My 2 biggest complaints.

Very long rant ahead 😂 First let me start by saying I love the game. Single player isn’t lacking stuff to do and online is honestly a lot better than I expected but honestly I’ll tell ya my 2 biggest issues with RDO. Trolls. And lack of good paying jobs. I completely understand that the game is meant for you have a posse and run around like a boss but it gets annoying quick when I’m trying to go into a town to do a mission and there’s a posse just camping there by the mission waiting to kill me everytime I try to come up to it so I just get killed over and over again. Also one of the free roam games is called archery master or something like that and the whole point is to run around shooting these targets with your bow and arrow and you get points by accuracy and distance from target. The game has nothing to do with killing eachother yet everytime I play it there’s like 30 players doing it and maybe 5 people are playing the game. The other 25 are running around with shotguns like it’s a deathmatch just killing everyone and it’s really really annoying. There’s literally a death match mode for that so wtf. Then not only that but I deal with that for the 10-15 minutes the game lasts and all I get is 1 gold nugget and like a dollar 50🙄 which brings me to my next point. The lack of good money/gold. Just like gta online the prices of everything are outrageous and the pay for games and missions are at the minimum forcing me to do one of 2 things. Either use real money and do microtransactions once those are available or quit my job so I can play the game 40 hours a week for weeks on end so I can buy a damn hat or something. I’m all for working for the money I don’t want it handed to me in one mission. BUT I shouldn’t have to no life for 3 days just to make 100 bucks and that won’t even buy me anything except food and ammo..

I feel you mate! I deal with the same problems! 

My biggest concern, even knowing its a beta, is the MASSIVE "Trolling / Griefing" that there is.. I try to be kind to everyone i meet, and i always end up getting shot. It takes away the fun. (For me atleast) i know there is some PVP people, loving the fact, that they can shoot everyone, without any reason.. But for me = No go!

The prices is insane, its absurd how much things cost, and how slow the money earnings take..

Yup.

Economy is weird (designed to get real world cash, I reckon), and trolls are very silly and tend to ruin gameplay at times. 

Luckily I've not had too many encounters with trolls so far - about half a dozen or so.  The worst was the guy camping near the butcher who would kill you/horse just to stop you selling pelts etc.  What a douche!

That is SO lame... Same goes for those camping near mission posts.. I dont see why they would do that to anyone. Where is the joy? 

- Some funny moments though, when you ride together and miss a turn, and the ones behind you follow, and they all fall off the horse.. 😅

I have to say that this is online mp. Therefore yes, players are going to want to kill you to stop you from doing stuff. If you want to do just missions, then player single player.

 

Think about what i say before replying with the usual childish comebacks.

 

FTR....I agree it is lame that players camp out at mission spots but go on the defense and kill them first.

I've just been killed for the fifth or sixth time this morning. I got up early, minded my business and started farming and hunting. I don't mind the grind--I do mind getting murdered repeatedly when I'm minding my own business. Not 100% sure if I'm going to continue playing at this point, at least in the beta.

Here is a suggestion that someone gave to me to avoid the clowns parked around an area. If I roll up to an area and think there's going to be trouble, I go into the menu and select free roam again. I've been told that puts you on another server where, hopefully, there are at least fewer knuckleheads around. All I know is that it worked the majority of times I did it this morning, at least long enough for me to accomplish much of what I wanted.

I haven't really had trouble with trolls (other than a damn pronghorn that headbutted me right as I opened my catalog).  Tho I've spent a lot of times on PVP servers in games watching my back, so have developed tricks for it.  If you're just trying to do missions and not deal with people, the quick menu (left on the d-pad) can get you into things almost instantly.  Saw someone mention skipping the pelts, just get small game, and you don't have to worry about losing anything.

The economy is a bit off, only get 2-5 dollars per repeat story mission, and you spend almost as much getting back the ammo you used on the mission.  Doing the story missions tho, and getting those small game parts and looting a few bodies during missions for valuables to sell, I've been getting enough money to get like 1 item a day (got a second stable $100 and my free Thouroughbred yesterday, grabbed my bolt action the day before, but had to save $260 or $360 [don't remember which] from 2 days for that).

