It's not surprising. The Beta has been active for almost a month at this point, and without having clear expectation of what (if anything) is going to change, there's little motivation for players to become invested. It'd be one thing if a player or permanent posse could pool funds and purchase buildings for sale to operate as a base that could be upgraded, or have a goal to work towards other than simply "ranking up", but as it stands now, there's no true endgame. There's no instances/dungeons for the RPG crowd No personalized customization other than a camp and clothing. There's nothing elusive and tangible for players to chase. The only thing is ranking up, and with the forced PvP element, a player can't grind in peace, so there's no incentive for casuals or PvE players to stick it out until something is implemented that is more in-line with the experience they want from the game. Players need to be able to purchase or commission a hunting cabin/lodge/farm/whatever and work towards furnishing it. I should be able to hunt a legendary buck and mount it's head on the wall of my Evil Dead-inspired cabin overlooking a river. Instead, I have to be aggrieved by trolls and work towards.... a new hat? Nobody wants that experience, that's why nobody is playing. Like it or not, the casual PvE crowd is going to be larger for this game in terms of player volume than the PvP crowd. Having the open world be a PvP slaughterhouse doesn't segregate the players who want nothing to do with that style of play, so there's yet another reason to stay offline. What they should look at is the ESO model, which has literally everything this game needs to retain a robust player base that will spend money. There are other solutions, but right now, the online play is severely lacking unless you're into PvP. Give us something to work towards and let us do it in peace if we choose to do so, or collaboratively without being hassled by cretins. If I want PvP gameplay, I'll fire up The Division and head to the Dark Zone.4 points

Happened last night. Joined a session and was immediately griefed. Joined a new session, and no one was on it. For about 2 hours I was able to play in peace. Finished Stanger missions without fear of having other players gank my mission. Rn around Saint Denis without fear of being shot in the back of the head, It was great.2 points

There was news from RockstarINTEL.com back in October where data miners had found code for property placeholders. The assumption that properties will at some point be included is based on those placeholders. This is true for the private lobbies and vehicles (e.g. wagons): https://rockstarintel.com/as-expected-youll-be-able-to-buy-properties-in-red-dead-online2 points

In my case, I play solo 2-3 times a week and I'm able to grind away with little drama. Hell, I was able to quickly (relatively speaking) rank up doing side missions by myself including repossessions, mail runs, etc. where you are quite vulnerable and open to targeted attacks. When hunting or doing missions I pick a region relatively free of other players. When selling goods I find a town with what I need that isn't populated by other players. If there is a distance to travel, I hunt along the way to make it worth my time. I simply avoid areas where other players congregate. I also proactively block trolls or those who appear they may cause trouble so my future sessions might be even more peaceful. I will say (again) that the game is much more fun with friends simply because of the camaraderie (I like talking, joking and co-oping with others) as well the protection it affords. When I'm with friends, I venture into areas I normally wouldn't if I were alone. ......and strangers tend to avoid you even more. As far as boredom due to a lack of content, I would agree. I'm not there yet as I still find it fun to play, but I can understand if others are. As far as trolls, it is rare that I ever have encounters with them these days playing the way I do. btw, the phone app is a terrific tool for situational awareness and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for added peace of mind when trying to avoid confrontations. I extended the invitation before but if you ever decide to get on, look me up. I'll team up with you if you want to explore the RDO world more, participate in activities, grind, etc.2 points

I happened into one only once so far. I played about 16 hours straight. The most fun I've had playing the game. Playing game grief free was the absolute best.2 points

......this is a recruitment sub-forum. This topic would be better suited for the general forum. With that aside, I don't get these threads asking griefers to explain their actions. It's obvious why they do it and even if it isn't, discussions like these only end up being toxic because trolls will be trolls whether that's in a game or in a forum. There are already a couple example of this. Maybe they like provoking people? Maybe they can't stand other people having fun? Maybe they like the power they feel in the game (perhaps due to a lack of control they feel over their own lives)? Maybe they got (or still get) bullied and want to take it out on someone? It's all really a moot point as the result is the same. .....they will grief and like doing it regardless of the reason. IMO your best bet is to continue to share your feedback with R* and find a group of friends you can play with. ....speaking of which, R* has already mentioned that new anti-griefing measures are incoming so we'll have to see how that helps the gameplay. If you need someone to join up with, look me up. I'm on PS4 as well and have a PSN Community (along with a Posse here). Just folks looking to play co-op with others and protect one another from griefers. I would also encourage you to block and report players who troll you. The block function works through the PSN option and the report feature is within the game itself (there is one for "disruptive behavior"). Since I've been blocking people, I have yet to come across someone I have already added to my list so I'll continue to do it until I find it doesn't work.2 points

