Im new to online, played the sp three times, loved it. This will sound like a big cry baby rant, and maybe to some extent it is, so dont read it then. I just have not had 1 second of fun playing online and I feel violated when I am taken advantage of for not understanding how things work. I keep to myself, way away from towns and stuff, if I see activity I crouch down with my horse and wait it out, im just trying to hunt small animals so I can buy a rifle, people just wont let me be. I go online, set up a camp go hunting, three red dots follow me to my camp, when there they start running over my stuff, one steals my horse, as I chase them down, the others kill me, then they stay at my camp. I thought my camp was a save zone? My white flag is up , doesnt seem to make a bit of difference, why not? I just dont understand how to play. No manual? no instruction at all? are you kidding me? I am broke, level 7 no weapons worth anything, less than $200 and not 1 gold bar, all I want to do is hunt for a bit to get established, but people keep messing with me, and just taking advantage, I dont know how to stop them, I cant compete with my measly weapons and level so it just isnt fun, at all. I reported the main A hole but so what, it didnt do anything, he was still there to terrorize me. I used my mic, tried to talk to them, see what they wanted, they arent talking, just trying to steal my stuff and kill and harass me. For a game so good, how did they get the online so wrong? There is no manual of sorts to read and understand things, they just throw you to the wolves, I get it its beta, but wtf? I am so stressed out right now, over trying to just earn enough money to buy a real gun. I was hoping to just hunt, enough to buy a better rifle and a fishing pole, thats all, im not hurting anyone, I am not interested in killing others right now, Ill get to that later when I establish my player so he is a god fighter with a good array of items to use, right now he is a useless noob. Rockstar said if I 2 stepped verification, I would be rewarded, its been three days nothing, I logged in yesterday to a note saying Rockstar gifted me something, but then nothing came, zero, so I just dont get it. no rewards at all, I really need them, but I cant get an answer from filling out a support ticket and the game tells me nothing. There really needs to be some clear instructions, tutorials, safe zones for new players under level 25 to get established and try things out, I dont want to be terrorized by advanced players who just enjoy ruining others experiences, if Rockstar thinks thats funny, im out, F that. I cant believe the best most fun Single player game ive ever seen has such a terrible online situation I mean it is embarrassing I guess it just isnt for me, I really hoped I coudl enjoy it, but so far my experiences, 4 times I logged in and tried to get it going, and each time ended badly. I dunno, Im just a little bummed I cant figure this out, so many others are doing it and seem to be fine, I have no enjoyment trying to get a foot hold and not realy knowing anything at all and suddenly dealing with people who know everything. For Pete's sake, I have what looks liek 2 camps set up, I dunno how that happened, but I go to one of them, and nothign works, I cant get mail or orders or whatever, I dont know why it is even there, or when I decided to set it up why didnt my other one come down? Anyway I dont have hundreds of hours to figure this out, I just dont, between an anxiety disorder and ptsd I am ready to smash this stupid thing so for my peice of mind and health I think Im out. too bad too it seemed like it had potential,
-
SO much fun, except online, I have tried it several time, I dont get it, I only get angry by people doing stupid things, I dont even understand how to protect myself, so I wont be playing it again, but the Sp was awesome.

Thanks very much everyone, I really appreciate all the tips and advice. Born Homicidal, Thanks very much, Ill look you up when I go on or add you to my friends list, not really sure how that all works, but I can figure it out, and thank you for the time you took and your words, I appreciate it man, Thanks I didnt know about selling to the Dr so thats cool, I have a ton of orchids, and vanilla flowers. I will eventually team up I suppose, I am just not ready. Im level 7 lol I feel like a noob and a fool, I cant see Teaming up with guys at level 50 and above and be of any use to anyone. I tried one mission with others when I was trying to figure it out, I was in New Austin the first time and I forget I think it was a bounty we had to go get? I cant remember but the guys were looting everyone we killed, and I wanted to loot them as well, so I jumped of my horse to loot a couple guys and someone took the bounty off my horse and took off with it, lol and we were playing together, so right then I figured, I have no clue what I'm doing, or who to trust and who not too, I need to learn a lot more before I just put myself out there and be used as cannon fodder so to speak. Anyway you all have been great, thank you I appreciate it.

