I Can Smell the Dying Animal !! It stinks !!
lumper replied to jnaron_ngc's topic in Red Dead Online
Fair enough, I think you have developers who care about the art, the game, its final product, etc.. and then you have board members, a secondary company in "Take 2" you have responsibilities that go way beyond the game when millions of dollars of other peoples money is on the line, similar to making a movie, so I dont condemn the entire company, I try to understand. To your point, I agree 100% I dont know how long they expect players to hang in there, and I bet there are people within the company that are very concerned as well. but they arent the ones at the helm at this moment, I too worry about what is going on, but I know they arent going to let this game just fall apart. Let's say they lose their audience in a big way, like literally thousands of people just stop playing the game, once they get it done, all they have to do is hype it up a bit, and just like that they will build a new audience ready to play an amazing game, so big picture thinking, it sucks it isnt done, it sucks we cant get information that would help us understand what is going on, but the game is amazing and all we can do is wait, hope for the best, and I continue to thank them for making such a great game in the first place. I wish it were different and I really hope it comes sooner than later. I also think about those 5 hours of cut material from the story mode and wonder if they are going to try to work some of that into the online mode with mission givers or maybe even a single player dlc, and that gets me excited all over again. The one good thing is we have something to look forward too and thats pretty great to still have that anticipation 6 months after the game launched. Yeah I agree I am sure you are on to something with that observation, I think when I was playing the single player these boards were a lot more active or at least seemed tht way, but then again a lot of information was coming out and people were making discoveries and many things were happening as everyone was actively playing the game more, now that so many have completed the single player I bet it has slowed down somewhat. -
I to tried bait for a Moose in the north, it never worked for the Moose, it attracted others, wild horses, deer, rabbits, etc.. but never the Moose I was hunting for, so yeah it works somewhat but as was said, you are better of just going to a spot where the animal you want is known to spawn and then look around for it, leave and come back etc..

You can find it in West Elizabeth, between tall trees and blackwater all over the plains, also you can find it from just east of Emerald station off the tracks all the way to north Annesberg, and you can also find Black Courrant in New Austin all over, looks almost identical. Once you see some, you will see it everywhere you look, it is very easy to spot as they grow tall.

Funny you say that, I dont see any benefit in saddles at all, I bought from the "Special saddles" list, which I think are the ones from single player that you unlocked through the trapper if I am not mistaken, I had the cougar one with the cool handle on it, or the snakeskin one also, I cant see any in there that are any better in stats, but to be honest I didnt really look very hard, as I was happy with the one I bought and figured it was like the single player portion of the game, you didnt need to build a saddle or upgrade one if you had one of the "special" saddles. Again if we disagree thats ok, lol we dont have to agree on things, you define a griefer differently than I do, that doesnt make it right, its just a difference. To me a griefer is anyone who goes out of their way to bring you grief, or ruin your time in game, anything at all, if you dont leave me alone, if you decide to engage me and I didnt invite it, your a griefer to me.

I was thinking about this. The opposite has been happening to me, I spawn with my guns clean and my cores full. I wonder, do you shut the game off via the story mode menu? I know that when I am going to quit, I open up the pause menu, go to story, and then select exit game, and then A to confirm, and then from there through the xbox menu right click on the game name and chose quit. I noticed a video where a guy was explaining ways to shut it down and how if you did it another way it was like the game crashed to the game and you would re spawn next time with whatever you had prior to the "crash". I dont know, maybe it has nothing to do with it for you, but I wanted to ask just in case you hadnt considered this. Try shutting down that way if you havent already, if you have then never mind, it was just a thought to try. Since I upgraded my tent when I spawn now my cores and bars are nearly full if not completely full every time.

