  1. Easy folks..... I only mentioned the age of the thread as an FYI to @lumper as he was directly replying to the OPs 6 month old post. I didn't know if he realized the age as sometimes that can happen (folks don't notice the dates when a thread is bumped). I I'm not busting anyone's balls let alone yours @Vaderspupil for resurrecting this thread to ask your question. ......otherwise I would have mentioned it when I answered the first time. Either way, it's not a big deal nor did I intend to make it one. I guess I could have been more specific, sorry.
  2. As Lumper mentioned, the official Android / iOS app is really helpful especially since you can still view the map while fishing (you can't see the minimap in the game during this activity). You can also zoom in and out so it's easier to navigate on the fly, view terrain while on the move, get an exact location of where players are that appear on the edge of your minimap, etc. Also, when you join a new session, choose a region that is at a least a couple states away from where you want to go. The game tends to spawn players into areas where most others are. Traveling away from your spawn point will help reduce the chances of running into others while you fish, hunt, harvest, play side missions, etc. Posse up..... There are a lot of good folks in these forums. Mingle and find a friend, two or a whole group that's willing to let you play with them. Find the right people and they can help make your experience easier and more fun. It's always nice to have someone to ride along with that can watch your back and increase your chances of success. Remember, Defensive Mode is a tool much like ability cards. Used right and it can help mitigate the chances of being griefed. Use it like a passive mode, and you will be sorely disappointed. Don't put yourself in the position where you can be shot in the back. When visiting merchants, keep an eye on where players are around you Beyond all this, the most important factor IMO/IME to helping make your experience as "grief-free" as possible is through your own choices and actions. .....your playstyle. You have to treat all randoms players as potential threats, don't get complacent and try to avoid situations that make you vulnerable. Don't ride into a town full of players without a plan. Keep an eye on their actions and locations, don;t loiter and get in & out. ....or simply go elsewhere to sell/buy your goods. Personally, I've never really had a huge issue with griefing even during the early days of the beta simply because of the way I play. .....but much less so after the implementation of the the proximity / hostility changes and now with the new Defensive Mode. Over time, you can even begin to identify certain patterns and/or behavior to watch out for in randoms that can help you gauge their intent. ....although that is never a guarantee so again, good situational awareness and caution is always advised. I can't speak for others but My friend(s) and I have been having a blast lately with little to no issue with griefers.
  3. fyi... This thread is about 6 months old and DLKnives hasn't visit for 3 of those.
  4. Nope. What they said was that those with high hostility would have a higher probability of being chosen as the target. Quite honestly though, I was beginning to think they got rid of those missions as I hadn't seen one pop up in a long time. ....and I've been doing quite a few side missions.
  5. I was thinking the same thing....
  6. Hi and welcome to the forums. My suggestion would be to never message someone or speak to them through chat with vulgarity, insults, etc. regardless of what leads to the exchange, if they report you, MS or R* have to act on the evidence they have. ......and being griefed is never an excuse for breaking the rules. You say you couldn't leave but actually you can. You can change sessions. You can also block people if you're on PS4(I think there's something similar on XB1), show yourself as "offline" to help prevent people from following you between games and so on. When you engage griefers like this, that is exactly what they want. ......to get under your skin. In this case, they did exactly that and once they know that, they won't stop. I'm level 70 and I rarely get griefed and even less so with the new features. .,...but then again, I also use them to my advantage. btw, I had to remove the screen shot as we don't allow naming and shaming on these forums. I'm also moving this to the main RDO forum as this thread has more to do with a topic than an introduction.
  7. I'd like to remind everyone to keep these discussions civil. This heated exchange is silly as is the reason why. Let's put it to rest now
  8. ....good analogy. With theft deterrent devices you know that any one solution is not likely to be foolproof but the point is to make yourself less of an easy mark so criminals move on to more vulnerable prey. Theft deterrents also require a level of action on the part of the user in order to more effective. .....much like the anti-griefing features in the game. Defensive Mode is simply a deterrent to help mitigate the issue of griefing, not a way to stop it. .....but like the example above, a big part of making yourself less of a target really depends on how you use that feature to your advantage (not the attacker).
  9. ....yeah. I prefer to just play the game and let the level / money come in naturally. Don't get me wrong, I like to mix it up and even go on shooting sprees like you describe, but I find when I'm just doing missions with a friend(s) and not worry about it, I find I have more cash/gold than I expected after a session and level up regularly.
