Since hunting seems to be the best way to earn money in the game so far, I figured we should start a thread for newer players who are looking to earn some quick cash. Below are some tips that I've come up with after several days of doing nothing but bagging every animal I can see: Animals in Red Dead 2 have different quality pelts, and the better the quality the more money you can make. The kinds of pelts you can encounter are Perfect (***), Good (**), and Poor (*) Animals spawn randomly throughout the map, but my favorite places so far are Great Plains (Buffalo spawn there), Tall Trees, Blackbone Forest, and the Heartlands. The area between Valentine and Emerald Ranch seems to be a great spot because of how open it is. MAKE EVERY SHOT COUNT! If you riddle an animal with bullets the value of their pelt will decrease. If the animal is big enough try aiming for the head. When first starting out bag as many animals as you can, but as you start to earn more money and become a better hunter try going exclusively for "good" or "perfect" pelts since they will net a bigger profit. Your starting weapons are not great for hunting, so try and invest in some better firepower as soon as you can. The best all-around weapon for hunting is the Bolt Action Rifle, while the Varmint Rifle is good for small animals and even birds. The bow is also a good investment because it allows you to stealthily kill an animal without alerting any that are nearby. On the subject of weapons, keep in mind that if you shoot small animals with a large caliber weapon (e.g. the Bolt Action) it will reduce the value of their pelts. Bird hunting can be extremely profitable. Since most birds travel in flocks of two or more there is serious potential to earn a lot of cash by shooting down as many birds as you can. The Varmint Rifle or a repeater are your best options for taking down birds. The Baits (Herbivore Bait and Predator Bait) that you can buy in stores or craft aren't a great investment in my opinion. I've tried to use both on several occasions and either it won't work or only one or two animals will appear. I find it easier to hunt without it. If you kill a large animal (Buffalo, Bear, Elk, Moose, etc.) you are only allowed to carry one of their pelts at a time, so I suggest storing only the best quality pelt you can get. If you shoot an animal and it is dying, wait for it to bleed out. If you shoot it again the value of its pelt will decrease. When encountering a pack of animals, don't ride and/or run right into them. They'll likely hear you coming and disperse. Instead, hang back a bit and scout out the ones with good quality pelts. When you've found the best one, take it out first, and then go for as many others as you can. The bow is probably the best option for hunting packs of animals because of how quiet it is. Be careful of trolls. If they kill you you will lose your pelts that you've stored on your horse. Please feel free to add your own tips/advice to this thread!2 points

Seems to me people want to play online with friends... Playing CO OP missions, ride around, hunt, fish and do what ever. And theres lots of fun in that. Hell i spent an hour last night dragging friends through the water with a lasso. Shooting bots and hunting/fishing is a part MP online. It literally is. PVP is just one aspect of online.. And currently, IMO its the worst part of online due to auto aim. (This is just my opinion) But really... Where the fun of constantly being locked on to by asshole with auto aim just because they see your blip? Thing is this is just a beta. They don't even have PRIVATE/INVITE only lobbies yet. So once thats added players will be able to play in peace. But this game does need friendly lobbies for PVE players.2 points

Same here... Yesterday I logged on and not only did they start me a million miles away from my camp, it took me almost 10 minutes to get to it, and when I was about 30 seconds away from arriving, Cripps decided to move my Camp halfway across the map. Why can't we just spawn straight to our camp or at least have the option to?2 points

I've made a total of 12 attempts on characters so far, 10 girls 2 guys... my last one is the best one? Oh hell no, from my 3rd try onwards, every single time I regreted deleting that character, that was looking like a real goddess, but no, let's redo it because the cheeks could go 1 inch lower... I was NEVER able to recreate that beautiful face again, every other girl was a failure attempt at reaching that maximum beauty..... I'm sad. ANYWAYS, my actual guy right now ( I go into automatic fetal position when I try another girl ), the one I will stick with until they say they fixed the creation system so I don't dive in depression is this guy...2 points

