  1. I've got 43 hours in solo play and 21 hours in coop play. For my solo character, I'm at level 24 and still have about 1/3 of the map to really explore. .....not including side missions and other activities I still dabble in within the other zones I've cleared. I'm taking my time and there's still tons of action. I try not to use fast travel too often and I get involved where I can in random activities (e.g. friendly engagements, faction fights, hostage rescues, wandering enemies, broadcasts, supply drops, etc.).

  3. 49 hours down, and I JUST hit L30 last night, with 5-8 missions to go (unless I'm missing something). And that's just to start progression through Endgame and World Tiers. Then there's the and the Tidal Basin Raid drops on Friday.

  5. The whole thing is being blown out of proportion. If you kill more animals than you can carry, they despawn. They respawn fairly quickly. It is not like the buffalo spawn once in a day cycle or something. I just don't understand to need to simplify one of the games basic activities. In GTA , your character was not dependent on food like it is in RDO. Apples and oranges. I played solo until about level 50 and not once did I feel the need to go to the local Red Dead Soup Kitchen for a hot free meal. I don't feel it really has a place or is needed. Nothing should be free. Want food? Hunt/buy. Want money/xp? Grind missions/Showdown,etc. Seems pretty simple. Why over complicate it? I'm all for people buying all the meat you can hunt in game from the butcher. If you don't want to hunt or can't shoot animals...you have the options to buy what you need. Handouts are never a good idea. And I feel most have been respectful for the most part. It is just some people like to release their dark side apparently when people don't agree with them. No need to lash out at people. I understand this is the internet, but still. No need to get insulting or disrespectful. I know personally I am an asshole. And I am fine with that. But I have behaved myself very well even when provoked. So Chill out. Maybe try decaf.

  6. I think the daily challenges often spur people into "griefing"-type behaviour. The other day I had 3 daily challenges which were "5 player kills with Pump Action Shotgun", "5 player kills with Double Barreled Shotgun" and "Play 2 Free Roam Events". It wasn't long and I ended up in a Sidearm Kills challenge free roam event, so I quickly got my pump action kills in there before the event actually started. Then I had to wait for another free roam event and my gaming time was winding down for the evening. I wanted to get the double barrel kills in another free roam event instead of cycling through the annoying "Make it Count" type modes, so I decided to approach red dots in free roam to see if they were hostile... Here's how it went... LOL: I casually rode to the first red dot I found, and began picking herbs nearby, waiting for them to kill me so I could try to kill them. They were hunting deer. He walks up to me, and drops a Good deer pelt at my feet, waves and leaves... Uhhh... OK! I spotted a blue dot riding on a train, so I figured I'd ride alongside it in case they needed kills from a moving train. I got up beside them and suddenly somebody riding on the other side of the train killed me with a bolt action. I only managed 2 or 3 kills on him with the damn double barrel and he killed me countless times with the bolt action at a distance. We both got bored and moved on. I rode to Valentine and along the road, a purple player had a red player hogtied and over his shoulder. I slowed down to see if he'd try me. He raised his revolver and I pulled my double barrel and he turned around and started in the other direction. I decided to let rip hoping I'd nail both players for my last 2 kills but only one counted. Then there was another red player driving a coach (not in a mission) so I blasted him. I let them kill me after then went and paid my bounty at the nearby post office. My point being, All the players who I HOPED would be a troll turned out chill, and the true trolls were the blue dots! Like another time I was peacefully bow hunting and a blue dot rode up, stopped 2 feet in front of me and planted an arrow in my face, then galloped away lol.

  12. I did. I danced in a saloon for about 15 minutes before some guy blew my head off with his sawnoffs... seriously though, it’s an online game with built in voice functionality. I hate how 95% or more don’t use it. Even when you try to initiate dialogue. It’s a personal gripe of mine when it comes to the other players... hell, even having my head taken off with a double barrel for no apparent reason would be easier to handle if the shooter followed up with ‘sorry. Daily challenge’

  13. I think it's especially a problem if there is a posse in the game - they all gang up to kick someone who's spoiling their fun by beating them.