Yes, all passive and stackable., This is why if you get them all you are really maxing out your abilities and gun fights get oh so easy as the game goes on as a result.
-
LOL the Blackwater shooters never miss. Yeah if you dont go right after that particular mission in I think the end of chapter 3, and make sure at least one cop see's you as you leave the cemetery then for whatever reason, you can go and nobody will shoot at you as long as you dont break the law or do anything stupid, I just went looking for legendary animals and fish.

Its a good question, since you blow it late in chapter 6, I dunno if you will find any trains running until some time has passed, so Foxtrot is probably right on the money, Although, I will say, In this play through, my third, I never rode a train other than the story missions that made you, two or three I can remember, but on my own, I never bothered, I am saving the shooting stuff challenges for John to do later like the shooting 3 birds from a moving train, Ill do it in New Austin later on.
-
I believe its a man, you can shoot the floor under him and he will fall out of the tree, if you park a wagon there he will sometimes live through the experience, but he doesnt seem to do anything once you get him out of the tree.
-
Here in my third playthrough I made a point to read it all, I read it after chapter 2 started to see what Arthur had already written to get some backstory, and then along the way I check it every few days when the game tells me he wrote in it. This time, I made a point to use Arthur for as much as I possibly could so his journal would look good, John isnt the artist Arthur is.

My loooong winded complimentary rant about this game. If you have a life just skip it, I bought Far Cry 5 a week before I bought RDR2, I bought RDR after I finished RDR2 the second time, because I didnt want the story to end, I have other games I used to love and play daily, COD WW2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, etc.. After playing RDR2 three times now and having just started the online part, I just cant play my other games. Rockstar really got this right despite any shortcomings with online. I was stoked about Far Cry 5 for a long time, I only played Far Cry 2, never saw another so I figured 5 has to be great right? I loved 2 it was really fun. It looked good, I played it a few times, and then I played rdr2, now I just cant bring myself to turn it on, lol. This game is too good and I want to tell every other game maker, hey, you, step it up!! this is what we need, these physics, graphics, AI, etc.. you want to make a ww2 game, fine, make it like this, make a fictional sci fi game, great!! like this though!! lol These npc's and random encounters and stranger missions and side stories, holy cow!! this is it!! this is how I would to see games coming out work on. honestly Im shocked as the money seems to be in online games and I am not a big online player, other than COD ww2 I really do not play games online, too many hassles and headaches, cheaters, lag etc.. So to make a game this deep on the single player side I feel like it was made for me When I started playing video games it was in the early 1970's Zaxxon was an early 3d game at arcades and later on I think Colecovision maybe? I dunno we had it though, The Adam computer that ran on cassettes, lol, not even floppys yet. I loved it and I remembered thinking, I hope games keep getting better. Then later Goldeneye came out and blew me away, but then Quake 2 came out on pc and if you had a decent gamer, lol like a 400 mhz p2 or something you could play it at 99 fps at 1600x1200 and we were blown away!! That started about 8 years of building gaming pcs and over clocking them long before you could actually do it like today, we used graphite pencils and connected circuits on the chip itself to unlock multiplier's and open up the Front side bus, because if you did it right, you could take a pc game and crank the settings to the max and still get 60 fps, for a few years this was all I did. then came Half life, and counter strike, then HL2, and Crysis, and veitcong, eventually Call of Duty world at war. All of that led to Red Dead Redemption 2 and it was a wild ride. Now that we are here, I can say this is the apex of gaming in my lifetime, the smoothest running highly detailed game I have ever seen, I am very thankful people are so dedicated to this that I was able to witness the entire evolution from pong to RDR2. I'm old, but I'm a gamer, always have been, as an adult I either have had gaming pc's or the latest consoles on 70" 4k tvs, it just makes me smile and think about 10 year old me, and how awesome this is compared to the old black and white spare tv in the basement playing Atari games like pitfall and breakout. End Rant, RDR2 is amazing, the sp side of it is unparalleled. Even the online side for a Beta is great! and only goign to get better, it is simply amazing and after playing it for a few months it is easy to get desensitized to it and forget how awesome this game really is.

