Dissention
So I know nothing about horses in real life, except for Google information. I see one video on the YouTube about this subject and don't see this question has ever been asked. What translates into RDO from your experience with horses and the bottom line of Male vs female? Apparently a mare is supposed to be calmer horse and a Stallion is supposed to be a little more wild, agressive Should also mention that I play as a female character, read Stallions might be tougher on women. I am assuming that R* is not offering geldings (since the males seem to have the proper junk in all the right places) I don't know was thinking about investing in a a new horse but what is the advantage of a male or female horse? Right now I have all males and their all kinda of skittish

I don't think rockstar's going to tell you about the characteristic of each breed and gender, but I will tell you what I know from experience. One of my Posse members bought a $130 horse for its looks. That's the smoothest handling horse I've ridden in the game. I used a very helpful chart in rankedboost.com. I wanted stamina and speed. The perfect combination came by using hooded stirrups and the upgraded Gerden Trail saddle (the upgraded Stanger Roping is rated nearly as high). While my higher-level character does have and exotic (beaver) saddle, the expense and waiting for the level to get it done are not necessary. My horse of choice for both characters is the Nokota Dappled Grey. It didn't occur to me that I picked the same gender, a mare, with my second character so I can't speak about the stallion. Moondance, outfitted as stated, is lightning fast with amazing endurance. I want to get away or get to my destination. My Turks are skittish and way too slow to arrive when I whistle. Moonie is always right there when I need her. That's more important to me than her fear of gators and wolves because I prepare for those predators in advance.

0 Kean_1
This is another one of those components of the game you may not hear but might actually have a bearing on game play. I really wish R* was more open about these things. I like discovering some neat animations or features, but with others it would really help in my decisions and how I play.
0 Dissention
Yeah I think I'm pretty set out on trying a female horse... best thing to do is to just try see what happens and game is as realistic as R* bills it to be. I got a boatload of $'s and 3 free horse from PlayStation. Their all males and only use the red Chestnut anyway. R* is nuts if they think I'm buying a 4th stable for$500 though...one is going to the glue factory. Now I got to decide between another Arabian, Missouri fox Trotter or Turkoman I'm not looking for speed just something that has high stanima and health and a lot less skittish Black Arabian has best stats in my book but really want the white (whole pale horse of death thing) I'm big subscriber of the fight club mentality... “You wanna make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs.”. Worst case scenario I'll be grinding for some $'s I'll post my thoughts after some time just to hopefully help someone else out Edited May 29, 2019 by Dissention

0 Dissention
IDK. Jury still out...I wound up buying the black Arabian and at first glance she seems a heck of a lot calmer than all my other free PS4 male horses. She did not run away during wolf attack, haven't been down to gators yet but she is pretty rock solid. Personally I think R* nerfed the free horses to get me to buy a new horse and I don't have a scientific way to compare it to the black Arabian male. Only thing I can say with 100% confidence is this game is a spaghetti Western. The code is a bunch of spaghetti twisted together on a fork... On the plus side I'm not staring at a big old sack of nuts all night anymore Edited May 31, 2019 by Dissention
0 N7Creed
Haha, My spidey sense is tingling!! @Major Dammidge Yes, I brought the Hungarian Halfbreed Piebald Tobiano. He's a level 24 war horse, so certainly not the best stats. But of all my horses (And I have the special edition TB) he's my preferred all-rounder for free-roam. I had the free red arabian on my PS account. It's skittish and flighty even with full bonding. Both these are stallions, but at least in the singleplayer, I didn't notice much difference between male v female. Breed seems more influential. I'm tempted to get a second shire and make it a mare (first is a stallion) and see if they act differently. 0 Redstaski
I have 5 horses, bought 7 or 8, 4 are mares and 1 is a stallion. I picked mares cause the junk in the trunk was always bouncing around when I was riding. Whether or not you like it, there is a lot of horseback riding when you play online and if I have to stare at a horses ass for that much time I prefer a more scenic view. Of all my horses, the Hungarian half breed and the Ardennes are my favourite for free roam, lots of stamina/health and they don't throw you on your ass when ambushed by a pack of wolves/bear/cougar. JUNK IN THE TRUNK: umm, one could select first person or 2nd and avoid fixating on the bouncing balls and.or purchase a long tail. I'm empathetic that the swinging orbs hypnotized and detoured you from the solution. YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. I have just made the same mistake twice, my second character purchasing an MFT (but don't tell @N7Creed). There's nothing on YouTube or anywhere more helpful out there than the spreadsheet at rankedboost dot com that ranks every horse for health, stamina, speed and acceleration. You can pick your own trade-offs. I had forgotten the MFT--for my tastes--is more gun shy and skittish near predators. The 'correct' war horse equipped with superior stirrups and saddle may well become my new addition proving very costly for the 24 karat gold braincramp, filed under "WTF was I thinking." 2
