....well, you could parlay. I mean, there’s no reason to rack up a massive bounty just because some kid shot at you first. That being said, being shot at/killed should automatically make you exempt from accumulating bounties for actions taken against the shooter and his posse for something like 10 minutes or so...3 points

I was worried this would happen ever since they described the bounty system and I've had the exact same experience as you since the update dropped, the only difference being that I don't wanna spend $7,000 just to avoid paying my bounty. Rockstar have made self defence a crime and are punishing players who defend themselves by taking their money away, I've lost £58 dollars to bounty hunters already. Rockstar haven't added this bounty system to reduce the amount of griefing, they've added this bounty system to make it look like their trying to reduce the amount of griefing. Everybody knows that if Rockstar wanted to stop griefing all they'd have to do was add PVE Lobbies/Friendly Freeroams where players couldn't harm each other but Rockstar will never do that because griefers contribute towards their profits, I'd be willing to bet that a decent number of Shark Cards and Gold Bars have been bought by disgruntled players that didn't have enough in game cash to buy the weapons/vehicles they were being griefed by and therefore gave Rockstar more money in order to purchase said weapons/vehicles. I found Red Dead Online a tad boring and stale before the update came out and I was hoping an update would revitalise the game and increase the player base but all it's done is ruin Freeroam and make hunting vastly less profitable. They still haven't fixed the stubble facial hair option or issues that cause the game to crash and they seem to have removed all loot from trains. I had a red sash glitched onto an outfit that wasn't doing any harm but Rockstar deleted that so I was hoping they would've added some good clothing in return, they've added some decent clothing options but most of them seem to be marketed towards clowns judging by the brightness of the colours used. RIP Landon Ricketts, without the sash I just look like a tramp. Red Dead Online was a good bit of fun before the update so it's a real shame they've started to tax players. I'm gonna quit playing until the next update or patch, if Rockstar had any decency they would fix this broken bounty system and give players their money back but unfortunately I don't see that happening.2 points

I saw the bounty hunter thing actually force a mission to end just so it could start. Like it cancelled it out. And the dude who had the bounty was like okay lemme get rid of this. Cuz the leader was kinda irritated and would have kicked him if he didn't get rid of it. And I only say scream cuz before I started online, I remember hearing the playerbase scream real hard at the prices of items and the low output of rewards from missions. And I think it got changed pretty fast, well fast for Rockstar.2 points

that the type of environment my crew and I aim for, we help random people on our journey, just approach them and hang out a bit, help them hunt, escort them on their missions, etc.. we have a strict no griefing policy, where random people shouldn't be harassed or killed until they provoke an attack. These type of scenarios/encounters encourage people to stay, enjoy and play the game which is what we need if we want Rockstar to actually make this game into an amazing experience.2 points

I called it from the start. Any sort of so called anti-griefing measures R* adds will be used against players who defend themselves. And here we are... As soon as I joined free roam, I was attacked by a large posse. They where all under level 20 and where not that quick or good, so I easily defended myself and laid waste to this pack of low levels. But they kept respawning and coming back at me. So I kept defending myself. 30 mins later.. I have a $35 dollar bounty and all the newbies left the game. And for the rest of the night I have to deal with so called bounty hunters spawning in trying to kill me and take $35 away from me. I'll admit, at 1st it was fun being wanted 'dead or alive'. Friends of mine where cracking up as I sang "Waaanted Dead or Alive'... as bounty hunters kept coming for me. But then it just became annoying. Because they just keep coming for me, over and over again. On top of that.. My blip is red. So now players think im the 'bad guy' which prompts them to shoot 1st. Which also ends with me defending myself and getting more of a bounty. This isn't a Bounty system.. Its a kill tax with debt collectors. And I ain't paying.. Instead I ended up upgrading a few ability cards, spent all my money till I had 1 cent left. Then I let the debt collectors kill me (and they only got 1 cent). Guess that's the new way of playing to avoid this dumb ass new Bounty System (Kill Tax). Just stay broke and live free. Spend all the money ASAP and just use GOLD for purchasing items. .1 point

Confirmed... I’ve got plenty of wildlife to sling lead at today, in all the usual spots. And now I notice Bison are dropping FIVE cuts of meat instead of the old max of four. Sweet!1 point

