Got mine about 24 hours ago.

I've been burned by this before, playing online RPGs, and so took some care with not making a mutant freak who would haunt me for the next many months or years. On day 1 when I made my character, 'everyone' was saying you couldn't make a woman that wasn't hideous, so I accepted the challenge. My character may not be a supermodel, but she's not a monster. To use a reference only British members will understand, with the benefit of hindsight I think I unintentionally created Stacey Dooley!

Back to the original point for a moment: Shops that sell clothes now have a wardrobe/changing room that function the same as the one at camp for managing outfits. You go to the clothes hangar on the map. Doesn't actually solve the problem, but at least it saves you from a game of "Chase the Cripps" across the map. I actually think that this addition is one of the unsung heroes of the recent update.

Anyone ever get inside or on the prison island in RDO
Harlock1796 replied to Dissention's question in Questions & Answers
This has been on my 'to do' list for a while. Sounds like I shouldn't waste my time just yet. -
I had a good experience the other day. Got the assassination mission, turned out to be a member of a 4 man posse, all relatively high level (80-120), I was mid 70's at the time. The target sat tight in a ruined house, with the other posse members out as guards. I killed 3 of them, they got me once, I then managed to pick off the target. They got me again on the way out. Assassination over, I went on my way, with no sort of reprisals or hard feelings from the posse, who just let me go about my business. Full respect to those guys - its how the game should be played. I usually send a 'no hard feelings' message through xbox messenger at the end, whether I am the target or the assassin.

For fun, what's your horse's name/names?

Which of those names relates to your girlfriend? 😀 -

Condors are still giving 3 x $1.50 feathers, by the way. -

If nothing else, is aesthetically more pleasing to ride around with an unskinned animal on the back of your horse. I only cook big game meat, so am perfectly happy to sell other animals whole. -
R* Response to Carcass Sales After Update 2/28/19
Harlock1796 replied to Kean_1's topic in Red Dead Online
3 heron plumes per bird always felt too good to be true, to me. Add the meat and carcasses and you could clear 20 dollars in 6-7 minutes on a continuous loop with zero risk shuttling between the swamps on the coast just north east of St Denis and the butcher. Now, I like free money, but it kinda felt like cheating, and certainly disproportionate risk and reward vis a vis e.g. stranger missions. Balancing this stuff out is what a beta is all about. -
So they added a KILL tax and Debt Collectors
Harlock1796 replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
The way R* described it, kills during missions wouldn't count towards the bounty system, because it was effectively 'sanctioned PvP, I assume. Is that not what's happening in reality? i.e. are bounties racking up for in-mission kills? -
My 15 year old daughter found it pretty disturbing the first time she saw me skinning a deer (after the first hunting mission/tutorial) but then she is a little bit squeamish. My 12 year old son finished playing through the story mode before I did, but he's comparatively mature, and found all of the unpleasant bits (Kieran springs to mind. as does the Murfree's cave) appropriately disturbing. Then again, he watched Suicide Squad and Deadpool around a friend's house (without us knowing until afterwards), so he doesn't find very much beyond him, these days.

February 26th Update concerns & discussion
Harlock1796 replied to Makaveli's topic in Red Dead Online
Since the update I have found that the game's frame rate has dropped massively. You couldn't call it lag, exactly, but if I turn quickly the whole thing is a mess. Exacerbated on horseback. Just me? Has anyone else noticed a significant increase in npcs everywhere, with new dialogue? I wonder if the two things are connected. -
Is anyone else experiencing a severe drop in frame rate since the update?

But you do, in my experience, need to replace other tack - stirrups and saddlebags don't seem to transfer over with the saddle, inexplicably.

Should I buy a shot gun? If so which one?
Harlock1796 replied to G IR U IB's topic in Red Dead Online
This. I bought the pump as soon as I could, and have never regretted it. I've recently bought the double barreled for "hillbilly chic" purposes. Given its quick (virtually instant) fire rate for 2 barrels, and its quick reload rate, in practical terms it is about as effective as the pump action, but for straight early unlock potential, value and practicality, its hard to fault the pump. If your in a tight spot, dual wield sawn-offs are hard to beat. I have alo experimented with schofield or volcaninc right hand, sawn off left hand. if they're close, the sawn off will get them, if they're still standing, after you've pulled the trigger four times, you've still got 4 or 6 shots left to finish them off. Definitely buy a shotgun - my recommendation on pure value and functionality is the pump. -
I too have been kicked, purely for the crime of winning. It makes sense to have the option to kick a disruptive player, but it really hurts to be kicked for just playing the game. I've learned to live with it, but it still burns when it happens.