@MN32410 Red_&_Dead So you remember earlier in the thread when you blasted me for mentioning TV settings when I was trying to help? I'm glad your TV update solved your problem. I'll apologise to me on your behalf. Enjoy the game.2 points

Why don't the hotels offer this service online? I'm stinking up the joint over here.😬1 point

Some players did not own the 360 game. The settings were private session (no pink the world is yours) Hard Core (all allowed all voluntary, troll against toll. Normal (You take your chances). Friendly free roam (Can't kill other players, they liked to shoot horse!) + Mexico, miss that one. If it was done before, why not now, all get a game they like?1 point

For those players not high enough to purchase special ammo here are a few spots for some free stuff Special ammo will help you level up faster as every npc kill with it gives you extra xp for example noobs in missions generally shoot an npc and get 5xp but up your game a bit and use special ammo your potential is this 5xp for kill 5xp for sp ammo 5xp for headshot and 5xp for saddle shot if npc is on horse. So Noob shot 5xp against potential 20xp shot Brenan Fort west of Van Horn in the hut inside fort go down into the cellar there are 3 boxes of Express ammo and another box inside a lockbox down there as well Also high up in the north slightly right of centre of map there is a lookout type building very high up on the mountains with a hobo camp at the side, go round to the south side of the lookout building and there is a cellar going underneath where there are several boxes of high velocity ammo also loads of tinned food in main room above Once you have collected it all go to options then online the reload into free roam, you will spawn very close to where you where so you can collect more repeat this till your full of the ammo and other stuff you need. Remember to check all around the rest of the premises for other stuff to loot, use eagle eye to see where stuff is1 point

I actually found the black estate boss hat on someone I killed in a gunfight in Lemyone back during Chapter 2. I said, "Howdy" and he made a derogatory comment, so I pulled him off his horse with a lasso and shot him in a very uncomfortable place (no, not the back of a Volkswagen). Then the hat started glowing on the ground, and I was all, "cool, free hat".1 point

I love that hat and I know the location where to find it. But the black estate boss makes my protagonist look like Cullen Bohannon and I find that to be awesome.1 point

.....here's the list of vehicles that was leaked back then that I mentioned as well in case you missed it. Obviously, we know all the horses now since the beta already released since then: https://rockstarintel.com/red-dead-online-vehicles-leak-exclusive That site has been pretty spot on with their info IME but we'll have to see.1 point

Yea, might be a bug, at least it gives the extra xp from using special ammo. Also, it's my go to for grizzly hunting...one to the head perfect pelt every time.1 point

Sounds like the criteria I would use to proactively block people, if I were doing that, which sometimes I do. I would also block some people just based on their name, cuz to me it shows what kinda mindset they have. It's rare that it's by name, like if its something about everyone's mom, or if they have something in their name saying they're L337, cuz they're usually not, and often annoying. I've actually tried to be dishonorable with missions, and camping a rooftop killing cop in Saint Denis, yet because I care for my horse, get clean kills, etc, I'm apparently very honorable. The dishonorable path in some of the story missions seem to pay better, but not enough dishonor to keep me down. There are communities like that on xbox, I haven't joined any, but again, they seem to be geared towards making long term compatriots. Those LFG sites only have people looking for someone to play with right away, so you can get a group pretty quick, it'll just be someone new each time if you dont make friends with people1 point
-
I did that one after completing the story in Fort Mercer. I think it's a gang hideout cuz they're all hostile and always respawn after leaving and returning. Just had to piss them off and wait for enough to gather in the entrance. Seems easier to do with the people carrying rifles. I've somewhat lost interest in online. I'll still hop on every once in a while and do some missions, hunting etc., but since it's not officially out of beta, the rest of the missions and features arent available yet so not as interested in the grind right now. Only 41 right now, probably wont break 50 for another month if it's still gonna be beta then1 point