  10. I wouldn't say so because of one bad day. .....and as you admitted, you left yourself wide open to be griefed / player killed (or whatever is politically correct to call it) when you essentially dared him with that remark and figuratively turned your back. Personally, my reactions to encounters with randoms has gone largely unchanged since RDO released. I typically still give players a wide berth and avoid them when I can. I realize you knowingly left yourself willingly open to the risk in this case but I still believe those who get griefed in this game (for the most part) are victims of their own actions. .....or inaction. Makes you wonder though if he's willing to try it again after that encounter. My gut says yes unless he runs into others who give him the same treatment you did.
  11. Ok, that's fine. It's just that some folks come here with pleas such as yours to R* thinking that this is an official forum. I just wanted to make sure you understood that this was a fan forum. R* does listen to criticism by the way and they do have a feedback site where players can submit it in case you're interested: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadonline/feedback?redirect_lang=en_us Obviously you're welcome to share your ideas, criticisms, suggestions and feedback here as well since that is why these forums exist. ....but just thought I'd give you the link above in case you wanted to bend R*s ear on this as well.
  12. ....exactly. The GaaS model is here to stay and regardless of how some wish to portray it, R* is one of the most successful examples. You don't keep an online game alive or keep players coming back for more for nearly 6 years just because you're greedy. Anyone can make a game that exploits MTXs out of pure greed, but it's rare that you can make a game that players will want to stay with for the long haul. Piss off enough of your players and there will be no one left to play your game. IMO, R* has been able to keep players interested and coming back for years in GTAO because of content which is made possible through MTXs. They also don't alienate those who don't wish to participate in the purchase of MTXs as I believe they know they are just as important to their game's success.
  13. Yes, I would say it most definitely does. However, the content that is only available with the purchase of GBs is essentially all cosmetic and doesn't cover a majority of the content available to players in the game. Other items can be bought with in-game cash or gold. .....or just in-game cash. Instead of locking those items behind a paywall as some might do, at least they give players the opportunity to still earn gold through gameplay and not just MTXs. .....that was my point. Also, the economy in RDO is more forgiving than GTAO IMO / IME which may be one of the reasons they included two currencies for this game. While gold is harder to earn, in-game cash is much easier. Personally, I don't mind having to wait or "grind" for those special GB-only items if I want them bad enough, while everything else is relatively easily attainable. I also find that I don't care much for what is only purchasable with GBs. I won't argue that making the kind of money you need to buy businesses, aircraft, some vehicles, etc. in GTAO can be a grind but I've been quite successful myself without having to use money making glitches with the exception of changing my MTU settings to force myself into my own sessions or those that have a low population. .....given no other choice since private / friends only sessions do not include all of the CEO and VP content. I have no desire to play the grief-fest experience folks know as Public sessions. I have 26 days and I'm just over lvl 200 at this point over the course of 4+ years. I've never spent days on end grinding in GTAO but I have been able to buy quite a few businesses. ......several of which I wish I didn't waste millions of my money on. I don't like watching YT videos on how to make money fast so it cost me a lot to figure out what was a sure bet. Once I bought my first garage and started stealing cars, the money really started to roll in. .....and if you fill your garage up with all of the available low and mid range cars without selling them, then every recovery you get is all high end. .....fill you cool off time with some VP or other business missions and the time goes by pretty quick. Plus, I enjoy mixing it up and doing them. My latest purchase (about a year ago now?) was a nightclub. I thought is it was cool how it tied into my other businesses I bought when I just had an MC. I visit the club every once in while once stock levels are high enough to turn a tidy profit. .....and collect my club earnings from my wall safe. I promote the club occasionally to keep profits up but it's all just more things to do in the game world. Whether it's GTAO or RDO, if I didn't find elements of the "grind" fun, I wouldn't be playing them.
  14. Hi @Thanatos VoriganVorigan and welcome to the forums. Just an fyi in case you created this post directed at Rockstar..... RDR2 is a fan form with no affiliation to R* or 2K. Just thought I would mention that just in case.
  15. Yeah, that's a bummer. The game has been working great for me especially since the last update that fixed my blue screen crashes since the big title update. Ive all but given up on the Division 2 as it got way too repetitive for me and way too bullet spongy once I reached the tiers. I only still play because of a friend who is able to game 1-2 times per week and likes to coop. We still have fun with it but I can't handle more frequent sessions with it right now. Really looking forward to Insurgency Sandstorm as I think that might be my go-to game for a while depending on how the development on console goes. Ghost Recon Breakpoint looks too much like a copy of the Division now from what I'm hearing as they introduce looting elements, skills, tiers for weapons apparently and other RPG elements. I really enjoyed GRW because it was more of a tactical shooter than an RPG. Looks like that is changing and a lot of folks aren't too happy about it. .....no team AI, PvE and PvP being tied together, always online play, etc. .....bummer.
