Targeted for Assassination

I was just at the butcher in Strawberry unloading my latest load of fish when it said I had been marked for assassination by so and so. I opened the map and there were 4 players, none close, that now had red skulls as their icon. I was about to quit anyway so I just got out and came here to ask about it.

I've never heard of this, have you??

It is stranger mission. I think from Sean, which randomly pick any player. The worst part is, game never mention about the target is a player, not npc. 

Me & my friend attack this target, only after his death, I realized that is a player. Feel so bad. 😔

Same here. I had no idea it was another player until I got there to kill him. 

However, I soon found out when I tracked him down and he and members of the posse he was in ended my life pretty quickly. 

If it was an NPC, I would have retried. But I was so shocked that the game mechanic had me become one of the griefing asses I hate online, I just server jumped.

Yeah Sean, James Langton, Shady, Flaco Hernandez and the old hag in the Grizzlies have given me assassination missions. So it seems pretty random. When doing the stranger missions.  

It also sounds like you got tagged by a posse. You only have to survive 5 minutes which is easy you just jump on your horse and ride like hell for that 5 minutes. It is worth a trophy as well if you survive which is easy. The one assassination mission I had success. The dude rode straight at me lol. I couldn't believe it, if he had ridden away I would have had no chance.

As for me,  the funny part is how coincidence his name look so normal as in game.

Not just encourage player kill player. But also encourage us to kill own friend.

Until today, we still autoaim to our friend. Rockstar seems enjoy to create this kind of world.

Yeah I feel you. Like you should be able to opt in and out of this or have features like this on a more "hardcore" optional server or something,

Just run away, and then if they get close, leave. You get money and XP for surviving.

I wonder if you are targeted, could you enter a shop and ghost mode the 5min?

Exactlly. I think its actually cool to have a mission like this. It notifies the player being hunted at least and gives fair chance to prepare/hide. I enjoy things that force people to try things they wouldn't normally want to attempt.

this type of stranger mission is my favorite lol. 9/10 its a challenge and i love it lol

Twice that's happened to me and this second time was by 6 people and after I survived they just kept trying to hunt me down. I guess they got salty that i survived 6 people and plus i was cornered in tumbleweed.

Had this happen to me as well. While I thought it was pretty cool , what I didn't like was that I was targeted even though I was in my camp with the white flag raised.

I thought they had changed these missions to that only players with low honor or high hostility could be targeted for these missions? Yesterday I was targeted even though I had high honor/low hostility. I easily survived since I hunkered down in my camp at Gaptooth Ridge, surrounded by rocky terrain so I couldn't be flanked and I was able to pick him off over and over with my explosive rifle rounds as soon as he got within range and it was only the one player and not a posse. It just surprised the hell out of me when I was cooking away at my campfire and was suddenly pulled out of it and notified that I was targeted for assassination. After it was over, the douche continued to try to kill me but couldn't because my camp protection reactivated. LOL! I just stood there and used my wave emote in his face, then left via fast travel when I got bored.

Nope. What they said was that those with high hostility would have a higher probability of being chosen as the target.

Quite honestly though, I was beginning to think they got rid of those missions as I hadn't seen one pop up in a long time. ....and I've been doing quite a few side missions.

OK thanks. Like I said, it didn't bother me and it was actually kind of fun making a stand. It just surprised me because it happens so rarely.

I got one the other day, first time in ages.  Both Sean and James Langton hand them out, maybe some others, too.

I have been high honour for a long time, but went bad for the new story missions, and weirdly have continued a downward slide towards the dark side.  Used to be that feeding my horse and skinning a few animals kept me well up the white hat spectrum, but not at the moment. 👿

I went full low honor a few weeks ago to get some of the posse members I used to run with the low honor missions. I was not targeted at low honor. Now at full high honor again I got targeted 2 times. Weird.

I think it might also work if you are in a posse or not. I think individuals are less likely to be targeted. But, as long as all parties involved leave it to the mission and don’t use it as an excuse to start a two hour running gunfight across three states, I find it a fun little diversion.

Usually it will tell the player who gets the job as well as the target that it is happening, I have done several of these.

Sometimes depending on where you get the mission,you have no chance of ever getting to the target in time so I just skip those and ignore the mission, other times they are close and so you go for it, nobody takes it personally well they shouldnt it is part of the game.

When you get an assassination job but it is npc's you can tell because it says eliminate the targets, then you look on your map and see they are npcs at a camp or whatever, but when it is a real player it will show their name, you can see it is a player name, and you can even look it up on the player list to see who it is and all that.

So dont get upset when you are selected, also, to avoid being selected, just play in defensive mode, I believe you will not be used for these in that case.

I remember the first time it happened to me, I thought, wait what? who is coming for me? and I left, lol I didnt know what was up abnd it kind of freaked me out, then I learned what it was about and since then when they come up I do them, I defended against one recently and survived, and I got one to go kill and I got 2 of the three but couldnt get the third, he killed me three times, then the timer ran out, so it was over, but it was to kill a whole posse, lol of 3 guys near Braithwaite manor.

Yeah, rather than start a new thread about player assassination missions, I did a search for this one. I knew it existed. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Definitely a logical step. Doesn't matter how old the discussion is, if you have something new to ask or add, I'd rather see a necrobump than yet another thread on the same issue. It shows the history of said issue. +1 reputation for you

Easy folks.....   I only mentioned the age of the thread as an FYI to @lumper as he was directly replying to the OPs 6 month old post.  I didn't know if he realized the age as sometimes that can happen (folks don't notice the dates when a thread is bumped).  I
