  1. Hey all, I've updated my Map of the Land. Like to thank Moosh89 for helping with this update. I created a Hi-Res JPEG image file this time. So it's a 8mb file, compare to the others versions that were 2-3mb. If anyone is having trouble downloading this map, I can create a lower res file. Download Updated v4 Map Here: http://www.mediafire.com/view/o72ii82nb8or99k/Red_Dead_Online_Map_V5.jpg Dragon's Updated v4: - Remove some fishing locations. 2. I do a lot of shooting with lever action rifles and revolvers (yes, it is possible in the UK, despite what you may have heard!) and auto-aim feels much closer to real life shooting than free aim with a console controller does. As I say above, auto-aim isn't perfect, I agree it's too accurate, especially on horseback, but if we're talking about realism, free-aim isn't the answer. How to solve Auto-aim, IMO: Adjust the size of the shot landing circle, and how quickly the circle shrinks, based on the following factors: - Weapon type; - is shooter on horse, or on foot; - note, different weapons to behave differently - a revolver is overall less accurate, but is easier to aim than a rifle from a moving horse; - is shooter moving, if so, how fast; - is shooter standing, or crouched; - is target moving, if so, how fast; So, to take one extreme, if you're galloping on your horse, trying to use your rifle to shoot a target who is also galloping on their horse, you are going to have a very large aiming circle - you'll get them if they're very close, but otherwise, it's pot-luck, and that circle isn't getting any smaller until you or they stop. At the other end of the spectrum, you crouch immobile behind a tree with the same rifle and line up on a buffalo that's standing still, your circle becomes a pinpoint very quickly. All of that is easily doable - some of it is kinda there already - and would reduce the cheesiness of auto aim, if, indeed it is a bit cheesy (I'm not saying it isn't).

  3. Well.. Heres hoping next week actually adds something besides Clothing and aaaaaaanother pvp mode. Wish R* would add some new horses. Not sure why its always clothing.

  4. The flaw in that is ‘shoot like real people do’. I’m pretty good with a pistol and a rifleman that has received military marksmanship honours many time in my army career. I’m even fairly decent with a shotgun. I’m fairly confident if it was real life, I could pull off much of the marksmanship the auto-aim is capable of letting me achieve. However, I can’t for the life of me make that ridiculous white dot move where I want it to with the unrealistic joystick action. It’s nothing like real shooting at all.

  5. Did you know the notorious "killer" Billy the Kid killed only 9 people in his life? Jesse James plus his gang were involved in 20 deaths but 7 were dudes from his own gang. All these outlaws were primarily robbers. Also, they did not shoot in the back if it could be helped. That was really frowned on and looked at as cowardly. I had one person watching me the other day, and I was keeping an eye on her, and so was the rest of the posse I was in. The second I turned my back, even with the rest of the posse standing there, she killed me and took off. Cowardly. The rest of the posse did catch her and kill her. She respawned and hung around but the way our posse works, if you don't bother us, we won't bother you so we didn't bother with her any more. Also, horses were not purposely targeted. Those that did get killed were accidental. They are not easy to kill while running. But people on here will shoot the horse out from under you intentionally because they aren't able to shoot you while you're mounted and moving (if you're playing defensive, people can't lock onto you). Cowards. Personally, I think if you want "reality", do away with the dead eye, auto-lock on, and marking and make people have to shoot the way real people do. Let's see how much of the stuff that goes on in-game would still be happening. If you want it in single player story mode, fine. But if you want a "realistic" world with other human players, just do away with them. To compare today's killer with those back then is not accurate. The morals today, or lack thereof, are completely different than back then, for one. Unsolved murders are not the same as murders for no reason.

  6. Yeah I think lately they are tweaking and nerfing aspects of the game to help out the low level newer players including this situation as it is clear that the higher pecentage of people shooting defensive mode players are newer players, and R* wants new players and doesnt want them to get discouraged right away and leave the game, so they nerf our ability cards that I worked so hard for and spent so much money on to level the field a little, they tweak the hostility system to not be as smart as it was supposed to be, and several other little things and it is getting irritating to be honest. We worked long and hard to get here, why should we lose our advantages so that newer players feel they have a fighting chance? Newer players dont need to be out attacking, they need to get busy grinding like I did to get to a point where they can actually win a fight, instead of making their whole game experience just hanging around the butcher taking cheap shots at passerbyes. I dunno but lately I am getting really bored with the game as a result the pvp is unplayable like this, the free roam is good but boring once you have done everything 10x, and without my cards working correctly it is frustrating, Like I would take to griefer hunting full time if my cards worked correctly, it woudl be fun, but I mean if Never without one was actually working and Slow and steady did what it said, etc.. A level 7 player with a carbine that hasnt been upgraded should not be able to one shot kill me when I am running those two cards, its just off. Then it would be fun, ok you think your goign to attack people? Well here is the sad truth buddy, your not, you cant kill a high level payer with maxed out ability cards with what you have, it just isnt gonna happen, this alone would shift those players from griefing to grinding to get better so they can grief. Oh yeah, sorry IMO.