My thoughts exactly, be patient, trust R* and try not to over think it, we get it, its not ideal, but let's see what happens after the Spring update. Personally I think the greatness will come later, I dont even think the Spring update will "complete" the game, I think it will deliver what they explained to us in Feb, but there will still be many things not done, It will be a while yet I believe, but I have faith. I played the Single player 3 x, once in a rush to see the whole story, then a second time, just to go see all the stuff I rushed by the first time, the third and final time, I did it so I could see everything in game as I played the story, it was amazing, and I know the people who made that game, want the online to be just as great, so try to be patient and let them finish the game. -
I am finding many new players, lower ranked players, are starting off and experimenting and often are aggressive. So when you see blue blips, and they arent obvious until they are upon you, when they act aggressively it makes it tough, the whole point of blue vs red was to protect the blue non aggressive blips from the more aggressive red blips. I dont know why they arent upgraded to red as soon as they attack a few people, but it seems that many are not. The problem with this is you cant trust them, so I have been telling new players (I met a level 5 yesterday) how it works, but I had to add to my advice, "lately blue blips under level 25 have proven to be hostile, so be careful, when you see anyone approach you at speed especially just be prepared for a possible fight, have your weapons ready and if you have a mic use it, introduce yourself, ask them not to grief you, tell them what you are doing , I find this can diffuse a lot of situations, I know it stopped a few attacks in my case." It doesnt always work, but it does help. Also, any player can spend gold to buy their honor back, so a red blip can be a blue blip anytime they want for some gold in game. When I see three new players, a level 5, a 12 and a 14 hanging around a level 61 all in a posse and all around Rhodes lets say, I know enough to avoid the butcher in Rhodes for the time being. Its not that I cant dispatch 4 newer players I just would rather not lose my carcasses and stowed animals if I am in a grind for something, I will wait them out or go to another butcher, whereas if I see the same thing, 4 players, but over level 61, say a couple 125's and a 90 I know 90% of the time, they arent griefers, even if they are red blips, and getting to the butcher wont be a problem, so... take it for what it is, know your place and dont trust anyone 100% but new players the least, as they are unpredictable.

Thats great, and to reach out to a new player to help them is what I think an open world game is all about at times, Thats really cool of you to do that. I know as a new player I would be very apprehensive about any invites, but if someone reached out to me and said " hey I saw those players messing with you, do you want a little help dealing with them or want to get some revenge and even things up, 2 vs 2 etc.. I think that would have been great. I too like helping new players that I run across, I play with a mic on for now on, as it can defuse things before they happen and it is good for meeting people.

Ok, thanks for the reply When your bored, and you invite someone, if they join what is the plan, what do you say to them? And daily challenges? I dont see any that require the help of others, other than killing players, but you can join pvp and kill players for daily challenges so I dont understand the need for another person for a daily challenge, but I miss alot and wanted to ask you about it because you can probably teach me something that I am missing. Thanks again, give me an example of a daily challenge you would do with another person in your posse.

It isnt a great picture, I was using these to send to R* about a clothing glitch I was experiencing, I still am actually. I made my character to look like a combination of the Old minor from Disney;s Thunder MT Railroad roller coaster and a mash up of Bob Dawson and other outlaws from the 1950's and 1960's Western Tv shows. A little over weight, a few scars, bad teeth, a few warts, an older guy who has survived the Indian wars, the carpet baggers, the sheep herders, and cattle rancher wars, someone who has seen a lot and experienced a lot, and lived to tell about it, a post civil war guy, who fought in the war in the 1860's and now in the 1890's he is just looking for some peace and quiet, but knows how to fight and survive if need be. He isnt perfect or meant to be, his weathered face tells a million stories, he likes the simple things like good whiskey and a good horse, and a good stew, he is a little thick in the middle after years of taking it easy and enjoying life along the way, this is the character I made. I also wanted a unique character and if you look around, I have not seen a single other character that is over weight, everyone is in perfect health and sorry but it just isnt realistic, in my 71 levels I have not seen or met a single player with a character that was made intentionally overweight, not one.
-
Have you all looked at your player in the pause menu? See if you are over weight, cold, underweight etc..? In there, any drains attached to you will be shown, I dont know why but sometimes my drain rate is 900% and other times it is 6%, I dont know exactly why other than being too hot or cold on top of being over weight. Since I invested in the second largest tent, it is super quick to get my cores back up as they go way up when I spawn in now and after a minute at camp they are 100%, but the drain was crazy for me a few times and I had to address it, I cant play when I have a 900% drain rate, lol you can watch it drain like a leak in a tire.

