I think many folks missed this in yesterday's R* Newswire but it look like good news for us. ......and bad news for griefers:
-
I don't know how many of you missed this in the 12/14 R* Newswire bit but......
-
You know..... I like that actually. Instead of a white flag, perhaps players could be color coded on the map based on their level of hostility toward others. Although I like the white flag idea as that could be something that could act as a sort of passive mode for players that want to do their business in town, etc. without the threat of being attacked. .....of course time limits and the mechanics would need to be ironed out to keep griefers from taking advantage of it. Maybe if someone uses a white flag but then attacks someone within while raised or within a certain time frame after its lowered will be labeled as a hostile for all to see and a bounty offered? ......or something like that. .....just spitballin' here.

Red Dead Online Microtransctions Now Available
Kean_1 replied to Poggy's topic in Red Dead Redemption 2
Most certainly.... The thought also crossed my mind (although I'm not familiar with what everything cost in the game) but what if something I wanted was 200 GB and I had a balance of say 175. That means I would have to spend GB on something else I might not want to make room for the GBs I already purchased. -
I dunno..... Why do you whine about it you little ******!!!!! Go play the campaign if you can't handle it!!!! It's a PvP game, what did you expect!!!! I do it because it's fun!!!!! .....blah, blah, blah. (Just playing the devil's advocate. I hate griefers too and figured these would be their typical responses. )

Well, as far as I can tell, they currently only sell 350 gold bars at a time for $99 USD. If you bought two stacks of those, you would have to wait until your balance was 150 GB before the next stack of 350 GB would be transferred into your account. -
Please read. Issue that NEEDS to be solved

Never heard of this but there's one thing you need to realize.... RDR2.org is not an official R* forum. I would suggest providing your feedback to R* directly at the website they have set up for this beta: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=addb2b0b Just be aware that your remarks are limited to 500 characters so you will need to likely condense your response. -

fyi.... A little more info on the gold bar purchases for those who might be interested in buying them: -
Back in Octonber there was some information data miners discovered in the code (of the app I believe) that indicated private sessions might be implemented at some point including "seamless PvE" (whatever that means).
-
Exactly..... I have to wonder why some would even claim it's unfair to allow private / invite sessions. The only people it would be unfair to are those who are trolling as there would be fewer, vulnerable targets for them to take advantage of.
-
The only time I give someone the benefit of the doubt (allow myself to be vulnerable) is when I'm in town or passing on a road or similar and I can see they are more than likely just going on about their business. Just last night I ran into another player going the fence I just visited. I didn't draw my weapon on them and we passed each other with no drama. However, I make it a habit of giving players a wide berth in the rare cases where our paths may cross. I don't "ride up" on people and I expect the same from them. If someone approaches me when I'm off the road, in the wilderness, etc., I treat them as hostile. If I see someone on the map making a B line for me even after I have changed course, I treat them as hostile. I rarely ever hear anyone on mic in this game unless they are in a posse and/or my friends. If more people spoke before coming toward players, there might be fewer misunderstandings.

Well sure, there are always going to be those that will "buy in" regardless even while a game is still in beta. My point being that it doesn't benefit R* to implement an MTX system and then drag their feet on providing more content and ways to keep people playing. .....and buying more gold bars. Even those they know will likely never purchase MTXs still play a role and they need to keep people interested. R* literally as dominated the GaaS model with GTAV:O and I don't doubt that they will as well with RDO. .....but they didn't (and won't do it again) with a lackadaisical attitude in their progress. I know I won't likely buy gold bars in RDO but I can appreciate their value even for someone like me who doesn't use them. Hell, if it wasn't for the continuing content, freebies, etc. that Shark Cards make possible in GTA, I would have deleted that game from my HDD long ago. -
Who would be penalized? GTAV:O has private session options and I suspect RDO will too. Some folks simply don't want to be exposed to the griefers that frequent public sessions / Free Roam. They just want more PvE / co-op options to enjoy with their friends. Those that like to troll will still have their free-for-all mode to harass people in.

......and possibly a sign that progress on this beta may continue to progress faster than some anticipated (e.g. more items and activities to be added soon). It doesn't benefit R* to implement an MTX system and then dally about. -

Well, it's not as if buying gold bars is a requirement to advance in the game, buy weapons, etc. The only thing locked behind this form of currency is essentially cosmetics. .....nearly everything else can be bought with in-game cash and in some cases gold as an alternative. Personally, I don't see the conflict and to be honest, some folks are going to complain about microtransactions regardless. Also, whether they are released right now or later, what's the difference? They are not required. People that find value in the items being offered at the time will buy them and those that don't, won't. Whether they implemented the store now or later has zero effect on my experience in the beta. Hell, I played GTAV:O for years without ever spending a dime on Shark Cards. .....I doubt RDO will be any different for me. Oh, and it appears we are getting more freebies from R* for participating in the beta: -
I agree with several of your points except the highlighted remarks..... What some may see as "boring" others see as fun. The campaign was PvE and that wasn't boring IMO / IME. PvE online in RDO also wouldn't be boring if there are still activities players and their friends can participate in, NPCs to interact with, etc. I also don't believe in the idea that offering PvE sessions will somehow make Free Roam a troll-only zone. We can already see that they don't need a separate mode to do this. Trolls are going to troll regardless. GTAVO already provides private sessions and they also still force PvE'ers into public sessions by only making certain activities (the most lucrative activities) available in public sessions only (e.g. VP and CEO businesses). Personally, I hope they don't do exactly the same in RDO but there are still way to get PvE'ers into Free Roam. They could make the reward match the risk using bigger payouts, etc. ......but when PvE'ers just want to have fun with their mates, explore the open world, play activities in peace, etc., it would be nice to have that option.