  9. Hate to disagree with you, but your argument is true only for a very few. The overwhelming majority of people commit violent crimes for some reason or another (money/fame/need/revenge/religion etc). Unsolved crimes do not prove anything one way or another because they are unsolved ie no one was identified as the criminal, so a psychological profile of the criminal(s) could not be completed.

  11. Well.. to be fair.. If players spent all their time practicing free aim on horse back, they would have mongo level skills too..lol Honestly.. Aiming with a controller is not easy.. but its not hard either. Its less about getting constant head shots and more about hitting any part of they target you can.

  12. The difference between any of the special saddles with hooded stirrups is extremely negligible on any of the fastish horses. (MFT, Turk, Arabian, etc). But hey, if a minuscule difference that you won't ever notice is important to you or anyone else, then knock yourself out. In my opinion, and I prove it out every single time I play, you will not notice a difference in your game play if you don't spend all the gold and cash for the Black Arabian with the Nac saddle. Ride the fastish horse and special saddle with hooded stirrups that you like the look of. That's what is important. Trust me. It's kind of silly to me to ride around on something that isn't really what I prefer the look of just because of stats. I personally don't spend gold or money testing anything. If stats were that important to me, then I can be rest assured some numbercrunching YouTuber wannabe has already identified "Teh Best !Stats!!!1!!!. Plus, playing the stats game got old for me a very long time ago. This last saddle had a video comparing stats and identifying the best combo before I even logged in that day and saw the saddle for myself. If I would have bought them, I still wouldn't have been getting anywhere faster or with more stamina than any other fastish horse with special saddle w/ hooded stirrups combo. I advise all to save gold and money for other things. Unless you enjoy spending gold or cash mixing and matching horses and saddles of course, then by all means have fun!

  13. Well, free-aim works for you and that’s just great @HuDawg. To me auto-aim feels more like real life shooting than moving a white dot around... and sure, things do ‘autotrack’ in real life shooting. Maybe not computer assisted, but with a little practice you’ll raise a weapon, be on target and lead/track it if it’s moving all without much conscious effort. I’m with @Harlock1796. If you want more realism, free aim isn’t the answer. Changing the way auto-aim works is. If I’m forced into free aim, I’ll likely just shelve the game myself, get my cowboy guns out and sign up for a cowboy action match at the range lol.

  14. My biggest problem with them is having to sit around and wait for the match to end after you're eliminated. It's especially painful during the back half of the match when everybody stays in one spot refusing to move for fear of dying. It really drags the match on.

  15. I noticed we're getting a lot of Mexican/Spanish themed stuff lately with the clothing especially. One of my new favourite things to do is to ride the little Donkey found at Flatneck Station all over the map, especially down to New Austin. Why these aren't available as mounts is beyond me. It's got a smidgen of health and stamina but it's a surprisingly hearty little bugger! If you time your spurring just right, it goes like the Energizer bunny. It's pretty fast too! I haven't tried finding a Mule yet. That little "Ahss" has my heart and my humour LOL Look at the jealous scowl on my horse though, HAHA "...that B*TCH!"

  16. At least it looks like they separated out all the single elimination pvp games and put them into their own category. I hated those and now we won't be forced to play them if we go into any of the showdowns. It might not be getting to choose your game, but it's the next best thing imo.

  18. This. Free aim with a console controller is crappy. No doubt it's a skill, of sorts (like being good at Mario carts, for example) but it has nothing to do with realistic shooting. I have a suspicion that most of the people on the forum who call for free aim are people who play a lot of first/third person shooters and believe themselves (maybe with justification) to be better than most at free aiming. Personally, I think the auto aim could do with a little work, and how accurate it is should be situational. For example, if you are on a trotting/galloping horse the shot reticle/bloom should never go below a certain size, whereas if you are on foot, crouching and not moving, you should zero in quickly and very accurately.

  19. Nah. They’re fairly minor boosters for the most part, a far cry from cheat modes... and absolutely everyone has access to the same various cards and counters to them (level dependant). I see them more as just a special ability you can choose to train in, much like any other RPG type character abilities.

