  1. In your camp or hotel room. If you want to change to warm clothes while out in the wilderness you need to have previously created custom outfits at your camp, which are then available through the items wheel on your horse at any time.

  2. Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't a game that is as forthcoming with explanations of its systems as most games these days. As a result, some mechanics might be harder to get a hang of early on. Your core stats, three of the five orbs above your mini-map, denote Health, Stamina and Dead-Eye. Charging these, and more importantly upgrading them, isn't well explained, nor is the difference between cores and bars. This guide will help you out with these stats. The other two cores are horse health and stamina, which aren't as important as the others. With cores, you have two values, one is the "bar" which actually is the colored fill around the edge of the circle, and the other is the core itself. Cores are Rockstar's way of adding a measure of survival gameplay to Red Dead Redemption 2. The main difference between cores and bars is that cores drain passively. Not doing anything, not using anything, not touching the controller - your cores still drain. The health and stamina cores work the same way, but Dead-Eye is different, so we'll deal with that later on. Basically, core drain is Rockstar's abstraction of hunger, fatigue, discomfort and so on. If you don't eat for a long time, the cores drain quicker. If you are dressed for the wrong weather, your cores will drain quicker. In ideal circumstances, meaning there are no extra factors causing Arthur problems, cores drain from full to empty in 90 real-world minutes (this still applies to Dead-Eye). Bars, on the other hand, work like health and stamina does in every other game. Get shot, health bar goes down. Sprint, stamina bar goes down. How are bars and cores related? Simple - the more juice in your Health and Stamina cores, the faster your bars regenerate. If your cores are running low, regeneration takes a hit. Another interaction is that when the bars run out, the cores start being consumed. If you take so much damage that your health bar is empty, Arthur doesn't die immediately, but rather further damage reduces your health core. When both are empty, you're wasted. In practical terms, this means that so long as you don't empty your bars in any circumstances, you only need to care about cores every good hour or so. In order to refill cores and bars, the game uses a wide array of consumable items, which are helpfully categorized. All Provisions refill cores, with their description stating which core they refill, while Tonics refill bars. Alternatively, resting can refill cores. Take Arthur back to camp, or to any bed you encounter that isn't occupied, and take a nap. Certain Tonics have yellow icons. This means that they don't only refill one of your bars, but fortify them. Fortified bars turn yellow and for a short amount of time do not drain even when used. Think of these as special potions are used in other games - you typically use them when you know a tough encounter is ahead. Cores are un-upgradeable. All cores drain from full to empty in 90 minutes and there is nothing you can do about that. Bars are a different story. Bars have their own system for upgrades where using them upgrades them in a sense. Running or performing other Stamina consuming activities will, over time, upgrade your Stamina bar. Shooting enemies or animals with Dead-Eye will upgrade it. Skinning animals and gathering food upgrades Health. While the Dead-Eye core is the same, the Dead-Eye bar isn't - it doesn't regenerate. Even at a full core, you need to manually refill Dead-Eye's bar with Tonics. Additionally, there is a percentage chance to get a small instant Dead-Eye refill whenever you score a kill. Horse cores and bars are also upgraded through use and refilled with Provisions and Tonics. However, you can also upgrade bars by bonding with your horse through praise and grooming, and these acts will also help keep core drain at a minimum. You can check out our beginner's guide here. 3. No spoilers, just some new information. It's been confirmed that Arthur cannot see prostitutes or engage in any sexual activity in the game. I wasn't bothered by any of the other information (like clipping of objects), but this I have to admit is a let down. This is a game where you HAVE to eat and sleep, change your clothes based on the weather, feed and look after your horse, etc. Horses dynamically crap, their testicles shrivel dynamically, animals decompose dynamically, and there are over 80 pages of dialogue for each NPC... And yet they drew the line at sex. Arthur Morgan, your Wild West outlaw, can butcher entire towns and settlements, but will never be able to visit a brothel. Figures. It made sense for John. But for Arthur? Nah. I'm still hyped for the game, but I gotta admit I don't appreciate that they purposefully kept this from the game. It's not like it was an oversight. The game has dynamic horse pooping. This was intentionally omitted from the game. A Rockstar game. Potentially the only Wild West game of this caliber that will ever exist and your outlaw can never have sex. Murder indiscriminately, sure. Sex, nah. That's too much. I don't know if you can tell -- I'm pretty salty right now.

