I don't understand why anyone would skip the opportunity to loot. If I could loot trees, I would! I like to collect as much as I can from everything. If I have no use for it, i can just turn around and sell it.

I skip looting, depending on when and where i am.  You get bounties for looting innocents if there are witnesses.  Out in the wild i loot everyone and kill the witnesses, can't do that so easily in town, just makes more witness and more crimes you commit and higher bounties.

A tip from me is to find the trapper as soon as you can. This will unlock the challenges earlier so that you can work on them while you’re doing other stuff. Since some of the challenges are easy, this will help your stats (and equipment)

didn't think the challenges were locked?  did i miss something?

As soon as you unlock the Fence in chapter 2 begin robbing trains! There is a spot in the North Grizzles where you can rob the train and not get any bounty. You'll average about $500 in cash per robbery so you can set yourself up with enough cash for the rest of the game pretty quickly.

go to the tracks just above the O in AMBARINO, and wait for a train.

ride along the coal car and jump on, replace the engine driver and drive entire train into the tunnel

dispatch guards and rob all the passengers, then go back through the train killing each passenger and looting them, yes they were holding out on you.....

Dynamite the 2 safes in each mail car and take the cash, this will alert the law so now its time to bounce. Oh, and hopefully you whistled for your horse when you jumped on the train .

Ride out of the tunnel and head away from any lawmen in the area, you should be bounty free, go to the fence and sell all the valuables.

I racked up $15 K in a few hours of rinse repeat, oh and navigating the train in the dark is much easier if you get the Miners hat before your 1st robbery

You don't need to, they follow automagically and will even run off the edge of a cliff trying to stay with the train....

True if you buy a ticket, but they won't follow you into the tunnel unless you whistle, and whistling for your horse is unavailable in tunnels.

Nope, they'll follow you anytime you board a train.  ticket or jumping on the cars.  I've never whistled for the horse to follow and it always has.  Just don't jump on a train at Baccus Station, the horse will follow you and run right off the cliff to the west of the station.  had that happen way back when I was in chapter 2 after getting the legendary Arabian, then i did it again just before the epilogue.  Figured she wanted to go there once, might as well finish her off that way again :)

I forgot about the tunnel, you're right, i only went in there once a while back, i remember having to run out to get the horse.

I do this when attacking a gang camp.  It doesn't usually dink my honor and yields surprisingly good loot.

The first target when attacking is always their horses.  Two, sometimes even four saddle bags (if you can get the 2 returning gang members who ride up after attack is ended) extra loot.  Many times those bags contain a gold nugget.  Arthur even makes some funny comments about shooting them.

Thanks to all the earlier tips.  Good hunting all.

Peace.

A couple of tips here.

The map lets you place your own markers by pressing one of the thumb sticks. This is great for when you notice something on the way to something else and you want to remember that the location for later on. Great for when you spot a gang hideout but don’t have time to deal with it right away.

Herbs/plants don’t seem to respawn as quickly as animals, so when you pick plants, it can be a long time before they appear again in the same place. So, only pick plants that you actually need so you have more for later on.

Buy oatcakes and hay for your horse. If you don’t have suitable food, feeding the horse may result in them being given herbs that might be better used in crafting.

Aim to get the Satchel of the East when you can (Chapter three seems optimal), this gives you an almost unlimited inventory space and comes in very useful.

The whole thing can be a little overwhelming. Almost like finding something to watch on Netflix. There's so much to do you don't know what to do....

I'd recommend googling "things to do first in RDR2". There are some good tips there.

There are a few things it seems like you should be doing but are unable to early on, I kinda get frustrated like I'm missing something.

Love your icon man.  Cowboy Homer  😉

No it does not. Witnesses will not recognize you when you wear the bandana

not true.  if you don't change your outfit or horse and commit crimes in the same area more than a few times, witnesses willI recognize you with a bandanna or a mask on.  Rockstar made them somewhat intelligent to look at your clothing, horse, and face.

The best advice I can give after playing the game 3 times.

In Chapter 2,

Get a scope on whatever rifle you have

get the Buck Antler trinket early on

Get your satchel upgraded as fast as you can, you can do this in chapter 2

Get your camp loaded with everything it needs and tons of food,

To do that fast, grab whatever gold is easiest to get early,

Dont rush the story missions, do one, or two, then avoid them, do companion missions, stranger missions, challenges, do anything you can to avoid the next story mission, like stocking up on big game meat, creeping thyme and mint, oregano, gators are big game meat and just sit there, so the swamp is your friend early on to stock up very fast.

