RDR2 Private Demo Reactions

Apparently, at the end of a week long GameStop conference for its employees, Rockstar decided to show some previously seen gameplay footage to them. This resulted in mixed reviews. As far as I am aware, this is the same gameplay demo they showed to a select few media groups back a few months ago. At the time everyone was blown away by it, but now the employees felt inclined to post their feelings about their experience on Reddit. More than a few of these are negative, or at least in part. What do you think about this? I suspect that their viewpoints were biased in that this was the last day of a very long week and not all of them understand what immersion means. I personally am a bit put off by this. From their descriptions, a “ Horse riding simulator” is exactly what I am looking for, instead of instant gratification you tend to get in FPS games nowadays.

Maybe some of them decided to do it to get attention? I would never put that passed people online these days, especially reddit.

I really don't care what some GameStop employees thought of what they saw. I fully intend on playing the game for myself as should everyone else. Tastes vary and while these guys really may have meant what they said, it is just a handful of opinions.

I heard about this but didn't read any of the comments. I really don't care what some possibly casual players have to say about a game I have been excited for, for like 3 years now. They get nothing out of this from me. I don't even pay attention to game critics. You think I will pay attention to some people who work for a dying video game store? Not to mention, I hate that place. lol

I think its just down to personal taste. As hard as it is to believe, we need to remember that there are actually some people who don't and won't enjoy this type of game. Big maps, open world, side activities etc is not for everyone.

If i was a Gamestop employee and i was shown a trailer of a new COD or Battlefield game, I would have had the same reaction, because I don't like FPS games.

Yeah, I saw this news.  .....but they lost me at "Gamestop employee".

I hate the stores for several reasons and quite frankly, I never thought of their employees as being any sort of reliable, objective source of info on the subject of gaming, hardware, etc.  Very similar to my experiences with most auto part stores.  Just because someone works there doesn't make them a subject matter expert.  Many don't know their "you know what" from a hole in the ground.

@Kean_1exactly!! This was a business meeting rather than a show for actual fans. Therefore you could expect people there that weren't interested in the game at all...it was a business  screening with the goal to show Gamestop employees how to sell RDR2. In fact, some of them haven't even played RDR just yet.

On the other hand i can't blame them. I love my job but i hate corporate meetings, boring as hell and not very helpfull...

The fact they were falling asleep as they were walking about and rambling on their horse is the precise reason why I can't wait for the game. A slow-paced environment where I can literally get lost is exactly what I'm hoping for.

In fact, I may just turn off the minimap completely during my first few hours and just wander where the path leads me.

I might have to copy you on that one, interesting idea. I hope they have a more minimalistic choice for the HUD to go alongside the classic minimap. Maybe something along the lines of the Skyrim bar HUD.

They called it the "walking simulator" because the guy playing the demo only walked around for a while and didn't do anything else. The guy doing the demo was boring, but I'm sure he was under strict instructions not to show too much or any real gameplay. Plus, most have said it's still going to be a fantastic and beautiful game, just the demo was boring. Another has said that those who enjoyed the first will enjoy this one and is still a GOTY contender and they won't judge on one mission. Someone who claimed to have dozed off and hadn't played the first RDR1, still said the demo made them excited to play it, so I would totally ignore all the negativity that came out of the Gamestop employees. I always feel GS employees are the type to love games like WoW and Minecraft and probably boycott games like GTAV and don't fully understand these types of games.

Damn right! It's what R* does best and what their fans appreciate.

I got a little angry actually with the comments they made, and quite frankly thought whatta bunch of unappreciative f*cks

While i know everybody is entitled to their own tastes and opinions, if you hold stupid ones and you have no taste, go play call of duty.

and YEAH, i'm sure the peeps in charge were giving the people strict instructions so as not to reveal too much- so if you find roaming around a beautiful world on an awesome beast 'boring', you need to go. and go now. hahah

I'm still a bit  angry.

Another Gamestop preview is going down in Germany right now. Attendees are already giving more positive feedback and even claiming another trailer is coming soon.

I live in an area oversaturated with Gamestops, and tend to frequent more than one in a given week just because I like to pop in when I'm out and about for other stuff (like beer).  All I can tell you is that Gamestop employees tend to be like snowflakes (and not in a pejorative way) in that each one is unique: some will spend 45 minutes telling you about how amazing the new Transformers game is, and others will try to get you to buy a Hentai import game from Japan.  My point is, RDR2 isn't going to be for everyone (hell, I shoot my son down multiple times a day about downloading Fortnite on the PS4--it's just not for me, and I don't want him playing it anyways--he's 8).

Welcome to 2018! Everyone is self-pretentious and loves the smell of their own farts. I think the boom of the internet, social media, and general appeal of being "liked" or even hated online has gone to people's heads.
