This is old ground, but for me, it's intent/motivation. Griefers are doing what they do purely (or at least mainly) to get pleasure out of causing someone else misery (or 'grief', if you will), with no significant in game advantage to themself. Compare this to attacking someone else's trader long delivery wagon (see the other long thread on this), whereby, if successful, the attacker gets to steal some of the materials for themself, and the trader has been expressly warned that they are taking a risk. Hopefully any outlaw/villain role will follow that model of only/mainly targeting players who are flagged as 'up for it'. I personally would rather be robbed by someone who's doing it because it's their actual job, than shot in the head on the way to the butcher by someone just because they can/are bored/hope to upset me. I suspect a big element of the role will be PvE in any event, like bounties (and to a certain extent trader) already are.3 points

I’m thinking they’ll be sticking to roughly quarterly major updates based on the trend so far, but who really knows?2 points

We had a spring update and summer update. Lets hope for a fall and winter update. Crossing fingers.1 point

But... the thieves and bullies are the whole reason long deliveries pay more.... It’s almost like you are cheating to gain more without the risk when you deliberately glitch the system to make the long delivery unopposed... I firmly believe stealing a long delivery is not at all griefing. It’s just playing the game. (Maybe a little bullyish, but outlaws are kind of bully’s...) I should also add that (at least at this point in time) most opposition is close to balanced after the first few levels (unlike GTA with all the ridiculous contraptions). A level 50 player can easily hold off a level 200+ player. Unless maybe one or the other is deliberately cheating...1 point

Here's a bit more on the topic of Defensive Mode from R*. Some of it has been covered by @Freakshow9191. Defensive mode has been tweaked along the way and likely will be in the future but this along with Freak's post cover the major points about it: As outlined in an earlier post previewing some of today’s additions, this update brings the option to choose how you interact with players inside the world of Red Dead Online, via Offensive and Defensive playing styles in the Player Menu. The Offensive playing style is set as the default and is how most players traditionally interact in Free Roam – free to engage in hostile contact with other players if you are prepared to accept the potential consequences. The Defensive playing style is for those players who would rather explore the world in Free Roam than engage in conflict with others – and it’s designed to let other players know that you don’t want to tangle with them, as well as minimize opportunities for griefing. At the same time, Defensive players will not be alerted to PvP Free Roam missions and can not be pulled into them while in Defensive mode, allowing them to go about their business as freely as possible. Players in Defensive mode will be indicated by a shield icon, will take reduced damage from enemy players, cannot be lassoed, melee attacked, executed or targeted with auto-aim. Defensive players will also be excluded from being targeted in PvP-related missions such as Player Assassination. Those who attack Defensive players receive hefty penalties via the Hostility system, while players who initiate conflict while in Defensive mode will be instantly pulled out of Defensive mode and also receive similar Hostility penalties. Today’s updates also build on the player radar and visibility improvements introduced in February to create a smarter and more responsive approach to mitigating griefing behavior. The Hostility System tracks aggressive behavior across both Playing Styles, making hostile players visible to others and helping to balance the needs of players who want to get away from others who habitually attack or kill during unstructured Free Roam gameplay. As before, player blips change color - beginning dark blue and transitioning to red as their hostile play persists. A bright red blip indicates an enemy. With today’s update, players will never receive Hostility or Bounty increases for defending themselves against a player who is blipped as an enemy, or for killing high Hostility players. If a player attacks another player, they will not be marked as an enemy to everyone - but rather to the attacked player only, who will not receive a penalty for firing back. You can view your current Hostility level through the Player Menu. As you become more hostile, you become more visible on other player’s radars at longer distances and will respawn further and further away from your point of death – at the highest level of Hostility, you will respawn in a different region. Hostility increases do not apply within structured events such as Free Roam Events, Free Roam Missions, Showdowns and Races. Engaging in PvP behaviors related to Free Roam missions will not incur Hostility increases while in the Offensive playing style, however attacking other players not engaged in the activity will cause your Hostility level to rise.1 point

Defensive: gives you, Low visibility on map Something like an 80% damage reduction. We tested it and my character took several shots to the face before dieing. People can't auto aim you or your horse. You can't auto aim on others either, unless, they damage you first. Then you can auto aim on them, but they still can't on you. Just make sure they strike you first. It will kick you out of defensive on missions that other players can steal. You will not see rival player missions you can steal while in defensive. PS: you can remain in defensive mode during a local delivery, just not a distant one.1 point

I don't miss the free roam pvp dailies as they were misused as cover for griefing. There are still plenty of PvP dailies that crop up, either for FREs or showdowns which is where they belong. The other day 3 or 4 of the challenges were player killing if you want that sort of thing. Not sure where the challenge ever was in doing them in Free Roam to unsuspecting players anyway? Back on topic, I rarely do trader deliveries these days but the last distant one I did was on a posse-only server.1 point

I may be wrong but I think the effect on health core is secondary. The primary effect of the poison is to rob you of a portion of the outer health bar. The core then obviously restores that health and if the core isn't gold it will diminish slightly in that process. If you have a very weak core and don't replenish it then the poison could ultimately kill you when the outer ring depletes.1 point

It was either updating my AMD graphics driver or switching to Vulkan from DX12. I made both changes after closing out once, so couldn't say if it was one, the other, or a combination of the two.1 point

Later in the game a mission will open up a new option to fence your stolen horses, and that pays a bit more than stables. Also, you get more for horses you bonded with. But even then, stealing horses doesn't exactly make you rich, mostly a bit of cash on the side if you happen to end up with a horse without papers.1 point

Not high enough level to fish. Money problems got solved. A friend helped me hunt and make deliveries as Trader.1 point

It is a picture of a red screw. I am not very creative. As my sister once said, I am creatively challenged and could mess up painting a room solid white.1 point

Its not Villain roles we need.. Its criminal roles. Like some said with robberies and such. Villains are kind of subjective.1 point

Nah, no gold reward... allow them to pay off the NPC bounty hunters, but keep a player bounty intact until it’s successfully collected (NPCs won’t bother them, but players still can). It would represent them being such a badass that only the elite bounty hunters (the players) would dream of going after them... but the NPC bounty hunters will leave them be to do their best hint in their he mean time...1 point

Interesting. So they did change something from the first game to the second. I really liked how it handled either way. I guess I will see how it works on PC in just 6 days!1 point

The Chinese were dabbling in crude forms of rocketry about a thousand years ago and they've existed in some form or another throughout history. Either way, he made the reference as a joke. I wouldn't mind seeing cannon / artillery though from fixed positions.1 point

Well, maybe not rocket launchers... but rockets as an artillery piece have been in use in warfare long before RDR2 timeline... check out the Congreve Rocket, developed somewhere around 1804 for an example... oh, and this was written in 1814 I believe, I doubt that hey would have mentioned rockets if they weren’t used in the bombardment... Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?1 point

I haven't heard anything. I think these's deals are more just so RockStar Games can pull as many people to their launcher as possible. Hopefully, RockStar will give Steam user's some free perks as well.1 point

I think a cool option would be to allow traders to hire bounty hunters to escort them. Similar to the stranger missions.1 point
