  1. Rockstar is like Dutch. They have a plan, it's a good one, but they'll never tell you until the last minute.

  2. I don't know how many folks may have missed this in R*s latest beta status update (I've mentioned it before) but I think it's really interesting. This new "dynamic" sounds like a potentially great opportunity for everyone as it seems players might have a chance to take an active role in being on the side of the law or as "rogues". There's a level of accountability to indiscriminate killing while adding a potentially new and fun aspect to the gameplay. The only people who may not like it are some of the griefers taking advantage of easy targets but I can see how others might welcome the new challenge and chance to role play. If folks could just set aside for a moment trying to define what RDO is (e.g. PvE, PvP, PvPvE, FFA), take a step back and see what R* has said is coming down the pike, I think it's obvious that they don't want to eliminate the adversarial aspect of the gameplay but simply try and help mitigate some of the griefing taking place. .....in other words, balance (which is really all that some of us have been asking for). In the end, we could end up with new and interesting aspects to the gameplay that benefit everyone. Let's see how it shakes out first.

  3. Its less about loving ' to watch their backs'. And just accepting it. Well that's the way I see it. It allows players really role play.. As a good, bad or evil player. And creates many good or bad game play moments. Griefing can really.. really be dealt a blow if R* would alter how stupidly easy it is to find and target players. Auto aim + Always on blips is the reason that griefers do what they do.. so easily. Also this game needs MORE butchers. Every region needs two butchers at the very least. This ^ won't stop griefing. But it sure as hell would make it much more rare. .

  5. I am adamant against griefing in PvEvP. I don't have issues with those who PvP. I don't think I ever said I was on a server of 31. Most players I have seen in one combat, was where a guy invited me and it was 14v2. Which is 16 players. The speculation of it nullifying griefers was a joke. Cause most of the old GTA folks will remember that every time they did something to fix griefing they would add something to make it actually easier. Edit: Though I got called in cause he felt like he was being griefed. When we started shooting back and we did. It was no longer griefing, we participated in PvP, even though the odds was stacked against us.

  8. I'd change the time it takes to switch modes to like 5 mins. It's very easy to run away and wait out that 30s. But you got a point there though. I guess it would work for those that like to shoot people just to shoot them. But I'm a noble pvper, I will never shoot someone in the back or if they've given me no reason to. And even then if I want to fight I am 50% of the time killing my own friends for fun (not maliciously). Not every pvper is the trigger happy kind. You got the ones like me who want a fair fight. Yeah I could go to one of the pvp modes, but often I like creating my own. Like I and some friends made a capture the flag pvp thing by which group can keep the train the longest. That was hella fun for me. On the other hand I'd suggest making the towns themselves like safe zones unless a mission is going (much like your camp doesn't protect you while you're on a mission). That would give people a little more peace of mind. I am dying to see how this bounty system will play out. Maybe some want to roleplay as an outlaw and try to evade capture/death. Others might want to take up a bounty as a mission and take out that person if they can.

  9. You'll probably find the person in charge on a Mango farm in Tahiti. Be careful when you get there, though; he may convince you there is a plan, and all that is needed is "a little time" and "some faith". Then they'll turn around and listen to the RDRO Youtubers, the community equivalent of Micah, and ruin it for everyone.

  10. I have killed griefers 300+ and I will just go on killing them. Now my bolt action rifle has explosive express rounds (one shot kill). The remedy for me, grind story and stranger missions till you get a very high rank. Then you go Equaliser on their asses. Nothing more beautiful in this game then watching a griefer fly out of the saddle and dead before they hit the ground. Then you run them down and kill them again.

  12. I cannot retrace the exact issue you are having, however the lvl1 horse bonding reset error is still in the game. This means that even when you have lvl4 bonding with the horse it resets you to lvl 1. When you visit a stable or basically re-log or after finishing a mission it then sets you back to the correct bonding again. This might have happened in the time you were playing although I haven't noticed that you were not awarded the points for riding etcetera during levelling the horse bonding. I assume it will work itselves out for you and you will just lvl up.

