  1. Well thats your opinion and you are entitled to it, I dont have to agree, I think more players agree with me than you and Rockstar obviously agreed as they made severe changes to the game just for this reason, but that doesnt mean I am right or you are wrong, many people will have many different expectations, and ways to play the game. BUT if someones way of playing ruins someone else's game then maybe they should re-think their play style because although you dont agree, my game style will never interupt what you want to do in game I respect others and I treat people the way I want to be treated. This is way more than "just a game" it is a new style of game, and it can be really great for those of us who appreciate the attention to detail Rockstar added into the game to make it immersive and realistic. If a player isnt hearing anyone on the mic, thats fine, you dont have to hear me to not shoot me, lol shoot your friends, shoot others who want to engage with you, but leave players minding their own business alone, you will never be right with any excuse you can make for causing others to have a negative experience, it is not good for anyone and there is no excuse for it there is no benefit for you to kill innocent people and now the way the game is it will cost you, and the person you attack will have the advantage. Do anything you want as long as it doesnt effect others, simply put there are many ways to shoot your guns in this game so you dont need to go out of your way to shoot at people just because they pass by, that seems to me like if a player does that maybe their bored, and then I ask how can that be? there are stranger missions, story missions, encounters, achievements, daily challenges, pvp modes horse races, fishing competitions, etc.. I mean seriously you can do a dozen other things that actually pay you in xp, gold, and cash, whereas shooting a person who is trying to get to a butcher gives you nothing but a bounty and an aggravated player who was trying to do what HE wanted until you came along. The people who enjoy causing that aggravation and do it only for that reason are griefers and unwanted in the game by all, even those who like to mix it up, I dont mind a gun fight, or a fist fight, but I dont like being shot in the back when I am not looking or ready and doing something like skinning an animal or fishing You suggesting who should and shouldnt play this game is ridiculous, just play the game and have fun, dont worry about philosophy and strategy and what everyone else should be doing. If you enjoy bothering people then so be it, the game is set up against that type of player these days and people are pretty well set up to defend themselves against it, it will cost you money to do it now, while the person you kill looses nothing but a few minutes so, whatever man.

  2. No actual benefit (yet) besides e-peen and treasure maps every 5 lvls. But to get everything the game has to offer (cards, guns, pamphlets, costume etc) You need more than 100 lvls.

  4. LOL, I know I am way too wordy, and it often cracks me up because most people simply wont read it, they just dont have the patience, so I have been trying to shorten posts when I think of it, I dont like to be so wordy, but often I feel when I read it back that it comes out as if I were speaking and if I were this is what I would say, but I knew I had covered this already, I only wanted to short summary for new players who seem to be joining everyday so they might read it and learn something.

  6. On March 7th I started, on the 12th I was level 7, today after 2.5 months or about 10 weeks I did it!! Actually I averaged 10 levels a week for 10 weeks. If you are new and just getting started here are my tips to you. Get a fishing pole as early as you can, for cash only, for xp you need to either hunt, run story missions over again, do stranger missions, clear hideouts, do random encounters, etc.. Now things are much better for new players compared to 10 weeks ago. The day I started, I had no clue what to expect, I spawned in near Valentine, set up a camp, went to it, 3 players saw me and followed me to my camp and started messing with me, they tried to lead my horse away, etc.. later I found out they just did that to see what I would do because they were bored, and this was fun to them, to intimidate new players, that should have told me how it was going to be. For about 8 weeks it was brutal, you literally had to hide and hunt/fish to get any level grinding done, or do things like spawn in New Austin then fast travel to Rhodes to do things and not have a whole bunch of red dots just killing anything that moved in each town center making going to the butcher a real problem, I remember in Strawbery some guy hiding on the cliff over looking the butcher and just taking pot shots at anyone who came in to his view, just because. For a time there were players who woudl purposely crash into you then shoot you for it, etc.. yeah, it was something. So it was hard, but if you want to do well in this game you have to level up to open up better weapons, ammo, horses, camp upgrades, etc.. and you cant do that if you are fighting griefers all day. My strategy was to ignore them, if they killed me parlay and get back to what I was doing, and there were many bad days. But if you are just starting you have it so much easier than we did 2 months ago, so just level up, the faster you do it the faster you can really enjoy the game. Im now at a point where I have everything I want and need, as I make gold I will buy one more thing then clean up my weapons, otherwise I am done and it is time to play. My advice is work toward a goal each time you come in so you have a plan and then stick to the plan. The new system makes it very easy to avoid people, you will still find a random back shooting excuse making coward out there, (im doing daily challenges relax dude) lol yeah ok, but otherwise if you go into passive mode and just grind your levels, you will have no problem at all. I bought every weapon except the semi auto pistols and the carcano, but I have everything else, and all ammo types, all pamphlets except for bait and a few horse stimulants, I put in 19 days and 14 hours I think it said when I looked earlier, I think around 500 hours of game play in 2.5 months, to complete the 100 levels. Good luck, enjoy the grind, once it is over you will be thankful you did it and you will have earned everything you have in game and be able to focus on pvp and other pve modes.

