The Great Griefer Thread

WA doing a mission yesterday, one of the caravan escort ones and a griefer killed me and then went to town killing the npc's and horses and blowing up the caravan. When I respawned I killed the griefer who tried to come back and kill me again, by now I was annoyed and killed him again. Then to my shock he actually reported me lol, I don't mind being killed by other players but this guy was trying to wreck my game play which I wasn't going to take. If they leave me alone I leave them alone. I noticed that griefers are generally low level but you doing get the occasional higher level player griefers as well, they have no excuse to bug other players and are just as easily dispatched :)

You were griefed when you got shot fishing! FOR NO REASON!!! I was just minding my own business!!

You actually need this in the game, and secretly you love it, and it's why you keep playing.  It's that rush of the unknown, the danger of being thrown into a world of people,  where you don't know what's gonna happen. You're playing a game (RDO) that is designed to be a real world old west simulator. A world where good and bad things happen, and you have the freedom to make decisions that you want.

When the "griefer" shoots you first, you have a choice to make. you can parlay and it's over, you can leave, they leave, whatever. BUT..... usually you come back at them for revenge.  When it works out and you have sent them running back with their tail tucked, you feel great! You tell your posse and friends the story of how you taught that griefer punk a lesson. You love red dead at that point.
When it doesn't work out, and your decision not to parlay comes back to bite you, you're posting online and complaining to your friends and posse about how griefers ruin the game and demanding zero risk lobbies.
You made those decisions. As in real life those choices are part of the simulation. You live with them.

Imagine a RDO world with ZERO possibility of a confrontation with another player.
You wouldn't even pay attention to others. People might as well be trees that you ride by without giving it a second thought.  Invisible.

The fact that sometimes you have negative encounters with players is exactly why you love it when people, wave, revive your horse or show some other random act of kindness, YOU ACTUALLY NOTICE IT.  you say, wow, not everyone is bad. You gotta see the bad out there to appreciate the good.

You want that element of danger out there so when you're riding with your buddies, and you pass players, you wanna feel like, "don't mess with my squad" . You don't feel that way when riding past NPC's.and with a zero risk lobby that's exactly what you have. a bunch of NPC's with custom outfits.

so without griefers, what you have is story mode that you can change your face on. Fine,  I understand, but....I would bet good money you're gonna get bored real quick  from only having NPC's to challenge you.  Before long I bet you're gonna enter back into the normal RDO world, complete with the good, the bad and the ugly.

Griefers make you feel good when you defeat them. make you feel tough when riding with your posse, complete the good/evil dynamic of online, make the game seem dangerous like real life, give you something to focus on, give you perspective.

THANK YOU GRIEFERS!

We want Private servers. Thank you.

IMO the griefers are not the problem.  The person in charge of RD O is..  Hes the REAL griefer.    (Wonder if hes the same dumbass in charge of GTA O)

Auto aim, Player blips on Radars, Unbalanced Ability Cards,  Tonics,  Explosive Ammo/Dynamite Arrows when combined with HOSTILE interactions between players is the issue.

The game is backwards.. and has been since day one.  In terms of pvp, this game is a joke.

I don't mind getting killed by players.  But even my dog could roll over my controller while sleeping and magically get a kill on a player.  Meaning any idiot can kill anyone..

All pvp encounters turn into tonic chugging, ability cards spamming, explosive ammo auto aim fests.  And that is R* fault..

Exactly. All these childish "extras" simply ruins the games autencity, makes it into a kind of western-on-acids game for psycopats. Just like rockstar intended

Any unwarranted attack on me constitutes griefing.

Fortunately, you can both report them to Rockstar and block them on PSN right from inside the game.

For right now, these are the only official things you can do to possibly avoid these griefing characters.

....no joke.  Full circle man.

I find it amusing. We keep having this same conversation and it always goes the same way... There is a griefing problem... No there isn’t... anyone who dares Attack another player is a griefer... but the game allows this or that... but I don’t want that... insert a big list of options to protect yourself... But I shouldn’t have to protect myself... discussion added to griefer thread to die for a few mor weeks.

