Sold Gold Earring.

So, the Gold Earring needed to complete one of the Trinkets at the fence.  I got it from the old woman in the Hills, out of her night drawer when I stole her shotgun.  Now that I have all of the other items needed to complete the trinket it appears I have either accidentally sold or lost the gold earring.  My question is, does the gold earring ever come again in random loot or somewhere else?  Or am I just SOL?

Anyone know?  Thanks!

Not entirely certain about that specific item, but I had a similar item I sold that I needed for a trinket, only to find out later I needed it.  After looking it up, I found something that said valuables like the watch I needed can be found by robbing trains (probably regular travelers on the road too, but the train has them all concentrated for a quicker score).  I'm guessing the gold earring might be available that way too, it just may take some time for it to pop up.  I had not tested it yet, as I was trying to get my honor back up to get a couple outfits, and robbing trains is not the way to do that. =P  Waiting til I get those outfits (which may never happen now that Online is out) before trying to get the rest of the items for trinkets, which the valuables are the only ones I have left.  If you do try out robbing trains and do manage to get what you're after, a report on the result here would be appreciated so myself and others would know that it can be done this way.

I tried my first solo train robbing the other night, I made the mistake of not stopping the train first and after robbing 2 cars worth of people all heck broke loose with lawmen. I want to try it again and this time stop the train first, maybe that will help, any tips?

I know after I robbed 2 cars worth of people, maybe....maybe got $50-60 worth of items then all heck broke loose and I shot my way out of it I had a $220 bounty for killing all the lawmen....so it wasn't really worth it plus my honor went down quite a bit.

I hear parking a wagon on the tracks ahead of the train forces it to stop.  You could also ride one out of town, then when it gets far enough away, kill the conductor (with something silent like the bow or a tomahawk so as not to alert the guys on the train) and take your time.  I haven't done many train robberies since the first time I waited for a train, the guy I tied up on the tracks kept escaping cuz the train took forever to come by.

If you're going for the challenge to rob 5 trains without being arrested or killed, you don't need to rob the whole train.  In the first baggage car behind the passenger cars, there is a can off corn or something like that, with nobody having a LoS on it.  Just take the one can, and leave.  It counts as robbing the train and you don't get a bounty for it since nobody even saw you. Think I had one time where I got off the train, got right back on, stole a second item from the same car, and it counted as a second train robbed.  Didn't work when i tried it again, so not sure how it happened.

But yea, I doubt they would make something like the gold earring only available from one spot, and if you sell it, you're screwed, since some of the other non-animal parts needed for the trinkets can't be sold.  Just keep playing and another should eventually drop for you.  Robbing the trains is just a possible way to speed it up.

I got stuck on this recently.

A reliable place to get the gold earring (if you can't get one from robbing/looting) is the farm near Mattock Pond.  One of the chest of drawers there has gold earrings.

I did this exact same thing, I could not get the game to generate another, I eventually went back several times to Watsons cabin I think it is, and finally one of the times it spawned.

I played three times, the first time at the fence when I was selling stuff I clicked too quickly and accidentally sold it, did the same thing to a meteorite in my first play through.

I think I read that if you lose or sell if you can get another by robbing folks on trains, eventually you should get one if you have a request for it in your list, kind of like the thimble, I never saw a thimble in my third play through but in my first. Jack asked me for one, and of course, when I was looting bodies one day I found one, I think what you get when looting bodies has a lot to do with what you need in game.

Good luck,
