White Hat or Black Hat?

Arthur is going to be a bad guy. But your play style is your own and so you'll be making a lot of his choices for him. How will you play? I typically am a White Hat  player. Mostly noble, honorable, avoid hitting pedestrians, don't shoot people or animals just for the sake of doing so. However, in GTAV, I played Trevor as a psychopath . Arthur will be kind of a bad dude, but maybe on the path of righteousness and so I'll play him as such.

I don't know how much of the story will be based on picking between the lesser of two evils so to speak but I will likely play as bad as I can. Part of playing the villain/criminal is having a blast doing it. I am a good dude in real life so I always choose to be a menace in video games.

That’s why I liked playing Trevor in GTA. It gave me license to be ruthless, to shoot first and ask questions later. Because hey, it’s Trevor.

I normally go for the good guy option. I think it was in InFamous on Playstation where you could also choose between good or evil and I went with being good on my first playthrough but then was bad on my second playthrough which I preferred.

For a change I think I'll be the bad guy if given the option in RDR2...

I remember back with an older GTA where our family (my three brothers and I) would take turns mowing down peds in a fire truck with the idea being that you can't take your foot off the pedal unless stuck to see how long we could survive before we caught fire and exploded or got shut down my the police and it was insane fun.

The gore when mowing down peds in GTA 4 was particularly satisfying

Forgive me if I over think this, I have a tendency to think deeper the question sometimes.  In life being a good or a bad person really depends on one's perspective, for example Robin Hood, according to the tales he was a good guy.  Robbed from the rich and gave to the poor.   Now one version I have read.  Truthfully, him and his merry men were bad guys.  They broke the law, they stole from the rich and they had no qualms of killing to get what they wanted.  Now some would say they did that to protect the people and that they gave all their loot to the people.  Some believe that they actually shared their bounty for 2 reasons.  1st, to buy peoples' silence.  You give a starving person food and eventually the will follow you like a puppy begging for scraps.  2nd, they had to be constantly on the move.  Too much bounty  is hard to move, so they only kept what they could carry.

Now GTA 5, Michael and Franklin, I treated as they two people that just made bad choices.  I never took a life when playing them that I didn't have to.  Now Trevor, I really didn't like playing and yes I treated him like he was psycho all the time.

Normally being a white hat kind of guy if I can be I imagine I will play him the same way I did Michael and Franklin, but Rockstar has a tendency to put characters in bad situations.

I'll just play to the tune of Arthur. If he is a heartless hitman, which is what I gather from the trailers, then I will play just like that. I don't tend to be creative or thinking outside the box with my gaming style.

You're missing the best part of open world games, RDR in particular

I told a friend about this thread and what I had said.   He stated in any Rockstar game, he is always the bad guy, so that is how he plays them.  With Arthur he figures will be the same mis-understood bad guy, will be like all of the others cause that is the Rockstar way.  He did add that he played Trevor different, he said that Trevor was bi-polar so he tried to live upto that.  hahaha

Depends on my mood and the situations but usually, I play as a nice person.

Black hat all the way for me. What's the point of living in the brutal wild west, in a murderous gang of theives, with an arsenal at your finger tips, and walking around being lovely to everyone? F that — I can do that IRL with none of those things.

He will likely be a bad guy so that is how I will be playing. I mean I do tend to go back and forth with things like this but I try to stay true the character. When I played the first one, I was Good Boy John and didn't do anything evil or go out of my way to just make a mess of towns. Not this time. Someone beats me at a game of poker, I will just shoot them. (IN THE VIDEO GAME!)

I will be playing with my controller... :D

Joking aside, this is an interesting topic. I don't really think much about stuff like this. Like others have mentioned, I tend to just go with the direction of the character.

Really interesting topic; I studied Philosophy at Uni so this naturally tugged at my interests in morality and ethics..

I tended to play as honourably as i could, only killing when i had to,  but sometimes while free roaming a little edge seeped in and i'd blow the head of a passer by just because i could. I think its human nature to experiment with morals in games. After all, if its available, isn't everyone going to experiment with what feels 'Right' to them.

I get more out of helping strangers than killing for no reason. I spend a lot of time trying to immerse myself in the atmosphere of the game so i'm naturally let by whats going on around me- for example in RDR any time spent in Thieves Landing i would generally wreak havoc because even if you're just minding your own business some good for nothing will pull their gun on you. So yeah, i think go with the flow and enjoy it- I aim to play as Arthur's personal morals lead me- if i see a change in his personality and lean to redemption, i will play as such. :)

I am more of a whitehat man. I like to play the hero but I am guessing that Arthur won't be that type. I can sense a transition though, but not a drastic one. I'll likely play the downtime as someone who isn't a gang member vs going around killing everyone and everything in sight.

Kill?

I spotted that in the video, seems like a tough one. Who the hell is it? How would you benefit from saving him? What happens if he dies? Is it a trap?

Putting things like this into a game really helps make the experience more personal. Might be one of those moments where I just push every button at once and see what fate decides lol

The way he's sauntering around, it looks as though he has a real score to settle with Mr. Unfortunate here. (aka, "Man from Blackwater.")

Easy answer:

If the guy's a stranger and I know nothing about him (or I know he's a good guy) - Help.

If the guy's a child murderer or a rapist or tried to kill me - probably a Kill.

Granted, I too like to play honorably, but there are certain things that would make me want to step on those fingers.

It's all up to the storyline.

Knowing me I'll do 2 run-throughs of the story to try both. First time will be help.

I had always planned to do this with GTAV being that there are different ways to approach and execute a mission/heist. But I never did.
