Best place to find small birds?

What do y'all suggest for areas for small birds? I found a hunting challenge poster on the wall at a post office, did the first challenge (1 perfect rabbit carcass and 1 perfect squirrel carcass, then you have to mail them). That opened up the 2nd challenge which is 3 small birds, sparrow, oriole, robin.

Any tips on finding them, spotting them or decent locations? I see some from time to time but normally when I'm running on my horse I see them flying off in the distance.

In between the N and the E of New hannover is some loose rock formations near where the first camp is, if you approach on foot you'll find Bluejays, Orioles and songbirds perched on the rocks every time. From there follow the path down to the Dakota river and this time scout the rocks near the river bed on foot. You can find Sparrows, Robins, eagles, woodpeckers, and the previous birds listed above.

Bridges, even small ones; are very good locations to look also. Using your binoculars tends to cause them to take flight so use a weapon to scout them instead.

i see them a lot on the sign posts all over the map, the railings on bridges, and rocks like @Saltyballs mentioned.

I've not found this hunting poster yet,  is there a prerequisite for it?

I don't think so, I'm only on chapter 3, it was in a post office in Van Horn (not sure if that's the correct spelling, West side of the map).

In the river northwest of Annesburg, where it makes a sharp turn from North to east, there’s a bunch of large boulders in the water.  Hang out on the bank and Songbirds, Crows, Ravens, Robins, Cardinals, Sparrows, and Blue Jays will all land on the boulders.  They can be hard to see without binoculars though.

Thanks man! I remember seeing a ton of birds somewhere like this and I couldn't for the life of me remember where it was. I believe this is the spot. Going to check it out in a bit.

So I checked this post for the robins and I really can't wait to check annesburg as far as Oreos go if anybody's having a problem finding Orioles there are about 100,000 of them in new Austin LOL pretty much every flock of small birds is that, still hunting my Robin I've only seen one in the entire game! Lucky for me he was three star and after I shot him he was a good carcass...

you'll find robins along the banks of the dakota river, and in the open grasslands south of Emerald Station, all those rolling hills, just keep looking at the sky.  Robbins don't flock together like other birds, think the most i saw at once were 2 flying together.

I noticed if you put away your gun and just ride to some place quickly for some unrelated thing, every little bird in the game will make an appearance until you slow down and arm yourself then its a wasteland.

Ive been hunting a Robin for what seems like weeks, damn thing, ive never seen one.

But, the Dakota river in many locations spawns lots of birds, and the river north west of Annesburg also spawned lots of woodpeckers, and orioles and other birds, never a damn robin but lots of others.

Oh, and by the Downes place I saw mutliple red cardinals, and also by the dinosaur lady's place.

Good places for small birds for me have been at Camp Overlook (after the crew have moved out) - there's birds on the rocks by the path and around the camp site itself.

Also, the rocks around the river crossing to the north of the Beaver Hollow camp has a good assortment (including Robins).

I have been trying for 2 actual days to get a robin and have not even seen one!  I have been to 5 so called guaranteed places and nothing spawns.  Every other small bird does, but no robins.  This is getting frustrating.

Try the ford to the north of beaver hollow. I found a few small birds including a robin sitting on the rocks by the side of the river.

Use the varmint rifle with a scope - binoculars seem to scare off most birds before you get a chance to study them.

the type of bird spawn is random.  kill all the small birds you see in the various places posted above, then come back and see what spawns in.

Thanks.  After several hours and 5 in game days, I managed to get a total of 2 robins.  2 freaking robins, one good and one perfect.  I have killed a multitude of other birds, but it is ridiculous how little these birds spawn.  On top of that, it is constantly raining so nothing spawns.  This is very frustrating and I still need 2 or 3 more to meet the feathers needed for the trapper.

would be no fun if you got all on the first attempt now would it?

So, for me, I found that tiny birds tend to spawn in the location where that wolf cave is at (Around the Mufree area). If you go north or south of that river/stream you'll find birds perched on grass ledges and boulders that nestle near the water. I found robins, finches, orioles, sparrows, in story mode. Hope this helps >.o

I found those Robins. North west of Annsburg on the curve of the Kansas river south of Brandywine drop. They spawn on the rocks in the evening between 5 an 8 pm. Carry your rifle, I've ran into some day time cougars there.
