I know everyone is saying how the Black Arabian is just the most expensive but not the best horse in the game (some even say it's one of the WORST) because it's so skittish and tiny and whatnot, and it seems to have become almost a "no-go" to be out and about on this horse. Honestly tho? I've been playing the game from the beginning and I bought the Black Arabian as soon as I could and I've now tried out a number of other horses and, as much as I love my Good Guy Kladruber my Black Arabian is still my go-to horse for everything. I've even figured out how to do bounty hunter missions with him: Everyone knows that, as soon as you've hogtied your bounty, a bunch of NPCs show up and start shooting at you. This is where my trusted companion used to buck and run, but no more - I just whistle for him RIGHT AFTER I've put the bounty on his back, and he stays right where he is and I can either dispose of the NPCs on the ground or get up on my horse and do it from horseback. I do the same when I use him for hunting - I just hit the "calm" button as soon as I hear wolves howling and he doesn't buck me, only when I don't manage to shoot all the wolves quickly does he get skittish, but my Turkoman and Kladruber get skittish at around the same point in time, so there's no noticable difference to me. (Keep in mind I'm talking about all this with MAXIMUM Black Arabian horse bonding.) I do agree that he's rather tiny and can look like a pony sometimes but he's FAST, and that makes up for it, especially when you have to go all across the map to get at your bounty target. And I like that he basically squeezes through everything and jumps over everything. Sure we crash from time to time but it's not nearly as many times as I crash when I use my Turkoman - that horse is cool and all but oh so bulky. And the Kladruber is even worse in that regard, lol. (I do love the big horses though, don't misunderstand me.) So yeah, I love my Black Arabian horse and I think it gets way too much "nope". But then I also suffer from anxiety and get skittish at things, maybe that's why I relate so much to the horse and can sense when he's about to have enough and that's why we get along so well? Hmm.1 point

I feel like I need to lock myself indoors for the next month because no matter where I go, I hear Mariah Carey at least once a damn day. When I was growing up, I was fine with it but since the music has been to same for how many years now??... It has just become a repetitive nightmare!!1 point

Panther and snake ones are the best IMO. You have to be ranked up enough and have the gold to afford them though.1 point

I was on a server that was loaded up with animals as well. Felt like it was Christmas morning. Not sure how the fish were biting but I got plenty of hunting in.1 point

I had griefers galore yesterday while I was by myself. None of them above level 20. I cant believe lassoing people is still a thing. That was sooooo 2018. Sometimes the bugs work in your advantage. I didn't have a camp but the animals outside of St Denis were crazy. Deer, cranes, herons, pigs, small gators (big ones suck)...I have never seen it like that. My wagon is maxed out and will be set on supplies for Cripps for a bit.1 point

Two things... (maybe) 1. When you first pull up the Big Game meat in the crafting menu it only presents the "plain big game" recipe, unless you use your d-pad to the left or right to show you the other big game recipes for mint, thyme, and oregano. 2. If you already have the big game meat made and max filled your pack you will not be allowed to make more until more space is available. Just the first two things that came to mind as I have not seen any issues recently. Hope it helps.1 point

Ahh man, and combat/weapons are disabled in these events too, right? Damn, you can't even defend yourself either! š Rest in tattered pieces from being mauled repeatedly lol Cats are the worst... I love them hahaha1 point

You're very welcome - I'm glad you're enjoying your new horse buddy so much! The horse does have some of the best stats in the game for a reason, and if you know how to handle it the whole skittish-ness all but disappears as well. And yeah, I forgot to mention that NPCs randomly compliment you when you're riding the Black Arabian. My favorite thing one of them said to me once was "That horse looks better than my wife." LMAO!1 point

Got the Black Arabian, have had him for a little while now so as to get him fully bonded and sample him across a range of activities. Have to be honest - I completely love it and haven't ridden the Kladruber or Thoroughbred in a fortnight. I haven't been bucked once, have done legendary bounties and hunted big game, the speed is unreal and the size suits my nattily-dressed cowboy look very well. Hadn't expected NPCs to keep saying 'that's one nice horse, mister', which provides bonus entertainment. But anyway - for me it was well worth the 42 Gold and is my new go to horse. (Although my daily challenge streak is around 50, now, so between that and various missions gold is pretty much piling up around me.) But the headline is - great horse, thank you, @MrPicard, for pushing me over the edge into a purchase. I'll never need another horse!1 point

not sure if it was the tackling or just the fact I got to him while he was still up top (thanks sheep), but the mission finally worked like it was supposed to, Thanks @Trespasser1 point

