Your post has given me a lot to think about.

Typically, while I wait for the game to come out of beta or for better anti griefing methods to be implemented, I only log in occasionally using the quick mission feature to play my favorites and call it a day. But I think I may log in and keep your blocking methods, especially the proactive blocks, to see if my online play is more fun.

I will also contact Sony to see if I can get more information on how they are handling this game.

Thanks again for giving my other options to investigate.

No problem. Please share anything you find out from Sony as I'm quite curious as well. Thanks.

Fyi....  I contacted Sony and couldn't get a straight answer to my question that if I block someone through PSN if it will keep me from being matched to that player in the game (specifically RDO).  They kept running around the question with their answers instead of just giving me a straight yes or no.  THey referred me to R* which is no surprise.

It appears that the PSN block doesn't control that but game developers may take it into account.  ....or (more likely), game devs don't take that into account at all and base blocks on their own in-game features, reporting techniques, etc. I guess at this point it appears it really doesn't help blocking people.  .....unless the guy had no idea what he was talking about which it seems like that may have been the case since he kept dancing around the question.

Three of us tried different ways of contacting Sony regarding the blocking issue, posting, chatting and emailing. The direct quote that one of us got while doing an online chat was interesting.

"We totally understand your situation and we are sorry to know that you are getting issues with those players, and you won't be on the same lobby if you block the player and you will avoid them and enjoy the game in a better way, sounds good?"

The rest of the chat log rambled a little so I'm still not 100% sure. But I'll take it for what it's worth.

Reporting is a step up from blocking but this Sony rep seemed to think that just blocking might keep us from the same lobby as griefers/bullies.

I only wish there was some log of every griefer that has popped me so far (is there one online?) but I guess I'll just start today and ask my friends for names of those they've come across. This isn't much because there are a ton of people playing online but I'll feel a little better knowing that these clowns will only get a one shot attack on me (if it really works).

Interesting.....  Seems like a much more direct answer than I got and clearly makes mention that you will not be paired up with blocked players in sessions.  I didn't save the answer I got but the rep sounded like a lawyer.   ......providing answers that didn't directly address the question.  It felt to me that he simply didn't know for sure.

Given your experience, I think I'm going to keep blocking players as I have.

With The Division and on Xbox.  Blocking players didn't always work.  Unfortunately, my experiences, you generally see the same players if you play enough.

Yeah.....  Although Netnow's CS experience gives me hope.

I haven't yet tried to block a player I have blocked already but like you said, maybe it's simply a matter of chance.

Bit of a nooooob question but how would I block someone on PS4?

When you select a member from the player list, there is an option to invite, report, etc. and one where you can view their profile. This will open their PSN profile.  If you select the box with "...", there you will have the option to block.

For posses that are a problem, I go to "posse" within the menu and select the appropriate one.  From there you select each of the members and then the rest is the same process.

Hope that makes sense.

I don't think we on Xbox can block anyone. However I have reported a bunch of griefers. And I think I am seeing the result: I had just entered a server and spawned the other night and notice some gamertags in the list were red. I hadn't had interaction with anyone yet and surmised they may have been griefers I reported. I hope so. I was able to choose to ignore or annihilate them

You can.  Record their name, then go to the icon for friends list and scroll down to recent players.  Find your player, go to his profile, and scroll down to where you can report or block player.  I tried it in The Division and still saw players that I knew was using CronusMax to cheat.  Still would see them in the game.

Passive mode is gross.

Lame. Defend yourself like a man, avoid strangers if you're alone like anyone with common sense. Its an incentive to actually group up.

Damn right.  All these people complaining should just go buy Cabellas hunting.  Online is boring as is, wait and see how boring it is if these crybabies get their way.

More information on how to block someone follows also...

Well, not wanting to leave anything to chance, I called US Sony  myself 1-800-345-7669. I hadn't done it before because I figured I'd have a long wait time. Surprisingly, I did not.

The person I spoke with said that once I block a person, we would no longer be able to see or communicate with one another. I then specifically mentioned Red Dead 2 Online lobbies and told her of the problems that some of us are having with griefers. I then specifically asked if I block someone, would that prevent us from being in the same game lobby.

She said yes without missing a beat.

That's the best thing I've heard about this situation so far, even counting information from Rockstar.

About blocking--well, I have done it this way. Because I don't want to stop my gameplay once I get going,  I take down the name of whomever has griefed me (you know, it appears in that picture after someone murders you). At the end of last night's session, where I only played quick roam missions, I had four names of players that had popped me when I was standing there, spawning in and out as I went from mission to mission.

I had also gathered names of griefers from a few friends that I trust, so I was looking at a list of about 30 people.

I had to be at a computer for a time this morning, so logged into my Playstation account on one of the browser windows.

Across the top menu on-screen is the word Friends. Select that and it takes you to a search bar. I typed the person's name in. His info popped up. I selected it. There are a few options there but there is also a little box under their name with three periods/dots in it. I selected the box. The option to Block the person is there.

