Be warned. Level 91 players packing Explosive ammo
Kean_1 replied to RED_DEADMAN's topic in Red Dead Online
My remark was in jest. ......hence the the emote. .....although there were a few reached that level early on in the game as I mentioned. As it stands now it's not unusual to run into higher level players and there has been weeks for people to make that happen. I didn't intend for anyone to feel offended by my remark. -
I would report it to R* through their support page if you haven't already. Make sure to click the bug / technical issue option on the following page. It will route you to the support site: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=f2e50892

Rock Star announce that the BETA phase will last months.
Kean_1 replied to dredd1961's question in Questions & Answers
This is the announcement folks are talking about from last week: https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60804/Red-Dead-Online-Beta-Update "Red Dead Online will stay in beta for a few more months yet as we have many more new gameplay features to add across the board as well as further changes to improve, stabilize and refine the overall experience." The thing is, this was actually stated before the RDO beta was even launched so (to me at least) their mention of it in the last update wasn't anything unexpected. R* has been very upfront with all of this even before the game's release. The launch of the Red Dead Online Beta is the first step in what will be a continually expanding and dynamic world, and the beta period will allow us to deal with the inevitable turbulence of launching any online experience of this size and scale. During this process, we will be looking to our dedicated community to help us report and fix problems, share ideas, and assist in shaping the future of the full Online experience. As with all of our releases, we will strive to make the launch of Red Dead Online the best it can possibly be, and we ask that the community share that spirit with us over the next weeks and months. -

Kean_1 replied to RED_DEADMAN's topic in Red Dead Online
My experience has been mixed although when someone is roaming around with names like "xxITROLLUxx", etc., it's a safe bet they're up to no good. .....seriously though, I run into players with names like that who are high and low level. They are part of what I like to call my proactive blocking program. -

There have been people over level 100 for a while now. They are either paying people to help them level up, using exploits and / or have no life. 😁 -
The Beta has Outworn its Welcome (Rant-a-tat-tat)
Kean_1 replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
Yeah, you definitely can't just ride into a town where there are people. In fact, most of us who want to avoid griefers have to be on constant guard and plan our routes, activities and destinations accordingly. I use the phone app and it's been a life saver in this respect. When I spawn in to a new session I usually go where most people are not. Sometimes that's down by Tumbleweed, other times its on the opposite side of the map so I hunt along the way to make the travel worth it. I've also become pretty good at reading other players and their intentions. ....so much so that I will sometimes ride into towns and even pass them by without much worry if I believe they are just minding their own business. I spend a couple minutes essentially people watching. ....you can tell a lot about players in RDO by observing what they do on the map. Now, when I'm with a posse of friends, it's a bit of a different story and depending on the number in my group, we can take more risk around folks (especially those playing solo). IMO, it's still not fun for the rest of us who constantly have to watch our backs for some idiot that wants to put a bullet in your head for absolutely no reason other than to troll or grief. ....and I do mean no reason since there really isn't one. The XP isn't worth it and there is no gain in currency or goods. Trolls try to provoke a response regardless of how you feel about the encounter while griefers simply want to make your life miserable any way they can. Free Roam needs balance and I hope the upcoming changes help. -
There is more clothing "coming soon" in the beta and I'm sure some of that may include outfits locked behind Gold Bars. ......which is fine by me considering they are only keeping cosmetics behind a paywall.

When you select a member from the player list, there is an option to invite, report, etc. and one where you can view their profile. This will open their PSN profile. If you select the box with "...", there you will have the option to block. For posses that are a problem, I go to "posse" within the menu and select the appropriate one. From there you select each of the members and then the rest is the same process. Hope that makes sense.

Kean_1 replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
Well, I didn't say it was a model that didn't favor PvP. ....but R* is clearly trying to sell the PvE aspect of it as well to players and if they can add some balance, I don't see why RDO couldn't be more enjoyable for coop / PvEers like myself. -
What a campy but watchable movie, although that "Stitch Jones" character Peebles co-starred as was annoying as hell. There are a couple others as well but he was probably the most irritating to me. .......thought so back when it released too.
-
Yeah..... Although Netnow's CS experience gives me hope. I haven't yet tried to block a player I have blocked already but like you said, maybe it's simply a matter of chance.
-
Take Two immediately counter-sued for the right to include the two characters in the game. Being a Swede has nothing to do with it IMO. Pinkerton doesn't represent you or your fellow citizens, right? ....it's just a company regardless of who they're owned by.

We all know what game we're playing. It's also represented in all of R*'s marketing for the mode....... "blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways", "Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.", etc., etc. It's clear to me that R* wants to make Free Roam an experience for all to enjoy. Yes, it's a PvPvE model but it needs balance. Personally, I think there should be consequences for griefers. As it is now, there are none and they roam around the game world with impunity. There's no bounty, penalty, etc. Regardless of whether I enjoy skirmishes at times, it can be very frustrating and fun-ruining being trolled especially when you really just want to do your own thing solo or with friends. ......and especially when you are at a steep disadvantage whether that's being outnumbered or being bullied by a fully kitted player(s) dozens of levels above you. There is absolutely no fun in that IMO / IME. Even when I do have the advantage, killing someone over and over again because they won't go away is boring is not my idea of a great time. Regardless, R* has acknowledged that griefing is one of the most received complaints from fans and they have committed to trying to balance the gameplay as a result. Whether that puts some people off, it is all that matters to me. Private sessions are great and I would still love to see them materialize, but if GTAO is any indication, Free Roam may be the only option if you want to participate in most businesses and related missions. In that case, I would prefer R* address the Free Roam concern sooner rather than later. .....and I for one am glad they are listening. Let's face it.... These anti-griefing measures are not going to stop people from trolling. Some may even see the new bounty system, etc. as a challenge. I just hope the gameplay feels more balanced is all.

