How do people ghost in free roam?

I encountered a couple of griefers last night whose avatars were ghosted out (like PVP respawn) for about a minute - I couldn't shoot them (they couldn't shoot me either), but when I gave up and walked away they 'materialized' and shot me in the back?

Was this just a very fortunate glitch for them, or some exploit?  Anyone had anything similar?  First time anything like this has happened to me.

Same thing happened here, a guy did this near a train track, no vendor near him... might be the signpost thing, I need to check if there was a fast travel there. I stood there for 2 or 3 minutes beating him senseless, the punches were connecting on both of us but no damage, when I rode away he became normal again, I was aware he could pull some coward bullsh*t and shot him first as soon as he pointed the gun.

People are using this against other players. I know if you are in the middle of buying something or interacting with a merchant you can't be shot and the fast travel spots grant you some protection as well. Soon as they think they can get you, they come out and just go guns blazing.

This isn't true, at least not anymore.  I have been shot and lassoed while dealing with the butcher.

No doubt and I have been seeing it more and more lately.  Was doing a mission and saw a player do it.  He was moving from NPC to NPC killing them with his knife.

You are right, this was changed. When the game first launched it was something I noticed right away. I played last night and got shot right after the merchant. Fun times.

You can be shot or roped while dealing with a merchant.  I have had it done several times already.  I think it may be a lag issue, but it has happened.

It poses an interesting question I think - why does R* not do something with regard to this griefing issue altogether?

There's little point in people becoming hysterical as many are on YouTube. Rather, calmly and coolly one has to ask .... Why?

For example..... Is it historically proven that 'game griefers' spend more money on transactions than non-griefing players? Or some other reasons which I cannot be bothered to think of.

Also one has to say, this forum has a few active members with a membership total of c.1872. ...... Meanwhile YouTube content makers, attract thousands of views ... But the first weekend alone,  17 million copies were sold.... 17 million....... This means we are all in a tiny, tiny minority of players.

See I don't believe that griefers will spend more money then non-griefers.  I think the issue is you don't see the non-griefers effects cause you don't see the effects of it, they don't do it just to grief.

As for YouTubers, that is because no one wants to do the work themselves.  They want to see the shortcuts, the cheats, the glitches.  They YouTubers can get away with teach people how to do all that because they are providing free advertisement.

Well,  I am  not saying anything because I don't know.... One would like to imagine that is the case, but we don't know  .... However I do suspect the more people speculate, the more they get aerated about the not knowing.

As for YouTube, yes I hear you... But the long and short of it is, there are definitely hysterical people on so many occasions ranting about a game, not only this one. If people think RDR2 On-Line is copping grief, then go have a look at Fallout 76 ......

If people cared as much about world hunger as they do video games, I suspect there would be few hunger problems left.

This has been my experience as well.  Players will actually turn to ghosts while transacting after you press L2.  Once you are done, that's it.  .....you're free game.

Btw, R* already announced last week that griefing was one of the more popular complaints they have received and will be implementing new "anti-griefing" measures after the holidays.   .......so whether some choose to dismiss the issue or not, all that matters to me is that a large part of the feedback they've been receiving has exposed it, R* acknowledges it and they will be doing something about it.  What exactly that will be, we'll just have to wait and see.

The game is still in beta and a work in progress so I'm not too bound up over it for now.  I think what's important to note is that R* does read the feedback and it's more important now more than ever to submit yours if you have any.

when a mass amount of players all come together with the same issue, they expect the game developer to immediately take the game down and fix it lol...disregarding that it takes time to diagnose the issue and then come up with a way to fix that said issue without creating another one else where.. when i see comments like these for games i play i just ignore them because youre basically just talking to a wall lol..