Try cutting him off during his run. He starts by taking off going down towards the road going right, cut him off. You'll be able to. I think u can even get ahead of him.1 point

After catching the Legendary Steelhead Trout somewhere near Willard's Crest, North of Annesberg, i noticed that i was in the vicinity of the Legendary Moose. So i figured why not kill two birds w/ one stone since i'm already there. I finally was able to kill the moose as well, BUT witha problem. I could only stow 1 of them. I hadn't figured that out. Of course there was no way i was gonna leave one behind and come back for it so i stowed the fish and hand carried the moose pelt, hoofed it the rest of the way to Annesburg w/ my trusty steed following close behind. The danger of doing that was i had to pass through Roanoke ridge known for it's notoriety with those weird hillbillies. True enough i was ambushed by 5 dirty dudes with not so purty mouths. Anyways, i killed them all. Made my way to Annesburg to mail the fish to the quest giver. Stowed the pelt and hopped on a train to St. Denis to see the trapper for the pelt and the fence for the trinket. Things i had to do in this wonderful masterpiece of a game. I loved the entire journey.1 point

I like the fishing challenges. They're the only Free Roam events where I have a half-decent chance at winning. Today there was one up north at Brandywine. As the event gets underway, I hear screams in the distance. Male and female. I think maybe some idiot is messing with people somehow and briefly roll my eyes at kids these days, but focus on the fishing. Halfway into the event, I landed two 18 pounders and am narrowly in the lead, but my spot isn't great, so I decide to move up the river a little. Turns out the one messing with people wasn't some idiot kid, but a panther. And since combat is disabled during the fishing events, i spent the second half of the contest getting mauled over and over again by an angry cat, taking no damage, but also unable to fight back. At one point I managed to start fishing again, hoping it would leave me alone once I was in the fishing animation, and I even hooked another fish, but nope, the panther got me again before I could land it. I finished 2nd. PS. And just as I finished typing this, my cat threw up on the bed. Not a good cat day today...1 point

I second this. The thing is hideous. I love the perks of it but it is just an absolute eyesore no matter what horse you put it on.1 point

Good to hear they are sorting out issues like this. I know when I was having trouble with a few missions my first play through, it was frustrating but by my second play through, everything had been sorted and I was able to full enjoy the game.1 point

Naah, I'll stick with the game maps. I'm normally not much of a collector, never 100%-ed a game etc, because that kinda requires you to google stuff, and that seems rather boring to me. But with the Collector's maps, that's just enough gamefication to make it fun for me. But I get it, different strokes for different folks, no judgment here.1 point

Anyone pick up anything good? I managed to drag myself out of bed to get a tool set for my pops. It was marked down from $100 to $40. I know he will love it.1 point

Honestly, I think the ammo selection we have now is a touch on the ridiculous side for the timeline... Iām pretty sure most folks in the day fed their guns whatever hunk of lead they could melt down over a measure of black powder or cordite... or the standard factory junk from the dry goods store or catalog... But it is supposed to be a little over the top I suppose... I could ask for more shotgun rounds, birdshot perhaps?1 point

As freak mentioned, stick with missions that allow you to remain in Defensive Mode. Don't expose yourself unnecessarily like that in missions that invite other players to attack you. ......or if you still want to, find a posse to play with in our Posse Recruitment forum. You'll have the added protections you'll need to tackle these kinds of missions while also learning new tips and tricks from those with more experience.1 point

On PC? Console started off a little rough too. I have a theory that new players step into a game and do these things just the test the limits for a while... as for being too far to see, well, some of those rifles can reach out a ways beyond the mini map... Or someone is cheating I suppose. That seems to happen more on PC.1 point

