Seeing that there are 2 unlockable (whole) outfits for preorder, will we be stuck buying whole outfits in online, or will it be more like GTA where we can do whatever we want?

I’m sure we’ll have all sorts of customization options. Anything less would be a step back instead of forward.

I don't think Rockstar would take customization a step back like that and if you study the description and images there's a few clues that make me believe they'll be interchangeable clothing.

"The Blackrose Bounty Hunter Outfit features a long oxblood-colored coat, a vest with gold pocket watch chain, and dark pants tucked into chocolate leather boots."

Rockstar's description of both outfits state that the outfit "features" these pieces of clothing instead of saying something along the lines of, The Blackrose Bounty Hunter Outfit is comprised of a long oxblood-colored coat etc. It may seem like nothing but Rockstar pick they're words quite carefully.

Also, this image shows an Online character wearing what could be described as "a fur-lined saddle-brown leather waistcoat with pinstripe blacks pants" but the whole outfit doesn't match the full description, he's not wearing the "two-tone gloves" and is wearing a hat that's not in the description given.

"The Copperhead Enforcer Outfit features a fur-lined saddle-brown leather waistcoat, two-tone gloves, and pinstripe black pants tucked into black leather boots."

I do wonder how far they will take it. Like if you can actually pick different colors for the items instead of just wearing the same item in the same color as other players. Would be cool if we get like a choice of maybe 6 to 12 different shades depending on the item of clothing or accessory.

I am hoping for this. I don't mind having set options but I want there to be some color options with it. If they want to keep it true to the old west, they can just do dark washes of red, green, blue, yellow, and so on.

I hope they keep it all authentic. It'll really ruin the experience for me if i have to see people running around in neon green boots and orange zebra stripe jackets with pink rifles.

Agreed, I hope Rockstar keep it authentic and if Red Dead Online does indeed use GTA Online as a template I hope that further down the line they don't start giving the community everything they want because they know they can charge big bucks for it.

I think they will be symapthetic to the time. They've gone all out on realism so I strongly doubt they'll go against that.

That's what I'm hoping they do but I can't get my hopes up with Rockstar these days, not after GTA Online. If you'd told me in 2013 about all the things we'd get in the Gunrunning and Doomsday updates I'd have thought you were crazy.

If you had told me that I’d be able to watch a police chase on tv in my Online high-rise apartment, and then look out the window as it sped by, I would have thought you were high.  That’s the first thing that blew my mind about GTAO when it came out.

GTA Online blew me away when I first played it in 2013 and despite the issues it was evident from day one that Rockstar put a lot of work into the Online and it's various features but now I can't stand GTA Online, with all the weaponized vehicles driving and flying around these days you'd be lucky to survive a drive around the map in an unarmoured car.

I loved having shootouts in Red Dead Redemption and in GTA Online when it first dropped but no one uses guns in GTA Online anymore. I played in a Public Freeroam the other day with a friend and 26+ other random players, me and my friend spent 2 hours running around getting into fights on the ground, we died 14 times between us and only one of those deaths was by being shot, the rest were from jets, tanks, C4, RPGs, flying cars and bikes. When those are the only weapons being used it makes it really hard to have fun.

I'm exactly the same. There's a collective groan when they release another crappy adversary mode. All this doesn't bode well for RDRO, if we're already bored and sick of GTAO, especially if the same dev teams are responsible for it.

Hey now! Let's stay optimistic. It could be great! Though, if I'm honest, I'm a little worried it'll just be more of the same.

Offline I am sure there will be a lot of outfits and possibly even color schemes to choose from. As for online...

They should have two servers options... Ones that stay true to the old west, and ones that include unicorns, neon colored attire, and guns that shoot squirrels. This way they can have a server option for people who want to play true to the time, and another for people when they just want to mess around. I know this is very unlikely but this would allow them to sell to two different kinds of markets without merging them together.

I am still hoping for the option to dress like a prostitute. I know it would be stupid but for online purposes, having my male character in drag running around sounds delightful to me.

I mean I wouldn't be opposed to this. It depends on how "progressive" they want to be. For most players, it would be for comedy so it may end up rubbing people the wrong way. I mean men have dressed like women for comedy for centuries. Heck, plays used to only be held and acted by men. Let us have our dresses!

I don't think Rockstar cares about rubbing people the wrong way. lol GTA has been a target for the people who blame video game violence for how children and teens act and have rage/violent outbursts. You can't blame a game for that. It is just bad parenting or mental issues.

Yeah they really don't. Their games tend to break the way for other devs out there by pushing boundaries but I don't think there are any more they can push, not right now anyways. Some group would be all over them. Even the dang president has made public statements about video game violence. There is a rating for a reason. Bad parenting is what I call that crap.

My xbox name is DuchVanDerLinde and my character in rdr2 looks fairly similar to Dutch. I was hoping that after the beta you could go to your qardrobe and when you click modify, you add the pocket watch to your vest if you spend 1 gold in general store. Please add this.

Hi Dutch,

First, welcome to the forums.

Now that is out of the way, please realize that RDR2.org is an RDR fansite and not an official forum for R* or T2.  We can't add anything to the game.

If you would like to provide suggestions, submit bug reports, etc. to R*, I would suggest the following link:

Do you think we should maybe make a thread for clothing customization ideas and requests and send the link to Rockstar? Someone I talk to on another forum did this for some requests they had with the game. I don't know if it would be worth it or not.