Yea the sh*t talking is pretty bad.. I had a guy ride up to me the run off and was waiting for me up the trail a bit so I had my pump out in case he was gonna try anything then as I was approaching he said “you ain’t sh*t bro whatcha gonna do?” I didn’t even respond But before he was even able to get a gun out I got a headshot on him and killed him so yea I really ain’t sh*t 😂2 points

This is exactly why I manually save every time I complete a mission because I was afraid something like this would happen.2 points

Rather than sift through every page here to see if there is a similar post, I made one. General store clothing catalog has a free Grizzlies Outlaw outfit. (its a moderate temp outfit, so you will get hot in the desert and grasslands but it is nicer than wearing the free clothes that look like they were taken off a corpse) Fence in Thieves Landing has a free High Roller Revolver (the damage isn't as good as the Cattleman though a second gun is nice to have if your Cattleman has degraded into poor condition from never cleaning it and you're out of gun oil) Stables in Valentine (possibly any stables) has a free Red Chestnut Arabian. (unless you have a second stable for another horse you will have to sell your starter horse) Feel free to add your finds of free gear and where to get them. I'll update as I find more.1 point

Robbing the Annesburg train when you get to the tunnel is probably the best method to rob a train, due to the great reward with little to no risk, as you never get a bounty upon completing it. However, the main drawback is if the player wants to rob the train again taking the same route, the train would not move and remain stationary, so they would have to take the train to Saint Denis first, which is a much longer ride and only makes robbing the train more tedious. This issue fixes itself, but it takes about a good half hour or so of your real life time before it can move again. I, however, accidentally found a trick that lets you rob the train without having to wait out the time AND the long ride. Things you’ll need: a fast horse, x2 dynamite, a gun, that’s it ^^ After finishing up your robbery in Annesburg train, go to any train station and take the train to the Annesburg station. After that, save right there on the spot, then load that same save. Once you’re loaded in, you’ll see that the train is moving and won’t stop moving, so IMMEDITAELY whistle your horse over, chase the train and jump onto it. Now that you’re on the train, just wait until the tunnel spot and rob it again and get yourself some easy cash1 point

Very long rant ahead 😂 First let me start by saying I love the game. Single player isn’t lacking stuff to do and online is honestly a lot better than I expected but honestly I’ll tell ya my 2 biggest issues with RDO. Trolls. And lack of good paying jobs. I completely understand that the game is meant for you have a posse and run around like a boss but it gets annoying quick when I’m trying to go into a town to do a mission and there’s a posse just camping there by the mission waiting to kill me everytime I try to come up to it so I just get killed over and over again. Also one of the free roam games is called archery master or something like that and the whole point is to run around shooting these targets with your bow and arrow and you get points by accuracy and distance from target. The game has nothing to do with killing eachother yet everytime I play it there’s like 30 players doing it and maybe 5 people are playing the game. The other 25 are running around with shotguns like it’s a deathmatch just killing everyone and it’s really really annoying. There’s literally a death match mode for that so wtf. Then not only that but I deal with that for the 10-15 minutes the game lasts and all I get is 1 gold nugget and like a dollar 50🙄 which brings me to my next point. The lack of good money/gold. Just like gta online the prices of everything are outrageous and the pay for games and missions are at the minimum forcing me to do one of 2 things. Either use real money and do microtransactions once those are available or quit my job so I can play the game 40 hours a week for weeks on end so I can buy a damn hat or something. I’m all for working for the money I don’t want it handed to me in one mission. BUT I shouldn’t have to no life for 3 days just to make 100 bucks and that won’t even buy me anything except food and ammo..1 point

I do the jewelry respawn thing.... lol. Made enough to buy a bolt action. I don't consider it an exploit. Since searching for items and finding a new game is legit game play. And so is farming farm animals. If anything is an exploit in this game...its the bean counters at R* who work for Strauss Zelnick trying to nickle and dime the players with extremely high prices and crappy payouts. In horse races.. Comming in 2nd or 3rd pays about $1. Missions pay out $2-$4 sometimes.. Do what you gotta do.1 point