PS: I know I recently gave @Netnow66 a bit of a hard time... but I think the discussions are usually pretty civilized around here, disagreements or not...

They are civil for the most part which is more than we can say for some other forums or social media sites, right?

I respect @Netnow66 and appreciate his desire for more passive options beyond what R* has provided. We just don't agree on some things.

R* never said they never would introduce separate lobbies so perhaps one day we will see free-aim / hardcore sessions, private / invite- only, etc.

I think the different lobby options are a ways off, if they ever come. As it is, Rockstar is being (painfully) slow with what they add to the game... I think this is deliberate (if frustrating). I think maybe they learned some lessons from their efforts in GTA and want to be a little more careful and deliberate in how they shape and grow RDR. This can be a good thing in the long game, if annoying in the short term (between updates). I can be patient for the content updates myself if it means in two years time I’m not being dive bombed by flying, dynamite shitting unicorns while trying to make my delivery (or maybe herding my cattle to the market?) because of poorly thought out, hastily added and unbalancing content...  But this is all speculation on my part based on observations so far and nothing else...

My characters are true western types, seasoned guys. No [REMOVED] hairstyles, have a beard and/or a moustache, authentic western-style clothing. Wery unlike those posers dressed up in medival costumes with fancy hats shooting or throwing dynamite at everything that moves.

Different servers for authentic players & brats would solve a lot but from rockstar? Not likely

No problem and no offense taken. I've already been over most of what you had said with Kean way back when.

Bottom line, the two "sides" are here and will not go away. When the subject of griefing gets brought up, the discussion is supposed to take place, as far as I'm concerned.

And, though I play much less now, as long as I can glitch the game, I'll play it.

It is deliberate.  R* went over their reasoning for the slow release of new content in a relatively recent interview:

https://www.vg247.com/2019/09/27/red-dead-online-future-heists-villain-lawmen-business/

There is zero chance in my mind of RDO ever becoming anything so over the top as some of the things you describe using GTAO as an example.  .....at least if we go by R*'s vision they have laid out for us.  if you haven't read it already, that article provides some interesting insight and (for me) some reassurances that they will be taking RDO in the direction I would like it to go.

Just got ganked.. Transported and then explosions. I have a massive bounty and high hostility. I didn't even fire a shot.  This is getting ridiculous. R*  has nothing to say on the matter. Won't even respond to reports. I think I am done.

Just the other day, I had a griefer hit me with a fire weapon while I was fishing.  I think he was surprised he didn’t get an instant kill.  I ran behind a rock and juiced up.  He was on a high bridge and as I started working towards him on foot he blasted my horse with the fire weapon and killed it, the cowardly punk then jumped off the server.  I don’t know how someone can enjoy grieving while being a total coward.

I think rockstar should up the fine for horse killing to $100 or $200 dollars to discourage the Griefers from using explosives or fire and to discourage intentional horse killing.

So what happens if you get targeted by a full posse of players and you end up using explosive ammo/arrows against them... and end up killing their horses?  Do you wanna pay $14000?

Thing is R* should not have allowed explosive ammo or arrows in game in the 1st place.

Also private servers should exist..

I killed someone's horse yesterday. If they're going to be a douchebag and come after me when I'm clearly trying to avoid them because I have better things to do than waste time and ammo in an endless shootout, then they're horse is fair game! Btw, have they nerfed explosive ammo? It used to be a guaranteed one hit kill regardless of how tanky the other player was. Now it often takes 2 shots.🤬

I hate the cowards who blast your horse on purpose and run, parlay or leave the server - especially when they are the ones who start it, when I’m trying to do dailies, minding my business, etc. Another thing I hate is that when I do kill them, I end up with a pretty hefty bounty after it’s all said and done. In my opinion the player defending themselves should not be popped with a bounty and the Griefers should stay red for at least an hour real time as well as be seen on the map no matter where they are.

I have come to the conclusion that if someone is following or getting too close and they don't say they are being passive, I just shoot them or their horse. Worse case, it was a passive minded player and I apologize. I don't like people rolling up on me in the game that I don't know because many times, I have been shot dead with no warning.

