  1. Not if you get a headshot. Even if it's not an insta-kill headshot, as is the case sometimes with larger animals like elk and moose, as long as the animal is mortally wounded with a headshot, it's perfect pelt will be preserved when it dies from bleed out. This is the case for all rifle ammunitions except for explosive.

  2. I guess I can answer my own question now, a few weeks later. (I'm level 20 trader and collector, level 4 bounty hunter.) In short: all three roles would have been acceptable choices to pick first, really. They're all fine for solo play. I went trader, collector, bounty hunter, in that order, and for me that was the right order. The Trader role is my favorite, as I expected. It's also the most fleshed out. Not that it's particularly deep, but at least there's a process with a few different steps, and some camp upgrades to work towards. The Trade Route event is fun as well, even for a crap shot like me. (Unfortunately it seems bugged half the time where it ends before it starts - You earned 0 goods, yay.) The Collector role was fun the first few days, but it's already starting to get a bit old. It's a bit thin to keep my interest long term, I think. But it's a good secondary role - pop a collector's map to give me a few locations to visit, nice and chill, and do some hunting along the way to fill Cripps' stock, that sort of thing. The Condor Egg and especially the Salvage event are fun too. Bounty Hunter is as expected, at least the core of it, as I've not dug into it much yet. Nice if you want a bit more action, but for me it's been a once in a while, when I have nothing better to do, sort of thing. Can't see myself doing that all day. The combination of all three works quite well, though. Nicely varied, so something to do for whatever mood I'm in.

  3. I believe you're right @Madrigalianwhich was why I went with the medium(?) scope on my rifles.

  4. By balanced I meant everyone has access to the same stuff fairly easily. Not that a battle is easy to win. Sure, sh*t can go south from time to time. But the world is big, we all have the same cards, the same tonics, the same pig fat etc., we can’t just see everyone in the world at all times. And nothing is stuck behind a prohibitively expensive price tag... sure, some of the things are a little goofy and unrealistic, but as of yet it’s not even close to being as ridiculous as GTA’s offerings. But it doesn’t really matter as we’ve been told over and over again all about how your bent on hating the game until you get your private lobbies, and others are bent on hating the game until they can be 100% immune to ever having to get into a gunfight with another player... So there is simply no winning with whatever Rockstar adds or takes away in the current vision/direction of the game...

  5. I definitely would be fine with no ability cards, no explosive rounds. I don't feel they really add anything to the game. And a tonic cool down is a great idea! And. .since I'm forced to keep ability cards, at least give me the ability to name and save a loadout, and select it from the weapon wheel. I'm always shuffling cards around depending on the upcoming situation.

  6. I think even a tonic cool down would work wonders for both pvp modes and free roam pvp. But hosted lobbies with settings would have been the saving grace of pvp. Every pvp game mode is mostly high levels running around chugging tonics to bolster their ability card usage. Even free aim pvp game modes, is players chugging tonics to have constant PIB. Explosive bullets on the other hand. Not sure what to really do about that. I remember a while ago.. Doing a long delivery with a full posse. Getting instant dynamite arrowed. Our wagon is destroyed. Big explosive battle.. Eventually we grabbed the bags. But it was next to impossible for most of the time. Everyone keeps spawning in auto aim range. Even the small posse trying to jack us, turns into us having to kill them 20 times while we die 20 times and our horses keep getting exploded. The only reason why we got the bags is due to us out numbering them. That whole thing was not fun, just tedious and frustrating. Really, wish R* would do more live streams. That way trolls would give them a front row seat to how things can play out due to their lack of balance.

  7. Simple quick fix = remove all tonics and card buffs for PvP modes. Then it's a fair fight. I like my chances in free roam battles do to much bigger playground to work with. I have to be really ticked off to use explosive rounds now a days. Carcano + express always does the job on grieves. Sure we die a few times but we WILL outlast most ! 😉

  10. I feel somewhat lonely without chat going on 'in the background'. I don't care for voice chat for several reasons and I am no where near ready to group up. I just learned last night how to feed my horse lol. Will there ever be the option of typed chat in online? ty

  11. Buy the largest scope available per weapon... the only weapons that lock you into "scope" aiming mode are the rolling block and carcano... you will be able to toggle back and forth with the rest

  13. Yep. I use a small scope on my Varmint rifle. Most critters are fairly close but the scope helps to get the head shot sometimes when their partially obscured or whatever. I use the medium scope on my other rifles except for the sniper which has the long scope. The longer the scope the more accurate at range it seems to me, mostly comparing the medium scope to the long scope on the different rifles and at different ranges. But, unless you are trying to target something very far away the long scope isn't much use under normal circumstances. It's there when I need it but I rarely do.