"Griefing" and "ruining players missions" are two completely different things. Just randomly riding up and killing someone (especially repeatedly) is griefing - the player doing the killing gets no reward, and the person being killed has done nothing to bring it upon themself. They are likley to lose any pelts/carcasses they had collected, and probably had no chance to defent themselves. However, once you have started a stranger mission, you have (whether you like it or not), as the game is set up at present, deliberately entered a competitive play mode. Other players are invited to attack you, and if they can meet their objective, they "win" the mission, and you "lose" the mission. I don't like griefers, but if I go and start a stranger mission in an area where there are already lots of players, I expect to be attacked. That actually is the game as written. In fact, if this is a Wild West cowboy/outlaw game (and I think it is), then waiting for other players to start a mission, such as caravan escort or mail delivery, and then attacking them, is about as legitimate part of the game as you could hope for. If you want to be an outlaw, there's your outlet right there, attack other player's missions, for which you get cash and xp rewards. Not comparable to simply killing a random fisherman or a hunter heading to the butcher, for which (other than the nominal xp for the kill) you're not rewarded at all. While I am a friendly player (currently running at max honour), and don't often mess with other players' missions, I don't understand the attitude that some people seem to have that it is their god-given right to complete their mission and get the rewards, and that someone else attacking them is being unreasonable. It's not like the npcs who are sent to stop you are a genuine threat. Even for a low level player, they're little more than a bump in the road.

Do you regret the horse you bought?
Harlock1796 replied to Major Dammidge's question in Questions & Answers
Nope, I love my horse, reverse dapple silver Nokota. That's not to say she isn't a pain in the ass, especially wandering off and then not coming when I whistle (I can actually see her, she just can't be bothered) but hey, that's horses for you. I was planning on getting that grey and white foxtrotter that I think is the one you have, but I'm no longer inclined to trade Squirrel in for anything! -
My App used to work fine, but doesn't now. I had huge problems getting it working in the first place, then I read somewhere about using it first time, and being in story mode to link it up, not online. I did that and it connected straight away, and then worked online as well. I haven;t tried repeating the process yet to see whether that will reconnect me, but it might be worth a try if you haven't yet.

What do you think of this set up? (Ability Cards)
Harlock1796 replied to Born Homicidal's question in Questions & Answers
I can see that. However, I'm a big fan of not being dead. In my experience, I'm most often dead because someone has shot me in the head. If I can be shot in the head once and still be alive, that gives me all sorts of options that wouldn't be available to me if I was dead. I'd rather not be taking the extra damage for not having a hat, but the next thing that's going to kill me is probably another headshot anyway, so who cares about the extra damage? Body shots I can kinda cope with, because a combination of those big Springfield slugs and strange medicine replenish health pretty quickly. If I'm hatless in what is becoming a protracted fire fight, I'll duck behind a rock and swap out NWO for Landons Patience, which is the only other card I have at level 3. -
What do you think of this set up? (Ability Cards)
Harlock1796 replied to Born Homicidal's question in Questions & Answers
I can't get on with Slippery Bastard, so have reverted to Slow and Steady. My settled load out is: Slow and Steady Peak Condition Strange Medicine Never Without One there is a real synergy between S&S and NWO - the first shot comes in, takes your hat off, which is the hint to go into dead eye so that the next one doesn't kill you either. For any PvP situation I tend to use a Springfield with HV ammo. That, with peak condition, is more or less guaranteed a 2 shot body kill at any range (should I miss the head for some reason) and strange medicine is feeding health back in while the first 2 incoming head shots are failing to finish me off. If I'm not using the Springfield it's probably because things have got up close, in which case I'm probably shotgunning (usually pump action, but just switched to double barrelled for style points!). Either way, its all about the high damage output, so Winning Streak has never featured in my setup - if my first 2 shots with whatever I'm holding haven't put 'em down, the plan's out of the window anyway! I can see that if you're playing a different style, with a quick repeater or dual wielded revolvers/mausers, say, WS might make more sense. Other play styles are available! -
Is PvP damage inflicted/received based on level?
Harlock1796 replied to Snipe's question in Questions & Answers
2 shots from my Springfield (I tend to use High Velocity, rather than Express) will usually kill ayone, but the occasional person does seem more robust than usual. A few ability cards reduce damage taken, and there are tonics too. Lets assume that he has maxed out health, which should be a given by lvl 88, then: 1. Never without one - reduces damage while wearing a hat, so if shots 1 and 2 hit the body, and 3 was a hatshot, youve got 2 reduced damage hits; 2. slow and steady - if after the first hit he goes into deadeye for the second one, shot 2 is being nerfed by NWO AND S&S, so maybe minimal damage; 3. if he's drunk a tonic that fortifies health, who knows what actual benefit that provides. I still don't know what effect 'range' has. Does it reduce damage over distance? Does it affect your lock-on distance? a bit of both? Am I wasting my time with HV rounds? I'm always a bit surprised if I get 2 hits with my trusty Springfield and the guy's still standing, but it does happen, and I don't think (though I might be wrong) that there is some sinister unseen damage modifier operating under the surface. Proof? Nope! -
Yep, that's what he was doing, farming a bunch of level 5-15s with VR headshots. Like I said, if that's your game plan at level 175, you need to get some more self respect. The sooner the thing is nerfed to stop that being possible, the better. Roll on 26 February.

Varmint rifle. I was in a showdown lobby with a 170+ guy yesterday. I'm level 72 and there was no-one else in there above level 45ish, with plenty in their teens. 170+ guy was spamming the varmint rifle the whole time (and winning every match). Come on, man, get some self respect 🙄 When we got to 'choose your weapon' he couldn't get above mid table. What I don't get, though, is that the planned nerf to the VM looks like making it less accurate. Wouldn't the better approach be to dial down the head shot damage (either take off the head shot bonus, or make it 2-3 head shot kills, however the damage mechanics work best)?
