Curious what sort of money making routes you guys are doing in free roam.

I've gotten into the pattern of hitting a fishing hole and then hunting on my way to the Valentine butcher and I'd like to plan a longer more varied route that hits multiple money making opportunities and butchers. Good hunting, fishing, herb collecting, gang spawns, etc?

So what are your go to spots?

Here's my Salmon fishing spot. They sell for $4.25 a pop, but require a $0.50 worm to catch until you can get lures at rank 30. The Salmon seem to appear in this very specific location and have some kind of spawning cycle where they aren't always there, but it's usually pretty reliable.

I don't have a fishing rod yet, and when I do get one I may not bother using it - as I find reeling the right stick adequately to be difficult with my disabilities.

Instead I've discovered I can fish more easily using throwing knives LOL - sure you damage the fish (smaller ones especially) but they still add up. Simply find a spot low enough to wade into, aim and throw, instant kill, fishy goes belly up and you get your knives back when you pick them up. Caught a big one last night up by Window Rock, needed to toss it onto my horse to ride it back to Valentine

I like to hunt in the Heartlands, generally the space of land in between Valentine and Emerald Ranch. It's very open and contains a lot of birds and deer, which can be very profitable if you kill a lot of them at a time. It's best to do it during the daytime because that's when the birds like to fly around. I make about $40.

I want to steal a chuckwagon with no tarp and fill it with pelts and deer carcasses from this area to see if it would work - but at the current state of no anonymity, I don't want to advertise "PERSON HUNTING MAKING A LOT OF MONEY WITH A SLOW AND STEALABLE WAGON!!" to everyone looking on their map so I'm waiting for invite only lobbies

I mostly just hunt. I haven't really established anything yet but I figured this is the most fun way to earn money considering I can make it a game in my own right. Me and a buddy will set a timer and see who can hunt the most deer (or other animals) in that time frame. We will also see who can get the most quality pelts. It is a lot of fun.

I get bored quickly doing the same things, so I do 'circuits' or 'routes' to keep it varied.

Typically, I mark a way point on the map as a half way point, then after reaching it mark the butcher for the return journey.

Whilst on one of my expeditions I'll shoot most small game and birds I come across; investigate and loot any open buildings; collect a few bunches of herbs; take out two or three big game; do a spot of fishing; clear out any bandit camps or deal with an ambush and loot the bodies; and maybe commit a murder or three with lone riders (I'm slowly lowering my honor down so as to unlock final story missions).

Then I'll do a round a series events, do any treasure maps I have, then go shopping.

Nice post, I did around 200$ fishing yesterday, I bought the lake lure for one gold bar and it's been pretty effective since then. I'm only at level 22.

If you fishing right you should not lose the lake lure but make sure to be carefull.

I found some salmon in the Owanjila lake, near the north west side of it where the river feed the lake itself....

I usually spend my time using the quick menu for story mission matchmaking. Most of them can be completed in just a few minutes if done properly. When I want a break from that, I'll spend some time hunting and/or fishing, depending on my mood. And then of course, I'll go after the treasures when I get a new map. Seems like there is no real best way to make money right now, it's basically just what you feel like doing, although hunting is definitely up there since you don't have to spend as much money on ammo or consumables.

Yeah you can spend gold to get the Lure's early

I haven't used my gold yet, but it seems that even tho when you go to the store, it tells you that you have to wait until a certain rank, I'm guessing that if you have the gold, you try it anyways and it buys it early.  IS that how it is? Does it cost extra gold to buy early? Or when you get the rank, gold no longer works?  I doubt anyone wants to try this without micro-transactions, and then, almost no people would want to do it at all.  I have too many (usually free) games I gave up on after spending $500+ on micro-transactions to WANT to spend again... usually end up spending more anyways

For RDO, you can use gold to buy things regardless of rank. So you can get it early. I assume you can use micro transactions to purchase gold. It's unknown what that will cost. R* said they will be adjusting the RDO economy. I hope to making earning gold easier.

I too have spent too much money on various free phone game. Damn you CandyCrush! I'm hoping it doesn't become pay to win. We shall see.

Back then there was no regulation on game or fish, a trot line would have been widely used.

A crafted item that should be an upper level item.

Like trapping, you set the line and come back to it.

Oh yeah need traps too while we are dreaming of period correctness.

I know this is a stupid question... But does the game allow women characters to be prostitutes? I never looked into it. I haven't seen any kind of sexually themed stuff online at all. Like in GTA V online, we had the strip clubs and what not. It is more for humor than anything for me so no big deal if this kind of stuff isn't on the game.

I'm sure they can dress like one, but as for making money from sexual favors, I doubt it's something they even considered, tho brothels would fit perfectly. That'd be an interesting side job, little minigames to give a perfect handjob or whatever the customer asked for.