  15. The first thing that comes to my mind is if the range is lower than the striking distance of a rifle with high velocity ammo, it won't take long for griefers to take advantage of that. .....but I think all of these concerns are really going to depend a lot on how far exactly the range will be for blips shown on the map. We also have to remember that while it may not be introduced along with the proximity change, R* also discussed adding a range penalty for indiscriminate kills where the player will be shown as a progressively darkening blip and will be seen further away by others.

  17. I think it will be a disaster as well. It is going to create trigger happy and paranoid players when a another player/posse suddenly appears out of no where. I think it would escalate people getting shot.

  18. Yeah, I'm a little iffy on the whole proximity based blips as well. I had the same thoughts as you. We will really need to see how this whole proximity thing works, ranges, etc., but I can certainly see some drawbacks. IMO, the range needs to be long enough to allow players to see potential threats but short enough to keep players "off the radar" when they want to be. If it's too short, I can already see trolls setting up sniper positions near towns, quest points, etc. and using the lack of range to their advantage. When folks talked about this during development, I was all for it. .....but then I started to think of ways griefers could use it to their advantage. Now I'm just waiting to see how it all shakes out.

  19. Too cold. I'm used to the cold weather because my auntie and uncle live in Iceland. And me and the family visit them every year. Temperatures over there during winter can range from - 10° - 0° degrees fahrenheit in the highlands. Can't stand it when It's too hot. I don't mind the heat when it's like 30° - 45° degrees fahrenheit. But once it gets to the 60s, 70s, and 80s etc. I'll have my own personal Niagara falls dripping down my forehead.

  20. Agree with Yoda here. when I first started plying RDRO (its was on Day 2) I thought I was going to hate it because I'd hated every other PvP game I'd played and was expecting to be constantly griefed by much better/younger players who have grown up on COD, GTAO etc. Being the wrong side of 50 my reactions aren't as good, and I have limited time. So I was all for finding ways to stop griefing. However, while I still find it irritating at times when you get griefed by a Posse, I find it isn't that much of a problem for several reasons: 1) The map is huge and there are only 24 players at any one time so its easy to avoid people if you want to; 2) There are loads of missions etc to do and loads of other content; 3) The vast majority of people are not griefers and allow you to play 4) Most players are not that good and revenge is always sweeeet; 5) Once you spend the time to buff up your cards you get quite hard to kill anyway so many griefers tend to leave you alone and 6) The Parley/Feud system means that someone can only kill you 4 times anyway so why not try to fight them, if they kill you 4 times take the Parley and ride off into the distance. I don't think many of the anti-griefing steps to be introduced will help at all, especially only being able to see blips within a certain distance as you wont be able to select a quiet region. However, from an old, slow, newbie..just stick with it. If needs be play at a time when its quiet, to build your levels and abilty cards. I have been on a server with only 2 players, so I could hunt Herons etc near St Denis without even seeing another player. Take time to increase levels and buff those cards. Many people just don't bother with them but if you're not an excellent shooter they really help. But mostly, just accept that some people will always grief you. I have found that most people that are genuinely good at RDR play LSS etc rather than grief people, so take them on, it will only make you a better player. If you want a quiet life, as soon as you spawn, check the map to see where everyone is, check the players to see what levels are around. If you don't like the look of the area where you are, go somewhere else or do a mission that respawns you in a new location when it finishes. Finally, Posse up. There is safety in numbers. But remember that most griefers are just bullies at heart and they will just try to pick on the weak. Don't be a victim...be a badass mutha!! Outlaws for Ever!!! Could all be interesting, esp the Bounty / Rogue players elements. However, I really don't like the sound of Proximity Based blips. I have never had anyone chase across a map just to shoot me (anyway I'd see them coming), the issue as it is just people killing you because you are there. If you cant see where people are on the map then you can't select a quiet area to avoid other players if you want. I just can't see any benefit in this at all.

  21. The answer is cold. When it's cold, there's more options to warm up, but when you're in extreme heat, your options are limited. When it's cold, you can go indoors, build a fire, start moving around to generate body heat. When it's hot, you need either water or AC. Those are literally your only options. Stripping down just gets your jibbly bits sunburned.