  7. Hey, and welcome to the forum Firstly, this is a fan run forum and has no association with Rockstar or Take-Two, but that doesn't mean there may not be developers lurking, since this is an open forum. Rockstar generally doesn't run forums but they DO want all of the players suggestions. You can submit your ideas and feedback here: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadonline/feedback?step=decd9bdb I like a lot of your ideas, and I'm sure others will join in soon

  8. You're absolutely right. There is a lot more to the RDO game world although some tend to over simplify what "PvE'ers" want as just picking herbs and a hunting simulator. That's a part of it but not what I want at all. To me, that's just being dismissive and not conducive to an open, honest and constructive discussion on the topic. Nor is the suggestion for folks to go play another game or that their opinion doesn't matter. Personally, I really liked the campaign and I don't see NPC engagements as brainless encounters. If others do, that's fine but I like clearing gang hideouts, random rescues, ambushes, missions, etc. where you have to battle NPCs. I really enjoy the coop in RDO as that is something that wasn't offered in the campaign. I also agree with @The_Liquor that I wish conflicts between players in Free Roam made more sense. IMO, it would be more fun that way and perhaps even give me a reason to engage with randoms. These new classes might open the door to something like that. I also like the direction R* has taken this game. The new defense and offensive modes give players an opportunity for a little more flexibility in their choice of play style. It's not a "cheat", it's a choice in a "one size fits all" game mode. Personally, I respect that some don't like these changes but I appreciate them. ....even with their flaws that I hope will get ironed out as time progresses.

  9. They mentioned the concept of professions like bounty hunter coming in the summer update. I'm curious to see what they'll have entailed for that. Will players who choose to be a bounty hunter go after NPC targets or player ones?

  10. My point was, I like what Rockstar is trying to do, even if it’s not perfect. Trying to implement measures to reduce the type of behaviour I was describing while still leaving room for the element of risk. What I didn’t do was accuse you or anyone else in particular of any behaviour whatsoever (like you seem to be doing to me). I gave a broad description of a type of play that seems to be recurring problem in the game (especially early on). I don’t see the point at all in the random killing. What’s the motive for shooting a guy in the back of the head while he’s stuck in a fishing animation? It’s not even robbery since you can’t loot anything and you can’t call it a challenge since the guy has no ability to fight back or likely to even be aware your there without his mini map up. What outlaw in all of history (even Hollywood history) set up on a rooftop murdering random people that walked into a store all day? And all without a thing to gain for it? I can see if you were laying an ambush for someone in particular, maybe a rival gang member, or a trap for a dead or alive bounty target. This game has the potential to be so much more than just a western shooter and it even has game modes built in to accommodate the needs of those who feel like an hour or two of pure combat. RDR has the potential to grow into a full fledged western RPG, with reasons to be hunting players Down, or get hunted down by others, ways and methods to raid each other’s camps. Perhaps our persistent posse system can grow into something where rivalries get tracked and the passive/agressive/bounty systems don’t apply when you come across a rival posse member. Maybe the bounty system can grow into something that rewards another player who successfully captures another player with a bounty and successfully gets them to the sheriffs office in one of those cage wagons, all while fighting off the targets posse and rival bounty hunters... I just want a fleshed our world where there are reasons and motives as well as risks and rewards for the PVP elements. If I get murdered, I want there to be a reason for it. I want a meaningful incentive to make me think about hunting someone else down. As much fun as an open world fight can be, I don’t want it to become a 24/7 purposeless death match all over the map. I don’t want this to become GTA Old West. Maybe my vision for what this game could be is just different than yours.

