White Hat or Black Hat?

Arthur is going to be a bad guy. But your play style is your own and so you'll be making a lot of his choices for him. How will you play? I typically am a White Hat  player. Mostly noble, honorable, avoid hitting pedestrians, don't shoot people or animals just for the sake of doing so. However, in GTAV, I played Trevor as a psychopath . Arthur will be kind of a bad dude, but maybe on the path of righteousness and so I'll play him as such.

How will you play?

I think i'll do the same. I see the Arthur character a bit like Robert De Niro in the movie Heat. Yes: he was the bad guy and the bank robber, but he didn't kill people just for laughs...still, that didn't prevent things go sour...

Can I just point out here that Arthur wears a brown hat

That could mean 2 things.  1)  It could represent him being in limbo, undecided between good or evil.  Undecided, leaving it upto the player to choose his destiny.  2)  Or it could really mean nothing than the creators liked cowboys in brown hats.

Knowing we actually get to choose how evil Arthur is. I think I may just have to go with a darker side for this one. We didn't get the option with John and I was fine with that but I tend to prefer to play the villain or bad guy over the "do no wrong Joe".

Yeah like I said earlier, you can be the good guy IRL. Why not be a badass?

I've been thinking maybe I'd start the game as a ruthless son of a bitch. That's who Arthur is, right? Then I'll start to change my ways, create a character arc.

In RDR1 you could be a good guy or a bad guy but it didn't affect the story. Wonder if it will this time or will just be side-quest and general interactions that will be affected.

I like others, will try different options on different play throughs. My first play-through I may help him, but the second time through i will do the opposite.

Going back to the screenshot, does anyone think that the guy hanging off the cliff is 'Jimmy Brooks' from the trailer?

Yeah. I always assumed it was.

Joking aside, this is an interesting topic. I don't really think much about stuff like this. Like others have mentioned, I tend to just go with the direction of the character.

Since posting this and now knowing we can actually choose if Arthur is more good or more bad, I am going to have to think a bit on it. I feel like I want to go with the bad guy simply because John was a good guy.

You could do a mix of both depending on the mission. Like maybe you don't like a certain character for some reason and let him die but you save another you like. I am just going to play it open-minded like that and go with my reactions and thoughts of the characters as individuals.

I'll be playing as mostly good. I know Arthur himself isn't going to be a "good guy" but he can be a kinder gang member so I will do that. I don't mind playing as the villain in a game but when given the choice, I would always choose light over dark.

I am considering the same. I don't know if this will end up impacting the ending of the story or not but if it ends up being the case, I will just play through it again as an evil SOB lol