  20. Best Foods for weight management/nutrition - Cheese Wedge - Good bump to Health and Deadeye cores with fortification - doesn't make you fat. (as fast) Chocolate Bar - Good bump to Stamina and Deadeye cores - doesn't make you fat. (as fast) Raw Carrot - Good bump to all cores - doesn't make you fat. (as fast) Good for your horse when out of oatcakes too! Prime Steaks (Buffalo) - Puts weight on fast! - Hop servers every 4-5 pieces you eat. You'll be a fat@ss quick! Minty, Oregano, Thyme, Big Game Meats - Use only for competitive events for the Core fortifications they provide - Will make you fat! Alcohol - Lots, and lots, of Alcohol. And Cigars! To round out the occasional top off on Dead eye and Stamina. If you stick to Cheese Wedges, Chocolate Bars, Cigars and Alcohol you will be able to maintain the right weight that you want pretty easily and still keep your cores pretty close to max at all times. I believe cheese, Guarma Rum, Chocolate bars and Carrots provide the best overall core replenishment for the money without dramatically increasing your weight like prime beef and big game meats, which should be used only for targetted situations where you may need the additional perks or weight gain. Canned foods, biscuits, salted meats, etc. are all pretty much a waste of money, time and calories. They simply do not provide enough core replenishment or fortification to be worth saving and eating. You have to eat too much of it to actually provide any worthwhile replenishment. Next week, on the Chuck Wagon Hour with Cripps McGee ... "How to bone filet a Steel Head Trout." (Disclaimer - this is just from memory (at work) and may not be 100% factual)

  21. Use whatever term you like, but I’m talking about things like when I have to go piss downstairs I’ll go into defensive mode far away from any action and hide myself in a cluster of trees. When I come back one guy suddenly lassoes me for a drag, the other guy opens fire on me while being dragged, and the third guy shoots my horse. Or the people who stand outside a general store waiting for some to come by and hitch their horse so they can shoot them in the back of the head, etc., etc., etc. If that’s what you enjoy doing to other players and having done to you, indeed the highlight of your night, I don’t know what to say. I ride around in free roam in offensive mode and I’m wary of everyone and always ready to defend myself. That’s a whole different story. This other stuff I call griefing for lack of a better term and that seems to be the label that’s been adopted by the community. There’s no reason for it. Most mature people frown upon it and wish it would be addressed. edit: Add to that the possies who stand next to the stranger mission icons knowing that as soon as you complete the mission successfully, the game will respawn you right there next to the station with no gun at the ready, no horse, and the three posse members can then immediately blast you with shotguns. No chance whatsoever to defend yourself. You respawn again and if you whistle for your horse, they kill it. If you don’t want to call them griefers, call them cowardly a-holes. They don’t love fighting or love hostile interactions or anything of that nature. They are there for no other purpose than to ruin other people’s games and try to piss people off. Of course they don’t consider it a problem, they are classic internet trolls.

  22. Cascadian Hobo is a middle-aged man with too much time on his hands who enjoys Saint Denis by moonlight, long walks on the Blackwater beaches and that gurgling sound when the arrow hits home on a headshot followed by the whoosh of equine flatulence that wafts over the newly minted corpse as he and his horse take the lead in a Target Race. Cascadian left a respectable Pacific Northwest home at a respectable age to seek fame in The East. It proved too fickle a food, and his coincidental lack of enthusiasm towards the pursuit of fortune eventually left him jaded, forlorn and headed west in a boxcar. Not without his resources, his wide range of interests has given him significant skills, experience and insight which he he is maybe too willing to share with fellow travelers. Address mail to Cascadian Hobo c/o XBox general delivery or possibly watch for hobosign appearing from u/cascadianhobo at r/reddeadonline. (Seriously, looking for other adults to chat with, dork out over game mechanics, strategy, theorycrafting, min-maxing and otherwise work together in order to save ourselves some grief and remain competitive in PvP despite our advancing years and failing faculties.)

  23. I am sick of new content to just get a random server drop. They did put out new error codes that mean nothing with the last update tho. I will be happy with no new content but plenty of bug fix's and server drop and crash resolution. Document the darn known bugs and provide ETA on fix's.

  24. Agree and to extend that argument, I have that silly hat-on ability card. Taking five bullets on a speeding horse and not being launched out of the saddle? Add that to the physics improvements as well.

  28. Shooting from horseback? The mongoleans were known for their remarkable skills firing their bows from horseback. If you`ve spendt most of your life on a horseback then shooting is no challenge, but the "red dot" might be a bit bigger. About free aiming; can be learned but as others says it is not easy with a controller.