  11. Yeah, I’m really got to disagree. To me it’s not fun to be spawn killed by a guy with 100 levels on me making it it impossible to accomplish anything. I don’t ā€˜feel the win’ when I make it to the butcher without getting shot in the middle of town for no reason, I feel the ā€˜thank god there are no di*ks around to screw with my very limited gaming time today’. You want an endless gunfight, and that’s ok. That’s why they have showdown modes, where you can actually be challenged by people focusing on killing you and nothing else, instead of the challenge of sniping someone in the back of the head who doesn’t see it coming and isn’t expecting it... the encounter I gave above is my idea of the acceptable risk from PVP in the free roam world. An outlaw with a motive trying to take what he wants, not a psychotic dickhead taking cheap shots.

  12. I definitely agree with this 100% In the end R* is listening to its' quarterly reports on revenue; in the end R* is listening to their shareholders/investors, I doubt they're thinking about the fairness of griefers, when the majority of players are not griefers. If finding ways to reduce griefers means more players, in-turn more money, R* will take that position. At the end of the day, R*/Take-Two is a company and they're always going to be in favor of more revenue coming their way, and not about the fairness of a digital world, and what socio-economic ideology they should implement. If the majority are bitching about griefing, and activities that encourage griefiing (the old daily challenges), R* will listen, and has. That's my two-cents anyway, just to add-on to Lumpers reply.

  17. Let me start off by saying I have always loved Rockstar games. Ive played every GTA since I was a kid and I loved Red Dead Revolver back when that came out. Red Dead Redemption built upon Red Dead Revolver in so many ways, it made me truly have a love for the theme of cowboys and outlaws more than I ever had before. Anyway, lets get back on topic; Red Dead Redemption 2 had an amazing story and I loved every second of it. GTA online gave me high hopes for what Red Dead Online would be when it released. I remember beating the story and checking the news every day to see if there was any updates on when Red Dead Online would release. I remember counting every night how many days were left until Red Dead Online was gonna finally come out. 10 days, 9 days, 8 days etc. Then it released. I was so disappointed to see how little content there was. It felt so empty. Sure you could go hunt, or posse up with your friends, or do showdowns, but for someone who loves the game and wants to play it a lot and do things in it, it all gets boring so fast. You get tired of hunting, so you go do stranger missions. Then you get tired of doing stranger missions, so you go do the story missions. Then you finish all the story missions, so you go do showdown series and other random PvP jobs. (and you dont even get to select which one you actually want to do) Then you do what? Wait for the next update? It could be weeks, even months before you get something new to do, so what do you do in the mean time? Stranger missions, Hunting, and PvP, because what else is there to do? Not much. This is where the suggestions actually begin. Major Additions/Changes -Ability to create custom game modes and maps, like in GTA online -More depth to camps, such as: -A place to store wagons if you wish to have your own -Ability to customize wagons, new wheels, colors, better horses, etc. -Recruit people and pay them to work in your camp such as: -Hunter to periodically store meat/animal parts in your camp for you to sell/use -Scavenger to periodically go out and get herbs, find items in empty houses, etc. -Chef to cook with the animal parts and herbs, maybe every few hours they have a meal ready or you can pay extra to have one made on the spot -Merchant to sell you and people who pass by your camp basic items -Stable worker, to manage and tend to your unused horses -Ability to interact and do things with people to increase bond with them, making their services better -Import/Export missions, similar to GTA online -Recruit people who make products, legal or otherwise -Sell products to buyers who want them through transport missions -Bond with workers and use money to upgrade their tools to make their product -Years actually go by -Since Read Dead Online is a prequel to the story mode, events can happen as they progress up to the end of the first Red Dead Redemption. What i mean by this, is for example, the docks in Blackwater are being worked on, and they should be done soon. So if, for example when a few months go by in real life, Red Dead Online can progress by 1 year, and the docks will be complete, some events will have happened, and newspaper boys can be added so you can read about the events, new buildings can be done, and invented weapons and technologies can be added to the game. After a year or two in game we can see that theres a hole in the Saint Denis bank, and then a few in game years later we can see that beechers hope has been built. -Watch Armadillo become a decent town like in the original Red Dead Redemption -Add Mexico -A great and difficult task that may have to wait until next gen, but it may be extremely worth it. -Could be a "hardcore" zone. You are always on offensive mode here, and can always be killed by other players in free roam, possibly without them losing honor to make things more hardcore -More XP and rewards from stranger missions in Mexico, -Animals native to mexico only are worth more if they are brought up and sold in the states, which would be difficult with player killing so easy -Opens up even more possibility for missions and Import/Export Minor Additions/Changes -Minigames such as canoe races, foot races, fist fighting clubs, shooting ranges for fun and to level up stats -A way to test guns before you buy them, like a shooting range -Ability to keep holding small animals after you skin them so you don't drop it just to pick it back up and stow it on your horse -A mission to visit guarma, or to just be able to go there whenever you want -Decorations to place in your camp yourself, such as hunting trophies -Ability to sell stolen horses for bad honor and wild horses for good honor -Funny horse cosmetics such as armor, hats, tie, etc. -Better swimming -Somewhere to get a boat without killing the person on it and taking it -Sail big boats -More stuff to do in Ambarino. the only reason ive even gone up there in Red Dead Online was to just explore -Bigfoot as an extremely rare but valuable spawn in the woods to hunt -Special horses for doing extremely difficult tasks, such as the horses of the apocalypse -60fps mode in exchange for worse graphics (I believe all games should have this) -Hot air balloon that you can actually control and fly around yourself, maybe for like $10000+ -An indicator that your character is getting hungry before you start losing weight -More bows. Crossbow, Longbow, etc -Slightly cheaper food? -Better jumping. your character jumps a foot off the ground, if even that much. -Less fall damage, but if you fall from too high you limp for a while -Cacti actually hurt you and your horse rather than just making your controller vibrate -Rob and Loot any wagon with items in it -Heist missions -Teeth that dont look terrible -Glasses -Eyepatch -Tattoos -Reasons to explore the map, such as photography challenges -Bounty missions from sheriffs where players can easily steal the bounty from you -Pets for camps -Random bar brawls -Make Cripps actually do things I only make this post in desperation and in hope that a game with great potential will meet that potential. So I do very much hope that someone who can do something about the game reads this and genuinely considers my suggestions. Rockstar has made a great thing and isnt giving it the attention it deserves, so if possible, please spread the word so that they can at least have an idea of what they could do with this wonderful game. And if you have any other suggestions, or a valid reason why something I suggested is not a good idea, feel free to reply and tell me (and hopefully Rockstar) about it. Thank You