  24. R* was open about how they were going to use some of the architecture from GTAO (I think they would be stupid not to), but they also want RDO to be a more unique experience to set itself apart from the GTA game world. Just the fact that they have acknowledged and will be implementing anti-griefing solutions tells me they are committed to a more balanced sense of gameplay in RDO than GTAO in that regard. Rumors are rumors but to me, actions are what really matter. As for whether these changes help or hinder is another story.

  29. Very, very true. I'm not even opposed to some of the griefer tactics (imo, lying in wait to ambush players at the butcher is actually quite brilliant), but shooting unarmed players coming out of a cutscene animation and then spawn killing them before they can even reorient is, frankly road apples. That's not a PvE versus PvP debate, that's just garbage design. I also think they need to take a hard look at level banding some of the servers. pitting someone below level 20 against players in the 80's or 90's is never going to be a fair fight, no matter how good or bad the average player is. Even the Showdown Series modes need some balancing--like deactivating a player's cards. I can't tell you how many times I've put a round in someone's head at point blank range in Gun Rush or other modes, only for them to laugh in my face as I get one-shot. Again, road apples. It eliminates any semblance of delineation by ability, much like having auto-aim. And what's worse, unskilled players with a "wide" auto aim setting and dialed up aim assist can burn you down with one hand tied behind their back. Hell, Stevie Wonder could play the game with settings like that.

  30. Sounds like a good idea to me. It's a positive subject too.

  31. Good enough for me. And I appreciate the level of engagement and courtesy in the discussion overall; this forum has a good thing going, and it's folks like yourself who can engage in a spirited debate without making things personal that keep this place both intellectually stimulating and entertaining. Pleasantries aside, let's delve into this a bit more: There is if a player's "toggle" status isn't publicly available. If the player isn't flagged at all, I would think the surprise element is intensified, rather than abated, because you will have no idea what their intentions are. Not having the status flagged or tagged for others maintains the element of surprise, so you won't know who will or won't attack you. But self-toggling is almost a way to troll a troll, because they can run up on your and try to attack, only to be met with futility. In a way, it's almost a perfect system and solution, because it ostensibly maintains the current status quo unless your aim is to attack random players for no reason other than to grief. As it stands now, literally every player is a threat, so if you're looking to mitigate the chances for a confrontation, all you have to do is avoid anyone and everyone. Hell, that's what I do now in Free Roam--I open my map and look to where the most open sector of the map is, and then fast travel there to do Stranger Missions. When I want to PvP, I play Gun Rush. Or rather, I try to play Gun Rush, only making it out of the lobby and into the match about one time out of every 8-10 attempts. R* needs to fix their game, beta or not, the experience is lacking specifically due to the frequent disconnects. But only if you yourself are flagged for PvP. Operating under the assumption that everyone is a threat, much as they potentially are today in the current compulsory PvP Free Roam mode, you constantly treat everyone as a threat. If a player's status isn't public information, a PvP player is then forced to continue to treat everyone as a threat. A quick toggle from PvE to PvP isn't a legitimate argument against implementing the system if the status isn't identified by the game, and only known to the individual player. For the sake of argument, let's assume that your scenario occurs; a PvE player approaches a PvP player, toggles, and then attacks. What sin has been committed? If the PvP player didn't want to be attacked, they should have been flagged as PvE. If the PvE player toggles and attacks, under the proposed model, they'd be unable to toggle back for thirty seconds once exiting combat. 30 seconds is more than enough time to respawn and attempt to avenge yourself. Under the current map model, your killer is tagged as an aggressor and stays on your minimap as long as they're in a relative proximity to you. Keeping that system in place allows the recently slain and respawned PvP player to seek retribution. Tie combat status to that proximity marker for aggressor status, and a player seeking revenge has more than enough opportunity to pursue vengeance. A lot of folks maintain that they love "having to watch their backs" or that they don't want R* to dilute the current experience. That logic is flawed because folks who are playing the game for it's RPG elements and leveling a character will play a Showdown Series or Gun Rush when they want to PvP--they don't actively seek out other players to indiscriminately ambush or murder. Giving PvE folks the ability to toggle off PvP status (that isn't broadcast to the rest of the players) changes nothing for anyone else on the server unless they're trying to murder that player or troll the PvE players. The "noble" PvP players who want a pure PvP experience lose nothing because those PvE players don't participate in the activity anyways. On a 32 player Free Roam server, what are the odds that a PvP player is going to be pitted against more than half a PvE population? I suppose if you're worried about being outnumbered by PvE players on a server, there can be quotas for entry based on what you're toggled at when you last logged out, such as no more than half the slots in a server can be pre-toggled to PvE, but more than half can be PvP. This seems reasonable in assuring the PvP experience isn't watered down, apart from trolls, while providing a PvE experience for those who need it. And if the servers fail to populate appropriately, it's just emblematic of the player population's desire for a more PvE than PvP overall, but I doubt that would happen. But if it did, R* could easily change the quota.