Pick everything you come across, grab everything gator eggs, bird plumes, orchids, and save them, if you upgraded your satchel you can load up 99 of most things, so ust grab everything you encounter, all the time.

Loot every body you can

Following just these items, I made nearly $20,000.00 with high honor, all dino bones, exotic requests, camp requests, stranger missions, rock carvings, dream catchers, cigarette cards, legendary fish, legendary animals, etc..

When you move around to different areas, really explore them, do the side stuff, get the legendary animals, and fish, and carvings, etc.. in each area, some aras you will go to early on your own like the swamp and St denis

Owijilla lake area and north of there is awesome for hunting, and you can do 90% of your satchel upgrade hunting right there.

Yes, you can do this one.  This is the "The First Shall be the Last" mission.  Go to the marker on the map, it will be safe to go there and do the mission without being killed.  Just follow the route there and don't go anywhere else in the red zone.

Done! Thanks man!

Howdy strangers,

I've been trying to get the symbol of the American Robin on my map in RDR2's story mode. It is purely an optical issue to me, IMO these drawings look awesome.

What exactly is triggering those drawings? The skinning, scanning, or killing of the animal in a certain area? Does anybody have a clue?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Etgar and welcome to the forums.

I noticed that you have a duplicate post in another thread.  We ask that you please don't double post like this.  Most questions receive a response around here so you simply need to be patient. I'm going to delete your post here and let the other stand.  I appreciate your cooperation and again, welcome.

I also just saw that you sent me a PM.  I'll check on that and get back to you.

It’s story related. The way that dead eye works changes as you progress through the story missions, gaining you added features and abilities. It’s not something you can reset or change I’m afraid.

I just got to chapter 3 and have the dead eye that let's you mark the red x's on targets. I can't seem to rapid fire my shots after marking them.  I've pushed right trigger (on Xbox) and they don't all fire. Any tips?

What weapon are you using?  Thrown weapons will only target the first x when you hit the right trigger.

I was using a pistol. I did get it to work right last night finally. Thanks though.

I'm currently using the provisions satchel and it's pretty filled up with cooked meat (10 of many types). If I switch to a different satchel like ingredients, do I lose meat when it goes from 10 spaces back down to 5?

I suspect so, but with the wide variety of cooked meats you can have, starvation isn't really an issue.  Even if you have no meat on you, it's pretty easy to kill something and cook it when needed.

Thanks, and good point. I'm hoping to have the Legends of the East soon, but those panthers... had me by the back of the neck before I even saw them three times. I was walking through the woods at night in the fog, and even taking 5 steps and checking all around me with eagle eye, they still snuck up. Scared the crap out of me every time.

Yeah, I remember those times.  Especially waiting for ages only to find a sub-standard animal and having to start over.

But yes, I got pounced on and eaten plenty of times before I finally got a perfect panther pelt.

---------------------

The absolutely most important key to play this game is to upgrade your satchel into "legend of the east" witch gives you

a storagecapacity of max 99 of each item. An absolute must. You are nothing but a noob without this satchel.

To get this done you will need to 1) go hunting with Hosea, he will give you the legendary animal map. Kill the legendary buck north of Owanija dam to get the pelt-thrinkle from the fence. 2) Do the first mission for Mr Strauss to get the camps legder activated. Buy leather-tools  for Mr first, go all-inn for the satchel! (later; get fast-travel. A game-opener!)

Go to Valentine early and look for a hanging. The sheriff (not his deputy) will wear a bolt-action rifle*. Headshoot him

on his way back and snap the rifle, it`s worth it. You can get a free Lancaster repetear by "robbing" the gunshop in

Rhodes and a semi-automatic shotgun from an old lady up north in Big Walley. You will need a varmit-rifle with a scop for

hunting small animals.

Good horses can be found, but if you allready have the money buy the Dutch Warmblood for $450,-  A bit stiff price

but this horse is solid, acting like a war-horse meaning it will not be scared easily, fast enough & good stamina.

Money; small cabin behind Shady Belle, lockbox gives $70,- and fills up every "day" + cabin near Moonstone Pond gives

$50,-  (large jevel bag)

* you can also pick up one of these in the mission were you go near Blackwater to free Sean. Google it! My fav gun in the game,

and notice how it improves after a few hundred shots. A maxed bolt-action with a semi-shotgun for backup in close-range

combat is a strong combimation.

Allways save the game before any challenge. Allways. Your horse might be killed, pelts might dissapear..