  14. I finally saw lake challenge pop yesterday and found it to be a learning experience. I spawned on an island, and during the challenge I noticed the front runner was killing it, 5+ lb fish every couple minutes. So after the challenge, I decided to look around the island and I found her honey hole. A shipwreck. How do I know it was the winners spot you ask. It was from the picture of her at the end. It showed her with a wooden structure behind her. Kinda helps to know the area it seems.

  15. The story mission , highly illegal and highly immoral puts you North of saint Denis , simply do parts 1 and 2 then go hunting in marsh lands , sell at butcher , then complete mission. Pays xp and good cash !

  17. This is precisely my problem with the daily challenges and the dot system in general - it encourages you to be the aggressor knob towards everyone on the expectation they will be the same or to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and end up the victim, hogtied on the ground, missing your head 90% of the time. Yesterday was a perfect example - I did a load of hunting in New Austin and rode towards Blackwater to sell up when suddenly every dot on the screen was out to ride after me and kill me. Immediate thought was bloody griefers but a bit later that it occurred to me these were likely just regular players wanting to trigger feuds for the daily challenge. A bit later my brother and I were doing the countering a stranger mission task on each other but one was taking a wagon into Valentine so of course we encountered other players and had to treat them all as aggressors and shoot on sight, no doubt appearing as griefers to at least one guy, who in retrospect, I don't think wanted anything to do with the mission. I let him revenge kill me after the mission ended and went on my way. My brother attempted to initiate feuds with a couple of the players by killing them again but they weren't interested so probably just thought he was a di*k. We generally clear off the PvP tasks with each other but lately there seem to be more and more which you can't do with just 2 of you or in the PvP modes, making free-roam into grief-roam. Anyone know, by the way, what the cool-off time is for initiating or accepting a feud with the same player? evilcd - I think the reason missions pay out more the longer you take is because R* were kind of burned by certain missions in GTAO being exploited by players finding ways to complete the best paying missions in really short order and then just grinding them over and over earning millions within hours of gameplay. You could argue thats poor mission design and a lazy solution or perhaps just acceptance that people will always find a way to work the system. It was a better solution than just removing those missions (which they also tried) for those of us that liked the variety of the missions and just wanted to play them normally.

  18. To force respawning, save your game, exit to the main menu and load again. To be on the safe side, I'd sleep again after the game has loaded. Note that some animals are only active at certain times of day/night.

  20. Women gaming isn't an issue... It is the dudes who are so desperate for female attention/interactions that makes it bad. If the ones who do it only for attention knew they wouldn't get attention, then we would be left with nothing but people who just enjoy playing games.

  21. I have a few friends who will troll other players. They do annoying things just to get a laugh and I can see the appeal in it but you would think after a while it would become boring to them. When they do their little runs on other players, I just do my own thing.

  22. I agree..... My own take on this whole food share idea is that it's really a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Gathering food is already ridiculously easy enough for anyone to do as is cooking. As for actual sharing, you can already do that with friends or randoms nearby (if you want to take that chance). I do it all the time when I have a good carass, large pelt, meat, etc. I'll let my friend take it or vice versa when we go hunting together. A good portion of the RDO experience is about the grind and some of the routines folks need to go through. .....and hunting, cooking and/or buying your own food from a vendor to maintain your character is part of that. The same an be said about leveling and earning enough money to create or unlock certain ammo types for yourself.

  23. Many of the above posts I agree totally with. Dot colour seems meaningless nowadays as the daily challenges make you grief and become a red dot on the map just to achieve a challenge then you may be passive from then onwards. On the other hand you see a passive blue dot, continue to hunt, gather around that person and BANG, a bullet in the head because they are completing a daily challenge. This system created by R* seems a farce. I’m happy to work with others to gain the challenges taking turns to drop each other but for some reason mic communication seems to be lacking so this doesn’t seem to be an option. What is the answer? A hunter, fisherman, gatherer room only? Or Change the daily challenges to prevent griefing which R* colour dot system was supposed to do? Onto daily challenges and missions. Like was said in previous posts, they’re repetitive, boring, old and dull. I have always asked why do you get rewarded for taking forever to complete a mission when surely the quicker it is completed the better skilled the player. Please correct me if I am wrong and have missed the point there with missions. Challenges are repeated regularly and that rooster challenge is a bore, how many times do you find a chicken coup and no chickens / roosters???!!! Things need...no must be shaken up and soon. I use to play daily with a large group of friends. Many have grown bored and are playing other titles, some months, even years old. I play only occasionally now until I find others to join up with or the game livens up again as it is soooooo repetitive. Finally on my rant, the XP system. I had goals personally set that kept me grinding out the hours in game. I’m at level 63 now (not very high I know) but until I get to the 80s and 90s the rewards to unlock are in my eyes rubbish. A shirt, a holster, a hat, etc. I understand there can’t be fabulous rewards on each level but come on, you grind out over 5000 XP to unlock a hat?! Even some levels there is only one reward to unlock. Is it worth the hours? I’m not sure. Hence my boredom with the game. I really want this game to succeed and be great, but there is so much wrong in every department. I would be very interested to hear others opinions. R* how about Double XP days to help get through these boring levels or think up some new, exciting, useful rewards to unlock so we have new goals to aim for? Or better new challenges and missions...please R* pleeeeaaaase!