  14. Hi Lucy and welcome to the forums.

  15. I only use the long scope on my sniper rifle. I'm not 100% certain of this but I believe when you use the long scope on a rifle you can only sight in with the scope. Meaning, on the small and medium scopes you can alternate between using the scope or not using the scope. On a rifle with a long scope you are forced to use the scope and can't sight in targets without it.

  16. Yeah, there is definitely info and a rough cut of Mexico in the game... But North Yankton (or whatever it’s called) has been in GTA this whole time. So the chances of that actually meaning something is pretty slim.

  17. You mean people who use mods online? It doesn't make a difference if they do it through a game purchased on Steam or through Rockstar, both run on the same launcher. Just keep reporting them. They are cracking down on people using mods and hacks online.

  18. Thank you very much. I love it. I have played mostly online because when I got it, the online only worked well for me. But since the patches everything is fine now. So I am yet to really go into the single player properly. I will soon

  21. Quite honestly, I never could get into the old Online. The current version is much more immersive to me. And yes, I do agree it would be a little better without ability cards and explosive ammo (or at least make explosive ammo so difficult to make you can ever really only get a small handful at a time). But I won’t go as far as to say it’s unbalanced... Just a little too over the top. Personally I’d he happy with a pocket full of plain old lead bullets and the ability to kill or be killed by a well placed shot by anyone... But I’ll take it as it is when it means I can make my customized character and carve out my own little immersive fake outlaw life in the old west.

  22. I really don't care much about private lobbies as I do for actual game balance and free aim lobbies. The Original Red Dead online version was more balanced and had more options to suit taste. R* has taken a more regressive approach when it comes to current RD O. R* put so much effort into making the game play world as realistic and immersive as possible then throws all that out the window when it comes shooting/player mechanics. Im not hating the game.. Im hating the person whos not doing their job. Which is pretty simple to do. If the old RD O had such simple options and game play choice, then there's no excuse as to why this current version doesn't get the same logic applied to it.

  23. PVP isn't balanced in the slightest. I can strut around with defensive cards and eat bullets like candies. Also the explosive rounds are a huge issue. A low level player has no chance against me, unless they use explosive rounds. If someone is doing deliveries, I know full well what im capable of. I've also been in tons of free roam battles that all degenerate into explosive rounds and dynamite arrows. Guess you should consider yourself lucky if you don't encounter many hostiles in free roam. The pvp in GTA is much more balanced, until you factor in armed vehicles, then its bonkers. RD, has a ability card/tonic issue that unbalances the pvp,. While the explosive rounds/auto aim turns into wild west sh*t show. Every big update also seems to come with game play mechanic changes. So, things might be nerfed.

  26. I use the Springfield (and Varmint) for hunting and the Bolt Action (and Lancaster) for fighting. With the Bolt Action I am using Express Rounds. With the Springfield I am using High Velocity rounds. My experience is that express rounds degrade the pelt most of the time while high velocity rounds usually preserve the quality much better. A little less damage, but a cleaner kill. I find it is much easier and faster to switch from one rifle to the other, than it is to switch ammo versions within the same rifle. (at least on the fly) With all ammo types available to cycle through, it's just faster and easier to keep the right ammo in the right weapon and switch them (the rifles) out with fewer button presses and errors. Sometimes I would accidentally land on the wrong ammo type if I am in a rush and blow the poor dear into smithereens, or worse, forget to switch the ammo back again and realize I am PVPing with the wrong ammo. Two rifles, two uses, much easier and efficient. And frankly, from my experience, they are each better suited for those roles. For me at least. YMMV.

  27. They should have something in the camp site for storing excess gold bars so you have a way of seeing how much you have if you end up over the limit. I doubt I will ever reach over 500 myself so really, not a big bother for me but for those who buy them, it can be annoying not to see your exact number.

