Fishing is bull#$%&

Are you trying to reel in the fish when it's  fighting? That's a no no. When it fights hold left or right on the left analog stick and go back to reeling when it stops. Take your time to reel it in. I caught an 18 lbs 8 oz. Muskie last night with a river lure. Didn't have an issue bringing him in.

the line breaks and I lose that lure. what the hell is this sh*t?

Like @Vaderspupil said, you can't just keep reeling it in. Use the left stick to pull it where you want and wait for it to stop resisting. Then reel it in quickly, pulling back on the left stick as you go (that pulls the fish closer to you and makes it easier to reel in). If your controller is vibrating, you should wait.

Smaller fish don't seem to break the line either way though.

I've spent some time in the single-player game fishing. It took me some time to get the hang of it. This basic guide may help.

I have had some difficult fish where it took a long time of fighting with them to eventually reel them in. I just learned a tip @1:12 "when the controller is rumbling, you'll need to move the left joystick back and forth to tire the fish out". I'll have to try that out.

I've not had a line break while waiting for my controller to stop rumbling. That could be a bug.

The key is this

*no reeling while fish is fighting

*while fish IS fighting, move rod in opposite direction(left or right)

*once fish is done fighting, continue pulling up on the rod (rod will continue to be bent over)...during this time reel in quickly...you'll notice that the rod will eventually go level again weather you pull back on the rod or not, when this happens, continue to reel and pull back again while reeling, remembering to stop once fish starts fighting again.

*repeat

I and some of my friends go with the varmint rifle every once in a while. Let's you keep an eye on your radar too.  I got my first muskie online with the shotgun, just cuz I was running along the shore with it out for some reason, and the muskie poked his head way out of the water right next to me.  Thought it was Jaws and shot a bit in it's direction.  Poor quality but still quite a bit of money, before the fish nerf anyways.

Occasionally will go dynamite fishing, too.  Pretty satisfying, even for the poor fish.

I've lost a lure but I reeled when a muskie was fighting so my bad. You guys know you can use eagle eye to spot fish, right? As long as you have the fishing rod in your hands it works. I caught 5 sturgeon by Blackwater last night using it.

Fishing is a sport for old(er) men. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, then batter the wee bastard over the head with a club..

Hey now....

Actually, I enjoyed it just as much when I was younger too.  Fishing is an excuse to BS with your friends and/or drink.  .....at least it has always been for me.  It's also a great time to reflect as well.

I'm not the only one who just shoots the fish, right?

I try it with a shotgun.  Not much left but if good you can get 2 or 3 at a time.  Dynamite works well to, you get a lot more per attempt.  They are all worthless, but quantity over quality I alway say.  hehe  Just kidding, I have tried other opitons, but they turn up being a waste.

I tried fishing near a legendary spawn with a like last night for almost an hour.

It's terrible.

If I wanted to play a fishing simulator, I'd play a fishing simulator.  They make it unintuitively difficult and the tooltips are worthless.

I must have been in the wrong spot.  I'd drop dynamite, or throw it, in the water in between all the little bubble rings, and i'd get 1 fish, or maybe that's all i could find after the blast?  I tried doing the challenge for getting fish without using the pole with dynamite,  didn't work so well.

Shotgun fishing is fun,  Used to do that way back when i was a kid when the irrigation canals would be emptied and start to freeze at my cousin's house.  We'd take the shotguns out and blast the carp through the ice, until the ice got too thick to shoot through.  Now you'd get some animal rights person, or a paranoid person hearing the shots calling the cops on you.

Fond memories lol

When I did it, I threw it just beyond the bubbles.  Trying not to get too close.  I got like 4 or 5 fish, but they was the lowest grade.  If you throw it in the middle, then you probably destroy everything.

That's probably it.  first time i was at Owanjila and the corpse marker was on the edge of my minimap.  I tried it over where the creek empties into the lake, there's a group of 5 or 6 bubble rings usually.  Only found the 1 fish, so i'm guessing the rest were blown to chum, or out in the water, or opposite bank where i couldn't/didn't see them.