Ok... but still, after you kill them they’re easy enough to evade while they respawn, unless you’re a red dot constantly... have you considered maybe that they don’t suck as bad as they do, but are deliberately goading you into shooting them over and over until you rack up enough bounty to snap? Regardless, there is no reason you absolutely have to rack up massive bounties. But I still think if you’re shot at first, you should e exempt from Bounty and aggressive player status for defending yourself1 point

Yeah..... I farm so much meat and hides in my hunting spot that I simply stow the first 2 or 3 star, 4 legged, whole animal I kill. Same with the two sides of the horse. Usually turkeys, geese or whatever I think will get more money. I skin the rest and farm the materials. Now, I'm not taking into consideration individual cost differences but just judging by my usual haul, time spent, etc., my profit is essentially the same. I think I lost pelts once but I recall being surprised a couple times when they were all still there when I expected them not to be. I need to pay more attention to this.1 point

I don't know about dying. But my posse member's horse was left at emerald station and we were about 3/4 of the way to Hamish (o'creaghs run), and his horse eventually caught up with him and it still had the pelts. I was honestly surprised, I thought it would have despawned or at least the pelts would be gone. Also when the mission ended, pelt still there and not on the ground where the horse last was.1 point

Ya know.. for me. The hunting changes I actually like. Feels more right. Full animal = full pay.1 point

Yeah, I did some hunting last night and after trading in a typical haul, I got about the same amount I normally do. I still find hunting lucrative in this game after the update. A plus is that I now get paid for all my pelts too.1 point

We went hunting last night in my favorite spot and there were plenty of birds, deer, little critters and even more exotic animals to be had. I loaded up like I normally do and rode into town. With meat, feathers, horns/antlers, pelts, whole carcasses and other bits my payout was what it normally is for that amount of time I spent in the field. To be honest, I find hunting just as lucrative as I did before. What I really like is that I'm now being paid for pelt that I didn't used to get money for due to a bug. I wasn't losing a lot but it all adds up. If there is a way to do it that works well, I agree. Personally, I don't have as much of a problem with the bounty system as some do. I've had a posse member get killed by a low level player we crossed paths with (likely just scared). I shot them with my shotgun riding up behind my team mate. Instant kill and a 20 cent bounty. We simply rode on. ....I paid the bounty at a later time when filling up with ammo at the post office. Something else I found interesting is when I was riding the train through Saint Denis, I heard shooting and then a posse jumped on board with me. They knew I was there but didn't approach. They were being chased by lawmen / posses. I don't know how many they killed (it was a lot) but they never turned dark red like continual murderers do. I dunno..... Seems to me you have to do a lot to get a higher bounty on your head whether that's indiscriminately killing fellow players or vigorously defending yourself. So far, I don't have a problem. Also, griefers have almost been a non existent problem for us since the update so far. ......which is great in my book.1 point

Only 100 Gold Bars! I'd honestly be shocked if Oxen and Donkeys or other beasts of burden didn't make it in eventually.1 point

There is a lot R* needs to do still with online. But... DUDE.. Online only launched... as BETA... 12 WEEKS ago. There *is* no “long ago.” I understand attention spans are short these days, but DAY-um!1 point

I played around two hours today. I saw plenty of red dots (maybe two posies screwing around) in and around valentine). I saw them from quite a way off. I tried to do some of my hunting circuits... that’s my biggest let down. It’s like there are no animals around anymore. I can’t say I noticed all that huge a price drop in the items I did sell (I’m not the best to make a comparison. I didn’t keep records or care all that much) but I’m not brining in near the same volume of wildlife parts and accessories to the dealer. I passed through valentine on my way to my camp, where the giant gunfight was going on. I got killed, of course, and parlay popped up right away. I like this, though this time I didn’t take the option. I got on my horse and rode while my would be griefer chased after and send a few bullets at my back. I was able to easily loose him by taking a cross country shortcut, so I can’t say the reduced blip rate is all that bad a thing. I was also able to cross paths with many of the blue and purple players, so I can’t say the world is all that empty feeling. Well, other than the wildlife up and leaving... overall, I didn’t find all that much to complain about in my brief post update visit. But I don’t play a violent psychopath style. I also didn’t try to fight my way out of the valentine situation I (quite deliberately) put myself in. I don’t know how bad the bounty system is for defending myself, or if it even applies when you go into the one on one or whatever system.1 point