I would expand on this and do the following; Tie your morality score directly to PvP interactions only. No score change, up or down, for killing NPCs, hunting, skinning, fishing etc. The only exception being story mode missions where your choices make a discern able difference in the story outcome. Maybe include a morality bonus for resuscitating a fallen comrade. This would allow those with a lower score to raise their morality back through PvE cooperative missions. Additionally, there would be no reduction in morality for PvP inside of an event where pvp is mutually consented to when you choose to participate in the event. However, killing another player outside of clearly defined PvP event results in an immediate reduction in morality. Those with a low morality pay higher prices in the stores, have less friendly and amiable relations with the locals and (most importantly) remain identified on the mini map with a pink dot. Higher morality characters are not shown on the minimap. This allows those who want to engage in free roam pvp to hunt each other down on the mini map and further allows the remaining players to easily identify the "morality" of the other players they encounter, from a distance. Pink dot players are avoided, and otherwise when you encounter another player in the game who was not highlighted on your mini map you have a relatively safe assumption that they are not a griefer. Moreover, if you have a high morality, you too can engage in hunting down griefers you see on the map, so long as you are careful not to kill so many as to have your own morality score reduced to the point of negative morality and end up on the wrong side of the equation yourself. Obviously this would require careful balancing of morality rewards and losses. But it seems perfectly doable to me.1 point

I suppose I'd better buckle down then on the story mode and actually play some of the missions. I'm STILL in Chapter 3 so I'm pretty sure I still have a LONG ways to go. The good news is, I've finished a lot of the challenges and at some point, I suppose I'll power through, but I really want that 100% completion, so I tend to get through it slower than I probably should. The horror stories from online beta don't exactly serve as inspiration to get me to finish quicker.1 point

That worked, i left all weapons on the horse (except revolvers of course) and made sure I only had one tomahawk. Yep, i read somewhere Van Horn is the best place to do the "enemies" challenges. I walked into the saloon, shot the blackjack dealer, just for old times sake, then threw the hatchet at the enemies. I think it was having the rifles equipped that was screwing mine up.1 point

I wouldn't consider it so. They started it. If someone attacks me, I will kill them until I either get sick of wasting my bullets on them or they cry uncle by leaving or calling for a parlay.1 point

When we are with a couple off frends playing and 1 off us needs to go for an hour or 2 ,we just hogtie him and take him with us on the back off the horse. So he gets the xp/gold and dollars from the side missions we do.1 point

Near Tumbleweed bit Norht East of it, there is a broken house, there 's a little lockbox under the floor on the front site off the building gives you Express revolver and high velocity riffle ammo.1 point

......and if they have that much control over an area, there is no need to be jerks and start killing people simply for coming into town to do their trading, shopping, etc. Just another form of griefing IMO. I've run with full 7 person posses and we don't do that nor do we find the need to. People tend to leave us alone and those that don't soon find out they should have.1 point

Unfortunately i have chat ingame switched off can't stand hearing all the music and sh...t that other players spam out all the time But surely 1 player riding into town loaded with pelts isnt a threat to you and your posse, if came at your posse then fine but why kill needlessly and why carry on chasing and killing when they ride off away from you, Ive had a full posse do this first one player kills me 3 times, I then use parley but then another member starts and so on I end up spending more time reloading into new lobbies than i do playing the game and then finaly just shut it down because session have been ruined yet again1 point

You need to press a button if you want to be the train driver. On XB you constantly need to press A. If you're passenger it might help to look at a catalogue. So far i found, looking at catalogue kinda prevents you from being kicked. But you'll starve to death. That's for sure.1 point

No you have to level up to buy it. There is no way around the level lock, and that is why RDO is NOT pay to win. Same for most weapons.1 point

In the river northwest of Annesburg, where it makes a sharp turn from North to east, there’s a bunch of large boulders in the water. Hang out on the bank and Songbirds, Crows, Ravens, Robins, Cardinals, Sparrows, and Blue Jays will all land on the boulders. They can be hard to see without binoculars though.1 point

It would be ruined because the option to shoot people in the back while they are fishing, hunting and exploring wouldn't be there. Everyone knows it's no fun to shoot people who are prepared for a fight and looking to do the same thing to you....lol1 point