I like seeing these. It is possible to make a good custom character in RDR2 but it does take some patience. When creating a new character it can be worth trying the Randomize option until you get a good base to work from. Some people might find this tedious but I kind of enjoy looking over the possibilities. And while you might have to sift through a lot of random characters before you find one with potential, it's not nearly as time-consuming as, say, playing the slot machines in Dragon Quest 11, or finishing the RDR2 Gambling challenges...1 point

Yeah, had this happen several times. Even when we were being cool with them and they were clearly outnumbered. One guy pissed me off so bad I shot and killed his horse as well. ......but then the vicious cycle continues and the respawn, come after you again, etc., etc., etc. Boring as hell. ....and the crap talking is absolutely infantile. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. Trolling in its purest form. Trying to provoke people.1 point

I'm on my third character generation and will likely delete him and do it again. I seem to be unable to get the look that I want. When I create the character everything looks "pretty good". Then I enter the game and see the character in a cinematic mode and think, "What the hell is wrong with this dude's face?!?" lol Chins seem particularly tricky. So far, the first character was male, the second female, and now on my third, another male. I am confident my third try will be the charm and I'll probably go female again. Just stay away from the heavy makeup! hehehe1 point

The Grizzlies would looks the same, but it would be kinda nice seeing a thin layer of snow blanketing the Heartlands, some Christmas trees set up in the towns, maybe a mission that only appears during that holiday to get you an outfit that's only from that mission. Would encourage people to play year round, sort of like how WoW has the holiday specific missions and gear. Maybe for Halloween, you have to Trick-or-treat the different shops, and they give you something like a box of ammo, a can of baked beans, horse medicine, etc., depending on which store it was. For Easter, maybe hunting rabbits for the one special rabbit that only appears during the one week event, and when you find him, he lays a golden egg, maybe have it worth like 50 gold nuggets. (Yes, I know rabbits don't lay eggs, but the Easter bunny is a magical creature, so he poops em out golden) So many possibilities with holidays, but Rockstar probably won't do much other than decorating the world for the holidays. Posted this, then started picturing Mardi Gras in the streets of Saint Denis. I wouldn't be surprised if Rockstar did that one. Oktoberfest would be pretty cool too, but I'm not sure how that one would go in RDO.1 point

Yea you know I think that’s really my issue with trolls. They’re chicken shits they camp out around mission start points hiding behind sh*t waiting for you or they do like you day and wait till they can shoot you in the back when they know you can’t do anything back to them real quick or they wait for you to go afk while getting a drink or somthing then come kill you. They don’t face you head on cuz they’re too scared and know they’ll lose1 point

I finally got my (4th) last MVP for The Real Deal trophy with my original ugly character, it was a beautiful thing. Everyone got rammy *just* behind me. My horse found another gear, I was 2 lengths ahead of 2nd and 3rd, when 3rd started swiping 2nd. 2nd warned 3rd to race fair and clean, or it was "on", 3rd pulled a gun. Shots rang out, but this time I was about 12 lengths ahead... I kept mashing "X" and guided into Stamina barrels to stay topped up. Crossed the finish line a full 9 seconds ahead of a totally different 2nd and 3rd LOL. Blingk! Then I promptly deleted that ugly bish, didn't care that I was level 11. Hellooooo, much nicer character! Couldn't angle the eyebrows to be more horisontal like mine, but I'm MUCH more pleased with my new look.1 point

So essentially what your telling me is that those of us that want to play the game the right way and actually play the mini games the way they were intended to be played should just get off and never play again cuz we don’t like the **** offs that are just there to be a di*k? So you want me to just play single player cuz I play the game right and I’m respectful of players that are just minding their own business but it’s totally alright for the ****in idiots to just keep on playing cuz they’re just doing a wonderful job?1 point