  24. I believe that is the one where you go and pick flowers and sell them to the Doc in Valentine. Make money and gain xp. Good for both.

  25. You say nothing because it's none of your God damn business how they play when it doesn't affect you! I hunt a lot. A majority of my time is spent hunting, both for eating and selling. I don't give a rat's ass if somebody would rather buy their food or get it for free from a donation bin. Hell I'll even volunteer to hunt for them. It will give me something to do. It doesn't bother me that they are "too lazy" to do it themselves. I couldn't care less for pvp. I'll only do it when I feel it is necessary or my friends want to go a few rounds. When the new anti griefing update hits I'll be going passive because I just don't want to deal with the sh*t even though I'm more than capable of doing so. Are you going to complain that passive players are "too lazy" to defend themselves too?

  26. No one is stopping you from hunting for yourself either. If you're so bad at the game that you need handouts, then idk what to tell you. It's a nice gesture but not needed. You can just as easily kill something and give it to someone. Also also, to the one wanting to open up a shop to sell animal parts. Why? When it's cheaper to hunt the animal yourself. What do we need parts for, right now? Even single player the stuff that the trapper was asking for wasn't difficult to get.

  28. The way never without one works is instead of taking a headshot when you are wearing a hat, your hat gets shot off. It doesn't matter what hat you are wearing, it's the same effect regardless. Once your hat gets shot off, you are vulnerable to headshots as well as taking increased damage until you can put your hat back on, which you can do from your horse.

  29. I think it really depends on the servers you get on or time of day. I have had days where players just want to grief and run from PvP and then I have had days where it's all PvE as far as the eyes can see.

  30. There is literally nothing to do in this game for. Like the other commenter said, nothing to grind for. They need better missions, more things to own, gambling between players in the saloon and more people in the servers.

  31. But I thought it was "just a game". If something like this was added, no one is forcing you to participate in it.🙄

  33. In just over 600 showdowns I've voted to kick 3 times, 2 of which people were ghosting, and 1 recently who was doing something that meant you could not lock onto them, and they were invulnerable to damage (their record over 3 games was over 100 kills and zero deaths). I do think there is some value in the kick function, but it might be just as easy to leave the game and re-join another one. I have been kicked twice, both of which were after I had won a game, either Name Your Weapon or Most Wanted. Just bad losers, I think.

  34. This kind of stuff has happened for a while for me. Some days worse than others. Just a few days ago I was on a server where a large group was just yelling at each other and doing basically what you said in the OP. Like everyone else mentioned, the rise in this is likely down to boredom.

  35. Doesn't sound like anything new to me. Been seeing it since I started and it hasn't increased much imo, decreased a little. But I assume it's partly the challenges they are doing. Even though we're supposedly encouraged to do them in the showdowns and such. Ngl, I've blown people up for that 2 in 1 dynamite challenge. But I let them kill me a few times before poofing away.

  36. Lack of Content. People are just bored as hell with the game, and their dripfed content and PvP mode updates aren't helping anything in Free Roam which should be their main focus. There are a million PvP games with the same game modes. There are few to non with the Free Roam aspect. People have already hunted to the point of extinction, same with fishing. Stranger missions are being done in people's sleep considering they played the hell out of them. As long as there isn't anything noteworthy being released in Free Roam you will see this increase at a fast rate.

