  1. If you are still looking or others are looking, an easy 100% way to get an owl, is go to the large island off shore of Clemmens point, on the other side of the island is a crashed ship, on the tall mast at night is an owl, I think every night, I was able to get several owls all from this location whenever I needed one.
  2. So this was a little upsetting to me at first but.... I am all about the graphics, since 1975 I have dreamt of a day like today when we had a game this fun, this cool, with these type graphics and physics and AI, and here it is, I waited a long long time. I have seen every step of the way come and go, and I appreciated them all. So, when this game was coming out and I read about the native 4k graphics I made a choice, to sell my xbox one s, and buy an X, if that is the only way to see this and other games in native 4k at 30 to 60 fps then so be it. It was very exciting, like a second Xmas or something, I was very stoked for about a month after loading the game, it just blew me away literally and still does. I see exactly what they changed and part of me feels like, whoa wait a second, no no no, just add a setting, so if I am struggling with fps I can select to downgrade the occlusion lighting, but please dont mess with my settings otherwise, the game runs great on my end, I love it and have no problems so I do not want to "downgrade" anything at all. I am really glad I played the game 3 times before this happened. It seems like a small thing, and I guess in a way it is, but to me, it is part of the experience to see it in all its glory, and I went to a lot of trouble to upgrade my console so I could enjoy it. I really dont like having my copy downgraded, I think that was a mistake, and I really wish it had been optional in some way, BUT if that is how it has to be, the graphics are still ridiculous and awesome. It just hurts to have the choice removed without explanation. I always felt more transparency would be great, I want to hear from Rockstar when they make a decision like this and hear exactly why we ended up with this., I think in some cases it would help ease the pain of the decisions being made, if we heard their reasoning and why they made a decision, I think a little communication would go a long way. Id also love to hear from developers once a month updating things based on what people are saying online, like a press release where they answer popular myths, or misunderstandings, reasons for certain things, etc.. I think dedicating a person to public relations that could go back to developers with fan questions occasionally and then come back with the developers point of view would also go along way in smoothing out stuff that happens. I would think it would be interesting to hear their official take on things we encounter and bring here to the forums, of course, on the official site only, I cant see them fishing the net and discussing issues that pop up on every fan site, but it would be great to have a voice and an ear. I think in this case, a simple explanation would have been great, maybe they hoped we wouldnt even notice, and if so, I hope they learn from this and realize, with this many playing fans, we notice everything, so be transparent, not a parent, dont decide what you think we will say or how you think we will react, just be honest and talk to us, we are a nervous huge army of fans waiting with baited breath for the release of this game to see what stuck and what stunk, just a word here or there would go a long way in keeping their fans, still fans.
  3. I wanted to add that if you do this method and go into the store and just buy the packs, discard them as soon as you have 99 in your satchel, keep doing this until you have all 144 unique cards, what will inevitably happen is you will have extra's, multiples, and they sell for $2 each if memory serves, so just head to the fence with them and cash out as soon as you have the collected sets all mailed. This was a nice little payday, along with Algernon Wasps, payment for the final list, and one other thing, I forget, my mail was stuffed with rewards, it was crazy how many $100.00 there were in there plus other things. So dont fear buying cards and remember if you are out scouting and it says you can not pick up another pack of premium cigs, just open satchel, discard all and keep going, you wont lose any cards doing this, as soon as you buy the cigs you get the cards and they are separated and long after you mail all the sets in, you can still collect cards you find in world and ten sell them for cash so, keep your eye out, pick up everything the game lets you, a safe bet is just pick up everything, always.
  4. I just went to the yellow icons on screen, you have to go the sneaky way, and then after you cross the river stay very close to it on the cliff, you will soon come upon the guys and the mission will get started, its a fun one. In the meantime, do any stranger missions, and hunting you can, get the buck antler trinket, work on your satchel, go get some gold, upgrade your camp, etc.. so that as soo n as you start chapter 3, you have the max satchel, that holds 99 items each, this makes the rest of the game much smoother.
  5. It will spawn as John, I wish I had known this when I was playing my 3rd play through, I would have definitely saved this for John, although Hamish was a good friend for Arthur, but it happens so late that it is more tragic than healthy I think. I saw a video where a person played this as John, so I know you can do it then you will have Buell for the remainder of the game.
  6. Thats nothing, I was 50 feet from the butcher in Blackwater with a full load, horse was over loaded, and all perfect pelts and turkeys., I found a group of 6 and two of them were 3 star, plus gator pelt, several deer, boar, badgers, coons, etc.. Some dude comes flying down the road, way too fast, swerves into me, and my horse, we drop everything, I get up from the ground, grab the first big pelt to load it back on my horse and a bullet zings by, I look and now this guy is running at me, shooting, I looked at the butcher and thought, hmm wonder if I can make it, I jumped into a sprint, and took one step and bang!! head shot, dead, all my loot gone, I re-spawned over by Ft riggs, my horse was still in blackwater and so were all my pelts, I ended up having to quit and re-join. Lost all my pets, carcasses etc..

