I don’t think that anyone is blindly flag waving for Rockstar. People here just have a shared understanding of what constitutes an “open world game” in that there’s a level of freedom of movement across the map and flexibility in that you can do. Theres a complaint here that Red Dead 2 can’t be classed as being “open world” because you can’t perform various actions or activities. The issue is with that complaint is that this kind of truest open world where you’re not limited by your imagination is probably decades away. As I said before, the scope of games right now are limited by time, money, resources, and the commercial drive to make more money than the game takes to develop. This isn’t fan boy flag waving, it’s an accepted understanding of how games are.2 points

Whilst I do not agree with the latest glitch of duplicating kills ( I hope R* will be rolling back the accounts of all involved in doing the duplication exploit ) I did like the fact we could go into passive mode. I enjoyed a few hours of no hassle hunting in tumbleweed with out a hole griefers attacking me in packs. Now it seems this way of entering passive mode has been patched much to the annoyance of many players. Some time`s we just want to hunt in peace if we want to run around shooting every one we go to showdown. Another thing is the last update to try and help combat griefers by making them a red dot on the map and a bounty for killing other players, Now where is the logic in doing this then adding kill other players in daily challenges...? This leads to non griefer players being punished for defending them self's against these griefers by receiving a bounty.. We need a choice of going into passive mode so we can just hunt in peace. Some times I don't want to have to check the map every 2 mins to see if some one is heading my way to grief me ( not that we can now after the last update ). And the parlay system is not a cure for this, Also the last update made hunting worse lower sell prices and longer spawn times if at all. R* really needs to address these issue as the way online is at the moment is not enjoyable for most. I don't want to have to grind away for hours to earn cash then lose my kills to some a hole pack of griefers. R* needs to listen to its fan base and not the how much they can squeeze out of players with pointless micro transaction. I love the whole concept of the game but the way it is at moment its not enjoyable its more frustrating than any thing.. Here's how I think it should be set up give players the option of passive mode with out limits. Add the kill players challenges to the showdown event only this will force griefers to have to do showdown if they want to clear all daily challenges.. sadly i will be shelving this game till these issues have been sorted out.1 point

I recently noticed that a strange light appears inside the schoolhouse at Fort Riggs. Yes, my first thought was graphical glitch, too, but I've been back on different nights and viewed it from different angles, yet the light still appears. In addition, approaching too close causes the light to disappear, but it will immediately return if I move away a certain distance. The above image is as close as I could get without it going out and viewing it through the binoculars or a rifle scope causes it to disappear, too. I wonder if it has anything to do with the feather icon that appears over Fort Riggs on the map after talking to a certain NPC?1 point

My loooong winded complimentary rant about this game. If you have a life just skip it, I bought Far Cry 5 a week before I bought RDR2, I bought RDR after I finished RDR2 the second time, because I didnt want the story to end, I have other games I used to love and play daily, COD WW2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, etc.. After playing RDR2 three times now and having just started the online part, I just cant play my other games. Rockstar really got this right despite any shortcomings with online. I was stoked about Far Cry 5 for a long time, I only played Far Cry 2, never saw another so I figured 5 has to be great right? I loved 2 it was really fun. It looked good, I played it a few times, and then I played rdr2, now I just cant bring myself to turn it on, lol. This game is too good and I want to tell every other game maker, hey, you, step it up!! this is what we need, these physics, graphics, AI, etc.. you want to make a ww2 game, fine, make it like this, make a fictional sci fi game, great!! like this though!! lol These npc's and random encounters and stranger missions and side stories, holy cow!! this is it!! this is how I would to see games coming out work on. honestly Im shocked as the money seems to be in online games and I am not a big online player, other than COD ww2 I really do not play games online, too many hassles and headaches, cheaters, lag etc.. So to make a game this deep on the single player side I feel like it was made for me When I started playing video games it was in the early 1970's Zaxxon was an early 3d game at arcades and later on I think Colecovision maybe? I dunno we had it though, The Adam computer that ran on cassettes, lol, not even floppys yet. I loved it and I remembered thinking, I hope games keep getting better. Then later Goldeneye came out and blew me away, but then Quake 2 came out on pc and if you had a decent gamer, lol like a 400 mhz p2 or something you could play it at 99 fps at 1600x1200 and we were blown away!! That started about 8 years of building gaming pcs and over clocking them long before you could actually do it like today, we used graphite pencils and connected circuits on the chip itself to unlock multiplier's and open up the Front side bus, because if you did it right, you could take a pc game and crank the settings to the max and still get 60 fps, for a few years this was all I did. then came Half life, and counter strike, then HL2, and Crysis, and veitcong, eventually Call of Duty world at war. All of that led to Red Dead Redemption 2 and it was a wild ride. Now that we are here, I can say this is the apex of gaming in my lifetime, the smoothest running highly detailed game I have ever seen, I am very thankful people are so dedicated to this that I was able to witness the entire evolution from pong to RDR2. I'm old, but I'm a gamer, always have been, as an adult I either have had gaming pc's or the latest consoles on 70" 4k tvs, it just makes me smile and think about 10 year old me, and how awesome this is compared to the old black and white spare tv in the basement playing Atari games like pitfall and breakout. End Rant, RDR2 is amazing, the sp side of it is unparalleled. Even the online side for a Beta is great! and only goign to get better, it is simply amazing and after playing it for a few months it is easy to get desensitized to it and forget how awesome this game really is.1 point