  16. I realized R* would lock some items behind GBs but they also said these would be essentially all cosmetic and they've stuck with that promise. Personally, I have no problem with it especially since we can still earn gold within the game and we are also gifted GBs from time to time. We are also able to make more through special events / promotions. In some games, items can be locked and only available via MTXs with no opportunity to earn the special currency required through gameplay. Even with how hard it can be to grind for, at least we can still collect GBs in this game rather than only having the option to buy them via MTX. I'm just happy that a most of the aesthetic items are still available using in-game currency and many of those locked behind GBs are still relatively within reach simply by playing the game, taking advantage of promos, gifts, etc.
  17. Ok, sorry to see you go. Don't know what else to say.
  18. You should also be getting XP and cash IIRC.
  19. Same here. My outfit is essentially all black with the exception of my shirt which is white.
  20. .....and once again, no one ever suggested Defensive mode would stop griefing completely. Just because someone can, it doesn't prove the whole concept of the feature falls apart and is useless. I also see no escalation of griefing as you predicted nor did I see a trend after the proximity blips were introduced when we all had this discussion before. Quite the opposite in fact. Rockstar never sold the feature as a passive mode and anyone who uses it in such is only setting themselves up for failure. For people like @Netnow66 looking for a truly passive/protected experience, he's not going to be completely satisfied with this direction. However, for those of us just looking for ways to mitigate the unprovoked / indiscriminate killing, it seems a lot of us are finding the new features helping in that respect to some degree or another. ......even Netnow. Personally, I have yet to be griefed since the new defensive option was implemented even when I purposely let my guard down a few times just to see what would happen. There have been a couple times I thought I/we might be attacked only to have a an relatively quick and uneventful experience. Sorry to say but it's not the same as it's always been in my experience and those of others who have shared theirs. You keep talking about those "bottom feeders" as if they make no difference. Well, they do IMO/IME because if those are in fact the only ones being affected as you say, it seems they must have been the majority of the problem. I have to disagree. It's not semantics as "passive" usually denotes an option where the player is immune to attack. Defensive is nothing like that. It provides some protections and options in the event you are attacked/killed, but is not a passive mode. You still need to take precautions and adjust your playstyle and even then, there is still the possibility of being attacked and killed.
  21. No joke.... I use up a lot of gold just to change the finish on my Schofields. I left the hammers and IIRC the triggers the original silver-colored material. .....didn't even get around to changing the wood nor my long guns.
  22. I watched only little tidbits so I couldn't really say.
  23. Here's the problem..... R* isn't very forthcoming in regard to such mechanics, functions or features in RDO. For example, until they mentioned it in an article, I had no idea that your proficiency with a weapon got better the more you use it in the online mode. Some things like stirrups, weapons, etc. will show you stats that are simple enough to compare benefits, drawbacks, etc. ......but with some other things in this game, it seems to be tribal knowledge. Personally, I would ask R* directly through their Support page and see what they say. https://support.rockstargames.com/categories/115001624507?redirect_lang=en_us&_ga=2.142560370.1344355993.1559407244-1373137896.1559407244 IMO, it only hurts them not to be more forward with this information if things like this do have an affect because that would be all the more reason people would want to buy them.
  24. Have you noticed that you can no longer see red players from across the map? They are proximity based now as well and while they extend a bit further than blue dots, they still have limitations to how far you can see them.
  25. There are several factors that could be involved here especially if you were engaged with them right before entering your camp. IMO/IME, griefing happens in most cases because people allow it to happen by being complacent, being unaware and/or taking risks. Situational awareness is key. Use the advantages of defensive mode to evade or escape from unwanted encounters. Move to a new area away from other players especially when you spawn in. Choose a spawn point opposite of the place you want to go and travel there. The system tends to group players together in the same session. If you're attacked, don't engage them. Use the parley feature, press charges and vacate the area asap. I even block players although I'm not sure if that even helps but it also means they can't msg me. There is also a reporting feature if you feel their behavior is disruptive like when they were taunting you in your camp. These new features can help but you still have to play as if everyone is a threat if you want to help yourself avoid these types of situations.