Howdy CowPeeps, I hope you're all enjoying the holiday season and getting overweight on mince pies and plain venison. Well, the other day I was at camp with the white flag raised crafting and cooking some things when two griefers turned up. Cos I play as a woman even though I'm a bloke these two dudes thought it would be funny to stick their crotches in my face while I was crouched. Then they tried shooting, lassoing and all the usual things people do when they're bored. Revenge is due, my friends, I thought. Do you know you can lower the white flag without standing near it? You can do it from the d-pad. While the flag was raised I got these dudes used to having a gun aimed at them. Then to wind them up I stood in front of them and drank a beer. Then when they were grouped together I lowered the white flag (from the d-pad) and took them out. By the time they'd respawned and returned the flag was back up and they were p*ssed. I sat on my horse, waited for them to calm down and to distract them again I put on my polka dot frock, jumped off the horse and arrogantly drank another beer at them, lowered the white flag from the d-pad and killed them again. They stupidly came back unaware they were being outwitted so I mounted up and just followed them around the camp until they got bored. When they rode off at speed I killed them yet again. They came back and this time the flag was already lowered and I was just standing there. They approached but didn't draw weapons. So I killed them. The moral is, don't come to my home waving your willy about cos you might just get castrated X1 point

I personally don't mind being killed in all instances except when I'm standing around doing nothing. If I'm doing a mission, feel free to challenge me, it's fun. I don't mind a scuffle over kills and hunting spots. If I killed your friend or something, go for it. But if I haven't done anything to you or I'm just standing around, leave me be. I personally don't grief and only get violent IF PEOPLE CAN'T BE CIVIL ABOUT IT. After that, all hell breaks loose. I had someone follow me to the butcher, didn't try to kill me, stood behind me, then when I was done kill me. And I'm like, but why tho? Or as soon as I log in I'm shot and even when I respawn and RUN away, they are still shooting at me. I was also sitting up in a barn second story minding my business looking at the catalogue and here comes someone up the ladder to shoot me. Good thing I was listening and reacted quickly. Like, why the hell you gotta be a douche like that?1 point

So last night I got on, tried a few missions and no one would join. Tried to join others a few times, Posses I joined sent me messages that though they had room, didn't know me and didn't want to take the chance. I apologized and left. On Xbox, I sent out a few feelers to the game club for players supposedly want to join up and got no responses. So I decided to just go hunting and or maybe do some fishing. While hunting a came across a buck, started to aim when I saw another player appear on my map, that comes riding through and shoots and drops the deer. Then rides on chasing other deer. So I pick it up and chase after him. Thinking maybe the player would like that which he killed. He killed several animals and never stopped to pick anything up, but did ride back and meet up with me. I sent him a message, letting him know that I got his deer. I remove it from my horse and drop it at his feet. Then I leave to continue to hunt. When he sees me mount up, he does the same. Leaving the deer where it laid. So I go and hunt, takes a few minutes. Noticing he isn't far away. I see an animal and take a shot. Before I know it here comes again, running everything off and shooting everything he can. Once again, leaving everything behind. So I said another message, stating my purpose to hunting collect pelts and sell whatever I can. No response. So I start hunting again. Rinse and repeat. At this point I ain't hunting as much as walking through a graveyard of carcasses he has left behind. Now collecting is easy, but I am feeling I am not enjoying this part. I am getting no experience. So I move onto fishing, a few minutes in he shows up and stands there while I fish. No big deal. Right? Wrong. This person then proceeds to start shooting at them and then starts throwing in dynamite. So I politely message, hey that isn't helping. If you would rather join up, I would be glad to help ya do whatever. Are you interested? No response. For the most part I really didn't have an issue with this player, who ever it was. They never attacked me, but seemed insistent on making it easier for me to accomplish some of my goals. Almost to the point of removing the whole experience. The no responses seemed to be griefing to a point. So I changed servers and join a posse, that consisted of 2 other players. We are in St. Denis, so I stop to get ammo from the post office. While inside I get kicked from the group. Odd? Go outside and my horse is dead? Odd? At this point the other 2 are on the opposite side of town. Really odd? So I know I have to kill 2 minutes for my horse. When these 2 come around and start shooting at me. I hear one them claim that they killed my horse and the other makes a statement that this is the easiest way to get players to PvP where you want, by inviting then kicking them and hunting them down. Tired and not in the mood. I just shutdown for the night. Then got thinking about all the ways players can now grief. You could actually be to helpful to the point that the player can't enjoy themselves or you could actually invite them have them come to you and then grief them. So in what ways have you been griefed that seems out of the ordinary?0 points