I know the game is still in beta and we have yet to see everything they have in store for the game... But what kind of additional features, mini-games, etc. would keep you interested and invested as a long term player?1 point

RED DEAD ONLINE BETA: SPOILS OF WAR OUT NOWNEW SHOWDOWN MODE PLUS LIMITED TIME CLOTHING ADDED TO THE CATALOGUE As we continue to add to and evolve the Red Dead Online Beta, we will keep expanding on and improving our Showdown Series. These player vs. player modes are tight, dramatic competitive matches that allow for quick structured gameplay sessions as well as being a great way to complete combat-based Daily Challenges. This week's new addition to the Series is Spoils of War - a frontier take on capture-style multiplayer. You can launch this new mode using the Featured Series tile in the Red Dead Online Beta launch menu, via the Quick Join option in the Player Menu or by navigating to the Featured Series signpost on the map. In Spoils of War, 2-16 players compete in this team-based mode to defend their stockpile and raid each other’s. Each team must steal loot from their opponent's base and return it to theirs, while defending their own stash. Whichever team steals the most by the end of the match wins. You can take on this new Showdown mode across a variety of locations including Fort Mercer and Valentine. As added benefits this week, you’ll get a 20% XP boost on all Showdown Modes and winning one Spoils of War match will earn you an extra bonus of 8x Dynamite Arrows that you can retrieve from the Post Office or your Camp Lockbox. The Tasman Outfit In its quest to offer the very latest and best in frontier supplies, the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue will be updated regularly as goods come and go. As you browse the Catalogue from week to week, select clothing from inbound shipments will be marked Coming Soon. When available, these same items will be marked as Limited Stock. If you see any items marked as Out of Stock, be sure to check back in future weeks as these items are sure to return again. Starting today, sellers have received their first shipments of rare clothing that will only be available for a limited time. This week, look for a pair of new outfits as well as a few other garments and accessories: The Tasman Outfit (Male only) The Danube Outfit (Female only) Tied Pants Hitched Skirt (Female only) Winter Shotgun Coat Gardenia Hat Squat Stovepipe Top Hat As we progress through the Beta we will work to improve Catalogue functionality and organization, while adding new items with unique flair that will regularly rotate through the shops. We’ve also made a few updates to the official Red Dead Online Beta Feedback website, where you can now leave us your thoughts on Spoils of War as well as general feedback on Controls via this page. As always, your feedback is appreciated and vital to helping us tune the Red Dead Online Beta as it grows and progresses.1 point

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it man. I am on xbox one x My friends all play on ps4's so.... there's that. I really dont play mutliplayer games that force you to play with others because again, my friends arent here and im sorry but I have a severe anxiety disorder and meeting new people when I feel so inadequate doesnt work for me, I wish I could I truly do, but I cant. I did get invited to a chat with the guys who were hassling me and they explained how they see a blue dot and like to follow him or her just to see what they do, they said blue new players often dont get things yet and are afraid of red dots, which is true enough and they said it is funny for them to just follow them until they do something stupid like attack or shoot out of frustration or confusion, nice enough guys but they ruined my game today, so how is that fun for everyone? Everyone likes to do things there own way, Im no different, I have no fun running around killing, I can play COD ww2 if that is what I want, and I often do, but here I want to level up with hunting and searching and completing challenges that dont involve hurting others. Again, thanks for your words and advice. I guess alone isnt going to work well at least not for now, maybe when this beta gets ironed out more I guess, maybe Ill try it again then. I was really looking forward to enjoying this world and maps within it but it just isnt fun.1 point

So afaik, this new "Update" was useless.. they litteraly unlocked SOME clothing, and the new "Spoils of war" gamemode, that looks pretty dull, and almost a copy of every other gamemode. I hope they troll at the R* HQ.. Because it looks like they are destroying their own game.. Mostly Online! People seem to be changing games.. And with DIV2 coming, i see this game needs something big! , and soon! I have been patient, and still is (ITS A BETA) but, i dont know why they dont take this more serious.. I see the same people in my feed everday when i login, that must be an indication, that no one is playing, unless those who still wish & believe.. But i am starting to be a bit skeptic!1 point

