Who else thinks weapon management is awful?

MyNameIsDutch

Question

I just started playing rdr2. I think it's a good game. I like that they took notes from the witcher lived in open world, and I've always loved westerns. However; my biggest gripe, and I have more than a few is weapons management. It sucks. I ended up with doubles of the Lancaster rifle because I found one before the game gave it to me; which was particularly erksom. Not only that but why would I want to carry 2, 3 different rifles? Or repeaters?Or shotguns? Bother some too, you can't choose to not use the off hand holster? (you also never wear it in a cutscene, boo.) Or auto equipping weapon loadouts; although that is a minor peace admittedly. I think we can all admit it's trash, and there really needs to be some kind of armory or weapons storage in the camp that allows more customization. Anyone agree?

I ended up with a second 1866 the same way as you, I'm assuming (picked up the one the coach passenger had before boarding the coach with Micah). It's a little bit annoying.

As for the rest, the only issue I have with it is with auto equipping and unequipping. Aggravatingly, I can equip all the weapons I want for a particular encounter, then get off my horse and suddenly they're all unequipped.

It isn't great, but I just shrugged it off and got on with the game.  I didn't particularly like the constant cycling through rifles to get to the one I wanted or the number of button presses to get there.  But the good thing is that game time almost halts while you're choosing weapons, so I didn't lose out on anything through my fumble fingers.

Was going to mention this. It really doesn't result in being an inconvenience unless you are online and they offer storage there so no big deal.

In Story mode their is a locker at the foot of Arthur's bed or in one of the house rooms for John in the Epilogue episodes. You can store weapons in the locker or on the horse or on your character. HOWEVER, many missions ignore your desired loadout and give you your worst possible weapons to carry into battle. This is one of the things I really hate about this game and customer service of course as there is none, imo.
