  2. Guy popped defensive near me while I was hunting. He was trying to take my kills and my perfect cougar off my house. I couldn't lock on him but I hip fired a semi auto in his gut and killed him. He kept coming back trying to pull the same crap. I hate defensive for reasons like that . Just another way for players to troll. I have been attacked by more players in defensive than normal players since update. Had a lvl 335 camping the post office in Valentine with a shotgun shooting people than hiding in the post office. Pathetic. I never use it and never will. I know people that target players in defensive purposely but leave normal players alone. I feel Defensive Mode has failed. They were trying to make a hybrid of GTA passive mode I guess. Best Defensive Mode for a player IMO is situational awareness sprinkled with common sense.

  3. I agree. There are plenty of situations where some conflict could take place within the bounds of some kind of mission or event... but too many out there take things a little too far.

  4. No, I spawned into the game just outside Van Horn (solo). I had not even had time to whistle for my horse before another posse’s scout came over to me while they were nearing the end of their delivery. Then he shot me without provocation.

  5. Just so I got this straight... you were doing a delivery, which allows thievery in the game.. then a possie successful stole your delivery? But rather than steal it back, you waited until the mission was over before harassing them with explosive ammo? If I read that right, it definitely sounds like there was a griefer involved, though I’m not sure that label should be put on the possie doing some legitimate outlawing during the mission...

  6. I appreciate that defensive mode is not passive mode but I don’t believe it works quite as well as the R* blurb promised and it actually puts you at a disadvantage in some situations. For example, if you are caught by somebody who wants to start a gunfight they will likely be perfectly set up for battle whereas you may well have the wrong weapons, the wrong ability cards, not full cores and on the back foot to return fire in free aim. Obviously you need to maintain good situational awareness at all times in this game but R* went and made that harder by taking away the companion app map facility. i have absolutely zero faith in the hostility system - it’s rare to see red dots, and rarer still in my experience to be attacked by reds rather than blues. Most reds I see have just taken out some NPCs which is not at all indicative that they will turn their guns on other players. One thing they could maybe add is an alert that someone is trying to aim at you when in defensive mode, that might help a little? Press charges is a waste of time too, even more so since the update when a few dollars is nothing. Couldn’t it call lawmen out or something like when a stranger NPC reports you for acts against other NPCs? It’s still only a minor annoyance to the aggressor but makes them break off the confrontation. Or alert nearby Bounty Hunter players if they persist? I use defensive mode so I can’t be lasso’d and to advertise to others that i’m just going about my own business, I don’t put any more store in it than that and keep a watchful eye out for other players.

  7. Just yesterday I was griefed by a posse trying to deliver a wagon of goods to Van Horn. I had no intention of shooting them and when one of their scouts came over to ā€œinspectā€ me, he shot me even after I tipped my hat and told him (in game chat) that I meant them no harm. After that, I respawned and followed them to their delivery point. Once their mission was over I started tagging all four of them with explosive rounds. They got me a couple more times as I fell back to Annesberg. I finally managed to kill them all in one life then led them on a merry chase across Ambarino and New Hanover, stopping along the way on various cliffs to shoot them down as they kept following me. Eventually they all got on game chat and as usual they spoke all ghetto, Billy-badass at me as I kept killing them. The whole chase ceased when we got across the river on the east side of West Elizabeth. I took another perch on top of a cliff and kept tagging them as they tried to cross. Moral of the story: invest in explosive ammo.

  9. Well, When I’m on it’s usually just me and the Liquor... so I’m more inclined to just leave people alone unless they’re coming right at me... but if I had a few of the Liquor Snurfs with me, I just might send one out to make sure the buffer is maintained (perhaps a gun goes off, someone gets accidentally shot...). But I also wouldn’t chase someone across the map when they get their cheap revenge kills in... just seems like a waste of time to me.

  10. I mean, I was in the middle of nowhere without my horse and just had my revolvers (holstered). Not to mention the fact that there were four of them and one of me, and I was a good 200 yards from their delivery route. But to each their own. I’ll retaliate each and every time šŸ˜‰

  11. I'll never forget the Heartlands Massacre... I just wanted to pick some damn mushrooms! LOL 17 vs 6 was slightly overkill, plus they were cheesing the game too. Still salty AF over that... hah

  12. So who was it exactly that was making a delivery? The people that shot you? If that's the case, they may have misinterpreted the timing of your spawn near their delivery as someone suing an exploit rather than just dumb luck. To be honest though, I still don't see that as "griefing" but simply protecting their goods if that's the case. If I saw someone suddenly appear near me while making a delivery I would have done the same thing.