  28. Well, first off, I’ve never used explosive ammo (other than maybe the odd stick of dynamite) and I have never had problems in free roam PVP encounters... So I’m not sure it’s really a problem... as for your GTA comparison, sure, businesses are similar (I don’t really see how else they can both be run and provide opportunities for little PVP outlaw fun), but as of now, the PVP is more balanced by miles than what can be found in GTA... a fairly low level player can actually be competitive against a several hundred level player... That may change one day, it as of now it’s the case....

  29. On top of that, most players have access to explosive ammo and dynamite arrows. I mean, I get it. It gives players a chance to be 'bad guys' and rob players. On paper it sounds great. But they at least have to put in some effort on balancing the pvp in the game, if they are going to bake it into every aspect of the game. If I was going after someones product. Its a dynamite arrow right out of the gate, and explosive rounds every time they caught up. Combined with auto aim and PIB. This is instant, 100% perfect shots. Which basically forced everyone protecting their product to use explosive ammo as defense. Tank builds are a completely different mess. I'll go out on a limb here and say R* is about to nerf that. (Even tho the main issue is the tonics). R* has had a huge problem with pvp, even since GTA O. At this point they are basically copying GTA O with their whole business/delivery. And doing the same thing when it comes to actual pvp balance. Sort of like how in GTA O grow weed and sell weed..and give you a mini van do sell the weed in. In a game filled with flying hover bikes that shoot off rockets and attack choppers you can spawn out of thin air.

  31. I was referring to the way the purchased stacks work and the quote I added from R*: Purchased Gold Bars not arriving in Red Dead Online Created December 14, 2018Updated May 23, 2019 FollowPrint Question: I bought Gold Bars in Red Dead Online, but they haven't all arrived in-game. When will I receive them? Answer: Delivery of Gold Bars in-game is limited to a total of 500 purchased Gold Bars at a time. Purchased Gold Bars are delivered as full stacks based on the amount purchased. Any amount of purchased Gold Bars over 500 will be held in reserve until there is sufficient space for all of the next stack of purchased Gold Bars to be deposited. Example: If you purchase two stacks of 350 Gold Bars at the same time, only the first stack of 350 Gold Bars will be deposited to your account, until you spend enough Gold Bars so that there is room for the next complete stack of 350 purchased Gold Bars to be deposited.

  33. Yup, I'm aware I'm not looking down while dodging trees in Annesburg while trying to shot a long gun from a horse. I have enough steering/crashing problems the way it is.

  35. I think the upgraded saddle bags only increases the amount of outfits you’re allowed to carry on the horse. I believe it starts at 3 & with the upgraded we are allowed to carry 7. Can go to a General store, Tailor or your camp & you can setup & save your custom outfits to your horse.

  37. Awesome! Enjoy. Good choice. Work those cougar spawns. Much more efficient than running wildly all over for a deer. Quick info that might help. Materials bar: a full bar equals 100 "materials" Supplies: will need to be replinished every 25 goods that are produced. Goods: it takes 100 "materials" to produce 50 "goods". Goods are produced at 1 good every 2 minutes. Resupply missions: early on it's best to actually do the mission for supplies as opposed to ordering them, as you gain big trader xp for doing them, plus you'll get some bonus materials as well. And don't forget to participate in the "trade route" free roam event. You will receive up to 18 sellable goods for a fun train ride with a bunch of other players working together to protect supplies from bandits. Oh, also, you must buy the medium delivery wagon before it will let you buy the large delivery wagon. Wagon order: hunting wagon first, then your upgraded delivery wagons.

  38. Collector is the most solo role. You can play trader solo, but you'll make a bit less money than you would if you had a teammate to help. Collector and trader pay cash. Bounty Hunter pays cash and gold, and you can participate in legendary bounty hunts. I love the trader role myself. Especially the stealing wagons part, lol. It's the most heart pounding exciting role to me. If you're new and grinding for gold and have no roles to play yet. Be sure to keep hitting up Alden missions. A 20 minute Alden mission turned in at the last 30 seconds will usually give about 44 nuggets of gold. PS, if you go trader and need wagon protection help, there are plenty here that will help. If you're Xbox I'm always down for a run.

  39. I think a cool option would be to allow traders to hire bounty hunters to escort them. Similar to the stranger missions.