I checked, Ive only got 2 days 19 hours in game, and I caught 1,270 fish, feels like more honestly.
  8. The hostility system I think it will serve a purpose so you can have all types of play whenever you want without others dictating how you get to enjoy the game. If I am going to join a pvp session or mission of any kind I will obviously be in offensive mode, but whenever I am not joining to fight in a mission, I will be in in defensive this way I can hunt, fish, travel to the butcher, or just explore in peace. In this game, it is a 5 state map, were all neighbors, there are tons of killing opportunities out there so why not be civil in those in between times? You meet a lot of cool people. Otherwise it dulls down the experience to a death match style game like Call of Duty, which I love, but I dont need RDR2O to be like that, those games already exist, and we have game modes to play that way if we want. Here we have a unique opportunity to co-exist in a game, have each others backs, yet engage in fighting, killing, thieving, etc,,, without taking cheap shots against other players in free roam. When I see another player in game, I never think. oh cool, I am gonna blast this poor fool. rather I am thinking, I wonder what they are doing, and how they are playing right now, then I think I hope their friendly, then I run the other way, and that sucks. So for me, I would like to have it both ways, defensive at times, like free roaming, and offensive other times, like being on call for events, or to be an assassins target, letting everyone know, its cool if you want to fight, bring it!!\ But not when I am walking to the butcher or fishing.
  9. 1 and 2, I do wish we had a private server at times, or at least a passive option so people cant just shoot you in the face at the butcher for no reason. I like hunting, fishing, exploring and doing the story and stranger missions. I do like when others try to intercept my missions, I have no problem with that and people who give you a GG after you assassinate them, I love that. I think Rockstar adding daily challenges that include killing players before there is a passive/hostile option is a mistake and promoting foul play and a lot of misunderstandings and is in part causing problems. Most disliked encounter that seems to keep happening, having someone riding way too fast toward me, nervously trying to predict where to go and end up smashing into me, knocking my pelts off my horse, then shooting me because they are mad at crashing into me, really makes me not want to bother, after an hour or hunting all perfect pelts then loosing all of them 5 feet from the butcher really sucks.,
  10. Obviously as fans of the game, passionate as we are, hearing about cut content, and other things that "might have been" can be vexing. But it is their story to tell, and if they felt that Arthur dying would make the better story then so be it, I do think that it really was the right way to go, look at hoe passionate folks are about the game and Arthur. True story, my wife who does not play video games at all ever, cried when Arthur died, she is very attached to him as a character and she really loves this game, despite not being a gamer, she loves the story and the emotion. If Arthur lives you lose a lot of that. AND, it is their game, so we should be thankful for what we got, and trust that they know what they are doing.
  11. LOL. I learned this myself and you know all my machines after that had copper syncs I never went to liquid cooling, but I had some extreme air machines. I did fry a power supply one night, it puffed a thick cloud of white smoke, the smoke smelled just like crack if you have ever had the mis-pleasure of smelling what crack smells like, it was a room full of smoke that to me smelled like a crack bong had just been hit, lol it was awful. I have done the "pencil trick" unlocked multipliers, fsb's voltage regulators, etc.. it was a lot of fun, but too expensive these days, if I had the budget I would build one just for the pc release of this game, but, alas, I do not so....
  12. I have no idea whether a person is male or female and you cant go by their avatar or character either, many guys use female avatars and visa versa so... Unless we are talking and they tell me they are a female, I would otherwise never know or care honestly, I love it that some ladies like to game, I find it very appealing, my wife and daughters arent big on gaming, my youngest does play a little mostly lego games, ( I say my youngest, she is nearly 30, lol) So I dunno, it makes no difference to me whatsoever your age, sex race, creed, as long as we share the enjoyment of the game, its all good to me.