As Poggy said, vibrations get stronger and more frequent when your going in the right direction and are getting closer. It'll get fainter when heading the wrong way and farther away. The treasure I found was a small chest between some rocks, sorta out in the open, so easy to spot when you get close. Dont think that Eagle Eye is absolutely necessary to get the vibrations tho it probably helps to see the chest itself. It was in a large area it had me searching and only felt the vibrations in a small corner of it ( like 1/8 of the total area)1 point

That sucks, bro. I've never relied on autosave in this game (I actually have it disabled), simply because of the old-school practice of saving before I start a new mission, or whenever I "check a box" on a challenge/side quest. Auto save sucks because if I screw something up, or my horse gets killed, I have no recourse other than to load the autosave--which in this game seems to be triggered by tradgedy more often than success.1 point

.....as you dismiss others and imply their feedback is "usually childish". Yeah, ok. HInt.... Don't insult someone and then ask them to do you the courtesy of listening to what you have to say. This is great advice. I would encourage others to share their experiences with R* and their suggestions. Unlike certain individuals in these forums, R* is looking for your feedback both good and bad and that's what matters. The issue is that public sessions provide trolls with a target rich environment. .....and yeah, they are "trolls" when there is no other benefit to randomly killing other players except for the simple pleasure (in their eyes) of causing grief. Sure, this is multiplayer but it is also supposed to be a place where folks can play cooperatively while they explore the game world, engage in missions and other activities. The crux of the problem lies in the fact that trolls can ruin all other aspects of game play in the RDR world. Even the "solo experience" R* promotes is a pipe dream in RDO right now as those players are made easy targets by these kill squads that camp mission sites, towns, seek out players using the radar tracking, etc. I am pretty confident that at some point R* will introduce private / invite only session options and perhaps even passive modes for public lobbies. In the meantime, I would encourage you all to provide your feedback here: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=addb2b0b1 point

I feel you mate! I deal with the same problems! My biggest concern, even knowing its a beta, is the MASSIVE "Trolling / Griefing" that there is.. I try to be kind to everyone i meet, and i always end up getting shot. It takes away the fun. (For me atleast) i know there is some PVP people, loving the fact, that they can shoot everyone, without any reason.. But for me = No go! The prices is insane, its absurd how much things cost, and how slow the money earnings take.. Remember to report these thoughts on the feedback form Rockstar provided!1 point

I really enjoyed it until I got to town with my friend and was subsequently gunned down and the entire town turned into a cluster f***. Turned it off and went back to Single Player. The old west was not " ride into town and murder everything" or we wouldn't exist. People being shot while skinning / cut scenes?? Nah not for me. I won't be playing again until there are separate PVE and PVP servers. I've never played GTAo for an extended period of time but it seems like from the comments that the system they implemented there only encouraged more trolling. So I think it would be much better with separate servers. But let's be honest, the whole reason is to make people who don't play as often, want to spend RL $$ to get gear to keep up...which I'm not willing to do. I will pay extra $$ for addons and cool things but not just so I can survive, only to be trolled when I want to simply hunt or sell a f***ing pelt. Lastly, I will say I love this game and it is on my top 5 of all time list, but am not going to suffer through through the way their Online system is setup. I am not too upset because I love the SP but would love to be able to hunt / quest / heist etc with a posse without being side tracked and wasting the limited time I have to actually play the game. Separate Servers please, or have a passive mode enabled BEFORE you sign into the server and not able to troll flag. Either way , I figured I'd leave my two cents. And also to the guy in this forum that feels the need to call everyone a "Normie" or " Noob" because he disagrees with them, grow up bro.😂1 point