Yeah, that guide was invaluable for the exotics requests. I saved my Herbalist 9 challenge so that I did the exotics at the same time. I really didn't want to go looking for orchids twice. Some of the better youtube videos really zoom into the map to show you exactly where the plants are.1 point

I mentioned this before, but.. Would love to see the world come just as live as the single player experience. That could include: ¤ Brothels in the saloon / hotels. ¤ Baths being enabled again. ¤ Natural Beard & hair grow. ¤ More clothing options / Adding Eye patch, bandoilers, ponchos, and more! ¤ Able to have a single pistol duel in towns. ¤ Add poker and the minigames. It was avalible in RDR, so why not? (Just use ingame cash, and not gold bars) ¤ "Help a Stranger" random events occur in the world. (Like in singleplayer) ¤ Put in legendary animals again, so you can craft speciel items. ¤ Add Heists, train, robberies. ¤ Add more missions. ¤ With a world as beautiful as this... PUT in the snow again when you enter the Grizzlys! it was aweome in single player! ¤ If you want to explore deep, there should be a reward for doing so.. Random Treasure chests. ¤ Let us own properties, be able to buy carts, and let us work on our own farm, for xp, money and more. ¤ Bring back the cinema in towns (its fun!! come on) I already submitted all these to R* , but i doubt they even care1 point

@Kean, I understand your comment, but I hope you understand that from a player point of view your suggestions etc. feels like sending them into a "blackhole". There is no transparancy/backlog in what's usefull, scheduled or not!1 point

I would say that this game hit the sweet spot for old farts. Too old for Fortnite..............and to young for nursing home Nintendo.1 point

I understand where the OP is coming from. Ive never played an open world game, this was my first experience with such a thing, and I guess if that is your thing, you have played others and seen the evolution of this genre then I can see where a person might say in a literal sense, this is not an open world game such as XYZ for example, in those open world games you can do ........ and in all open world games you expect .......... but in RDR2 you are somewhat limited. Whatever Genre it technically is in, I love it, as far as an interactive massive world, it is great, and as a player with no other experience in this type of game, I really enjoyed it very much, the graphics, physics, npc's Ai, and other things are so over the top fantastic compared to ANY game ive ever seen or played and it really is very rewarding and emotional to play, the vista's and sunsets the horse and all animal animations for example are awesome. But if you bought it so you could do the exact things that you can not do, like load animals in carts, then I can see being a little disappointed in that it wasnt what you expected and you feel a need to share that with others. Im not sure here is the best place for it, since in here are all fans, these people already have and love the game, well most anyway, but again, I get what you are saying. That aside, did you enjoy the game? Did you even play it all or did you bail when it wasnt what you expected? Either way, I hope this is the start of things to come, if this isnt an open world, I cant wait to experience one with this level of physics and graphics, and hopefully we will start seeing them more and more now. I have Far Cry 5 also, I havent played it much yet, I started to then I bought this and I havent touched any game since, I just cant, after playing RDR2 nothing else hits the spot for me. PS. I went to New Austin as Arthur, caught the legendary fish, and animals and saw a few sights too before I went back to craft my talismans and trinkets. I personally think, if we had given R* another year and $5 million dollars more, they would have just kept on grinding details and coming up with even more, but sadly business is very serious and they had to stop at some point, clearly it is the most advantageous attempt yet in my opinion.1 point

I very much appreciate your candor this was my concern as well, I think I'll wait it out for some dramatic content or if I find a different game I like to play online I tried the free trial but I guess I've done it a couple years ago1 point

Hi Dewy, Online really doesn't have much to do with the campaign. .....at least not yet. RDO is really about your story as an online character. ....and even then it's really just about the activities within the game. At the moment, even that is limited but you can't really think of RDO as a storytelling adventure like the campaign was. It has some story missions, side missions with some characters you might remember from the main game, PvP events, hunting, fishing, an in-game economy, etc. This is also gameworld shared with a group of up to around 40 others. .....others who can kill you if they want to or simply interact. I'll be quite frank with you though Dewy..... Given your sharp criticism for the campaign, game mechanics, lack of certain features, etc., I would be remiss if I recommended that you pay for a PS+ account just to play RDO. If you have other online games that you are interested in as well then maybe, but not just for RDO. I would say you would be likely setting yourself up for a huge disappointment. Personally, I like RDO but then again, I really liked the campaign too. I've had a PS+ account since my PS3 days so that never really factors into my decisions. I try an online game and if I don't like it, I don't play it. In your case, your betting $60 just to try an experience you're not even sure you'll enjoy. If I were you I would do some more research, view a lot of in-game footage and maybe wait for a free weekend to try it out. Sometimes there are promotions that will wave the membership for a weekend to try and get folks without one to try out their online games. That's just my take on it.1 point