.....as you dismiss others and imply their feedback is "usually childish".  Yeah, ok. 

HInt....  Don't insult someone and then ask them to do you the courtesy of listening to what you have to say.

This is great advice.  I would encourage others to share their experiences with R* and their suggestions.  Unlike certain individuals in these forums, R* is looking for your feedback both good and bad and that's what matters.  

The issue is that public sessions provide trolls with a target rich environment.  .....and yeah, they are "trolls" when there is no other benefit to randomly killing other players except for the simple pleasure (in their eyes) of causing grief.

Sure, this is multiplayer but it is also supposed to be a place where folks can play cooperatively while they explore the game world, engage in missions and other activities.  The crux of the problem lies in the fact that trolls can ruin all other aspects of game play in the RDR world.  Even the "solo experience" R* promotes is a pipe dream in RDO right now as those players are made easy targets by these kill squads that camp mission sites, towns, seek out players using the radar tracking, etc.

I am pretty confident that at some point R* will introduce private / invite only session options and perhaps even passive modes for public lobbies.  In the meantime, I would encourage you all to provide your feedback here:

Done. And I will encourage those I play with to contact them also. I really hope we can get something done. I really like what this game has to offer so far--except for getting killed for minding my own business.

I quite like it so far. I've not played more than 3 hours worth yet but from what I've played it's fun and works quite well.
My only issue is I'm really bad at it when playing the series mode. I don't seem to be able to hit enemies but they get headshots most times on me.
Lucky if I get more than 4 kills.

I was enjoying it two nights ago when the trolling wasn't so bad but last night was horrible and I can only see it getting worse.  The verbal crap talking was just as bad.

You do know that there's CO OP missions in this game.  That have ZERO PVP in it.

It's Mad Max in the 1890's.  This public only session is essentially a lopsided deathmatch with these trolling "kill squads" having the advantage.  Not what I call a fun MP experience at all.

I don't get how some people don't understand why people don't want to engage with hostile players all the time.

 

A posse of hostile players is going to prevent the people they attack from doing 'everything'.  Even If the the player(s) who get attacked defend themselves and kill the hostile trolls. 

Some hostile players even get  angry when they get killed..  So that just makes them keep coming back for more.  And the cycle never ends...lol

The only option ends up being finding a new session.

I've only played around 3-4 hrs of Online play over the last 2 nights. I've done a few missions. Mostly been playing the Showdown series matches. The cost of items is so much more expensive when compared to the single player game prices. I have less than 1 unit of gold, and around $50. It will be grindy to afford better gear doing side missions like this. Maybe there is a better way to earn money?

You can mute individual players. Tap left directional (PS4) and select Players. Or set voice chat options to to hear; Everyone, Friends Only, Crew Only, and Posse Only. Tap left directional and navigate down from Players to Online to access those options.

Thanks. I already knew about the mute option and had to use it on several players.  We also reported about 4 trolls who were using racial slurs and abusive language.  Anyone who thinks this kind of online experience is ok needs to have the head examined.  It got to the point that our team of 4 went to PSN party chat.  This is textbook trolling.  

I know new session options are likely on the horizon but I hope they implement them sooner than later because if it takes too long there will only be this toxic element left playing in this game.  At this point, I am even advocating for passive modes simply so players can navigate past the constant, hostile actions of these griefers.  

Currently, the best bet is to travel in packs and avoid others when possible which is hard when they cap mission points, etc.  We still had a lot of fun but also several frustrating moments. When you fight back, they simply respawn again and continue their assault.  .....there's no end unless you run away.

Not sure if it finds a new session but it seems like this should...  If you're having trouble with one session, bring up the pause menu, and either exit game in the story section, or click free roam in the online section.  I haven't had to try it yet, but it seems like that should do the trick and find a new session. 

