Have not seen an owl the whole time I've been playing, now I need owl feathers for a challenge.  Googled locations and that was pretty pointless.

Anyone have a good owl hunting spot?

I don't know any locations but I have seen them in the evening and night hours. You'll see them in the sky, I've not see any one the ground but you can hear them, they have a screech sound, then you'll see their contours in the air. I used a varmint rifle to shoot one and got the feathers from it, they're actually pretty large birds/animals once you have them on the ground.

Go to Riggs station at night, pretty common find if you leave a few carcasses around. Riggs station is surprisingly one of the better hunting locations in the game, you can get badgers, skunks, opossums, foxes, wolves, deer, hawks and of course the owl. Travelling just down the path toward the river then back up usually forces fresh spawns too.

I've encountered one. It appeared at night, on top of a house in the woods. I think I saw it fly in and land. Noticed it due to how big it was. I think this was by

the houses west of Rhodes, on the west side of the train tracks.

I was able to kill it. And I think I got some feathers from it. This has only happened once for me.

Figures just cause i need one now I can't find them.  Same thing happened with the perfect Robin carcass  lol, i shot a few along the river, then when i needed on it took hours to finally find one.

I got a bunch of hawk and eagle feathers near Riggs at night, i'll keep trying there and see if i can get one to turn up.

If you are still looking or others  are looking, an easy 100% way to get an owl, is go to the large island off shore of Clemmens point, on the other side of the island is a crashed ship, on the tall mast at night is an owl, I think every night, I was able to get several owls all from this location whenever I needed one.

What do y'all suggest for areas for small birds? I found a hunting challenge poster on the wall at a post office, did the first challenge (1 perfect rabbit carcass and 1 perfect squirrel carcass, then you have to mail them). That opened up the 2nd challenge which is 3 small birds, sparrow, oriole, robin.

Any tips on finding them, spotting them or decent locations? I see some from time to time but normally when I'm running on my horse I see them flying off in the distance.

So, i loved this game but ultimately lost enjoyment and couldn't finish it due to the atrocious wanted system. Mainly the complete absence of stand your ground.

I.E. Random guy talks crap to me on the street. I talk crap back. He pulls out a gun and starts shooting me. I pull out a gun and shoot him in the head. Now I'm wanted for defending myself (sheriffs saw the whole thing go down and still started shooting me).

It's totally immersion breaking. I really don't think  anybody in those times would have batted an eyelash if someone starts trying to murder you in the middle of the street and you defend yourself with lethal force.

If this was ever resolved I'm going to try returning to it... otherwise... yikes..

Funny you should reply just now, I was just in Scarlett Meadows or whatever, the old battlefield near Braithwaie? and in the moddle of the battle filed was a dead tree with a Horned owl on it.

First play through when i made this post i finally got my owl sitting between the antlers on top of the sign you go under when entering Strawberry from the Valentine side, only owl I saw that whole play through i think.

I'll check that battlefield also :)

I often find them flying overhead along the coast north of Saint Denis. That's where I shot one down last night to complete that daily challenge for online.

Thanks!  i'll check there also.  That's where i did the Sharpshooter challenge 10 i think it is,

apperently it's totally random,  2 nights in a row no Owl in the old battlefield near braithwaite, no owl flying along the coast between St. Denis and Van Horn,  Didn't get a chance to check the shipwreck.  Once again the 🤬 owl is eluding me.  Did get me 3 perfect Panther pelts though, so my hunting trip last night into Leymone wasn't a total waste

It's a bit of a ride, but there's an owl that reliably spawns on a rock to the south of Fairwale Shanty (North of the O in "Amberino").

It spawns there in good weather between 8 and 9 pm.

It's a Coastal Horned Owl, so it makes sense to study it before you kill it.

I've also seen one at night on top of Fort Brennand.

RDR2 seems to know what you're hunting, and then shows you everything except the species you want.

So, before you start looking, just tell your console that you're looking for Western Ravens.

That should do the trick.

Lemoyne near Saint Denis. By house on stilts where you find the female gunslinger hiding out in single player stranger mission.   Camp there at night and one will fly by.