  13. They really do go too far. I make no statement that we are bad asses by no means but I can honestly tell y'all we have only lost grieve battles twice in a years time. We simply refused to give ground. The 2 we lost was to grieves that had numbers like 17 vs 4 or 12 vs 5. Most times we have enough online that if we whistle , 7 to 10 horses appear in the mist and hell comes with em. Carefull who you attack folks ! Some have massive numbers

  14. The potential for players to attack other players adds a dimension to the game, griefing adds nothing positive to the game.

  15. Oh, ok. That’s different. That’s why I ask for clarification lol.

  16. Any MMO games seem to attract the few that take their greatest pleasure in ruining someone else's day. My solution to these often involves "press charges" then "parley" as I have no intention to entertain those. You will often see me riding along and tipping the hat to random strangers. Don't let the bad eggs get to you, join a posse and have some fun or just explore on your own. I have gotten to a stage that if someone attempts to grief me, and I parley on them, I look at it as a minor momentary distraction from my longer more interesting adventure.

  17. I’m with you there, buddy. And thank you. Maybe we’ll get cross-platform play soon. That would be great.

  18. Sadly I'm on Xbox, but that's a lovely sentiment. I entirely agree with you about the game breeding mistrust of strangers. I try to tell myself that it's lending a dollop of authenticity, but I still wish, sometimes, that there were a little more faith out there.

  19. I understand where y’all are coming from. It’s a shame that the game has bred such hostility toward strangers. I guess, in a way, that’s how the real west was. I try to be in game chat as much as possible. Either to help out others or to let people know I’m not their enemy. In fact, game chat was the way I would get people to participate in duels before the spring update. It was fun getting 20 or so people to gather around on the rooftops to watch two people do a quick draw in the muddy streets of Valentine or on the dusty drag of Armadillo. I’ll just say this: if you’re on PS4 and happen to run across a posse called The Congregation or by me (xI_ENOCH_Ix), always expect a helping hand.

  20. Holy crap, you’re right. 😳 I don’t know if it was just a gameplay mechanic or not, but John ā€œinheritedā€ all of Arthur’s belongings in the epilogue. Maybe it is Arthur’s jacket that John had packed away and Jack decided to use after finding it?

  21. I can understand that reasoning, makes sense. Same here man. Like the option to be able to play with my friends on PS, on PC, and on Xbox would be great but I know it isn't something they are likely to do anytime soon.
    1 point
  22. Guess I'll have to brush up on what defensive mode is actually supposed to do, because far as I can see, it doesn't do jack. Maybe the real defensive mode is to simply avoid any places where other players are likely to be, such as towns.

  23. Well, defensive mode isn’t supposed to be invincible mode. You still have to watch your back out there.

  24. I pre-purchased it through R*'s launcher the other day. I got Bully and LA Noire free with it too. Partly due to how impressed I was with the PC version of GTAV. Also I feel I'd enjoy doing a new play through of the game. And I feel I could play better with K+M in multiplayer than using the PS4 controller.

  25. I play only in defensive mode and since people find it more difficult now to shoot at me, their latest course of action is to pull me off my horse as soon as they spot me in a town (which results in them appearing as a red dot, they don't shoot at me right away then, I guess they're waiting for me to react in some way???). I guess that's the "town version" of getting hogtied? I did think the whole hogtie-other-players nonsense was no longer possible in defensive mode but no one has tried that on me ever since the update that introduced defensive mode, so I can't say for sure...? But I can say people can still pull me off my horse, which I find incredibly annoying. Or they just shoot my horse because it's a bigger target. I just always switch sessions immediately, I can't be bothered with griefers, but it's still annoying that they can do all that despite you giving off a clear signal of "do not bother me and I will not bother you" by being in defensive mode.

  26. I recently had a rather burly cowboy hogtie me and carry me into a bedroom in the Strawberry hotel. At that point I'm begging him to just shoot me. Thankfully I cut myself free and shot him down before I was forced to destroy my game and seek counselling.