  13. I enjoy a wide range of music from oldies to pop to rock and roll to hard rock, etc... My favorite bands were Van Halen before 1984, Led Zep, Ozzy, Sabbath, but I also grew up with oldies Elvis and Sadaka, the O'jays, I am a drummer and I also play guitar, write music and lyrics and I have a couple of bands. My current band Pyramis is a hard rock all original band that plays all over the US, I have written al the words and music to about 35 songs. We play around 20 of those at performances. I no longer listen to the radio or music unless I am somewhere that it is on and I have no control, I love music, I just never listen to it, I have it on in my head all the time and I find radios distracting, I have a lifetime to Sirius and use it for comedy and Stern. I dont listen as I dont want to copy what others have done, and when I am writing it helps to not know what is out, if that makes any sense.
  14. My wife was born in Knob Noster Missouri, I used to have a shirt that said, where the heck is Knob Noster? We are from Connecticut on the east coast of the U.S., Southern New England.
  15. From our interactions on these boards over the past 6 weeks I knew we were very similar. I am 50, also gaming since Pong, in around 1975, had all the consoles including the Adam pc that ran on cassettes, lol not even a floppy yet, had a game on there that was 3d, I cant remember if it was sky fox or Zaxxon, but it was amazing for the day. We played breakout and hockey lol on the old Pong system. I used to build gaming pcs to play Quake 2 back when the Intel p2 was the big game in town, I built AMD machines back then that could smoke any p2 out there, anyway, kindred spirits man. I went from consoles to pc just after Goldeneye came out, and quake 2 was out, my buddy had a decent graphics card and showed me people playing Q2 "Lithium" online and I was instantly hooked, that and Weapons of destruction or WOD as it was called, my favorite. I went on to Toms Hardware site and read "what is a platform" that article changed my life, I went from knowing nothing about pcs to assembling them from scratch with components I knew would open up the Front side bus and allow throughput like I had never seen before, and it worked. I was able to play Quake 2 at 1200x1600 at 99 fps and it was smooth as butta and my buddy was green with envy, then I built him a machine. I went that weekend and bought a motherboard, and all the fixin's and built myself a gaming machine and never looked back, until the Xbox one came along, then I decided that the games have come so far now, that for $450 I can get nearly the same quality as I can with my $2500 pc's, so I retired my gaming pcs and bought the xbox one x and I havent looked back. Anyway I had a feeling that we had similar interests and were around the same age just from your posts and demeanor,
  16. I never liked Westerns as a rule for most of my life. now that I am a little older over the past 3 or 4 years I have really started to appreciate older films and shows and that led me to several Westerns. Here where I live on tv we have several from the 1950's and 60's that air daily. I started watching them and found 3 or 4 I really love. Laramie, Maverick, Cheyenne, Wanted dead or alive, Tales of Wells Fargo, etc.. Dale Robertson as Jim Hardy is one of my favorites, the character is great and has a comedic quality yet a wholesome quality too. Totally by coincidence while checking out older movies from the big 4, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, and Gary Copper, (also Audie Murphy and a handful of character actors like George Kennedy, and a few others that seem to have been in every Western and war movie ever made from 1946 to 1975, once you see them, you seem to see them everywhere.) Anyway, while checking out these older films that are really great, especially Alfred Hitchcock movies, but that led me to some Westerns and then to some of these shows I mentioned. I have come to really love these shows, I use the dvr to record them daily and watch them at night, when you are getting ready to play rdr2 online, watching an episode of Tales of Wells Fargo or Maverick really puts ya in the mood, especially the horses. Does anyone else ever watch the Westerns? Some are really great, especially the movies.
  17. Put a scope on every gun that will let you, very helpful. Slippery bastard huh? I never heard of it, im at level 21 so I have lots to learn, but this sounds rough. Level 97 for explosive ammo? ugg I really wish they would allow us to buy anything that is level locked with gold anytime we wanted, so if you have the gold you can obtain said item early on, I need 75 levels to get that pamphlet, that seems crazy to me.

