  1. No problem.... I would also suggest browsing through that menu and anything you don't understand, just let us know and we'll be happy to help. There are a lot of folks here willing to help get you started in RDO and to try and make your experience as smooth as possible. I would also really consider joining other players through our Posse Recruitment forum. It really helps to be in the game world having someone answer you questions over voice chat and showing you around when you're first getting started. Even if it's with a friend that know just as much as you, it's fun to discover and figure out things together. Just remember that Defensive Mode isn't a passive feature. You can still be killed, but it does give you advantages you otherwise would not have.
  2. Defensive Mode is in your Free Roam mennu you can bring up using the left D-Pad on PS4 IIRC. Scroll down to Online Options and then select Playing Style either Offensive or Defensive. As for whether a mission allows it, if you are in Defensive Mode, you will receive a warning before accepting a mission that you will be switched into Offensive Mode if you accept. If you are already in Offensive Mode (which is default when you started playing RDO), you will not receive the msg. You can also visit this menu at any time to check what mode you are currently in and your current hostility level. As outlined in an earlier post previewing some of today’s additions, this update brings the option to choose how you interact with players inside the world of Red Dead Online, via Offensive and Defensive playing styles in the Player Menu. The Offensive playing style is set as the default and is how most players traditionally interact in Free Roam – free to engage in hostile contact with other players if you are prepared to accept the potential consequences. The Defensive playing style is for those players who would rather explore the world in Free Roam than engage in conflict with others – and it’s designed to let other players know that you don’t want to tangle with them, as well as minimize opportunities for griefing. At the same time, Defensive players will not be alerted to PvP Free Roam missions and can not be pulled into them while in Defensive mode, allowing them to go about their business as freely as possible. Players in Defensive mode will be indicated by a shield icon, will take reduced damage from enemy players, cannot be lassoed, melee attacked, executed or targeted with auto-aim. Defensive players will also be excluded from being targeted in PvP-related missions such as Player Assassination. Those who attack Defensive players receive hefty penalties via the Hostility system, while players who initiate conflict while in Defensive mode will be instantly pulled out of Defensive mode and also receive similar Hostility penalties. Today’s updates also build on the player radar and visibility improvements introduced in February to create a smarter and more responsive approach to mitigating griefing behavior. The Hostility System tracks aggressive behavior across both Playing Styles, making hostile players visible to others and helping to balance the needs of players who want to get away from others who habitually attack or kill during unstructured Free Roam gameplay. As before, player blips change color - beginning dark blue and transitioning to red as their hostile play persists. A bright red blip indicates an enemy. With today’s update, players will never receive Hostility or Bounty increases for defending themselves against a player who is blipped as an enemy, or for killing high Hostility players. If a player attacks another player, they will not be marked as an enemy to everyone - but rather to the attacked player only, who will not receive a penalty for firing back. You can view your current Hostility level through the Player Menu. As you become more hostile, you become more visible on other player’s radars at longer distances and will respawn further and further away from your point of death – at the highest level of Hostility, you will respawn in a different region. Hostility increases do not apply within structured events such as Free Roam Events, Free Roam Missions, Showdowns and Races. Engaging in PvP behaviors related to Free Roam missions will not incur Hostility increases while in the Offensive playing style, however attacking other players not engaged in the activity will cause your Hostility level to rise.
  3. As freak mentioned, stick with missions that allow you to remain in Defensive Mode. Don't expose yourself unnecessarily like that in missions that invite other players to attack you. ......or if you still want to, find a posse to play with in our Posse Recruitment forum. You'll have the added protections you'll need to tackle these kinds of missions while also learning new tips and tricks from those with more experience.

  5. They neutered the companion app a few updates ago. The most useful feature was being able to see your own blip and others on the large map that you could zoom in & out. I used to use it extensively prior to that and then uninstalled it immediately after they took out what was essentially the only reason I found it useful.