Have to agree with original poster,.... It seems that R* still has not learned that mixing open world PvE mixed in with the PvP and giving missions that are on a timer, or any mission that can be interrupted by a PvP'er just dose not work. My husband & I just finished the tutorial and got into the open world where we can group up. I latterly took five steps into the game, when a snot nosed murderous child who was already level 20 one shot head shot me, I was level 2 or 3 or something. So ya how is that a good PvP? A high level already spawn camping the newbie zone? Just like in GTA5! Problem #2 Ok so I was warm welcomed into how RDR2 O was going to be. I play GTA5 so I'm use to the Snot Nosed Kiddies, There is always a work around to stay out of PvP, Mostly get a massive guild and take over the server kill anyone who is not in your Clan... Or in this case Posse. With a cap of 7 people in a guild it looks like we cant do that anymore, so going to have to make several Groups of friends with Posses and some how link up as allies to take control of a server. I hate feeling like I have to constantly be a bad Lady and just kill anyone who is not on my friends list. But If you do not shoot the first person you see and have a big gang with you killing every red dot on the map until they leave the server you might as well not play any R* game. R* Forces you to play offensively.... Kill or be Killed, I Hate the feeling, I hate PvP, Its not in my nature to go around randomly killing everyone I see just because I'm afraid that if I don't kill them, they will kill me the first chance they get. I like RDR2, best graphics and game play I've seen in a new game... R* did that right. What I hate is trying to pick up a mission and I get shot in the back of the head, trying to finish a mission and get gang R.a.p.e.d all the way to the finish...…. If you can get it in before the timer runs out... Really R*, Timed missions "AGAIN"! in a PvP open world, NO...Just No! take the timers out of the missions. BIG #3 problem, How in the hell are these PvP'er phasing in and out? We had a group attacking us and they could one shot us, There is two of us right now so if I don't get you My Husband will,... But we have noticed that these players will one shot you, then go into a shadow form where they are immune to attack back, you can shoot them, but your bullets will go right through them, you cant fist fight or stab them ether, WTF is that? Are they cheating already, Is it a Lag switch? Is it a speed hack? What the heck are they doing to become immune to damage? #4 when you go into a cut seen apparently you can still be killed even though you are stuck in a cut seen and can not defend your self? We are following our main mission so we can unlock our items and level up, But at Blackwater you get that long cut seen, I could not get it to complete so that I can move on to the next mission as every time I get half way through it some snot nosed murderous child kills me! WTF R*!! ?? Any cut seen should make you immune to PvP. With that said I think R* did something right... I've noticed that when you go into a catalog you do phase out of the world.. Why did R* not apply this to every cut seem, and missions ? When you do a Side mission you should be out of PvP and immune to attacks !! Lets hope that R* will have invite only private servers one day that you can play in peace, I like PvP when in the mood, But mostly I like to enjoy the PvE aspects of a game... My husband & I work long hours and sometimes only get 2 hours of game play in, I do not want to have to spend most of that time in PvP when all I want to do that day is get some main story missions, and some side quest in! In Conclusion; Have an option to flag your self on or off of PvP for a session. then you are stuck in that mode until you log off and re-choose what style of play session you want to do, PvP/PvE- In this way everyone wins! Those of us who want to do the PvE and missions can do so in peace, Those that want to PvP can fight other PvP'ers as they wish, everyone is happy. …. well except the Snot Nosed Murderous Children who like to go after low levels because that's all they can kill due to having no skills fighting someone of same levels. Ether a flag system or complete separation of PvP'ers from PvE'er, each play styles will have their own dedicated server. You choose to go on a full PvP… or PvE server at the start of your session. Or Invite only private server.... But not like GTA5 where you can't do any missions... have full game missions on a private server... That's it... Thanks for reading. See ya in game Cowboy's & CowGirls !1 point

Maybe im wrong. But it should be more like RDR multiplayer.. Normal. With Any aim you want.. PVP enabled. But with Blips only show when shooting or running/riding. (To make it non troll happy) Friendly. with Any Aim you want. PVP disabled. Blips enabled Hardcore. Free Aim only. Blips only show when shooting or running/riding. I find that would make most people happy. And with that would not require passive mode, because everyone knows what they are getting into.1 point
