The beauty of living in a fairly large city is that Gamestop will reopen at 23:30.  Everyone who wants to pick up their copy at midnight has to get there before 23:50, pay in full, and line up in front of the store, so they can send in five at a time.  You show them your receipt, they hand you your copy of the game, and you're out the door.

I've seen them hand out over 300 copies of a game this way and be done by 00:05.  It's a good system, and the best part is, I live three blocks away from the store, so I can be playing by 00:30.  I've already taken the next day off of work, so it'll be on like Donkey Kong!

Same here man, I am not moving off the sofa until Monday, in which case I may or may not have a bad case of the flu! I see a lot of takeout in my future that weekend! But seriously, yeah I will be grabbing it at midnight and since I live a 5 minute drive from a Gamestop myself, it won't be long until I am home and playing.

On October 26th, I'll have an infant in the house. Sleepless nights. I can't really say what state of mind I'll be in that day. But my plan is to put in as much time as I can and still maintain my sanity.

I definitely respect that dude.  Was there about 16 years ago....now she plays with me online, so hopefully when he/she is old enough you will get to roam the wild west with them.  Maybe in RDR 3 OR 4? Congrats and best of luck with the new one!

Thanks! Our second. A girl. Im starting to influence our boy little by little. He’s 4 so a little young for video games but I’m pushing the classic cartoons. He-Man and such. In a couple years, I’ll break out the NES and we’ll start on some Mario.

In 16 years, it better be RDR5!

The irony is, I was in that position when RDR came out back in 2010; my son was about a month old when it came out, and he wouldn't sleep unless someone was holding him.

So I did what any self-respecting gamer would do: I grabbed the boppy and propped him up on my lap at an angle, dropped the volume to the lowest setting where I could still hear it, and would play for 4-6 hours at night while my wife slept.  It was a great system--he slept like a champ, and on nights when I didn't game, I'd binge watch The Office, How I Met Your Mother,  or one of any number of shows.

Good luck to you, you'll need it.  Don't be afraid to ask for help, especially during those first six months.

Might have to do an all nighter, can't wait to roam around the world and learn it, will lose track of time after all the fun that I will be having.

Plus it get's released on a friday so that's bonus.

I live in a large city but I'm a tad lazy so I've never gone to pick up a game at midnight even though I'm sure I could find one close by, I remember when a guy got stabbed waiting to buy a copy of GTA IV and 5 years later some other dude went to the midnight launch of GTA V near my college after which he was stabbed and had his copy of GTA V stolen.

Both men survived but it's crazy the level of violence some people deem as necessary to rob someone.

I'm just gonna buy digital and predownload it, I run enough risks with people like that as it is.

Been there and done that.  Quite frankly, I don't know how I survived the first few months or year and I was already into my 40s which didn't help.  ....got progressively back to a normal state after about 2-3 years.   It's much better when they can communicate, tell you where it hurts, follow directions, etc.  ....a lot more fun too.

I think I stopped gaming for the first few months after my son's birth and even cut cable TV once I realized we hadn't watched it literally for 3 months (stuck with Netflix and Prime).

As Creed said, don't be afraid to ask for help.  I actually semi-retired over a year ago just as a quality of life decision.  I drop off /pick up my son from elementary school, help him with his homework, etc., etc.  It was a great move for us and my boy is so much happier and less stressed than when we both had full time careers.    After 30 years in tech, I got tired of the corporate grind anyhow (my wife still enjoys it).  I have some welding projects I'll be starting once the weather cools down so that will help keep me sane and maybe even help make a little scratch on the side.

I hope it all goes well.  If you have family that can help you guys take breaks, that will make a world of difference.  .....trust me.

That's the ticket right there.  I stopped buying from B&M stores long ago.  If I want a physical copy, I have it delivered (Amazon) but nearly all purchases I make now are digital.

Same, if I want a physical copy I use Amazon.

I love B&M dude but I've never bought games from there, I don't have any B&M stores where I live but when I travel outta London I frequent them for all kinds of food, drinks and crap.

Sorry about that.  I meant "brick & mortar" stores vs. online retail.  I didn't realize B&M was a retailer in the UK until I just looked it up after your reply.

LOOOOL I was thinking to myself when replying, no way is this guy familiar with B&M but I thought hey what else could he be talking about.

But yeah, over here B&M is a store for all things cheap.

😁  Yeah, I worked for a large tech company for 30 years and I guess you just get used to common acronyms used in the business.  I actually laughed when I looked it up.  .....ooops.  Never assume, eh?

I am guessing I will last about 5 or 6 hours before I need to take a break and get some food and get some things done. I will have time off work for the few first days the game is out so I am happy about that.

I'm planning on having my gf deliver me food and hand feed it to me, maybe even chewing it first so the act of eating in real life doesn't distract me too much from eating in RDR2.

Just have her blend it all and wear one of them hats with the straws coming out. Or if you want to be hardcore, IV your food. You'll be unstoppable.

I actually plan on getting food before I start, smash some things while I wait for the installation/download. Have some liquid food on hand too, smoothies and shakes.

It sounds like we're joking here but this is a real conversation with constructive suggestions. I particularly like the IV idea - maybe I could also get some kind of astronaut urination pipe device so I can urinate while at my desk.

Anyway, the game will be launched in my timezone at 9pm on the 25th so it looks like I'll be pulling an all-nighter.

Hell yeah, man. I plan on playing the second I can which is looking like it will be right at midnight. I'll have to make sure. Either way, I will be playing into the morning hours.

2 or 3 hours.

I am sure I will love the game but I can't sit still too long or my joints lock up on me. I sound like an old man but I run into this issue all the time working at a computer. I have to make sure I stand up and move around every hour or so otherwise my knees are in horrific pain. I think this is from when I played hockey when I was younger and like a dummy, let me knees slam on the ice a good 10 times without padding.

I understand you perfectly, with a baby at home everything is much harder  😬 .  I remember when a had mine, the best time was when he was one-two months, he slept 6 hours in a row; that is the best I've had so far :).

BTW congratulations,

Baby’s here :)

1st off Congrats!

2nd  I remember when my son was born.  He was put in the NICU from difficulties at birth, so they had us wake him up every three hours to feed him.  Part of that was to train us as well as him.  After a week of this, we take him home and he never could sleep more then a few hours at a time.  Which meant we didn't get to sleep unless he did.  Gaming took a hit, till we could get him re-trained for normal life, which took months.
