YodaMan 3D
I was talking with a friend from my friends' list and he was telling me that he can't remember the last time he has played a game that he hasn't used a cheat, glitch, or hack intentionally just to stay competitive, mostly a PvP player. I understand and don't need a confession here if you use them. Just curious how many feel it is ok to use a cheat, glitch, or hack if others are doing it in the game just so you can keep up?

Using hacks/cheats/glitches just makes you part of the problem. Doesn't make you any better, just means that you're not good enough to play a fair game. Also kind of depends on the game/cheat. Your friend is using them for a competitive edge, that's a problem. It may mean that he's having more fun, but that's at the expense of another player's fun. Cheating in a solo/offline game (like old school game shark type stuff) isn't a problem. Nobody cares. Edit: I can still probably remember how to do the "Missing No." cheat in the original pokemon games. Edited October 10, 2018 by Truth
Kean_1
Never have, never will. I just don't see the point. IMO, I don't care about leaderboards, stats, etc. I play games for the enjoyment of it. Personally, I care more about the gameplay and camaraderie. ......likely why I prefer co-op over PvP. If cheating is so bad as to dampen my enjoyment of a game, I'll simply not play. If I've learned anything over all these years is that if there is a way to exploit, take advantage of or hack a game, there will always be people to do it.
YodaMan 3D
I agree with you guys and that is why I stopped playing games with the guy. It just seems odd that some players so easily cross the line rather then do the right thing.

Jackthestripper
Personally, not only have I never used a hack and/or cheat, but wouldn't know how, and don't WANT to know how. I think it appeals mainly to people who just aren't good enough to compete on a fair and level playing field. Besides, it's really not much of a feather in the hat to get ahead of the other players through a hack or a cheat. A couple of weeks ago someone on RDRO had a car, (which I have NEVER seen in all the time I've played), and an explosive rifle with unlimited ammo outside of Warthington Ranch. He was offing people left, right and center. At one time I would have been upset years ago, but now I'm over it, and really just felt embarrassed for him. Anyone with descent gaming skills doesn't need that to be competitive.
Kean_1
Now that I think about it, I should mention that in GTAV:O that I have used an exploit of sorts on my PS4 that allows me to join public, free roam sessions alone or with very few other randoms so I can do business missions in relative peace. I simply change my connection settings so the game places me in my own session. Sometimes a few others may be placed in the same session but most times they are there for the same reason I am and may even offer to help each other. Again, not an exploit that I use in a competitive PvP scenario but thought I should mention it nonetheless.

I'm a low level and broke, so naturally people like to f*ck with me in GTA... It's rare that I can do much without some rich douchebag flying over in his stupid f*cking delorean to blow me up... I don't see how that's a fair fight to begin with, so something like that sounds totally reasonable. Edit: Clearly I'm a little salty... Lonestar
Never have and never would. Aren't most of these things detected nowdays anyway? I know GTA Online on PC is full of hackers, but didn't think it was an issue with other games like FPS for example? I remember CS aimbots were pretty big back in the day. Freddie Mercury
I've never had the desire to cheat or hack a game just so I can be better then other players. I play a game because I want to have fun. I don't give a sh*t about what place I'm at on the Leaderboards or what my statistics are. I play to have fun and nothing else.

I saw a couple players in trouble with the law (in a firefight) so I decided to drop in and offer them a lift out. One of the players promptly pulled me out of the pilot's seat, his buddy hopped in and they took off. ......luckily it was a Chinook so I had time to break out my launcher and take them out. They respawned, killed me and then I returned the favor once again. ......same old story everyone has heard before. That was the last time I actively engaged in any PvP action in that game. I played solo almost exclusively from that time forward.
Grey Gato
I have never used cheats or hacks either. I play these games to enjoy myself in my spare time. I can’t imagine that playing the game with a ridiculous unfair advantage is fun. It certainly doesn’t seem rewarding to me. I do know that playing against that unfair advantage is not definitely NOT fun. (See GTAO.) Since we’re discussing GTAO, one of my least favorite features over there is the KDR stat. I swear that number is a big part of the reason there are so many high level players hunting down low level players — just to boost their KDR. I hope that R* gets rid on the KDR stat in Red Dead Redemption Online. I think it would go a long way to make the online environment much more enjoyable.
TheHansonGoons
Cheats and glitches are awesome on old games. After all, who here has beat Contra without the Konami code? I try to think of how they ruin the other players' spare time when playing MP though. Its one thing if a group gets together to find or play with them. Its disrespectful to be malicious with the advantage though.
debbo89
Reading through this as someone who doesn’t play online, I am interested to hear from others what makes online gaming such a draw to people? Some of the comments on this thread sum up the exact reason I don’t play online. Paying money or cheating just to stay competitive, getting robbed by people you were just trying to help, people that are 100 levels above you blowing you up with their super weapons and gadgets. I honestly don’t see what's fun about that.