I Am very aware of your position, you say if you play a certain way, stay away from others, give a wide berth, etc.. you can minimize your issues, I get it. And I did take your advice for a time and it was somewhat effective, no doubt. I was more disapointed because I had avoided online games for years but I loved this game so much I coudnt get enough, after finishing the story ode 3 times I jumped in and well, things didnt get off to a good start. My very first day in the online game a group of players slowly followed me to my camp, which I was running to because I thought it gauranted my safety and I didnt know what they were up too, one took my horse and started leading him away and I panicked and started shooting, lol I was quickly killed and then after a few more kills, all on my part as I had a cattleman, a carbine and I think a bow, we started talking and they laughed and explained to me, as a matter of practice when they see a new player they like to follow them to their camp and then just be obnoxious to see what the new player does, kind of a crappy thing to do, but to them this was fun. That was my first ever day in game, and I have three or four other really rough days, actually far worse than that day, but after a while as I Said above, I developed a strategy similar to what you recommended I do, and that shifted over time. Your advice is good advice and yes it will help a player struggling with others a little, no doubt, but again, I love this game and I am not going to continually be the one to yield. The day the Spring update hit, that first day with the hostility system in place, I went to Valentine, parked my horse and walked up and down the sidewalk, shopping, drinking etc.. it was great, I had no fear at all, I had over estimated the systems protections, but for that day, it was glorious and so much fun, for the very first time I did whatever I wanted to do with zero fear of being hassled, and once you taste that freedom, there is no going back. Im also stubborn, as my game history will clearly show, when I set out to do something, one way or the other I do it, but you and a few others did keep me in game in the early days as my expectations were a lot different than what I experienced and I was truly disappointed. I basically played alone, all the time, I either hid in Colter hunting and running those missions over and over and over to level up and before that I fished, I fished my way from level 7 to level 38, then from 38 to 100 I ran Colter, sure I still had issues but they were far fewer over all and they didnt bother me as much as I had a hard target goal. Also, around level 38 I joined a mil sim community which meant I wasnt alone anymore, we did a lot of recruiting and fought group battles, etc.. and that conditioning and experience gave me the confidence and drive to level up and fight back so the remaining 62 levels werent as agonizing as the first 38, plus they ran some bonus weeks where they lowered the requirements for certain horses and weapons, and I took advantage of those times, I was grinding like it was my job. When I got to level 94ish it was in sight, once I hit level 100 I switched my strategy once again I equipped myself and did whatever I wanted, I didnt walk on egg shells or hide anymore, I ran all the missions, I did the remaining story missions I didnt know existed because I was always high honor, etc.. as I was able to protect myself a lot more than when I was a lower level fewer issues sprung up. So, after level 100 I no longer stressed over it in general and I definitely didnt yield to players simply because I Was afraid of being attacked, once you get dyna arrows and exploding rounds and tier 3 cards, your confidence goes way up. Today, if you just start it is a whole other game, I see people everyday in game and we are all so busy collecting, hunting, etc.. most of the time, there is no interaction, some times we talk and hang a bit, and every once in a while usually a new player will take some cheap shots, but it hardly ever happens at all anymore. Only one time I can think of that a high level player just chose me to target for no reason, it happens, but as I said, even not worrying about others, it almost never happens at all anymore to me anyway.1 point

š What forum? I have no issues going there and tell them that their potatoe PC needs fixing! š Na, kidding, but still curious about what the toxic forum you mentioned?1 point

Well, to be fair, long distance wagon deliveries are subject to being raided robbed, etc.. that is part of the game. I dont mind that at all, now mind you I never waste my time doing it to others as I know how frustrating it is to get all that stuff together then try to deliver it, but when it happened to me, I didnt get upset, I realized, I took a chance and lost, which is why I now only do local deliveries, lol it is $500 gauranteed that extra $150 I can make up by collecting while out there and I put my camp so these local delivers take me around 3 minutes, so the time I Save allows me to more than make up for that $150. That isnt griefing, it is just playing the game as it was intended, grieifng is people going out of their way when you are doing nothing or some benign thing and they go out of their way to kill you, chase you around the map, follow you to other servers, bait you in then take advantage of the current system to make you the red blip etc.. Killing you while you re fishing definitely qualifies as griefing if you ask me. Any activity meant to ruin your time for their amusement when it is not necessarily part of the game meaning there is no gain for them to do it. We will never be rid of it as people are just unpredictable and curious and etc.. so it will always happen to some extent and that is part of the game to, we cant help it or fully stop it, but it has been reduced to such small factor that you just dont see it as much as it used to happen.1 point

