The Great Griefer Thread

I don't know if it's a bug or not and if it is I don't  want them to fix it, but I've been loving how it has become semi frequent to be placed in a solo lobby after completing a mission like a bounty hunter or bootlegger mission. I ended up in a solo lobby all night last Friday and it was glorious. There was a never ending supply of animals to hunt and I could ride around the map and do what I please without worrying about some idiot taking pot shots at me as I ride past.

I thought the same thing. I like being in lobbies with others but the risk of being in a lobby with complete morons is too high now, especially on PC. Have to worry about hackers, modders, and people just cheating the game in general through known bugs.

Nowadays a lot of players getting bored. They react in killing everybody they encounter. Solo missions are almost impossible to cash. Was shot in the back yesterday when I entered the Sheriff's office in Rhodes with a bounty on my shoulder🤬 When I respawned he/she was vanished from the server!

The number of griefers/cheaters increases lately. Nowadays I mostly try to run Role missions in daily persistent Posses.

I have been amazed at the amount of times my posse and me have been griefed over the last week. Our rule now is if a player comes close to us during a mission, we shoot and kill. If a player or posse prevents us from completing our mission, we will go after them and grief them until we get tired or they leave the lobby. We are not taking anymore risk.

Players coming after you while you’re in a mission isn’t greifing - that’s playing the game and that’s why the option is there, it shows you when someone has started a mission: it is the old west and there are outlaws. Your new policy of shoot first is the absolute way to go about it, again that’s part of the game

Agreed.....

Right, wrong or indifferent, randoms interacting with you during deliveries, player bounties, etc. are simply playing the game as designed. That's not griefing.   ......indiscriminate killing and harassing of other players while not participating in those kinds of missions is.

What  happens with your Press charges messages??

Their messages?  ....not sure I follow.

Pressing charges increases the attackers bounty but this doesn't apply to missions at least where the player is forced into Offensive Mode IIRC.  I believe the bounty is 50 cents and I don't think it lasts very long at all.   For Defensive Mode players, the parlay and protections the mode provides are much more useful IMO.

You get a message "press charges".

50  cents is n't  much for an indiscriminate kill.  I expected more and a report to R* of player incidents. Your explanation is clear. Thx .

Oh, I understand now.  ....yeah, 50 cents isn't much and to be honest, I'm disappointed that they reduced the amount of time a griefer will remain "red", etc.  I think the bounties should be higher and they should stick with them for a lot longer.  If they are truly doing it for PvP action, then they shouldn't mind being a target for other players themselves.  If they are just doing it to bully others, then who cares.  .....they deserve it.

Pressing charges is pretty much worthless IMO but I would do it anyway although I rarely have opportunities to do so since I am usually able to avoid those situations.  As for reporting players, I'd suggest using the reporting feature.  There is a selection for "disruptive behavior" and that report goes to R*.  I'd imagine if they were to take any action it would be based on how many for these reports they receive about the person(s) in question and by how many.

Thx for your quick response. I will use "disruptive behavior" next time. Hope R* will follow up these reports!

I take the opportinuty to thank you for all your time and work on this forum 👍

No problem. Thanks.

I believe that was what it was called.  Either way you'll know when you see it in the list. It is obviously regarding griefing.

On PS4 I also block them just in case so they can't send msgs, follow me, etc.

The only time I’ve had interaction with a griefer was when I was on a stranger mission when I restarted my character and it was the Caravan escort, and this person WAITED until I got near the drop off point then kept sniping me with the rolling block rifle off of a hill a ways away and made me lose the mission due to the timer running out. Other than that, anyone I come across has been doing their own thing and left me alone. So I think it’s really just dependent upon the lobby. I’ve been in a total of five solo lobbies and I agree that it’s an amazing thing when you can focus on your own thing and get what you need to get done, done.

Sorry but this isn’t greifing - the missions are set up to allow this type of gameplay, it’s the old west and there are outlaws. Solo lobbies defeat the purpose of the game, the things that make it challenging and fun.