If you're suggesting RDO is a P2W model, it isn't. Anything locked behind Gold Bars is essentially cosmetic. What really matters in RDO when talking a competitive edge is leveling up because that's when weapons, special ammo, ability cards, etc. become available. .....and in-game currency is easy enough (since they change the economy) to obtain those items once you do. If anything, R* uses a pay to shortcut model. .....and I agree in that case but I also don't have a problem with people being able to buy Shark Cards to get in-game money to buy better weapons, cars, etc. since that money is also available to anyone willing to work for it. With Gold Bars, those items you can buy with them that may give you an advantage can also be bought with in-game currency. R* wants to attract all players to their online games.....period. As they put it, "We're focused on players, not payers." Their strategy is providing content for free to attract more players. This is the key to GTAOs success and I have no doubt will be for RDO as well. It's also part of the whole idea behind R*s version of their GaaS model. They feel that if you can keep players coming with free content, "the monetisation will take care of itself." In other words, the more the merrier because maintaining a healthy population is what it's all about. R* knows not all players will purchase MTXs but they depend on those people to help maintain their player base. R* doesn't consider non-MTX players a "nightmare". One thing you have to understand is that GTAO and RDO public sessions are PvPvE. As a PvE / co-op fan, I wish things were different in GTAO to cater more toward that crowd but it isn't. .....and I kinda get that given the over the top, self indulgent, chaotic game world that is GTA. ....but they also do allow PvEers to still play heists, missions, etc. with their friends or even solo through private servers, etc. without ever having to deal with subjecting yourself to griefers. I suspect invite-only sessions will too come to RDO in time. I think they haven't so far simply because it's easier to deal with changes and to test scenarios with everyone in the same bucket. Regardless, I think it's obvious that R* wants to take a different approach with Free Roam in RDO vs GTAO. They have acknowledged the complaints about griefing and have committed to enacting "anti-griefing" measures in the near future. I honestly think that R* wants to take a more balanced approach with RDO which (if so) will be great news for us PvEers. Personally, I would rather take a wait and see approach as the game is nowhere near its final release state.

Hi Red, Sorry, I moved your post to the recruitment forum. Management likes to keep things tidy and it wouldn't be fair to others members whose threads we're also moved if I left yours there. I hope you understand. Thanks, Kean

By "you guys", I think you mean Rockstar, right? RDR2.org is a fan site, not a R* forum. While sharing your ideas here is great, if you have suggestion that you want heard by R* then I would also suggest submitting it through their feedback link: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=addb2b0b

want to give gold to a friend on xbox so i need a downloadable code
Kean_1 replied to Steven Kreg's topic in Red Dead Online
Ah, I see. Hopefully someone who has an XB1 can help you out then. I can't imagine you could do it with one but not the other if it's tied into R*s storefront but what do I know. -
Interesting..... Seems like a much more direct answer than I got and clearly makes mention that you will not be paired up with blocked players in sessions. I didn't save the answer I got but the rep sounded like a lawyer. ......providing answers that didn't directly address the question. It felt to me that he simply didn't know for sure. Given your experience, I think I'm going to keep blocking players as I have.

Not that I'm aware of. The gold is purchased through R* and applied to your account. If there isn't an option to gift gold through the in-game store, then I know of no other way you can. -
The Beta has Outworn its Welcome (Rant-a-tat-tat)
Kean_1 replied to HuDawg's topic in Red Dead Online
Well, I wouldn't consider them short sighted or imply they are not the "smart ones". I just look at it as yet another opinion of what players want to see in this game even if it's not what I like. As for what most want, unfortunately none of us are privy to the feedback information or gameplay data that R* is. I know R* must be taking these things into account when making their decisions on what they prioritize, what they are looking to include / exclude in the future, etc. .....and while they don't officially participate, I strongly suspect they also have resources monitoring Reddit and other social media to collect information. I do believe R* is taking the feedback they've been receiving through their site quite seriously which is why I have been encouraging folks (regardless of their point of view) to submit their suggestions, frustrations, etc. directly to them. The fact is, we can argue about what R* is doing right or wrong but none of that is going to change anything unless we act. -
Weird..... I would definitely report that and if possible, take a screenshot to show an example. https://support.rockstargames.com/categories/115001624507?step=a2541d3e

Well, then maybe that explains why I've been giving the Division 2 some hard thought lately. Is it true that they are looking to scale back the "bullet sponge" mechanics in the game? I know they can't dial it back too far (given the game is an RPG) but I had heard rumors that it was discussed. To be honest, I just haven't been following its progress like I did with the original during development.