  33. Well.. you had plenty of training in shooting, so shooting for you would be a lot easier then someone who didn't have any training. Which is basically why auto aim makes this game too easy on all fronts.. Free aim, with some practice, becomes much easier to use...just like shooting in real life. The dot simply represents where you're aiming. And at no point, can anyone.. Regardless of how good they are. Have the gun manually track and lock onto targets. No one has to fight gun lock on when picking targets in real life. With auto aim, a blind person can shoot a bird in the air while riding on horse back. With free aim, you have to actually slow down the horse or stop, then actually aim. Every shot counts. Only thing I can say is, you can tweak the dead zone/aim sensitivity to make free aim feel better. Even a few days of using free aim, its starts to feel more natural. Like I had to tell one my friends from work who was complaining when I got him to try auto aim. He says 'How the hell am I supposed to shoot things while on a horse". And I told him. "Calm down, slow down, stop then shoot.. OR ride as fast as you can and just blind fire'.

  37. The only issue I have is if I try to ride in first-person. (I normally play third-person) and I find the aiming and horse movement gets all screwy. But I put it down to not really liking first-person in this game.

  38. I ran into this situation with griefers, I spawn into Saint Denis & right away notice 3 player West of me. I ran to the closest house to take cover & activate Def mode. At this point I hear dynamite blowing up all around me. I don't get hit, I jump a few fences to get away from the players & get on my horse and ride away. I see on my app they are following me and I hear more dynamite going off right behind me, but they don't hit me. So non of them turn red for me. I head to the nearest shop, which was the barber. Inside I notice the 3 players waiting for me outside. I look & of course they are in the same posse. I wait a bit and notice on my app there is another random player appear & goes into the saloon down the street. I see the 3 player leave me & head for the saloon. I've never done this before so I wanted to see what would happen. I'm still in def mode, so I ride up to the 3 griefers just outside of the saloon. 3 griefers are shooting in at the one player inside, as the one player shoots back. They don't notice me, so I throw a stick of dynamite & kill 2 of the 3 griefers. Right away I'm put into Medium hostility. So I just take off North out of the city. The 1 griefer that was left alive tries to follow me, by the time his horse gets to him. I'm long gone & no longer see them on the app. I start my timer on my phone to see how long I will stay in Medium hostility. It only took 2 mins for me to be able to activate Def mode again. In my opinion it should take a lot longer than 2 mins for me to go back to Def mode. Since technically it looked like I was the aggressor. I thought I read somewhere on R*, that if you attack someone in Def mode yours suppose to have increase hostility. I thought I would have high hostility instead of medium hostility and didn't think it would only be two mins to go back to Def mode. I'm not proud of myself for attacking players in Def mode, but they did start it.

  40. Well not true, I spend a lot of time grinding, and trust me you notice a difference when your drain rates are so stacked, I dont have to feed my horse anywhere near as often as I woudl with almost all the other saddles, there are about 4 or 5 saddles that are kind of similar then it drops off steeply and yes, there is a huge difference, it isnt just speed and quickness, it is the stamina and health but really mostly the stamina, without that saddle I have to feed my horse about 4x as often and it adds up and you have to pick carrots everywhere you find them, with the panther, ratttlesnake or beaver saddles it is cut way way down. When you get to a level where you can get one of them and you have the $$ so you dont mind buying something give it a try, there is a big difference I noticed it immediately There is a reason there are stats, level requirements and higher prices. You pay more and have to earn by xp but then the pay off is savings and less headaches