If that is your opinion then you are certainly entitled to it, I disagree, strongly. I have never seen a game with such good acting, good story, great graphics, and physics, or AI, etc ever in my life and I have been playing video games for a long time, since 1975 or before, that is my earliest memory of it, 74, / 75. Not only that but they broke the mold of finishing a game within the deadline no matter what, even if that game isnt quite right or could be better, Rockstar said no way, we arent releasing this game until it is near perfect, (talking about the single player game) they werent willing to sacrifice any quality for time or money, and that is a huge step in the right direction for gamers who want the best. If you dont think the game is amazing and realize that with enough time, they will release a great product then why do you care so much, just move on to a better game. I think the reason so many people are so upset, is they are very passionate about the game and they want to play it right now, and they arent considering what it took to make this game and the fact that yeah, they fell behind on budget and time, get over it, its not the end of the world, it is a video game, and they arent going to hurry it along because you want to play it right now, they didnt listen to their board of directors and they arent going to listen to us either. It is a matter of father knows best, they know your pissed, they know you wanted it yesterday, but they also know what they are capable of and they know what they want the game to look like and feel like and play like when it is done, so you have to trust them and just find something else to do in the meantime. It seems crazy to me, to ":demand" anything or to roast them over it and call them names and complain about them,etc.. this is a game you like, the people who made this game and put this much into it have my respect 100% and I will be patient, after seeing how amazing of an experience they already delivered in the single player version I have no doubt that they will make online as good as it can be in time. Acting like your mad, making threats to leave and not come back, etc.. all the things people are doing, they are doing out of frustration because they simply want to play the game in its glory, not this un-finished mess of a game that we have at the moment. Just hang in there, once it is released and fixed, everyone will come back, people say nope, Im out, Ive had it, they did this and that and because of that they lost me, well I Say good, see ya, we have plenty of players, and will have plenty more, there is no shortage of players, even now as it is and those who stayed away until it got better will come back when it does, why wouldnt they, again, this game is amazing on its own, the online portion of it will also be amazing, in time. IMO We just have to wait it out.

You and I can disagree, there is nothing wrong with that. And, I am not pinning so much on that, I just enjoy having a purpose or a goal to push through the levels, it makes it seem less of a tedious struggle and more of something I will enjoy doing, so just do it. Yes a griefer is a person who ruins your game, to me, if I am hunting, or fishing and you come up behind me and kill me for no reason and then my horse so that I lose the carcasses and stowed animals I had been catching then I am going to be pretty upset, now whether you call that person a griefer or not is up to you, to me they are and to me, they deserve to get it right back, ..sometimes, sometimes I dont feel like playing with them, so I will ignore them even after that, but for the most part, ruining my game is easy to do and doesnt fit in any exact mold. I also get the opportunist griefer, they dont plan it per say they just see you and last minute decide, "hey , I want to shoot that person", these too irritate me, and I like to be able to deal with them dramatically so again I would like to show a display of being well over armed and difficult to tangle with should you decide to pick me to start shooting at. I said I dont NEED explosive ammo to do it, but it will make it more fun for me since I know they dont have it and to show them that, hey you made a mistake by going out of your way to kill this person, maybe in the future after their boredom is dealt with they might think twice about who they are killing and refrain from killing someone over a certain level. I know for me anyone over level 55 seems fine, I never seem to have trouble with people at higher levels. Ive run into lots of different people in this game and most are fine, the ones that go after you arent as thick as they were 2 months ago, but I am finding that either new players, say under level 25 or players that are leveling up a new character after having already leveled up once are playing and they can be problematic too but honestly more and more it is new players. If I made it seem like omg I must have explsive rounds or I wont be able to do it then yeah, I mis-represented myself, its not that, Im just sick of it, and I really would like to end those quickly, I can think of no better way then to simply blow them up over and over until they parlay or quit and to me, that is best achieved with explosive ammo. sometimes I will tie them up and put them on the tracks in front of a train or in the swamp, but I really dont want to give them that much of my time, they dont deserve it.