I honestly don’t see what's fun about that. Some of us like the interaction with other players, a chance to tests ourselves against others. Sometimes its running with others in co-op to make us better, while for others it's about facing others that make you better. Some just can't handle social interaction, they feel that to impress you. They have to be the best. Like their GT will be legendary so some day you will tell your kids about the one time that you played against a player that whooped you 1 million times. For them it's fun, they don't care about being competitive, they only care about the winning. In these day and times, winning is everything and losing just bites. Hazed0NE
Using hacks and cheats when it is just you or you and a buddy is fine but when you do it on a public server, it is just shitty for other players and it is something that, out of respect to other people enjoying the game, you simply shouldn't do. How do you expect to get any better cheating?

Purple Cactus
I have taken full advantage of glitches. Remember the one in GTA V online with the garage? I must have done that like 20 times or more. I was swimming in cash. Then one day I couldn't get online and I realize I made a huge mistake. lol

I knew about it but never did it. ....but I also wasn't too bothered by it (in this game) As far as I was concerned, it made no difference if someone like that got their money from a exploit or acquired their wealth via Shark Cards. The result was the same. .....quick cash that can be spent on things to kill me. I worked harder for it but I still had access to the same things. Hackers on the other hand, I have less tolerance for. At least exploits get exposed and then typically fixed. As far as griefers, they suck no matter how they acquire their money. There are other ways to work the system to get relatively quick cash though (without exploits / cheating). Lots of videos on it. I wouldn't dream of telling someone to buy Shark Cards. I never have and never will. .....but I would suggest they watch videos that could help show them the more lucrative and effective ways to earn cash in the game. I also play solo in public servers so I totally understand where you're coming from. I rarely stay in populated sessions for very long and never had the desire to grief someone. .....getting revenge on a griefer is a different story. As far as reaching $2 million, I've spent that much simply obtaining some of my businesses in the game and aircraft. The Buzzard was a must-have and at some point I bought a Hydra. As for businesses, the first one was a biker clubhouse and then a couple sub-businesses (e.g. counterfeiting, drugs, etc.). A bunker was next and then a hanger and so on doning VP missions. .....but it wasn't until I became a CEO and bought an office at the Maze Bank bldg when the opportunities to make fast cash started happening. ....bought a garage and started doing car theft missions and then a warehouse to acquire and move special cargo. I usually pop into GTAV:O once in a while and alternate between both of those mission types. I can easily make about $200k-$300k without too much effort. .....much more if I'm more serious about it. My most recent business was a night club which is generating about $25k per day on its own at the moment IIRC without much effort on my part. ....and I can still expand on it to make more. I only wish I would have watched some of those videos I talked about before I bought a lot of the things I did as several of them proved to be either worthless or less lucrative. .....basically a waste of money IMO. I also take advantage of the freebies R* offers usually for just logging into online. IIRC, there is one going on right now where they will give you $1 million if you already pre-ordered RDR2. They had one not too long ago where I got a few hundred grand a day (again, just by logging on) over the course of about a week or so. I think it totaled $2 million or more if you managed to signon each day during that period. I have to say, that I use aircraft whenever possible and it makes traveling between businesses and even doing the missions (where you can use them) so much easier and efficient. I think the Buzzard was one of the most expensive purchases I made early on in the game but had the most value to me.

You can easily make $100K in about an hour if you complete a few missions. Most of the random players you come across in missions do not seem to be griefers. Skrylaxx
Plenty of people did that garage glitch in GTA V and never got banned. I know a few people who did it countless times and never got punished and someone else who only did it 3 times and got permabanned. They went about that the wrong way. It wasn't the player's fault it was in the game and it should have been fixed a lot quicker. It also isn't fair only some people got banned and punished and not all of them but I guess that is the way the cookie crumbles. I never bothered with it. Sir Wrinklebutt
I remember in RDR1 on many many occasions being "killed", by a throwing knife from 4000 yds away, a glitch that allowed players to kill themselves off map, then continue playing but totally invisible, killing as they wished ... why ??? so effin pointless other than to mess with other players enjoyment. I hated it, cause you could be fighting people down in Mexico and get sniped by a player up in Tall Trees area.