  8. I'm not having the problem either but that's really odd. If it persists, we can ask the Admin to see if he can figure it out. .....unless someone else has any ideas?
  9. Moving this to Off-Topic.
  10. I'd submit a trouble ticket explaining your problem and what you lost. Also might asked than about the saves. If anything, they might compensate you. ....it's not unheard of for them to do this. I would also expect that once they get problems ironed out they might provide bonuses / gifts to PC players for their troubles.
  11. Lol... Yeah, that's me....one in the same.
  12. Oh no you didn't just bring up GRB..... Seriously, don't even get me started. The loot system doesn't even scratch the surface of what is wrong with that game IMO. They were on the right track with Wildland's and even with all of the great feedback, ideas, suggestions many of us made on their own official forums, they still decided to try and reinvent the wheel with components no one asked for nor wanted. It's hilarious now that they come back to the community asking for feedback now that GRB is a failure. Several of us have told them to go back and read the GRW forums. .....all the answers are there. On a side note, their new community manager joined not long ago. They are currently playing GRW to gain some perspective. ......they never played the game before.
  13. That's because of his hardware being admittedly "ancient" (his own words). .....that's not the game's fault, right? Seems some simply can't be happy that others have found solutions and/or have been helped by the updates so far.
  14. I'm guessing the feathers were obtained via an exploit and then donated to their camps which R* was able to trace. .....seemingly for the purpose of getting the OPs banned.
  15. Please don't double post. Refer to your original thread I have moved to the PC forum here: A couple of us have already responded.
  16. Yeah, I'm not saying you were flaming (which in itself is fine btw even if you were) but simply don't see any evidence they would do it. However, they did say in an interview I recall that they didn't have an interest in introducing such a thing but haven't ruled it out. Even if they did, I would expect that they have fully digested what has been going on. I just don't see R* making a mistake implementing something they know others have caught so much flak for. If they did, I would imagine it would be from a different angle at least. R*s MTX models are one of the few that i actually like.
  17. As I recall, you struggled in RDO in the beginning. .....a lot. More than many around here if I'm going to be honest. Almost giving up the game a couple times in fact. A lot of us tried providing advice and over time, you started coming around. IIRC, that was due in part to following some of the suggestions folks provided and eventually, the changes that R* made to the game and the fact that you stuck with it. You got over your hurdles and have done a complete 180 which is great. However, what I never agreed with was the take on some of the griefing issues, etc. being so much worse in those days as I felt a lot was simply due to the way people were exposing themselves to trolls. The fact is, some of the problems were not that difficult to mitigate which is what some of us were trying to drive home for those having issues. .....joining a posse, spawning in several states from your destination, using the app to spot other players, etc. There's no doubt the new tools, revisions of existing ones, penalties and such have greatly helped, but there were always effective ways to help people avoid the griefing problem and some of them still work really well today. ....and it really has little to do with being kitted out or leveled up IMO.
  18. ....nor do I expect we would. We don't have them in GTAO either, right? Just Shark Cards for in-game cash and GBs. ......all of which can already be obtained through playing the game / grinding, occasional bonuses / gifts, etc.
  19. I would read the discussions in the Pc sub forum that I am moving this thread to. See if there are any solutions provided by other player that may help your friend. Also, I would tell him to be persistent with R*. Try the suggestions they provide but be sure to report back to them on the trouble ticket when they don't work. They are working on several issues right now and have been releasing hotfixes that have helped some but not others. I would stay tuned here as we tend to post up any new news that comes our way on updates, etc. I'd also recommend checking the stickies.
  20. Thats the right site. I would keep sending responses each day asking for an update if they haven't responded at all.
  21. Be persistent with your trouble ticket. Also, are you sure you went through their Support page and not the Feedback site? ......just asking because they will not respond via the latter. It is only meant as a suggestion box of sorts.

Nothing that would be convenient to my knowledge. In the rare instances I've crashed I don't recall losing anything really important especially on my character. ......maybe my horse (a few pelts or the like).