I agree that it is frustrating to consider the game a full Beta at this point, BUT I remember that the developers went a year over their time budget and millions of dollars over their financial budget to bring us the single player game and the foundation of the online. They obviously had very lofty goals for the sake of business and the way things work, they were lucky to be in a position to control so much of that and have the freedom to do whatever it takes to deliver their vision and the best experience that they can. The single player game proves that, so to me it seems that they just ran out of time, and now that the game is out they have to juggle their responsibilities while scrambling to complete the game the way they had imagined it to be and all we can do at this point is have faith that they have our best interest in mind and they want the game to be great, I believe given enough time, they will deliver and amazing game and all we can do is try to be patient. I think many people myself included are frustrated because we love the game so much and we just want it to be done already so we can really get into it, but sadly that isnt where we are right now,. The good news is every week that passes brings us one week closer to the final product and its official release, if the game sucked people would have already moved on, this game is special and is going to help change the way games are made and what we as consumers will come to expect and demand more of, its all good for us,the only down side is we have to wait, and we have to be patient and we have to trust Rockstar to use this time wisely and get it all together, I think its going to be great, very soon.

Of course not, my questions/experiment were regarding one card in particular but my strategy and game play style require using a set of cards and I certainly do. This card is one of 4 I have equipped and all but one of my cards are tier 3, and the one that isnt will be very soon. I actually use two different sets for pvp depending on what game I am playing and what role I chose to play in that game, and then a set for free roam, well again 2 sets as I do plan to have a defensive and offensive play style card set equipped and ready to go whenever I need it. This one card, "Never without one" wasnt doing what I thought it would so I had questions, and once I got the answers I was able to adjust my set up accordingly. I feel really good about my card usage and set up right now.
-
One last thing, I almost forgot. I also learned that in "name your weapon" showdown pvp you get a shotgun, a pistol and a carbine repeater, well as it turns out, if you buy those in your free roam, then upgrade them at the gunsmith, when you join "name your weapon" your guns will be modified, so a little tip, an advantage over players who do not know this, I never knew this until today, I own the carbine and have it upgraded but not the shot gun, so there ya go. Since I am not that good, and trying to learn and get any advantage I can I dont know why I am telling you this since I am most likely going to be playing against you at least on Xbox lol, but hey fair is fair, if I know it, I am going to share it regardless.
-
That puts a huge smile on my face, if I can help anyone learn anything I did my job and learned something myself. I knew there had to be a way since the card is there, it made no sense to not spawn a hat every time. Anyway I am glad you too learned something new. I am now going to try this out or the first time, I upgraded my card to tier 2, and doubt I will update it further as it doesnt seem to serve a purpose.
-
Thanks Chris, as you were replying to this, I updated the post to reflect what I learned. Thanks again for your reply buddy, I appreciate it,

yep, there is that option as well. Lots of options, which is why I love this game, you can do whatever you want for satisfaction, whatever appeals to you, I enjoy that.

Nah they arent going to "wait it out" they are going to die, repeatedly, and hopefully parlay or leave, but if not, it is a simple matter of jumping sessions, crafting up more ammo, using the message system to track them down and jump back to their session, unless they know to mask themselves to pick up where I left off, but this is for extreme cases only, someone who really deserves it. Otherwise I dont care, revenge is revenge, when I run out of ammo, I can easily go to express, high velocity or even split point, and continue, explosive ammo isnt the only way to kill them, it is just the most fun and de-humanizing so it is my first choice, but the combo of slippery with any ammo still works well, and with my cards lengthening dead eye, and slowing how it gets used means lots and lots of attacks., never without one combined with slippery means even if they are lucky enough to get a head shot in, my hat will block it and I will put on another as I stay on my horse for these 99.99999% of the time. And hey, Im sure skilled players can fight back and even win in these cases sometimes, it isnt a sure thing at all, but in most cases I can seek revenge now without explosive ammo and do just fine, the extra ammo is just to really highlight their mistake, Im tired of level 14 players griefing, I find high level players never bother me, its only level 30 and under so far.