  19. Woah, hold on! . I don't play on passive, at all. Here's one thing we agree on --I, too, like the sense of a good challenge, so I do not change to defensive because I feel it defeats the Wild West Theme (that's just me). A lot of us aren't getting to triple digit lvls because we were on passive mode --it was just recently implemented. I think the option is there, and rightly so, because it encourages more people into RDO. FYI, no worries, btw, I thought we were having a healthy chat, you didn't offend me! šŸ˜„ Very, very good point! I think implementation of consequences for being a magnum dong, and griefing everyone, is a great idea. There are THOUSANDS of games where PvP is the core of the game, a Wild West game that gives you options to hunt, fish, and possibly farm, shouldn't be on that list. This is why there are separate events, like Showdowns and whatnot. They created such breathtaking sceneries, took a lot of time adding a huge database of animals of all species --surely there's more to this game than just PvP, you know?

  22. I've been waiting for Poker in RDO since day one. Very happy to see it added. I expect Blackjack will be added at some point, too. There are a few saloons with Blackjack tables - Rhodes is one. I noticed with the big spring update that the Blackjack tables looked nicer, so it feels like that may happen soon.

  24. I agree with you on this. Grinding/ranking up uncontested is weak sauce to me. Doesn't sit well with me at all. Do I grief? No. But I also can take care of myself. I like the challenge of some tool thinking he can get the jump on me. Gives me something to do . I do play a lot of Showdowns but fighting in the Free Roam is a totally different animal. I personally love both . You can't even compare the two. I ride around towns sometimes waiting for someone to shoot at me. It is something I enjoy. Gives me a challenge, because NPCs really are a joke as far a difficulty is concerned. I'm in the 200s and I have no issue hunting without being trolled or bothered. It is called map awareness and going to places that aren't typically overrun with tools. Not that hard. Or if you can't or don't want to defend yourself , posse up. One reason I love Sekiro is because it is punishing and unforgiving and From Software could careless if you deem it to hard. Adapt or perish.