  27. There are things I don’t like about defensive mode but roaming around as a bright blue dot seems to just broadcast to most people ā€œI’m looking for trouble, let’s have itā€. By far the best thing about defensive, which makes it worth opting for, is that idiots can’t lasso you.

  28. I like what kean_1 said. Only thing I see differently is I have never used defensive mode. I'm very passive aggressive. I will not bother you and you dam well better not bother me. Hogtying me tells me your wanting to test your metal. I'm all about it son ! My best friend is dynamite arrows , I will spare no expense to show you that you picked the wrong cowboy to test yourself. Live and let live. They would pay a hefty price learning the lesson I will be teaching ! šŸ˜€

  29. I am on PlayStation. It very well may have been me I suppose. I like doing goofy random yet completely harmless things when I find other players around. It also tends to get me shot at a lot, but that’s half the fun. Sometimes I go into towns, climb the highest rooftop I can where everyone can see, and dance the prospector’s jig. Almost without fail, everybody who passes by pulls out their rifle and aims at me while they try and decide wether I’m just a drunken idiot, or the set up for some elaborate trap lol.

  30. ......which might explain why and how they were able to hogtie you. If you're not interested in messing with others or being messed with yourself, I'd turn it on. When you're in Offensive Mode, it basically broadcasts to folks that either 1) you simply forgot to put yourself back into Defensive Mode or 2) you're ok with being attacked or attacking others. While Defensive Mode doesn't make you invulnerable to attack, it gives you a big advantage against your aggressor(s).

  31. If I see people in their camp, I usually wander on in and drink a bunch of their beer, then stagger out... I probably deserve to get hot tied, but it usually doesn’t happen. What those guys did to you was kind of a di*k move, but I don’t think it’s anything worth wasting more time over.

  32. Not sure if it counts as griefing. What they get out of it... Explosive rounds to the head.

  33. Words to live by. I expect everyone I see on the map wants to shoot me. I always start my day off hunting at the Cholla cougar spawn. I always hunt one extra and throw on the back of my horse. And ride with it for the rest of the session, and then when I have a positive encounter with someone I give them the cougar. Kind of a "thanks for not being a jerk" comment.

  34. Not saying all groups are bad. BUT.....a lot have that tough guy pack mentality when they have the numbers. When solo I usually stay clear of groups , don't wave or anything. I'm like a ghost. Situational awareness is key. I'm not ex law enforcement, but I do have experience in security. I make it a habit in real life and in video games to always know what or who is around me. I don't trust anyone running towards me in this game unless you are on my friends list. lol DTA

  35. *raises hand* I am! I actually built my PC this year. The last one I had couldn't even handle DOOM on low settings. I wanted to get more into PC gaming since I started playing on my roommate's build so he helped me pick out some parts and guided me through the process. I wanted to make sure it could play RDR2 if and when it came out and thankfully, it can run it fine.

  36. I expect a delay so the main focus will be on the campaign. I don't know if there will be one or not but expecting it leaves little room for disappointment for me. I have not played the game yet so it would appeal to someone like me to have a chance to enjoy the story and not fall behind like @Kean_1 mentioned.

  37. That's really subjective. I say subjective because even though we can quantify just how much better RDO could look on PC than console, there are still those who don't notice such differences. ....or perhaps even care. ....but for those that do, it will look absolutely amazing IMO. You simply can't compare the limited performace of a console to the power and features of a good gaming PC. In case you missed it, the PC version will also include: ....so yeah, in answer to your question I would say "a lot better".
    1 point
  38. Well, in the console release they were quite clear that RDO would be a beta that was still a work in progress. I know a lot of folks made assumptions but for me, it was about what I expected from their description. I knew it would take time to evolve although I expected it progress a little faster than it did. .....but that was also an assumption on my part. ....but like you say, we have few details right now but with the release coming in just 3 weeks, I would expect to hear more about it very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if they want to delay RDO for a month or so simply so people can experience the campaign first without the anxiety of missing out on the online portion while everyone else is getting ahead.

  39. Im sure they will do the worst job possible. Unless it involves players cheating/modding money..then they will do what ever they can to 'fix' it. Alls I can say is fear the horse balls. I remember this from GTA O. Sure it suck having modders ruin games. But that video is beyond funny (OMG is sooo realistic *koff fake news) I can see it now. Modder teleports player to a barn and 50 horses just start running a train on someone. lmfao