  46. Today I had 3 incidents, it is funny some days I wont even see another person and other days well..... Sorry this came out so long, let's call it "War and Piss" a novel by an outlaw semi griefer. So, I spawn into just north of St Denis, not my ideal spawn in, but ok, here I am, I figured I can travel to Tumbleweed and do a few daily challenges, then come back, but I see 4 boar and I need the fat so, I shoot them, as I am skinning one of them, some kid comes by on his horse and tries to lasso me, well it didnt work, obviously and so I said to him, nope. Well that was it, lol he jumped off his horse and approached so I decided ok, I warned ya, and I shot him, making me the bad guy but oh well, I have boar here and a bush I need for daily challenges, etc..otherwise I would have taken off, anyway he spawned a ways off pressed charges and then took a shot at me, I then remembered I am in PIB mode, so I quickly swapped my cards to Slippery B, so he cant target me, and I equip a dyna arrow, lob one over to him, and he is gone, doesnt come back, encounter over. I grab my boars, and huckleberry and I move along. Down in Gaptooth Ridge 10 minutes later I am about to head out for a cougar or two, but a hideout pops up, I look on the map, no one around, I figured, ok, I ll clear it quick I get over there and start clearing and here he comes, some try hard, level 18, figured this level 141 needs help? SO I say into my mic, Dude, how you gonna crash another mans hideout, beat it, I dont need you, but ok, He doesnt listen, so I say ok if you want to help, do me one favor, dont kill the leader til we get him to surrender, no sooner did I say then he kills him, this irritates me, so I say something like, nice going dumbass. I dont remember exactly but I said something snarky, but hey he deserves it as far as I am concerned, if he were in front me I would have said much worse, but anyway, ok I start looting, this try hard runs up and tackles me, I struggle for a few minutes, we fight a little, I go for a gun and he gets the best of me, no problem, I spawn a little ways off, I still have my bow equipped, I ride over in Slippery, he is hiding, lol I said "I can see you hiding there dumbass, get a clue dude" then I lobbed a dyno arrow at him and poof, he goes flying, it was really funny, looking back I should have grabbed a video, but I didnt think of it. Now,. I provoked him yes, but cmon, dont be a douche. Ok, I see a red blip running toward me, I take a shot and kill him, then I see another and do the same, turns out the second wasnt him, lol it was some level 127 player who must have wondered into the area and I accidentally mistook him for the troll. So, he takes a shot at me, I kill him again, as he spawns in I explain look man, sorry I thought you were that other douche, he just crashed my hideout and then attacked me, so I was dealing with him, I didnt realize you had entered the scene, so, Im sorry about that but get over it. Well he got over it alright, he took to chasing the level 18 player who started all this, lol I just stood on the top of a hill on my horse with exploding rounds ready to go and watched as he chased that little fkr far away, it was quite satisfying. Anyway in that case I was the griefer, I didnt mean to be, but to the level 127 guy, he was just rolling along and I killed him, so to him, I was a griefer. I am glad he heard me and understood the issue and even took it further and decided to deal out his revenge to the guy who started the trouble in the first place. The point is, it is easy to shoot the wrong guy at times if you dont pay attention, I wasnt in fight mode so my attention wasnt on who is this, rather let me set up so I can deal with whoever it is. Anyway, in the end I re-spawned far far away to avoid further action and get back to daily challenges, Got my 2 cougars, and then a person in need and got off again. So, if you do get shot, look at the whole picture, maybe you were accidentally targeted and if so it isnt worth your aggravation and stress, mistakes do happen. The other day I was shot in Rhodes by a low level player, BUT I know he was in the midst of shooting at several other players, I just got in the mix by accident, I didnt get mad, or get even, I just rode off back to what I was doing, because I know it wasnt on purpose or directed at me. You have to pick your battles. Just alwasy have a defense set up ready to go, I keep a hunting profile equipped but in a pinch I can swap into fight mode in about 2 seconds, and I am an advocate for you shoot me I shoot you back x 10 and everyone you ride with too, so dont bother with me unless you really want to go. So far so good, As others said, yeah trolls suck and can be a nasty distraction, BUT they do add a level of realism to the game, I mean drunken idiots would ambush people at times, so, ok, when it happens, you can either run away, stand and fight or whatever opportunities you can think of based on the situation. But, dont get stressed, if it bothers you and you arent looking for that type of attention, then there are things you can do. Play in offline mode, block players that shoot you, just hit pause, online, free roam and then ok, hit another server, etc.. and then get back to it, it isnt worth getting upset over it. IT will never end and once you are better equipped it can be a nice change if pace to kill a few try hards who thought they would harass you. At level 72 I think the OP said he was, should be well enough equipped to handle about anything thrown at him, if he has been applying himself and maxing out his cards and buying pamphlets, remember most peopel attacking you have not done that and arent that well equipped.

  48. Either fight them or leave. It takes less than a minute to quick join showdowns, then exit. They are no longer a problem. The only thing that stops me from quick joining pvp when being killed repeatedly sometimes is my ego. Then I remember I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks about it. F@#$ them. It's my time. My time is the most valuable thing in this game. I'll not have it wasted by children or adults with child like minds. It's obvious in this game when someone isn't a fair fight, doesn't want to fight, or is trying to get away. Players that keep on killing when they know these things are just plain ignorant, childish and frankly unbalanced mentally I believe. Something is just not right in their head.

  49. This was my calling card in story mode and when I started playing online. Or tossing them to the bottom of a nearby ravine. 😂 Speaking of funny stories, I had some nutcase challenge me over a pronghorn kill the other day - you read that right, a fecking pronghorn! How many are there of these bloody things in the game?? Anyway, after realising I was in defensive mode and he couldn't auto-target me he decided to throw a fire bottle at me. His plan backfired however and next thing I knew his horse was bolting with his flaming body on its back. Karma exists in red dead online!