Yeah I will agree. In fairness article looks like it was written by someone who has a short on the stock. If i'm not mistaken they neglected to mention that RDO has generated more revenue at this point in the development cycle than GTAO. It's early in product life and probably have lots of plans for enhancements and new stuff to come so it's more of a patience and provide feedback sort of stage.1 point

yeah they truly are trying to leech out money and push for gold bar purchases. Its so obvious... They nerfed hunting, prices etc.. added no other means of making money in this update and even nerfed abilities that others have spent tons on (glad i didnt upgrade any because i knew some BS was gonna happen, in their defense though it is a "Beta"), even after not releasing clothing items and a gun they were saying was coming out yesterday lmao an unfinished product/update (aka a "BETA" update) although some features are actually a plus such as the blips, and map proximity where people arent so hostile or paranoid anymore, also there seem to be more NPC's and Wagons etc.. imo, I just hope they add in stealth mechanics where if you are crouched, not moving, out fo sight or even using silent weapons you don' pop up on the radar.1 point

I had two incidents last weekend..I had my Michael Douglas falling down moment. First rode into tumbleweed three people at the butcher's, everyone seems ok....bang dead. Two snipers on flat roof opposite. The 5 players who now it became clear were working together systematically then griefers every player and npc for ages. As I rode away, I thought I ain't going to take it this time. Got up on a hill and sniped the 2 on the roof, 3 times. The other 3 charged up the trail to me and I fire bottled and shotgunned them. All 5 rage quit. I'm LVL 27 and not very good btw. Second was two players camping in my camp for over an hour. It was a war or attrition which I was not too going to back down on. One got so drunk on my calls beer he fell over and I managed to drop a fire bottle on him without flagging PvP. Ended up dropping the flag, killing both and moved on. Messaged them to say i had recorded their activity and had reported them for griefing. One responded, Good luck my dad is Bill GATES! I replied would he go on the record for my blog to say he encouraged his son to grief as it would make me a fortune. I got a fu back. Lol1 point

Thanks guys for the replies, this happened 2 days ago and it's still bugging me. I'm level 50 and have been shot in the most ridiculous circumstances by griefers. Dismounting at the butcher in Rhodes with my stag shot from the bank rooftop, trying to enter the gunsmith in Blackwater shot and killed for no reason etc etc etc I accept that, its part of the game. I didn't get the sickos name either it didn't come up because it was my horse he shot not me or I was too stunned and confused to notice. I accept being shot by griefers but this just left a nasty taste, it was planned and executed in a truly nasty cruel way. What kind of people are there in this world? The game should be fun and not making you question what kind of freaks are out there. Maybe I'm naive but I have never, ever shot anyone (in particular their horse) for no reason. Even when I take out a griefer I leave their horse alone, this incident was just cruel and sick. The fact he didn't shoot me speaks volumes, what a psycho, I wonder if it was because I'm female, if so that makes it even worse.1 point

Report the player using the in game reporting feature (disruptive behavior) and then block them if you're able. Talking or trying to reason with these griefers will likely get you nowhere and actually feeds into their satisfaction over what they have done.1 point

2 shots from my Springfield (I tend to use High Velocity, rather than Express) will usually kill ayone, but the occasional person does seem more robust than usual. A few ability cards reduce damage taken, and there are tonics too. Lets assume that he has maxed out health, which should be a given by lvl 88, then: 1. Never without one - reduces damage while wearing a hat, so if shots 1 and 2 hit the body, and 3 was a hatshot, youve got 2 reduced damage hits; 2. slow and steady - if after the first hit he goes into deadeye for the second one, shot 2 is being nerfed by NWO AND S&S, so maybe minimal damage; 3. if he's drunk a tonic that fortifies health, who knows what actual benefit that provides. I still don't know what effect 'range' has. Does it reduce damage over distance? Does it affect your lock-on distance? a bit of both? Am I wasting my time with HV rounds? I'm always a bit surprised if I get 2 hits with my trusty Springfield and the guy's still standing, but it does happen, and I don't think (though I might be wrong) that there is some sinister unseen damage modifier operating under the surface. Proof? Nope!1 point