  33. I'm not saying that it's okay. But I'm my time of playing pvp heavy games, there is never true balance. One side or the other is always going to be unhappy. Then when the developer tries to please it sometimes ends up ruining the essence of the game. Yeah some players are assholes, just like in real life. Take a breath and move on and forget about it. You seem to be holding on to every toxic experience.

  35. As outlined in several posts before there is a thin line between actual PVP and "griefing". To me personally getting Free aim servers is the best solution for the PVE crowd. This will indeed significantly reduce the real griefing moments like insta kill on respawn and / the cutscene pop outs. It will in most cases also diminuish the times a player gets killed when fishing / skinning as long as the fisherman/hunter has decent situational awareness. Naturally Rockstar could also implement that you will not lose any hunted pelts and carcasses to cater a bit more to the PVE playerbase. Although I agree that there should be certain repercussions in other situations I again think some people use the term griefing too quickly and others use it not quickly enough. I see it in the posses I run as well. Escorting a coach - everyone is marked red dot. I give them the benefit of the doubt and 1 out of 5 times it costs me my life. Other posse members do not take that chance and shoot 1st. In either situation a sh*tshow follows. Now this part you could indeed fix with the toggle timer Bropollo suggested. I am however not sure this will work on servers in most situations. A possible solution might be that if player A kills player B 3 times the game makes player A go to Auto aim for 15 minutes when shooting at player B. For other encounters the auto aim applies until above situation arises again. Other "fixes" should be more honor related and the weightfactor it has on your gameplay. This would mean making it very expensive to gain honor and not by hunting and horsecaring for an hour. What kind of mechanics honor would involve could be open to suggestions, like single player make store prices much higher for "bad honor guys" and make it very difficult to enter populated areas without getting the law after you and restrict xp gain from that. However this will also be very , very difficult to balance as it is not per se the "griefing" and just as much the "outlaw" community that gets punished. Perhaps loss of honor by repeatedly killing the same players gets weighed more importantly. The thing is - balancing all of the above will be not 100% airtight and will cause a lot of new complaints. Which brings me back to my first point, Free Aim Servers should be the best spot for people wanting to have the improved PVE experience. You cannot have it all I am afraid as I can only see new issues arise with most of the balancing possibilities a developer has. However I do hope that Rockstar will provide some sort of repercussion system to the players that keep on attacking everyone at sight. Just dying and respawning does not help against players with the mindset to kill. Let's hope that Rockstar introduces free aim servers and hopefully finds ingenious ways to balance "griefing" without too much interference to the current gameplay.

  38. Ya know something dude, this is very true. And it's an exceptionally mature means of analyzing the issue with the griefing. We're not getting rid of it which some will find annoying, while others probably enjoy participating in it, heck, I'm sure some folk come in from a 12 hour shift at work and love nothing more than jumping in and shooting everyone in sight to relieve some stress. Most likely they're the ones who, if they wanted to fish and chill, would actually ditch the gamepad, grab a rod and actually go outside into the real world to do it. We're all different at the end of the day.

There is a large community that plays the game as intended but there is also a large segment that wants to make the whole damned place a big fortnite and frankly I am tired of these people. We need invite only sessions and we need them sooner rather than later. But the a$$hats have also paid there money and deserve to play it to there liking. So again we need invite only sessions. The best answer in my opinion. I continue to put that into my feedback on daily basis and I encourage all of you to do the same.

Griefer tried again, this time diving around like a professional soccer player trying to milk a penalty. BOOM! Roared my bolt action once more. Griefer dead. Then I chased this idiot and laughed watching him diving this way and that before I killed him again.
