Fishing/Boating?

So I was thinking about it and in the online end of the game, I think it would be cool to have areas of water you can go out on a boat and actually fish. I know this isn't generally something Rockstar would do in their game but it would be a cool way of finding hidden treasure as well as adding in some new mini-games or online missions. What do you guys think?

Not that this isn't a good idea but this doesn't fit into the game. I would be fine with boats but fishing isn't really something we need for online play.

I second this. The boating thing can be cool and useful but fishing? Nah. There will be plenty of other animals to have fun with in the game.

A house boat would be pretty cool if you could save, change outfits, etc. plus sail it along a river and keep it wherever it was last moved to when you saved.

I can't say fishing has ever really been something I want to do in most of the games I play but as a side activity I guess it can't hurt for those interested it in (I'll probably give it a bash in Far Cry 5 just for kicks!).

What do you have against tents? (LOL)

Yeah this would be pretty BA. I would love and actually prefer to have a small boathouse over a frickin tent.

Boating can be cool, especially for an online angle. Like if you are on the run from someone, you can hop in a rowboat and escape them.

This is the only way I see it being useful. And unless it is part of one or several missions in the main story, I can't see it being a think online either.

Ehhhhh fishing will be part of SP so it will automatically be available online. This is the way that this works.

So fishing will be a thing then? For online, that is cool. I don't care to be doing it but knowing we won't drown in puddles is a plus.

You don't swim when you go fishing, so it doesn't tell us anything about that. But you can presume we'll be able to swim.

How hard is it really to just allow us to swim anyway? Like maybe make it where you just tire out after a while or can't swim long in deep water. There would be so much you could do with allowing us access to water without a boat.

I mean I would assume we can get in the water and not die on impact. Have to make sure Arthur hasn't eaten beforehand though. You know what they say.

I've been wanting something useful for the water in GTAV, but it has never happened, so if the water is like GTAO freeroam then it'll be useless as well. I can't think of to much old west wise where a boat would apply, most cowboys were probably fishing with a cane pole off the banks of the rivers anyways. Not sure how boating would be applicable to the game. Though some riverboats like on the Mississippi would be cool

There’s boats. There’s fish. We’re responsible for supplying the camp with food. ???? I think there’ll be fishing.

Yeah, that may be but at least we are responsible for that that blonde will be supplying to the camp.

I don't mind having this as an option or even part of quests. It is just something to do on the side as well.

As boring as it sounds on the surface, I think fishing challenges actually sounds rather cool if it's done right.

I'd love to go on a hunt for "the big one," especially if there's a legendary huge catfish in a lake on a mountaintop somewhere, and you not only have to find the lake, but you have to find the right bait and gear, THEN bring it in.

Imagine having to haul a monster fish down to your horse like a dead body, then triumphantly bringing it into town. Sounds cool to me!

This is pretty much in FC5, not sure if you've played it.

Nope. In fact, I didn't even know what the abbreviation stood for until I looked it up.  ????

So you think RDR2 would deliberately avoid something like that for that reason?

No I don't think so, I mentioned it in case you wanted to check it out. I doubt R$ would base anything they do on any other games tbh, they're too big for that.

FC5 was the only title I actually regretted buying in a long time.  Not just disappointment but actual regret for a # of reasons.

That being said, can you see fishing being more entertaining for longer in RDR2? Especially if they incorporate the things listed above?

I can already see R* doing a better job than Ubisoft in several areas in regards to gameplay.  I have no doubt that would hold true for a mechanic like this if they were to implement it in RDR2.  ....so yes, I can see fishing being more entertaining in RDR2 but I think it's more about the whole package (e.g. mechanics, discovery, ambiance, multiple activity choices, etc.) that helps make a difference.

DEFINITELY the whole package. That's a staple for games by Rockstar. Too too many companies rely on one great functionality of their game to try to carry it through the garbage of the rest of its dynamics. But with most games by Rockstar, often almost ALL dynamics are fantastic.

It's hard to imagine them being able to raise the bar from the original, but I feel like they're going to -- and handily so.

. . . just wish it hadn't been an almost nine-year wait fer it.
