shellbell12003
So R* implemented anti- grief measures which I believed helped. But is poaching the new griefing? Over the last couple of days I've had other players loot the NPC's I've shot (during an ambush that the player just happened to ride by as I began looting), skin my kills and very brazingly took a 3 star deer off my horse. I did not retaliate in any way because this is a just a game and at the very least I got the XP. However, it is extremely frustrating. I spent real money on a game that I enjoy playing less everytime I play.
The_Liquor
That would be more thieving than poaching... poaching is what you’re doing loading your horse with as many dead animals as you can and stuffing your satchel full of fish lol. honestly, it’s annoying. But fits more in the line of being a thieving outlaw than riding around and murdering people for no particular reason. I’d just stop them, myself. Either with my fists or my guns, situation dependant. And if they get the upper hand and get away with my stuff, oh well. They won fair and square (assuming they don’t just make it into an excuse to grief you endlessly. Then they’re just being di*ks) Edited June 19, 2019 by The_Liquor

C20Dragon
I agree, just shoot'em, grab your stuff and ride away. As I notice the other day you will only be Medium hostility for 2 mins. Then you can re-activate def mode & go sell your stuff or do whatever.

I think stealing someone else's stuff is a legitimate part of the game. I am definitely not in the camp of "it's the Wild West, so shooting random strangers in the back of the head is all part of life's rich tapestry" that's BS, but it is the Wild West, so helping yourself to a carcass off a poorly supervised horse seems like a legitimate activity, for an outlaw type. DNMNetTech
Well historically speaking a posse is a body of men, typically armed, summoned by a sheriff to enforce the law. Now to define law that needs enforcing, in the game, is a bit tricky. The posse thing, I think we all know how to form them. They used to be volunteers not just a set specific group of individuals tho many were. 1
DNMNetTech
I did have a guy remove my fish from my horse a couple weeks ago. So.. I removed his horse from my fish. Took my fish back off the ground and rode away. 1

I wouldn't steal a deer off someone's horse (as opposed to picking one up if I found it laying unclaimed on the ground, as I mentioned - I'd do that if there were no players in the vicinity, and it seemed to just be going to waste). I'm boringly 'white hat', and never shoot first or mess with other people playing their game. However, I do think that someone stealing a deer, or whatever, is a fairly 'legitimate' activity for an outlaw. I've caught a couple of people doing it to me in the past, and I have, equally legitimately, shot their face off. In the absence of being able to do proper 'hold ups', (trains, stores, stage coaches etc) stealing people's carcasses is virtually the only legitimate paying outlaw work a player can do in free roam. I quite like the fact that they're going to the effort. Game is so plentiful and easy to hunt, it's clearly more efficient to go and get your own damn deer, rather than trying to take mine and getting a bullet in your brain for your trouble. I do not commend people for doing it, but neither do I condemn them in the same way that I do for random killing. Stealing someone's stuff because its worth money to you is not the same level of d!ck move as shooting someone for no reason and no profit. Expect to get shot for it, though. Messing with someone's stuff - horse or cargo - should count as a hostile act, and turn the offender red, but I don't think it does.

No, the above also falls under the naming and shaming rules. Even with evidence that shows someone is trolling, cheating, etc. in the game, we do not allow the naming & shaming or "calling out" of any other players and/or fellow members regardless of the circumstances. We urge folks to use the in-game reporting features and R* Support site to report such activities and to submit their evidence. If a member here is being trolled or harassed in these forums, via PM or otherwise, report the post and/or contact one of us (the staff) so we can handle it. From the bits I saw of the video, that example should be fine as C20 blurred out the offender's name. If anyone has questions about the rules, please ask us.: Name and shame: Please don't be tempted to"name and shame" or call out other players in Red Dead Online that you might have had a dispute or other issue with. We don't allow those sorts of posts.

If I post a clip of something in game and it just so happens to show a players Gamer Tag.. Im not gonna go out of my way to blur their name out. Its just a game.. Naming and shaming is more about going out of your way to actually do that. Like "Stay away from this guy" and actually making a point about their gamer tag. Showing a game clip that just so happens to show someones gamer tag due to game play design, is pretty much the opposite of naming and shaming.

When you call out a player because of their actions like in C20s example (even made a derogatory remark toward him) , that would be considered naming & shaming and he was right to blur it out as it would have otherwise been deleted and subject to a warning. The whole thread was about players who poach and those that do it. C20 recognized that he would be naming & shaming and kudos to him for respecting the rules by blurring it out. You can't get a more clear cut example of naming & shaming than this. I don't have a problem with someone disagreeing with this rule but I would have a problem if they chose to ignore it because of it. It's not up for debate. In this case, it would have been naming and shaming if the user name was included. .....simple as that.
C20Dragon
The only reason I posted the video in this topic, was because the 1st post talks about players griefing / trolling or poaching said player. I just wanted to show members on this forum that it could even happen in a Fishing Challenge. A player griefing / trolling me by trying to prevent me from fishing & winning. I was hesitated to make this post due to the quote I used, my comments about the player & providing a video of proof. I didn't want to be a troll or griefer myself & wanted to follow the rules of the forum. So I blurred out the name. Hoping that it would comply with the rules. I thought Liquor's quote was a perfect representation of what that person was doing to me and to the member in the 1st post. Sorry, I won't do it again. If there is a next time, I'll just post the video without any derogatory comments.

Darkvicar
Does GTA have "role" mechanics? I hope the new mechanics will not help make the game more insular or sanitised. It would good for them to increase player interaction rather than diminish it. As for nicking stuff off others horses it annoys me but it is game mechanic in story mode Arthur could help himself to cargo as NpC's lead their horse past. I think R* want more not less player interaction and this is an easy way to promote hostile interactions. Is it happens in camp, I do think Cripps should give them both barrels! He would finally earn his keep. Edited June 22, 2019 by Darkvicar

Miltonastic
The game needs thieves and cuttthroats, but those thieves and cuttthroats are going to have to accept the retribution without whining and pretending they're "being grieved". This player was lucky shellbell didn't decide to take their head clean off and feed it to the gators. 2