Of course, with all of the people playing the game, this is only a small step. But, for me, it's more than what Rockstar is doing at this point and I feel a little better knowing it shouldn't be the same griefer killing me in multiple sessions.

I'm still hoping for separate PvE and PvEvP servers.

I personally don't see any challenge in doing anything in this game without the threat of pvp. The missions are so easy to do, I can do them half asleep. What fun is that? If you want passive mode, go play single player. It's not like you lose anything when you die unless you have pelts. And even then, if someone is persistently bothering me then I just hop to a new session and generally avoid people. Eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later. People killing others for no reason gonna get bounties on them like in the SP. So people will think twice before they blast some random in the head while hunting.

The auto aim should be toggleable. As I have bad sight so it helps me play otherwise I'd probably never hit anyone lol. Which is why I'm kind of an up close fighter sometimes. (Anyone moving faster than a trot/jog becomes blurry to me, just my messed up eyes).

For any people blocking griefers, I apologize for not posting this sooner. I discovered this early last week.

PSN only allows you to block 50 people. Well, me any way.

I contacted Sony  thru chat and by phone to verify this. If you've added over 50, you can verify this by trying to add a person and then checking your list of Blocked Players under Friends. I thought I've been adding people for awhile now--but they really weren't being added.

I've suggested to Sony that with about 95M PS4 owners, they've got to figure there are more than 50 griefers online out here. I was told in both cases that this would be brought up as a PSN player suggestion at the next meeting.

Still hoping for separate PvE and PvP servers for Red Dead Redemption Online.

What players want is a co-op/friendly lobby..

You can't play single player with co-op.

You should be able to just do it from the game. You can view everyone in the server with you, just look for their name and view their profile. From there you can report/block them (one of the last options).

I think their point is that they can go back and play the campaign as if that was the same as online play.   It's your basic "Git Gud!" response you see from Toxic PvP players.  They seem to think pushing players away is always the best tac.  It isn't.

I have tried and it never lets me.  I have always had to go into the Xbox menu, look them up, and block them there.

fyi....  I just got finished checking my blocked list and I have over 200 players.  I also checked in several spots on list as I scrolled through the names and for each that I did, they were still blocked.  .....although the last 56 looked like place holders as there is no longer player information in those boxes.

My list is in alphabetical order and stops after "Si".  Seems half of the S's and thru Z are still there but simply blank.  .....not sure what that's about. Maybe I'll try to block someone in that alphabet range to see what happens.  190 blocked players are still visible though.

Anyhow, are you saying that you can only see 50 on your list and that Sony confirmed that's the limit?

There may be a difference between blocking players on PSN and PS Plus.  I wouldn't put it past $ony to lock blocking players behind a paywall.

Just tried to re-block two more people thru PSN. I'm logged into my PSN account on my computer. The same 50 people are there (listed alphabetically from A to Y), it would not add the other two.

I spoke with Sony people both in online chat and by phone and they both acknowledged that only 50 could be blocked and that they would have to put in a suggestion for more.

I'm curious, were the people you added reported or just blocked?

I'll try to do it from my console later but definitely I can't do it from my computer.

Edit: And I am subscribed to a PS Plus account. I'll do some more investigating on that too.

Same here (PS Plus)

I am checking from my console in the PS4 menu.  These are people listed in my blocked list.  ....the list you get to by pressing [options] and then "blocked players".  When I select a player from the list, the next screen shows an option to "unblock" that person.

btw, I see a couple players I just blocked the other day so I know it's still adding new ones.

This is crazy...

I logged onto my Pro. I am able to add people there.

I went back to my computer to see if the people were added and the number is now up to 56.

But I tried to block another person using PSN computer access and it would not go. I went to my Pro and was able to block the person. And it then showed up (57) on my PSN computer browser access.

It's as if the PSN computer browser access won't let me add anything over 50 but the console will. Very odd. Also odd that the Sony people weren't more familiar with this. Guess I'll be doing an online chat to get info on this too.

I plugged a USB keyboard into my Pro and it's making it easy to re-input those names that didn't go in before.

Thanks for the info on your over 50 list.

Ah....   Maybe that's what they were talking about then (limited to 50 in that case).  .....although that doesn't really make sense.

Anyhow, glad to see you can still block more than 50 on your console.

My  last comment on this--I just got finished online chatting with another Sony person. This one assured me that the block limit is 100 but doesn't know why PSN computer browser access only let me add up to 50 while the console didn't limit me (yet any way). He provided me with a link to complain to Rockstar (as if my almost daily feedback to Rockstar isn't enough). But I'll use that, too, since it's different from the regular Rockstar feedback link.

I guess at a point the game has to decide to put you in a lobby with a blocked player or have you sit in limbo until theres a clean lobby. Lesser of two evils...lol

Well, as I mentioned, I've got 200+ blocked players on my PS4 list and counting. ....so I'm unclear where those Sony reps got the 50 or even 100 limits from.