My brother and I ran into a horse killer recently.  The dude showed up and waved at us.  While my brother was putting a carcass on his horse, the guy blew up his horse.  Didn’t attack either of us and fled.  I followed and finally caught up.  He killed me once, but I ended up getting him.

Second idiot was a guy who attacked me right when I got done with the butcher.m at Valentine.  When I went back to get him...he logged off.  Running into too many idiots lately.

I am totally fine with the way they have horse killing right now. If you wanna take your horse into battle, it's your "loss" (even though I have to pay for it...) Having your horse get shot is a minor inconvenience. They pay the vet fees, and it's a 2 minute timer. If you don't want to run the risk of losing your horse, make sure to flee it before things heat up. Simple as that.

And, no, I don't purposefully kill player horses. (Unless they are being a jackass, then their horse is fair game).

I tend to take things like griefers in stride. If they wanna try and piss me off, they're welcome to. I think they'd find it harder to get rid of me than to annoy me. I tend to chase them across the map. I've actually had griefers pull their guns on me first and I still manage to get them, and then proceed to harass and kill them till they parley.

I was a "griefer" for the last  3 weeks bcoz i was so bored of the game and wanted to have some fun. Sorry if you were one of my victims. I usually tormented my victims with lasso, hammer, setting them on fire with moonshine stuff like that. It made me laugh but i stopped bcoz it gets boring fast and my concious got to me (im actually a good guy :P).

A week  ago i went on to a train to do a shoot 5 birds from a train daily and it was still night so i decided to wait in a train cart for the day to set drinking beer while at it. After a while i was gunned down by a rank 220 with a rolling block. He got on the train and stood on a roof of the last train cart thus giving him the angle to get me while inside the first cart. Ofc i got pissed and challenged him to a shootout and......... He accepted !!!! Yay (most of the ppl dont accept). We ended up fighting in Saint Denis and we both used dual Mausers so it was more balanced. He got me once bcoz i was changing my card layout (still dont have cards layouts to use from the weel.....thanks R*) but when i got back on i destroyed his ass 4 to 1 (the Mauser card layout i use can only be countered by the same one or another one that i will not reveal). I killed him one more time after the timer went out just to piss him off. He changed server and msg me with insults..... typical.              That was fun for me not griefing.

Oh and if you read me here on forum (i forgot your gamertag) next time you want to kill me with dyna arrow aim better. Hit me twice with a bolt action , missed, hit me with dyna arrow - killed only the horse and got killed by me 4 times. Keep it up.

Lol..

A few weeks ago.. I decided to be a griefer.. I sucked at it.

I Robbed a lvl 50 of his post office delivery mission.  At the end , when im supposed to turn it in, I stopped and dropped it.

I was in the process of telling the player that 'he can have it' and he killed me.  So I had to start killing him back, then I hog tied him.  I quickly sent him a PM while he was hog tied, telling him. "You can the have the bag, but don't shoot me"

He then runs up to me, stops, does an emote and shoots me.  Now, I now full well that its easy for a new player to shoot while doing a emote.

He instantly msgs me 'SORRY was trying to do an emote"...  lol

After he delivered the bag, he invited me to his posse.  And I watched his back for while....

So ya, I suck at being a griefer.  I end up becoming friends with my intended victims.

Every player on my friends list spawned from a griefing encounter - kinda like you did there though, it’s all about the actual type of player each person is .... there are those grief just to be A-holes (grief and run or drop the server, posse of 5 and they see a lone player, etc) and those are the ones we all hate. After all this is a game set in the old west and it’s set up for each of us to ambush a mission; I am on my toes and will shoot first, ask questions second 😂. On the flip side I’ve been too close to someone’s mission before without knowing and they popped me, I didn’t care and would have done the same - to me that’s what makes the game fun and also why I don’t see any need for a private lobby, as there is no real challenge or threat; just my .02

I can think of many reasons..     Funny thing is, a lot of those reasons do involve pvp.

I mean, maybe someone wants to host a full game of players having a fist only battle royal on top of a mountain.    Problem with public only is that what ever you want to do can instantly be changed by the actions of one player.

Kind of like having a car meet in public in GTA O.  If an asshole sees it, its sticky bomb city.