Funny this exact thing happened to me a few times back in the day, not in a long long time, but people used to walk right up to me while I was fishing at night and just head shot me from 5 feet away then ride off, lol, it is frustrating, but it doesnt seem to happen anymore. I disagree with anyone suggesting you have to act a certain way to avoid jerks for the lack of a better term in game. I get the outlaw stuff and all that but some of it was just lame, and noone should be forced to behave a certain way or else in any game. In time as you rank up you can insulate yourself from these type of players to some extent and not have to worry about treating every other player like a serial killer and staying very clear, you should be able to play it anyway you want if you arent bothering anyone and not worry about being murdered simply for existing. Sadly right or wrong, it kind of is that way, but as I started to say, if you rank up, rank up your cards, load up on powerful ammo types, etc.. you can give yourself a good chance to survive these encounters so if this does happen you have a very good chance to escape or dish it out to whoever it was that thought it would be fun to interrupt your game time with their nonsense without having to curb your plans. if you just rode a long way to collect an item you need to complete a set and you get there to find a player or group of players doing whatever they want, you should not have to leave the area in fear that these players migth decide to take target practice out on you, but if they do, and you are prepared for it, meh, its currently pretty manageable. Keans advice is sound advice to be sure to minimize these things, especially if you are vulnerable because of your rank or loadout, I just take issue with this approach personally, despite how difficult it is to mitigate no player should have to have their time interrupted because other players just decide to hassle you, in a game with several ways to pvp, there just is no excuse, I think we make way to many concessions for players doing this. I have never killed another player or even shot at another player who didnt shoot at me first, and Ive played nearly every day for 8 months, so I just think others could show a little respect for others time and use the rule, if you dont me, dont shoot at me, unless I am shooting at you. But as we all know that just isnt how it is , but it does seem to be a LOT better than it was.1 point

Hey I made an account so I could give u guys the solution. I've tried everything from putting my pc on a dmz, changing dns, port forwarding, etc, etc. It turns out that the solution is to use a VPN. I used protonvpn (I think, not at pc right now) but it was free and it solved my problems. So if you haven't tried a VPN, give it a shot. You will stop disconnecting, a freind of mine had the same problem and it also fixed his. Edit: I also tried that lasso program, it didn't work for me.1 point

I have the "chestnut bay" Arabian. Turned him into a genuine chestnut by changing his mane and tail colors. I love this horse and probably won't stop riding him while progressing through the game. (I'm lvl 26 or 27 at the moment.) Although he doesn't have the absolute best stats, he suits me just fine. He's fast, agile, not easily spooked and just fun for my character to ride. If players like the black Arabian, or any other horse for that matter, enjoy it. The differences between the horses are relatively minor, so enjoy whatever pleases you, and to heck with what others say is "the best."1 point
-
Yup, I love all those facts about my Black Arabian as well. I do use other horses from time to time but I always go back to my trusted Arabian friend. What I also love is that he just trots on and on, you just have to hit the x button once and he'll trot and trot while other horses stop walking after a few steps and you have to press the x button again. (I'm annoyed by small things like that, yes. lol)1 point

I have a Black Arabian, MFT, and all 3 level 20 role horses. I still only ride the Arabian. The size and handling are what makes it great. Full gallop 90° turn and no need to hit the "brakes". And small enough to see around easily and avoid obstacles. She's like a little black cruise missile death machine. Don't know why everyone complains that their skittish. I used her on all 5 wolfman levels. I just didn't have any problems. A close second to me now is the Criollo. Great horse. I've heard all the negativity surrounding the Black Arabian, and if you're thinking about getting one, do it!1 point

I have a red chestnut Arabian that is kickass. I love the speed. Endurance really isn't all that necessary. I like to be able to ride fast. And if you feed it a good horse meal and some hay along the way it will ride all day long.1 point

I think a cool option would be to allow traders to hire bounty hunters to escort them. Similar to the stranger missions.1 point
