One thing I can say with certainty is that if RDO's online component doesn't see some serious improvement before March, I'll gladly waltz over to TD2 with no qualms about leaving RDO behind.  I didn't pay for RDR2 to play the story and move on--it's literally half the game.  The online in it's current iteration (yes, I know it's a beta) is an incongruent, broken mess.

TD was like that for it's first year, but I'd be willing to bet that the beta for TD2 is MILES above where the RDO beta is now.

Well IMHO, if you already played The Division, you already played The Division 2's Beta for 3 years.

What if you kill a player, you spawn on the map for say 10 seconds.  That way Trolls will be lit up like a Christmas Tree all day long.   Put a bounty on them where they get shot at by NPCs as well as PCs.  Trolls don't like it when they can be seen and everyone is against them.

Sounds good to me although I'd say leave them lit up for a few minutes .   .....or maybe within a certain perimeter from where the offense occurred forcing them to leave the area or prepare to defend themselves.  With the bounty you mentioned of course.

What about allowing one posse to play the part of marshalls that can perhaps spawn in to the region where an offense takes place?  ....but knowing trolls, they'll likely infiltrate that mechanic and it would backfire.

Apparently, I used up all of my likes for the day.  I don't have a problem that if they allowed players with a high enough honor  in the honor system to be Marshalls.

Oh, players like me would find away to circumvent the system.  That's my specialty.

Not that I'd troll people with it, mind you, but I excel at that sort of thing--finding vulnerabilities and exploits.  Hell, you could probably max you honor in ten minutes of riding around a town and saying "howdy" to everyone.

I have no doubts, but I am sure that their honor system could be tweaked to accomodate it.

Had a run in with a griefer tonight. I actually really enjoyed it though.

Picture it, Heartlands, 1899... I was minding my own business, casually throwing knives at swarms of fish in a low spot on the river, watching them turn belly up and float to the surface for easy retrieval of knives and fish. when a Rank 4 shows up along the riverbank. I act neighbourly and wave, but I'm feeling cautious just the same. He waves back, a little too eagerly. Somethings up. Suddenly he crouches. I start to walk away slowly with my camera view focused on him as he pulls out his lasso. OK, it's ON.

I let him take the first move, he lassoes me. I break free just before he can seal the hogtie. He's whistled for his horse. I stand up and give him a taste of my pump action shotgun, nice and close-like. He immediately spawns back in and rides full bore toward me, firing from horseback with his Carbine Repeater. I take aim with my shotgun and fire - hitting his horse in the face. Horse goes down, critically injured. I switch attention to him as he's trying to collect himself and spoonfeed him some more lead. I do what any good cowgirl would do - I finish his horse and release it from it's suffering.

I don't feel much like showing off my "E-peen", as I'd rather this clown move on and lick his wounds elsewhere. I jog over to my nearby camp, as he's chasing me on horseback, shooting wildly and missing (for the most part). I emote "up yours" as he tries and fails to shoot me, and I laugh as his bullets phase through me. He tries his lasso again, but it too phases through. I emote "shoot-em up" for extra burn. I have a seat at my table and casually browse menus, the map, even leaving my bedroom to retrieve my phone to message him easier while still keeping an eye on him. "Wish we could play cards..." I say, implying my comfort at outwaiting him. He never replied, but he stayed seated across from me for 10 minutes (real time). I stood up and "flee'd" to his horse. He finally stood up and found a new world to harass.

I scout the map to be sure he didn't send word to any friends, looks clear. I start walking back down to the river to "fish" when suddenly my entire minimap gets a red halo. I hear shouting and red dots encircle me. They caught me off guard but it appears like a band of NPC bandits, or maybe bounty hunters, since I killed that griefer twice. I take out a few, but they put me down twice before I finished them off. I probably killed about a dozen of them in total. The last kill was satisfying as I fired my repeater into the last enemies belly - he stumbled behind a tree, and I met him with my hunting knife, by way of tackling him and "execution" by a vicious throat slash. All the rest of the bodies disappeared due to the limited distance, so I only got to loot the last 3 bodies I killed down at the river. I got disconnected soon after.

😈

If somebody pulls out a lasso next to you, you DONT WAIT for them to make the first move - they already made the first move.... DONT Be a victim.

PvP is not about sportsmanship, the only thing that matters is the all mighty KILLBOARD.

They will kill you any which way they can, hook or crook. One more notch in the handle is all that matters.

Back 20 years ago or so, the PvP world was really chivalrous, now dog eat dog.

Its not the game, its the young players.

I came from 15 years of WWII fighter sims. When pilots did dishonorable things they were publicly shamed.

Then WoW came and the killboard became god. As far as I can see, nothing has changed.

I'm still tempted to start a name and shame thread.  We name trolls, and then if people see those names online they can either avoid them or vengeance kill them as desired.

Of course, I would only pay attention to names posted by folk on here who I trust not to be lying.

Anyone else think that a good idea?

Players need to be careful what the ask for, because somethings can be used against players.

Players like me for example, never shoot 1st unless i have a reason.

Last night, i was in Strawberry, looting the hotel.   3 guys in a posse roll up with guns drawn and run inside so i blast them all.

The game would consider me the 'troll'...

We need private lobbies...  We need Free Aim lobbies.. And we need a friendly free roam lobby.  Nothing more then that.

1st you claim you never shoot 1st , then you did.  It happens and I know some players will find a way to abuse it.  For right now, holding players to a certain standard would, trolls should be marked as trolls.

I would appreciate  separate server for PvE, but right now we don't have that.  We are lumped into one, so there is no safety net for those just farming if you will.  PvP players have access to PvP modes, yet feel a need to troll.

So when 3 players ride full speed to my exact location with guns out..    I have a reason.

The game should not punish players for defending themselves.

As Grand Moff Tarkin would describe it, a "preemptive retaliatory strike."

I highly recommend PS4 players group up because in my experience, it's troll-ville.  I've been offline for a few weeks because I'm focusing on story mode and challenges, but at some point, I'll sit down, redo my character for the fifth or sixth time, and finally start investing time in the online.

Absolutely.  I find myself using 1st person mode a LOT when encountering other players.  It helps my aim considerably.

I have done the same and I agree.

We had a couple players try to act friendly last night only to try and kill us after.  One joined our posses.  We all laughed because no one knew him (posse setting was mistakenly public I guess).  He followed us around but tried to shoot one of my team members (FF wasn't on).  The leader made it private and then kicked him as we were riding away.  He took offense, started shooting at me so I killed him.  .....twice.  .....along with his horse.

So yeah, I tend to get on the offensive when someone is acting squirrely but I don't always wait for them to fire first.  IME, someone who I shoot first was either really dumb for doing what they were doing around me and/or directly threatening myself or my posse.

If you need someone to tag along when you do, hit me up.  Surprisingly enough, the trolling hasn't been that bad in most sessions I'm in lately.  It's much better with a team though.  .....even with just two people it makes a big difference.

I think at the moment people are looking at quick fixes to trolling, but in more of knee jerk reaction type of fix.  And not thinking it all the way through.

I've seen a TON of bad ideas.. Some even getting floated around by popular gaming websites/youtube channels.

All of which, when i read what they ask for. I can easily flip it around and use it against players.

Kind of like Insurance in GTA O.   Insurance/bad sport was added to punish players who destroy your vehicles.  Problem was, players would simply jump in vehicles and use it to troll/attack players.   And when players being attacked defends themselves and destroys the vehicle, they had to pay money and get bad sports points.

I'd be happy with private sessions but if I'm going to be honest (at least for now) trolling isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