well first off let me say welcome to RDR 2 the first game was amazing and one of the best experiences I've had in video games so hopefully this one will be as great or even better than the first, of course that was because I was a part of a Crew that immersed themselves in the game along with other crews etc.. that being said I Believe in order to have the best experience you'd have to join up with people whether it be a just for fun crew, grinding crew, rp crew, competitive etc.. it will definitely help you to enjoy it much more than you would solo. Anyways playing solo is still a viable option, not sure if these were answered but Hunting is literally the best way to make money right now if youre trying to avoid conflict, otherwise replaying the online story missions is or stranger missions but players can attack during those. when I first started, I would hunt small animals such as foxes, turkeys, etc.. hunt enough and you would have enough (now meat) to sell and make decent money until you can buy a Varmint (what I did but you should skip this) so you can finally kill smaller game and get pristine conditioned carcasses, then save up and don't customize anything until you get a bolt action rifle so you can hunt bigger game, then I bought a fishing pole which was so damn worth it I only bought a Lake Lure for 1 gold and it has made me well over 3k dollars alone by just fishing sockeye salmon or steelhead trout. worth the gold. as far as customizing goes, I held off until I had all the weapons I wanted, that way I had several options when it came to combat, bought a different horse so I could travel faster and longer, then clothing to make my native character actually look more native and so forth. camp upgrades do absolutely nothing at the moment but refill your cores at a slightly faster rate if you were to go to your camp and rest. upgraded saddle bags do nothing at the moment either so don't buy those, Pump Shotgun is arguably the best shotgun in game so don't be like me and buy a repeating one, sawed off works great as well when you dual wield. you can sell herbs to a doctor or medicinal vendor forgot what they're called, you can also reset some awards so when you get to gold tier make sure you reset them if possible, fish and hunt for things you can put in your satchel that way if players want to kill you or w.e. you wont lose them. I cant think of anything else, but I started off with nothing and now I have 3 outfits that I made, 4 horses with upgraded saddles, all the guns I want/need fully customized and upgraded, I only buy express ammo. Im only level 68 so its possible to do this without pull a no lifer. Also one other thing I have many perks but I never upgraded them because 1. I play free aim so the ones I use now wont be useful when people cant instantly headshot you or aimbot you, 2. they cost a lot of money and since its a beta they will probably tweak them and change them as the full game comes out (they already did this once). hopefully this helped and idk what else to mention but I truly believe you should look for a crew you find interesting because it enhances the experience, and im extremely anti social so I can kind of understand, but as time goes on you will get comfortable enough with them to actually enjoy their presence. you don't have to but I think it would help. im on xbox as well so hit me up whenever my GT is the same as my name one these forums.1 point

Yeah, you gotta go to the butchers. Which makes hunting in the north eastern part of the map (my personal favorite area) really annoying as the closest is St Denis. And even though you can now fast travel with pelts, there's a chance of it losing quality (I've not seen it happen on pelts but on carcasses, so I'm just making a guestimate). And yeah, since the weather/days are seen and shared by the entire session. There's no actual sleeping. Just rest up and eat but be careful of eating too much as it's apparently very easy to gain weight now (before the recent update most people were malnourished). Damn, would be nice to get some more PS4 players around that actually are on when I am since I work the night shift and have to go to bed usually around 7pm. I have an anxiety disorder myself. Although I find that it helps in a game like this. I'm always alert and more often than not, me being anxious/paranoid has saved my butt from disaster (player and npc alike). Most people irritate me and I only can stand a select few. Honestly same, I bought Kingdom Hearts 3, The Last Guardian and Far Cry Primal and I haven't touched anything else since getting on red dead online. I work so much my time is valuable so I tend to spend it on what I enjoy the most.1 point
-
No need to upgrade camp/horse at all, ever. Hunt/fish/kill/pick everything the game presents to you and sell at a butchers or in the case of herbs you can't craft with yourself (including those vanilla flowers) at a doctors. Cash will mount up. Best buys are one good repeating rifle and one good shotty. Lancaster and pump imho being the best value for money. The repeater on it's own can cover 90% of all hunting and PvE/PvP requirements in the game and a varmint rifle takes care of almost everything else. I find free roam a pretty "anxious" place to wander about in as a loner but actually don't mind that at all. The few online missions are simple enough to do as well and will level you up very quickly so you can buy that fishing pole and better guns in no time P.S. A good tip to reduce the chances of meeting undesireables is to have yourself spawn in to online as far away from where you really want be as possible, leg it for the nearest fast travel point and then go direct to your camp which you have made certain is placed exactly 1 million miles away from where you were and all those lazy red dots that tend to stay more or less where they spawned in to the game, pew pewing each other ad infintum.1 point