  4. Keep your eye on the wanted notifications. If someone reports you and you were not clearly identified, they ran across a dead body, etc., the law will investigate. ....this is all mentioned in the message box that appears. Masks do help and so does changing outfits to help reduce your wanted status. .....although any bounty will still be there. The system is more complex this time around. DO NOT shoot at lawmen unless it's a last resort. That will hang a "dead or alive" status on you. When you give up, make sure you're weapon(s) holstered and use the dialogue button to surrender. They don't take all of your money. Don't commit crimes in populated areas, don't stick around when you're spotted (unless you can catch the witness without other seeing) and don't piss people off. Use the dialogue options if people are rude and back the hell off. You have the option most times to "diffuse" in the dialogue when people are antagonizing you. Make an effort to boost your honor level in town. Talk to the population and you'll find they become more friendly, give you better prices in stores, etc. I have to tell you..... I've been in town plenty of times and it's not a matter of walking on eggshells. You need to be smart about it. Don't ride fast through crowded streets because if you hit someone hard enough with your horse, you will get a bounty (assault charge I believe). Plus, it pisses off the townsfolk when you ride too fast. Walking or just a smidge faster if your best bet. I avoid rival gangs in town when I can and if I do get in a scuffle, I make sure that it's only fists. .....I've won a few fights with no consequences as long as you stop in time (don't kill the opponent). ....but rival gangs will usually draw weapons and it's best just to avoid them or get out of town asap before the law gets on your tail. btw, if you think there will be trouble, call your horse so its nearby in case you need to make a hasty getaway. Posses and lawmen are easy enough to spot on the minimap as there will be a red glow in the direct that they may be coming from. Simply run the other direction or (in my case if they are a posse), I will get to a defendable area and pick them off. I've had some satisfying gunfights and running, exchanges of fire with posses. I've played quite a few hours so far and have only had 4 bounties placed on me. The first was an accident. The second was animal cruelty as I threw a throwing knife at a cat (thought it was a varmint. The third was me being stupid and assaulting someone who pissed me off. The last was from a mission and scripted so I had no choice. .....almost ready to pay off that $300. Personally, I'm enjoying the new bounty system and it's added complexity. Once you understand it, it's easy enough to stay or get out of trouble. Oh, and stay out of the territories where you are wanted if you're constantly being harassed there. ......at least until you can pay of the bounty (which can be done at any rail station in the game world).

  5. first gamertag I ever had was BoomBazookaJoe back in the system link days of Halo. After a small stint with another GT (and a break from gaming for a short while) I had forgot all my login information so I had to start from scratch when I bought a new XB1. So I updated it a bit to personalize it, BoomBazookaJD; my childhood nickname from my late grandfather.

  6. I'm in Texas for work, just got to our hotel (finally...) after 9 hours of traveling. I'm setting up my Xbox (of course I brought it!) before we go get dinner, then I'm going to play rdr2 until I fall asleep! Hopefully we get the job done early tomorrow and I'll have most of the day to play.

  8. That is strange. My thoroughbred died and I was stuck with some crappy horse for some time while valentine was on lock down. When I went back to the stable in valentine a few game hours later my thoroughbred was available...Maybe just wait a little while longer

  9. First. Red Dead 1. Top 5 game of my all time list EVER. But. Played so many games since. Especially Destiny the last few years. GoW etc Good grief the gun play and combat is atrocious. Alright it's basica and average. But nothing spectacular. How do they have all this money and can't improve the shooting mechanics at all? That's my ONLY gripe. But it's a big one. It feels stiff like I'm battling the character. Not like he is an extension of my arm. I don't understand. The Kotaku review was the only to mention this. It's like stuck in last gen shooting mechanics. Do you guys agree? Am I missing something. Or DO you guys think this is on purpose? Like the view doesn't even shift. I don't know I feel like there is so much more they could of done with it. A game centered around shooting. It feels like GTA V which is to say still mediocre. I expected more. Oh well. Back to the story.

  11. Hi all, I've been busy documenting all the locations I can on an interactive map - figure some people here might find it useful: https://rdr2map.com/ Let me know if there's a particular category people are interested in, and I can prioritize mapping those out. Tspoon

  12. They are in the auction yard in valentine. Check which ones are 3* by using LT/L2 and you can kill them and skin them, but it's hard here. You will get a wanted level and the town will come after you so you need to have your horse ready etc and be prepared for that.

  18. Thanks. Sounds like I just need to be more patient then! I've been spending majority of my time doing the missions so think I need to spend a few hours just out in the wilderness and practice.

  20. Sounds like one to report to Rockstar unfortunately. When I encountered mission glitches often just dying or reloading will clear it, but if you have already tried that then there's not much to advise.

  21. These animals are unique animals of a specific species and when killed they drop legendary pelts, these pelts are highly valuable and can be used to craft trappers and special clothing items. If you somehow lose the legendary pelt it will be transported to the Trapper so you will never miss this reward once you get it. Furthermore collecting these animals also completes one of your requirement towards the Compendium.

  26. I have the special edition and i was riding my Dappled Black Thoroughbred and i fell off a cliff and my horse died. I can't find it in the stable anywhere so have i lost it?!? If i can't use the same horse for the rest of the game I won't be happy as I paid extra for it and now it's just disappeared, its DLC so shouldn't i permanently keep it?

  27. A game should be reflecting real life so unless you're a priest or a big, fat loner, sex should be part of that storytelling.

  30. Like others, it's not something I really need in the game, but would make sense to have it. A lot of outlaws are usually depicted frequenting brothels, and since it was in GTA, if Rockstar is going for realism, it seems odd that they would leave it out. It could still come late in some DLC.

  31. If I’m honest, yeah, it’s a little strange it’s not in the game. Not something I was looking forward to but I’m surprised it’s not a feature. I mean, Jesus, it’s being hailed as the most realistic game ever made and our outlaw can’t visit a brothel? The horses’ balls know what temperature it is! Again, not needed, certainly. But why not include it? Because it’s too risqué? We’re dismembering bodies in a slow motion cam, we can’t show Arthur walking into a room with a pretty lady and hear some birds and bees?

  33. I bought the Ultimate Edition and got the fast Thuroughbred horse with it. I get it from the stable. I name it. I use it and bond with it. Then after a while if I die I will respawn with a different horse altogether and have to go to a stable to get my thoroughbred and bond with it all over again. Is this happening to anyone else? So frustrating because I lose all the bonding I did with it. **Update** Now when I go to the stable the Pre-order Thuroughbread horse is no longer available. Wtf!?