Trolls, Griefers and the Hall of Shame
Kean_1 replied to Redstaski's topic in RDR2 - TeamUp (PS4)'s Our Forum
When you create a posse in game, you can send invites to anyone you wish that is in your session. You can make the posse private (invite only) or public where anyone in the session who wants to can join in. With friends, they will need to either join your session or you can invite them. You then would need to send an invite to join your posse. You can name your own posse anything you want and change it whenever you wish. Temporary posses will go away when the session ends and/or is disbanded. Persistent posses cost $200 IIRC, can contain up to 7 players (vs. 4) and will remain available to use. -
The same pros / cons invite-only sessions provide in GTAO. It allows friends to interact in the GTA game world without "randoms". To still participate in some activities, explore, etc. without the threat of being trolled. I see no cons personally except for the fact that (in GTAO for example) you can;t operate CEO or VP operations within one of these sessions. R* wants players to be under the constant threat of other players in public sessions when making money. Unfortunately, the only lucrative activities can only be performed in public. ....downside for those looking to make a buck but an upside for griefers. On the other hand, this keeps things "fair" as people can't make money in closed sessions and then dominate in public ones. ......but then they can always just buy their way through the game with Shark Cards. Personally, I don't like the idea of a forced blend of PvP and PvE gameplay. It attracts griefers and is rarely fun for those that want just PvE fun. Having said that, I understood it to an extent in the GTA universe but not so much (in its current format) in RDR. In RDO I believe there should be consequences, incentives, etc. to discourage trolling. ......vs. a griefer's paradise like GTAO is.

You can still report people to MS and Sony for violating their code of conduct since you are using their service (e.g. XB LIve and PS Plus) to play online. However, as you can imagine, the CoC for each is very broad and covers what you might expect like piracy, exploits, hacking, questionable content, cheats, etc. ......and yes, harassing behavior usually in the form of abusive language, threats, racism, etc. However, I don't see anything in the MS CoC that would specifically cover what it is allowed in RDO (like ambushing other players) as a violation of this code. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/legal/codeofconduct To be honest, Free Roam is a PvP environment that gives you the ability to do this and (like it or not) it is by design. Now, If someone were to use a mechanic in the game to gain an unfair advantage over other players in such a way it was not intended (an exploit), that's a different story. IMO, the best way to stop a lot of this is to continue to send feedback to R* via their website during the beta. Report exploits as you discover them. Let them know we are unhappy with the unchecked trolling that is allowed in the game, the lack of session options for PvE players, etc. https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=addb2b0b Let them know we don't want RDO to turn into just another GTAO experience.

No problem. Here are one of the articles from Oct discussing the subject I mentioned btw: https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2018/10/28/red-dead-online-info-revealed-by-app/#/slide/1
-
Really? It seemed to for me on a couple of different occasions. Also, the icon will still turn grey to indicate when your "supposedly" concealed from others on the map.
-
Not only the process but also the fact that people are playing the game as designed (like you mentioned before). We can all agree many of these actions are griefing / trolling, but the game is made to allow and even encourage this style of play. There are no rules preventing playes in RDO from killing other players on a whim. There are no rules saying they can't lasso us, hogtie us, stalk us, ambush us, etc. It's all part of the gameplay R* allows in Free Roam. I just can't believe that someone can be or would be banned for simply playing the game as designed (essentially a griefers paradise at the moment). In all honesty, I don't blame the trolls as much as I do R* for the frustration many are experiencing with these types of folks. Now if trolls are using exploits or hacks to accomplish their deeds, that's a whole different story. That's a bannable offense but even then (as you pointed out) it doesn't usually mean they will be banned on the spot or even at all.
-
Same here but I understand why they are keeping the game on the slim side for now. I'll wager once they're confident they got the foundation all smoothed out we'll start seeing more content. I imagine they already have components ready to go or are currently working on them so they can just add them in.
-
I don't really think this is really in the spirit of a Q&A post (better suited for the online subforum) but yeah, why not. .....but since this is a Q&A section, my answer would be to submit your feedback to R* directly. We can discuss it here all day but this is a fan site and not an official forum. However, R* does want to hear your feedback and set the following website up for specifically that: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=addb2b0b Just be warned..... The feedback is limited to 500 characters so you may find yourself having to condense your responses or simply divide them up and submit them individually.

Has anyone broken a line while fishing online?
Kean_1 replied to Abysstic's question in Questions & Answers
I haven't personally but I have heard others who have and lost their lure because of it. I think in one recent post, someone had mentioned that they paid in gold for that lure they lost. ......ouch.