So, in some cases you have to look deeper, or sometimes you have to go back, after a day maybe it all depends. There are a few watches you can not pick up, so dont let that you make you think the game is busted, it is not, it is just the wrong watch. I think there is a watch in Francis Sinclairs place but you cant pick it up there either. I had to go to the Watson cabin 4 times to get an earing I needed for crafting. Also, pick up EVERYTHING and dont sell anything until you fill these requests, to make that easier look it up just to get the list of items, so that if you should happen to run into the item and havent been asked about it yet, you will have it on hand for the day they do ask. And that way the things you find that nobody will ask about you can sell. I had Dutches pipe from my first day in chapter 2 and he didnt ask me for one until the end of chapter 3, and every time I saw him smoking out front of his tent I made a bee line!! lol I got 11 or 12 camp requests but it wasn't easy and I missed at least two I had gotten before so it is hit or miss, but I think you only need 8 to get 100%. Getting 8 is easy, just talk to everyone at camp in the morning, around noon, again around 6 and then after 10, do this a few different days and do it at both Horseshoe over look as well as clemmens point and you will get 8 in those two chapters alone, I never got another after chapter 3. ( actually thinking about it, I was asked to get Oleander in chapter 4.) I could not get Jack to ask me about the thimble this time, he never did.

Ive seen some pretty crazy things. Spoiler, I am going to mention one example and it is from after the epilogue so......spoiler. When I went to St Denis as John to see Tilly, after she leaves I turned around and where her trolley was, there now was a row boat!! with a guy in it!!, in the middle of the street!! lol people all freaked out, I got in it with my horse, took a pic eventually and the law came so... This video below is a guy who all at once decided I was a threat and so he ran into traffic, implanted his head into the side of a trolley and then was basically all busted up while being dragged down the road smashing into fences, posts, other people, etc.. it was hilarious. See the video for that one, and if you have a funny moment, maybe this is a good thread for them? Post your funny moment. i have many but here is my first.

Yeah me too, I would park my horse behind the ranch or to the east a little, then walk up with dyno arrows and exploding shotgun rounds, and start off with arrows, then go to shotgun then end it at close range with pistols, call my horse, skin an ox, steal a horse, skin a cow and head to the trapper, on the way hope for a few more things, and then right after a cougar and grizzly north of the lake, then heading to Strawberry grab a couple beavers, I loved that whole sequence, I hunted that area so much I got my satchel upgraded in chapter 2 almost exclusively in that area, I only left for a panther. Once more recently I decided to hang around and I hunted the meadows while watching the law come in and clean it all up, they grabbed one body at a time, loaded them on their horse and rode off with them, I assume to Strawberry, not sure I didnt follow them, but three guys came and picked up dead guys, lol I thought that was really cool, they never saw anything and I left no survivors so they had no idea it was me they were looking for.
-
Ah lol I see where you are. The Murfree group your talking about, I waited outside the cave entrance and let them run out a few at a time, I used dead eye and made a huge pile of them, the others that wont run out I dealt with a few at a time in the same way, find a spot they will have to walk through, a narrow point or entrance, or find cover and as they come after you, just pick them off. I looted all of them outside after they stopped coming out and that time brought a few more closer to the entrance, so take your time. Like any good fight, you need to plan these out, hide at first, decide when and where to start the fight, etc.. If you just run into them, unexpectedly that is hard, and we all struggle when that happens.

Alright, that makes me feel better, maybe it wil show up soon. I can definitely use it. I have under $200 and desperately need a rifle to make hunting a lot easier and more profitable. Thanks, Ill check later to see if anything showed up, I was thinking something went wrong but if others have had a similar experience then I think it will be fine. -
have u encountered highlighted object that cannot be looted
lumper replied to leikoqin's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
Im thinking maybe it was in the back of a wagon in Southern New Austin, hmm I cant remember. -
Oh thats interesting, although Ive cleared that ranch several times with varying levels of success ive never noticed a bee hive.
-
Oh cool, I hadnt seen anything, which is why I asked, I figured someone must have seen this, pretty rare to find anything that others have not.
-
So, I was passing by and saw a mugging, I stepped in to stop it, and afterwards, as I was looting the body of the guy who had been robbing this couple, I found in an alley, in the dark, I could hit "inspect Mysterious writing" so I did. All he wrote in his journal was some scribbling's almost like animal characters. Here is a short video of John writing it his journal, has anyone else come upon this?