  38. I believe animals are just graded small/medium/large when it comes to XP awarding. Birds are your best bet as they can easily be taken down in groups and award the same as a medium animal. Hunting is better for grinding $ than for XP although it does rack up the XP over a time, especially when you add in the XP for the awards you can get from it.

  39. More than One way to Earn a Buck Set a timer for 30 minutes Do the first part and kill everyone, leave 1 crate Go hunting and sell stuff in Valentine OR go to St Denis and execute policeman for XP I average 980 XP and $58.35 for completing the mission. I also get around $120 from the materials I sell during the mission. XP is up to how fast you are, most I have gotten killing cops is 1500 One or the other, you can't do both. There are no alligators, cougars, or bears in the mission. Oh well. Nor can you go fishing. This is the best I have found so far.

  40. I like this idea. They would need to put add few safeguards to prevent it from being a trolling tool or being used as bait. Color coding the dots to match the person who pinged it would be easy enough to eliminate it being used as bait. Also, if you hover over the location on the map it should tell you what's in it, to prevent trolls making you travel to a location for a 1* rat carcass or something.

  41. Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally against hunting especially when it comes to feeding your family. Sport/trophy hunting is a different story.

  42. It fits considering your pennywise profile picture.😉 IRL I'm no hunter, I'm an animal lover, just not PETA extreme.
    1 point
  43. Well I don't have a chart or anything, but I can tell you that hunting is one of the slowest ways to gain xp. Do as many of the daily challenges as you can each day. Each one is worth 200 xp. Clearing enemy hideouts is worth 150 xp plus the xp you get for killing the enemies themselves. You'll get bonus xp for headshots, long distance shots, using special ammo, etc. Go into your progress menu and look at your awards. If you've achieved any gold belt buckles, make sure you reset those awards if it lets you because you get xp for each milestone you reach on every reward. You can reset awards up to 10 times as you achieve them. Stranger missions are always good for xp. Take your time, the less time left on the clock when you finish it, the more xp and money you get. Finally, there's always pvp. The showdown series is pretty good for money and xp. Spoils of war was great for it.

  44. That's what pay to win is. Letting low ranks buy overpowered sh*t just cuz they have the irl money for it. A bad disease that seems to plague most MMOs. So far it hasn't fully touched RDO yet. It's not crazy and feels good when you finally get to the rank to obtain/use it. Low ranks with explosives is like giving a tantrum ridden 5 year old a flamethrower. Also slippery bastard basically makes your accuracy sh*t and you can't lock on to them, they can't lock on to you. Very handy in showdowns like fool's gold and that one I can't remember but you gotta get the other team's loot bag.
    1 point
  45. Yes. Very common and likely just a limitation of the game (not a bug). If animals, etc. are outside of a certain range, the can despawn. The trick is to keep items within the area of the minimap if possible. .....but even in the best circumstances it could still happen at times. Could be due to how much has to be rendered at the time.

  46. I have dual Schofields for mid range combat and dual sawed offs for cqc. I can't give you an opinion on pistols. I do not currently have any in my possession. Repeating shotgun is a longarm weapon. It won't go in a holster.

  47. Special Dead Eye features are enabled as part of story missions, you've probably seen these notifications pop up during Chapters 1 and 2. The next level will come in Chapter 4 ("Banking, the old American Art"), Chapter 5 ("Fleeting Joy"), and Chapter 6 ("Goodbye Old Friend"). You'll have to wait until Chapter 5 to have the fatal areas highlighted. Your health/stamina/dead eye outer rings are just that - you get increasing amounts of them as you add more to the outer ring. There's no additional features.

  48. "11 o'clock" and "1 o'clock " on the weapon when is where you set the sidearms. You can also do it while in a gun store by selecting the customize option, selecting the gun you want and selecting where it is carried.
    1 point
  49. You need a minimum of 2 guns to dual wield. You set one to your regular holster and one to your off hand. You can mix and match with pistols, revolvers and sawed off shotguns. When you have your 2 guns set select the "12 o'clock" position on the weapon wheel to dual wield.
    1 point
  50. The only thing I can think of is offhand holsters like the deadbolt holster allow you to dual wield pistols, revolvers or sawed off shotguns. Other than that, it's all cosmetic.