Fair point. @Mr. Bohannon I suppose my play style is more of the passive type than aggressive so I thought it would be considered griefing. 😂

I totally get what your saying, it can be frustrating for sure as I’ve had similar things happen and I’m hard headed enough that I refuse to parlay 😂.... though when I’m running a mission, especially solo, I’m always on the lookout and if someone gets too close - I shoot first. I too, consider myself more passive than aggressive though I learned a long time ago to be more aggressive when in a mission; got to have the me against the world mentality 😂😂😂( if we were on the same platform I would offer to join up and help out)

I completely agree. I’ve noticed that at least with my play style I like aim assisted sessions for solo missions so I can dispatch AI’s more effectively to complete the mission faster, unfortunately though I’ve learned fast mission times = low payout just like in GTAO.

Yes that’s true but I see it this way - I can get a lot more missions completed and earn as much, if not more, money, XP and gold than sitting and waiting for a clock to run down (A pal and I did a test and compare a while back). When the moonshiner was added I got down to probably 30 or so gold - I’m at 265 now and I’ve spent some too; I don’t do glitches - daily challenges and normal gameplay grinding ... also free roam events are fun too

Interesting. So you would recommend getting all three roles? Right now I’m just taking advantage of the free bounty hunter license.

Yes, I definitely would; right now with the lack of animals I would put the trader at the bottom of the barrel and that’s unfortunate because it’s a great way to make money when the critters are available to kill. I would definitely start the collector role because it’s a great way to make money and XP(lots of it) and the moonshiner is bugged so it’s hit or miss with it - I go some days without even messing with it because of the frustrating aspect of the bugs.

Definitely take advantage of everything R* gives you in the way of discounts and such, even if you don’t plan on starting the role - get it at the discount for when you do start.

Gotcha. I’ll be grinding for those gold bars then cause I can’t afford to throw money at R* right now. Sorry for taking the topic off the rails. 😅

No worries bro.... we don’t know if we don’t ask and there are lots of people in this community that help each other, don’t ever be afraid to ask because someone, if not several folks will give you answers and/or advice. 1 more note on gold- do the dailies and keep your streak over 28 days - you’ll be amazed how fast you build it up.

I’ve seen some YouTube videos about that. I just haven’t had the time to complete all the dailies every day cause some of them are time consuming as I’m sure y’all are WELL aware. 😂

Yes sir they can be time consuming but there is normally at least one that can be done rather quickly, try and do at least one every day to keep your streak active and it will pay off

I honestly don't mind being targeted. It is part of the game after all. The thing that makes me mad is when a player or a group of players does it constantly, like when you aren't even in missions or anything. You are just minding your own hunting and they keep targeting you. Hard to defend myself especially when I am alone and there is like 3+ people coming after me.

Agree with everything you said, I don’t mind being targeted when I’m on a mission either, I feel the same as you, it’s part of the game and makes things fun and challenging

2nd part - now that’s greifing to the highest power! The most pissed I’ve ever been was a couple weeks ago - a posse of 6, all ranked 280 or above ganged up on me for no other reason than to greif ... after I realized what was going on, I just stood still and let them kill me without fighting back... once they lost interest, I hit them with a few dynamite arrows .. killed em, horses and all ..... then I bolted across the map, 😂 didn’t hang around for them to find me, they left the server not long after ...

Since I play solo with no posse or friends I just close the game out and start it again it puts me on a different server and no problem

Yeah the solo lobby’s are awsome that’s the best time  to really grind you’re roles no worries about other players in the way

Ragedhunter11 Fortunately I cant really relate I have been playing online for a year or so and have only been targeted by grifers twice and other than that haven’t had any player try to steal or destroy my goods during deliveries or anything like that. I also play solo I’m not part of a posse and don’t play with friends

I’ve been playing online for about a year prob a little longer only been. Grifed twice. Have never hand any player attack while doing a mission or while doing deliveries atleast not yet and I usally play a lot guess I’ve just been lucky. I play solo no posse and no friends
