besides, you always had the option to turn off the feature if you're in such a situation and rather not be disturbed. My main point is that the mechanic works and there are things that can be tweaked easily enough to help prevent some of the issues folks here have brought up. When friends joined, they saw the same cutscenes, etc. in the story as the main character (just as you would if you were playing it yourself). It worked quite well and I would love to be able to play co-op in the RDR2 main campaign.