UPDATE: ( I found my answer, in asking the question, I found that many users did not know this so maybe it would be helpful to leave the post up for others as obviously many new members will be joining as time goes on and those who have only started to play the online portion of the game will undoubtably want this information at some point, otherwise if the mods feel it is useless then by all means take it down) If you havent read the question, the answer is, no you can not change the outfits you are allowed in a permanent posse, and yes if you make a persistent posse and equip an outfit from it, and then use the perk ability card, "Never without one" you will in fact re-spawn in showdowns with a hat every time. So if you use that card and have been finding that after you die you re-spawn with no hat, this is the fix until R* fixes this if they plan to at all. Also, the second question I asked was about making my own outifts and saving them to the persistant posse, answer is, No you can not,you only have the outfits that are there, you can not make your own and if you chose, "none" your hat will NOT re-spawn once killed in showdown. See below for my original post and question. I was hoping to hear from players with experience with posse's. I have a few questions. Outfits, can I make and save my own outfits to posse outfit settings? I see in my posse settings three choices, "none", "Big City" or "Rugged" What I would like to know is can I make my own outifts and save them to the my posse settings in place of the two that are there by default? I made the posse for one reason only, not to have others join me, this posse was made because I want to use the ability card "Never without one" in pvp, specifically showdown, BUT when I do, I get killed and spawn back without my hat, so the card is useless after the first time it deflects a head shot for me, after that it does nothing. So I had looked at a few videos and found out there is a way to make sure you spawn with a hat on in showdown and it was said that if you create a posse and use those outfits you will respawn with a hat, I havent been able to try this yet, I plan too try it today. So I noticed the supplied outfits and my first question became, can I change those outifts or can I add an outfit and save it to that list? Thanks for reading my question, and I appreciate any information from experienced posse user's.
-
It sounds pretty much like my experience as well. I just hit level 70 the other day and had to take a day or two off for some real life stuff, but the idea of grinding to level 95 seems in reach, so........explosive ammo here I come, griefers beware!! I cant wait.

ability card, never without one and your hat
lumper replied to lumper's question in Questions & Answers
Thanks for your replies. I heard that if you create a perm posse, and then use the posse outfits, you will respawn with your hat on in showdown. This is what I am trying to figure out, I created a posse., ($200) and it gives me two outfits built in for some reason, so I suppose if I wear one of those outfits I will be able to respawn with my hat on after I die in showdown. I still havent tried it, but today I will try to figuring this out. What I want to also figure out is why those two outfits? Can I make my own outfits and save them to my pose settings? or do I have to go with what the game provides me with? If I can make my own outfits that would be great, if not I will obviously run with whatever they give me if in fact this is the only way to make sure I re spawn with a hat on after dying in showdown. I feel like if I can get this to work then "Never without one" will be a good card for pvp, and yes I know in free roam how to get my hat back on and usually I am on my horse when attacked in free roam, so thats simple enough to get a hat back on from the weapon wheel. I have paint it black and slippery bastard I got slippery for two reasons, games like capture the flag in pvp and for revenge against griefers, otherwise I run with paint it black. I also go between never without one and either peak condition or the unblinking eye, and come back stronger, so my cards are designed around either lengthening the time dead eye can remain active for paint it black or slippery bastard, or restoring my health much faster than normal after I take damage, and making it so I deal more damage with my stamina is full. If I can get better at head shots I think this combo is great for me, I am still experimenting though as there are a few others I havent tried that people really like, like slow and stead and strange medicine. -
I tried this card in pvp and I found that after it was shot off my head once, it never re-spawned, I played the rest of the game with no hat, so the card was useless to me. What can I do to make sure I re-spawn with my hat on making this ability card useful to me in both free roam and pvp modes?? Thanks for any tips or help. I see people in videos use it and their hats re spawn so... I know it can be done, I just dont know how.,
-
So, what did you figure out, you can access dead eye with LT and weapon wheel? Tell me more please?