  27. After reading all of the above I have to say thats nice but finaly the Players will do what the Players will do and I still see lots of shoot Outs on the FR map and that is good. I also tell you that I rejoin every day with a low aggression Level (I Play offensive of Course) and that it does not matteer that I shot some blue Players the night before (I always wait for the first shot before I go on Revenge mode). I think ist fair that you guys now can grind forever in a passiv mode and just hunt and collect berrys but for a lot of Players out there also the PVP ellement is important and also to be able to do PVP on a big map and not in a pleashure dome like a Modus. In the same way you argue those can argue for their right to do so as well. I dont want to grind without any risk until I achieved Level 100 I want the tension on the FR map and I want to "feel" the win when I made it to the butcher and so on. So a lot of the games tension is lost if I do it all in defensive mode as ist not really a challenge at all. Would“nt that mean consequently to ask for getting all the grind till Level 100 as a starter so you would“nt Need to skin 100 deers and collect 1000 herbs instead? You see it“s a part of the game but well I understood that you guys here see this different. One last Thing on that Topic, the passiv mode is not so much different to the effect of a cheat. It short cuts the risk and therfore the game and the experience so it takes the challenge away and as humans are that way, you will, once activated, not deactivate it again as a human always chooses the easiest way but finally this is a game and that means a lot of it lives from the challenge it gives and that is not the brainless NPC fights ist the fights with real humans as well as the hunting and crafting elelements and short cuting this takes a big part of the fun and experience away.

  34. The level 100 treasure map I got had 1.5 gold bars, plus cash in it, so yeah the multiplier is adding up, also the daily challenges if you do them everyday that adds up too, each day when I log in I get anywhere from 1 to 6 gold bars, today was 6, lately the gold is pouring in. I only spend gold on metal upgrades to my guns so it doesnt much matter whenever I get 5 I go to the gunsmith. The only things I ever used gold for otherwise was a fishing pole and the bolero hat and one other piece of clothing I needed for a uniform, but now it is just for gun upgrades.

  35. I had brought this up awhile ago too: I noticed that since I made that topic, I've exclusively used the Lancaster Repeater for my longarm and I have noticed a pretty big jump in my accuracy and fire rate. I tend to always use Express ammo (or Regular if I run out during the task at hand) and I can get headshots on NPC enemies like crazy, even from horseback. I wish it showed you better that you are improving though

  36. @lumper As previously stated, catching fish gains you "Health XP" towards your maximum health. I don't recall the exact amounts, as this was one of the 1st things I did when I started playing in November, but it's something along the lines of: +10 for small fish, +20 for medium fish and +30 for large fish. You will see an indicator on the right side of the screen, with the health icon and the amount of XP gained. If you are already at max health, then you will not see these indicators. In game, Press the Menu button and click on "Player", then click on the tab for your character, to access your character sub-menu... click either Health, Stamina or Dead Eye and go to "Progression"... It will tell you what activities you can do to increase your outer rings to their max level. Health: Fist fights, bow shots, FISHING and other physical strength related activities. Stamina: Performing strenuous activities such as sprinting or swimming. Dead Eye: Trick shots, hunting, crafting and other survivalist activities.

  39. Wow..... When I opened this thread about your long journey to lvl 100, I was expecting a much longer post in classic Lumper style. 😁 On a serious note, I would also urge new players to download the RDR2 app for their phone, tablet or other iOS / Android device. .....assuming your device is compatible. The app allows you to view the big map on your device which makes it easier to plot paths, check you waypoints, etc. You can also view the map on the device when you're fishing. .....you can't see your minimap on the screen during this activity so you're essentially blind without it. It helps when evading people, spotting "red blips" and is generally useful in that you don't have to open the main map on your screen as often which can sometimes leave you exposed. All of the icons, blips, etc. you would see on your in-game map on your main screen you will see in the app.