    Lures

Well, I dont know if it is a trick, But here is what I do. arm the fishing pole, look for the bubbles from the fish, use eagle eye to see what im dealing with, ie: bass, trout, or smaller fishes. Once I see what im fishing for I cast out to the fish and try to put my bait/lure right in their path, and move it around a litle, often I tip my pole toward the water, slacking up the line, and while the tip is lowered I flick the R trigger to snap the line, (Might be a different button on ps4) Here is the part that matters, Once the fish has struck, I set the hook and DO NOT REEL. Just let the initial fighting happen and as soon as the fish settles down, start reeling while snapping the left thumb stick from up to down, repeatedly, this will pull the fish in closer to you, after you do this a few times you get a rhythm. Once the fish begins fighting while you are reeling/pulling, STOP REELING. Do not try to reel in a fighting fish unless it is one of the smaller fish, ie: rock bass, blue gil, red fin pickerel, chain pickerel, bull head, etc.. Any mid or large sized fish has the ability to snap your line and take your lure if you reel while they are fighting, so it is very important to stop reeling when the fish begins to fight. Repeat until you land the fish. When fishing with bait and catching those smaller species I mentioned, you do not have to observe this, just set hook, and reel in until you have them, it is very fast, these fish only pay around 1$ each but they land very very quickly, so if you are in an area with a lot of bass or steelheads but mixed in are the smaller fish too, after you get your 10 of large mouth, small mouth, steelhead, or sockeye, then put on bread bait and go ahead and clean out all those smaller fish too, it only takes a few minutes and 10 add up to 10 to 15$ depending on species. So you can actually go to butcher with not only your bass and trout, but all those others I mentioned too and if you do it each time, that extra 30$ adds up, IMO. As long as you are patient when reeling you wont ever lose a lure. I did lose 3 or 4 early on learning this so.... take my advice, never reel in a fighting fish. Oh and the larger ones, like Northern pike, Lake Sturgeon, long nose gar, etc.. same deal but they take a lot longer so just be patient, and use your left thumbstick more than anything when reeling in larger fish. Doing this I have landed thousands of fish, or at least it seems like thousands. Also, side note, last night I took a cart from an npc, rode it to the Dakota River and caught and landed 6 northern pike and brought them all the the butcher!! That was amazing, sadly it only worked once, as the second time I tried I only found 2 and the third time I tried I only found 1, but it did work, I took the cart all the way to Shady Belle from Valentine and figured I would load it up with gator pelts, and long nose Gar. Before I could get there, I stopped at Flat Iron Lake, and caught 4 Lake Sturgeon, and was able to deliver those to the Rhodes butcher, so you can use a cart and load up more than one of the larger items you cant normally carry, like gator pelts, big fish, etc.. Trick is to park the cart on a hill or next to a rock or something that you can easily walk into the back to "drop" your load each time and not to walk too far away from the cart, if you do, it will disappear on you. Anyway that is my advice for fishing. Good luck, and remember you can catch any fish without a lure it just takes longer because every other fish will also be biting but you can not catch small fish with a lure.

    No camp?