For some reason none of my RL friends have started playing online yet, even tho they all have the Ultimate Edition, so I've been on my own the past few days.  Like I've said, not really having problems with trolls.  The few hours (maybe 4-5 total) that I've spent in free roam, I stay on the move, try not to stay in any one place too long (other than camp with my white flag up, or while phased out browsing a vendor's wares), and I check my map every few minutes or so to make sure nobody is coming towards me.  Also, while riding, I'll avoid the roads (railroads as well) as much as possible.  If I make a waypoint, I head straight for it, even through thick woods, but I've gotten pretty good at going through trees full speed (mostly attributed to changing how I control the horse, it's either centered around your camera or which way the horse is facing, the former being default and the latter being what I use)  Have only come across maybe a dozen people during those few hours (even with the map crawling with blips), and most of them just kept riding after they check me out, even when they outnumbered me.  I've probably just been lucky with who I come across, but for the most part, after I finished the last story mission available right now, I've been using the quick menu for matchmaking.  You get into a match almost instantly, and you can get your ammo there.  

I think the stranger missions are intended to have people ambush you while you try to do them (I've only done 3 and again, had no problems with other players), just like when getting supplies and selling your stock from your factories or w/e in GTA:O. Those will probably remain in freeroam public servers only.

So essentially what your telling me is that those of us that want to play the game the right way and actually play the mini games the way  they were intended to be played should just get off and never play again cuz we don’t like the **** offs that are just there to be a di*k? So you want me to just play single player cuz I play the game right and I’m respectful of players that are just minding their own business but it’s totally alright for the ****in idiots to just keep on playing cuz they’re just doing a wonderful job?

Has nothing to do with the game directly, just taking the opportunity to rant a bit.  But what really chaps my hide is when players ride past you, wait for you to go by, and then circle back and shoot you in the back of the head.  When someone is riding toward me, I draw my gun and wait to see if they act hostile.  If they do, I draw up on them and we go to town. All civilized like.  The way it should be.  But when some squirly assed chicken little waits for you to go by just so they can shoot you in the back... man, you can bet I've got your name on a list.  I cannot abide cowards and cravens.

Oh and go on the defense and kill them first? Hmmm wow I would’ve never thought of that! What a great idea cuz you can totally kill 3 guys and get to the mission start point before they respawn and come back! Wow I must be an idiot for not thinking of that before! Why don’t you try it and come back and tell me how it works out for you. Id bet money you get 2 of 3 down and then those will have respawned by time you get the 3rd down then your in the same predicament that you were before you started. And MAYBE I’m bored with single player. I have a million dollars and nothing else to buy or unlock so I’m sorry I enjoy the idea of creating a character and actually having sh*t to work for and unlock now! But hey guys I guess all of us that are like me and hate trolls have to stop playing cuz this dudes obviously from R* and has all the answers and he says not to play the game anymore if we don’t like the idiots that aren’t even playing right.

Yea you know I think that’s really my issue with trolls. They’re chicken shits they camp out around mission start points hiding behind sh*t waiting for you or they do like you day and wait till they can shoot you in the back when they know you can’t do anything back to them real quick or they wait for you to go afk while getting a drink or somthing then come kill you. They don’t face you head on cuz they’re too scared and know they’ll lose

That's usually how I see it.  For example, when I used to play WoW, I'd go leveling an alt, and a high level player (usually a large group of them) would come by, one shot me, and just camp my body.  They literally get nothing for it, yet they do it cuz it makes them feel superior.  Then they go against a player their level (or me if I had my main toon logged off nearby) and get ROFLStomped so bad, they go back to trolling the lowbies.

Yeah, had this happen several times.  Even when we were being cool with them and they were clearly outnumbered.  One guy pissed me off so bad I shot and killed his horse as well.  

......but then the vicious cycle continues and the respawn, come after you again, etc., etc., etc.  Boring as hell.  ....and the crap talking is absolutely infantile.  It would be funny if it weren't so sad.  Trolling in its purest form.  Trying to provoke people.

Yea the sh*t talking is pretty bad.. I had a guy ride up to me the run off and was waiting for me up the trail a bit so I had my pump out in case he was gonna try anything then as I was approaching he said “you ain’t sh*t bro whatcha gonna do?” I didn’t even respond But before he was even able to get a gun out I got a headshot on him and killed him so yea I really ain’t sh*t 😂
