I got the game installed and I just went through the cutscene at the beginning of the game. This is the point that I had problems before and couldn't run the game. Everything appears ok, some bottlenecking on default settings. I think this is because alot of settings are defaulting to ultra, which might be a bit to much for a GTX 1050 TI 4GB laptop GPU. I'm going to turn some of these setting down once I get to the daylight portion of the story mode game and I will report back. I think I noticed some lag before the cutscenes loaded, but I think this is due to ultra settings. Will report back later on.

Update: Went back into the game and same problems as before, everything is defaulting to low, tried changing settings to medium and the whole menu became sluggish. Took me 5 minutes just to quit the game. I don't now what's going on here.

i'm starting to change my mind about that 6/10 rate of this game. it's more 2/10. i'm starting to hate this game too much. i'd really love to play this, but it's absolutely impossible. at this moment i no longer have any doubt that this was the worst game i ever tried to play.

i can't find one single thing in the game that works. today i spent many hours trying to set a camp. after i got it i bought the hunting wagon, after that i spent a lot of time hunting, and then i got the usual error 0x20010006 before delivering the hunt. when i returned to the game, the camp disappeared, the wagon disappeared, and all hunt was gone.

this game is really a complete trash and the most hideous online game ever created.

I have better luck on the Xbox One over at my parents. The update mentions fixing a lot of things.

yesterday it was probably the best day of the game. a lot of things were working, but today it's all broken again. i think that rockstar doesn't have any competence to sell an online game.

I'm wondering if my problem isn't something with a setting in my computer. I contacted Nvidia through their live chat, but had to disconnect before I could get any answers. Will try again. The GTX 1050 TI 4GB in my laptop is more than capable of running this game beyond low settings, I'm not using that much of the GPU memory on low so when I bump the texture up to medium, there is no reason that my computer should run slow and freeze. Maybe it something with the CPU. Is there anyway to monitor the CPU while in the graphics setting menu?

I have a GTX 1060 on my laptop, and the only thing that seems to be working ok in my game are the graphics. so, check my settings, i hope it will help.

Thanks everyone!. I'll give both those a try. I can try those settings, but as soon as I make one change, the computer slows down in the menu and freezes.

I can't see the reviews improving anytime soon. A lot of people are furious with the online issues and many have gotten refunded because of it. I know the game is better now than when it first was released but there are still too many issues.

Multiplayer games seldom do well on Steam in terms of reviews when they port them over from consoles. Look at other major games like the CoD ones for example. Most have a 50/50 split of positive and negative reviews, or worse.

I'm at the of my rope with PC gaming. Nothing that I'm trying here with Red Dead Redemption 2 is working, Nvidia suggestions so far are not working, don't know much else I can try. Whenever I try changing any graphics setting and applying those changes, the game menu becomes so slow that I have no choice but to use the task manager to end process because it gets stuck.

Update: now after trying multiple suggestions from Nvidia online help, the game will not even run.

Damn man, I wish I could help you. It is hard to know what to suggest without having the computer in front of me. I know it can be furstrating but most PC games are not this hard to get running right. I am not sure what the heck Rockstar did wrong but they did something wrong. I know a few people who never had any issues with any game up until RDR2.

This is me just guessing, but I'm wondering if this is part of the known CPU GPU problem?

Some of those suggestions are the steps that customer service had me take.

I'm at the point that I need to decide if I should proceed with the desptop build that I was planning. I currently only have the Ryzen 5 2600 CPU purchased so atleast I'm not that much in debt for this build. But if I proceed with building this desktop with an RX 590 8GB, what guarantees do I have that I'm not going to have this propblem again. So I'm sure what I should do at this point.

well... forget my suggested setting.

they just infested the game with a ridiculous plague of snow and the game no longer runs properly on my system even in low settings.

for me this is kind of a fraud. i paid for the game a few weeks ago because i had a recommended system capable of running the game, and now i don't even have the minimum hardware required to play this and i didn't change anything. they completely killed the game now.

they made it hard not to hate this game.

(Combined the following from another thread created on the same subject)

today the game got infested with snow and with that the frame rate on my system reduced drastically. also it looks awful, with a bright white line in the floor in front of the character. when i saw it i immediately moved to new austin, but looks like that even the desert is infected with the snow plague.

is there any mod to remove the snow and increase the frame rate? i already reduced all settings on my graphic settings but it's still sluggish than before the snow plague with higher settings.

It's kind of hard to believe that this is anything other than a bad port job. Well some good news for you, the snow is just around for the holidays so you shouldn't have this problem long term.

i know that... or at least i hope so.

but they could have left new austin free of snow for players with older machines to be able to continue play during the holidays,

anyway, i found out that they forgot to add the snow to legendary bounties and free roam events, so i'll be doing that for now and searching for other missions without snow.

about the white line that appears in front of the character while moving on snow, i even end up testing with the max settings and it never disappears. it's weird.

You still having issues? Has anything improved for you?

I am hoping with the holiday events being over soon, they will go back to focusing on fixing bugs more.

I see the game is still on sale on Steam.

Was looking through the recent reviews and still a lot of people are complaining about the launcher and the game crashing. I have experienced it crashing a few times myself but I have still been able to play. I think at this point, the game is not worth the risk. It seems 30% of people who have bought the game be it on Steam or through Rockstar (for PC anyways) have trouble getting the game to run stable and it becomes unplayable.

......30% based on Steam reviews?  Ok, but realize many don't even bother to review the game on Steam or anywhere else for that matter. Those who have problems, I'd wager they tend to voice their opinion and / or seek help via these types of mediums.

.....point being that the actual number could be even lower as a whole.

I think he was giving a rough estimation as it says Steam OR through Rockstar. Likely basing it on feedback from people on communities like this one. Just my guess..

I got that but you missed my point.

So you are saying that the bulk of the problems is likely a lot less? Eh, I don't think it matters either way. People are going to buy it if they want to play it and if they run into issues, they will either put up with them or quit playing.

What I'm saying is that you can't make a guess at the percentage of people having issues from total sales based on Steam reviews.  Id say there's a good chunk but this "30%" is just a wild guess.  .....could be more, could be less.  We simply don't know.

I figured at least most of the bigger issues would have been fixed by now. It sucks knowing some people are still having issues playing and it will be 2020 in a few hours.

Hopefully things get sorted in January for most players. I know how much it can suck when you love a game and can't get it to work properly.

No based on complaints I have read everywhere online, not just reviews. I am only considering people talking about the game online, no one else. I have no way of knowing everyone who bought the game and their thoughts/troubles with it lol

I had forgotten about this thread but yeah, in all fairness you said "30% of people who have bought the game" so it appears we're in agreement as that was the point I was addressing.

A friend of mine from another forum got the game the other day off Steam. I was curious to see the stats and ratings overall and they seem to be improving, though still mixed. I have a feeling that this will end up being like most games that are on console and ported to PCs and get stuck in a mixed review limbo for good.

Oh for sure. People like to really bash Rockstar (not on here but other places) without realizing that almost all games that are made for console and then later made for a PC release (or made for a PC release at the same time) will have tons of issues. My sister plays that Sims game on PS4 and she is always complaining and I told her just to get it for PC. The issue is a two-way street.