Thanks for the replies, is helps. I was able to spawn in and try again, and this time it worked, made a camp for me. I did everything the same way I have always done, and it finally worked, I think that whole session I was in was a little "off" Oh well, glad it eventually worked out. I have to keep remembering it is a beta.
  20. SO what is the glitch, what are they doing? I have seen a weird thing, sometimes when fishing I stand in the water a little, and I noticed that when I am done sometimes, several fish swam to the shore and just died there and I can walk along and pick them up, usually 2 or 3 max, once I saw 4. I dont know why it happens and it is only once in a while, but it is free fish for some reason, and most likely a glitch of sorts, I mean your not getting rich looking for dead fish, but still it seems like an exploit. I definitely would not try to exploit any glitch as R* seems on the ball like that and they have penalized folks in the past, so......

    Lures

I have done a LOT of fishing, a ridiculous amount for how new I am to online, and I have lost 3 lures. Just being impatient, I got used to reeling even when they were struggling near shore, and I landed several but I pushed it too far and lost my only lure at one point, I was so mad, I had to fish with bait and deal with all the smaller fish, it was cool to have 10 of each and have 9 different species, its a lot of fish, But Rockstar gifted me a fishing kit a few days later and I got three lures, then I managed to lose the lake lure on a lake sturgeon immediately, so now I am very patient and I am very close to the level I wan to be at that I can put the pole down and just play the game for a while very soon. Also interesting note, you can fish with any lure in any body of water and they work just fine, ie: lake lure in the swamp, or river works perfectly fine.
  22. After getting to know this Red Arabian, I kind of like him, he is dumb as a rock, and does run into stuff, and sometimes get stuck between a few stones on the ground and I literally yell at my tv to MOVE!!! lol but otherwise, he is loyal, always comes running even in the swamp, even when he decides to take off, I can bring him right back with a whistle and he is fast as ever, I may not even buy another horse, I l have to see how it goes. With money this hard to come by, I cant see spending any money on things I definitely do not have to have. I definitely want dynamite arrows, and explosive rounds, etc.cc I am sure pamphlets are expensive, so after I get my off hand holster and buy two volcanic pistols the only other things I will spend money on are ability card upgrades and pamphlets unless I discover something else I need or I finally get to a point where I have everything I want and extra money to burn, then maybe I would go for horses, other clothes, better camp, etc.. but at this point, at level 20, it seems a lifetime away.
  23. That would be great, let's hope. I am just going to wait and see. I know level 20 seems like no big deal, but I play alone, so getting here has been insanely boring, being that I did most of fishing/hunting. I now have decent weapons for hunting, and fighting and plenty of lures, bait, etc.. The idea of starting over at level 1 just to lose 30 lbs isnt worth it to me. My goal is to get to level 25, add the off hand holster, and carry two side arms, then play the story missions, side missions, stranger missions and just try everything the game has to offer, Ive tried a few missions and stuff but I wasnt ready with ability cards, guns, or experience frankly. I am just about comfortable enough with my guy's set up to start fighting and shooting, learning more about how to dive, use cover, flick for head shots, etc.. I have a ton to learn, but I decided early on that I would do so with adequate weapons, and I would just avoid all that stuff until I have what I need to feel comfortable.

    No camp?

Thanks for the reply Dissention. I did try it both that way and within the weapons/item wheel, and neither worked. I will fire it up in a few minutes and see if maybe I didnt hold down the purchase button, that is the only thing I can think of, BUT I have set up camps many many times, even within one session, and I have never had a problem before so it is hard for mt to imagine that I did it wrong, but meh, ya never know and it is worth looking at to make sure. Hopefully it is my error, I really miss my camp.
  25. So today I joined free roam as I usually do, and noticed I had no camp, so I thought, ok, Ill just set one up. I went through the menu and did the normal thing, but nothing happened. then I decided to get off my horse and use the weapon wheel to set one up, again nothing. I have tried several times in several locations, I can not make camp. Any ideas why?