Kean_1 how long after? I set it up yesterday and then played for a few hours, I saw it tell me I had been gifted by Rockstar, but never saw anything show up, I havent logged in today yet, but as of last night when I logged off, nothing. -
Also, Jersey if you do decide to either start over from he beginning, or just reload old saves, in chapter 2 you are very limited at first, so there are a few things you definitely want to do first. Get the legendary buck trinket by hunting the lg buck, this will make pelts more likely perfect pelts as you progress. Also, upgrade your satchel in Chapter 2, all the way to the max, if you do this, you will be ready for anything. The bigger satchel, allows you 99 of each item, and well that really helps in a lot of ways later on. Also, go get the gold bars you know about ie crashed train cars or abandoned burnt buildings cough cough, without giving anything away. If you load up on cash and gold early on as well ad work toward the satchel, this will give you more than enough $$ and with that you can get either the Springfield or bolt action rifle and then add a scope, with this gun you can hunt anything larger than a raccoon or bird and expect perfect pelts from clean head shots, and the varmint rifle for everything else. If you go this route, you will have money, good weapons, fortified dead eye that you are versed in and plenty of experience so that when you need to fight you can. as others stated, avoid story missions as long as you can and do all the side missions, but before that load up on the satchel upgrade, camp upgrades and stuff like that to get your character all ready for action. Again god luck, lots of great advice on this thread for you to try.

I understand where the OP is coming from. Ive never played an open world game, this was my first experience with such a thing, and I guess if that is your thing, you have played others and seen the evolution of this genre then I can see where a person might say in a literal sense, this is not an open world game such as XYZ for example, in those open world games you can do ........ and in all open world games you expect .......... but in RDR2 you are somewhat limited. Whatever Genre it technically is in, I love it, as far as an interactive massive world, it is great, and as a player with no other experience in this type of game, I really enjoyed it very much, the graphics, physics, npc's Ai, and other things are so over the top fantastic compared to ANY game ive ever seen or played and it really is very rewarding and emotional to play, the vista's and sunsets the horse and all animal animations for example are awesome. But if you bought it so you could do the exact things that you can not do, like load animals in carts, then I can see being a little disappointed in that it wasnt what you expected and you feel a need to share that with others. Im not sure here is the best place for it, since in here are all fans, these people already have and love the game, well most anyway, but again, I get what you are saying. That aside, did you enjoy the game? Did you even play it all or did you bail when it wasnt what you expected? Either way, I hope this is the start of things to come, if this isnt an open world, I cant wait to experience one with this level of physics and graphics, and hopefully we will start seeing them more and more now. I have Far Cry 5 also, I havent played it much yet, I started to then I bought this and I havent touched any game since, I just cant, after playing RDR2 nothing else hits the spot for me. PS. I went to New Austin as Arthur, caught the legendary fish, and animals and saw a few sights too before I went back to craft my talismans and trinkets. I personally think, if we had given R* another year and $5 million dollars more, they would have just kept on grinding details and coming up with even more, but sadly business is very serious and they had to stop at some point, clearly it is the most advantageous attempt yet in my opinion.

I did recently find something else, a chest under a crate that highlighted but I wasn't able to get to it, similar to the one in the Van Horn welcome center / post office -

I set it up, got all set, and when I logged in, the game said Rockstar Gifted me an item, but I dont know what it is or where it is , I didnt have any extra $$ or gold. -
Well, best advice I can give you is slow down, go hunting, learn your weapons nuances and capabilities, this will develop stamina and dead eye, plus you will gain experience. The more you do thins, the more you earn xp points and gains in health, Stamina, and dead eye, the early dead eye sucks, I do not like it at all, but after a while you will get past that and then it gets really nice. Try doing some challenges, those also help you, if you are playing as John, you can buy the largest satchel, this will let you hold a lot more than previously and with that you can stock up on herbs, particularly thyme, mint, and oregano, as you can craft big game meat with those and they will fill your bars and cores, so you can fight and survive; The key to dead eye, is developing it as high as you can as you go along by doing a lot of hunting, and taking out Odriscolls where you find them. Practice, you can reload an old save and play some earlier missions of you want, or just go to the menu and replay any story mission in the game, problem is you get a standard limited load out when you do that so it is always better to use a save file. I would either start over, I played it three times all the way til the very end, and loved it every time, the third time was the best, I really got a lot out of it. Anyway if you dont want to do that, you can just work on hunting at first, then upgrade all your weapons at the gunsmith, longer barrels, rifling, etc.. practice and just have fun. Good luck with it.

As far as I know they have no value to us in game, you can not harvest them or sell them after or anything like that, if you shoot them they will break apart. I didnt mess with this one, if you walk up to it, the bee's will swarm you but you dont seem to lose health or stamina. I have only seen one myself in three play through's I id see a video of another one over by The Elysiam pool. Although they have no value and serve no purpose, they are seemingly pretty rare to encounter.
